I think in the early days of my flying experiences I mainly flew on American Airlines. I think they were based out of St. Louis Missouri-Lambert Field, then. A gal who grew up where I lived actually chose being a stewardess for a career. There were a couple of gals from my old high school (obviously a few yrs. before my grad time) and one even came to give a talk in our auditorium. It seemed like one of the more "fabulous" jobs back then. While partly true — it was also work and likely the somewhat random nature of flying somewhere every day would not have suited me. I flew a lot while in the service on almost every airline there was back then because military could fly on stand-by if your booked flight cancelled and be accepted on any airlines flight as long as it was going near where you were.
Divine, the Loon and his followers are sick in every way. I do actually understand the fear of 'losing' the Trump voters. Still, in the end, it doesn't say much if the Loon's face, habits, and words are what you end up presenting as the picture of you. The blindness is mind numbing. The in-ability to recognize the brush you are tarring yourself with and the hill you choose as your last stand. It's not only an amazing thing, but totally frightening. I didn't see or ever think there were that many people who would just turn themselves over to someone like the Loon and follow blindly from then on. Just when did the words think and choose fall out of favor and become meaningless to them.
I so hope that we are rid of a great good deal of the actual troublemakers soon. In fact, I hope the next few elections get us back on some recognizable track made a lot more policy trustworthy and way sturdier (less ambiguity) then since Reagan and the nutty Reps.
Such a long time and I've not been able to find any respect for a party that was in fact respectable. No more. I think the Loon has been the straw that may aid the total un-doing.
Off to breakfast. I'll be back later for memes.

Watched Face the Nation and Mike Pence was one of the guests. As usual he was his spineless self espousing the conservative philosophy of the Republican party which has not been in existence since Reagan was in office. I hated Reagan because I thought he talked out of both sides of his mouth and was all for the rich. Pence said he cannot support Trump (because he doesn't support the Constitution) but talked about how wonderful this country was under the Trump and Pence years. What reality was he living in because I consider it delusional that those years were as wonderful as he exclaimed. They were 4 of the worst years I have experienced in my life and made the Reagan, Bush years pale in comparison. He would not answer Margaret when she asked if he was going to vote Republican. I think he will not fare well in history books and he continues to talk as if his career in politics is sustainable. I believe that door shut for good the day he left the White House.
I have yet to find any redeeming grace in any of their years of presidency. Thought "W" was an idiot, his father a liar and Reagan responsible for far too many deaths in the military. I believe they have lost their way and if they continue to let Trump lead them to abandon their past philosophy, it will lead to the death of the 2 party system in the US. Anarchy and autocracy are not compatible with the democracy that we are trying to preserve and deviating from the principles espoused in the Constitution is disturbing. We need to find a way to derail their objectives and Biden needs to keep pushing his achievements and the failures of Trump.

Flying as a flight attendant or a pilot rarely involved anything random. You bid on a monthly schedule so knew where/when you’d be working for the entire month. Yes, weather of mechanical delays could change things but that was the exception rather than the norm. There were months when you were scheduled for standby duty but you were assigned on call and release time (pre-cell phone and internet). Given that staffing levels are strictly controlled by the FAA, random crew assignments are simply not workable.
I too “actually chose” to become a flight attendant! Not sure if you’re implying that this is not a good choice but it was a fabulous experience that greatly expanded my world view. I know that more than a few looked down on my choice as I had a BA and was a teacher but I happily did not let them influence me. Every single person in my class photo was bilingual and almost all had bachelors degrees. I am very proud to have been a flight attendant!

Exactly, betrayal. What reality was Pence living in from 2016-2020?! The WaPo has a good article on him today, it states: It’s not that he (Pence) views Trump as dangerous to democracy, or even so much that he’s upset over Trump’s attacking him for his refusal to try to overturn the 2020 election on Jan. 6, 2021. (Some rioters chanted “Hang Mike Pence,” and Trump attacked Pence on Twitter even after being informed of the Capitol unrest.)
Instead, Pence pitched the current version of Trump as insufficiently conservative on issues such as abortion, the national debt, and China and TikTok.
“Donald Trump is pursuing and articulating an agenda that is at odds with the conservative agenda that we governed on during our four years,” Pence said, “and that is why I cannot in good conscience endorse Donald Trump in this campaign.”
Pence often says, “I’m a Christian, a conservative and a Republican — in that order.” In this case, he’s suggesting the second one indeed carries more weight than the third. And that’s a challenge to other Republicans who are emphasizing the third one.
The WaPo write that Pence has taken a “very significant step in bucking Trump.” Well, if the asshat has any significance, may it be that his bucking Trump means others will do the same.1 -

Divine, what WaPo wrote is what he espoused on Face the Nation. It must be his chosen script for any interview. The fact that Trump threw him under the bus or provided the rope for his hanging doesn't seem to concern him. Cannot believe that he doesn't believe in self-preservation. What an idiot!

A chosen script makes sense, betrayal. Pence has always been robotic anyway. And maybe he doesn’t want to come right out and say, “That f- - -head almost let me get killed! Does he think I would endorse him after that?” The optics would be bad. Maybe he thinks it would make him look stupid, cowardly, unpatriotic, who knows. He probably paid a media consultant a hefty fee to come up with the script that he's sticking with.

Exbronxgrl, no, no, no. I, in no way meant to imply that being a flight attendant was not a great choice. Coming from a town of less than 200 inhabitants, it seemed almost exotic at the time to me. I graduated high school in 1963. Just for me (timid and shy) it was and would have been something that would not have likely been a comfortable fit for me. I instead joined the army which in fact, had some rough times (did get better) for someone timid and shy. I did come out of my shell pretty well but I think it had more to do with being assigned a permanent assignment in one place most of the time.
Enjoyed all the viewpoints about Pence. I knew nothing of Pence till he was chosen to be the Loon's running mate. I learned then that he had been Governor of Indiana for four yrs. and was running for re-election when chosen as possible V.P. He was not liked and most of the people of Indiana did not care for Pence and that is what every poll was showing. So, not only a real step up was possible, but he certainly could save face and career in large part no matter how things went. I never felt respect for him after that. I felt like if you were unable to make the citizens of Indiana reasonably content, then it didn't seem likely to me that he'd do much for the U.S. as a whole.
I took a bit of heavy dislike as well when he referred to his wife as "Mother". He said he wouldn't be in a room alone with any woman. Really !! Spells weirdo to me in a big way. As with many things, Pence was 'picked' out for the Loon. Others had to make a lot of choices for the Loon who wasn't capable and politically savvy then and it's worse now.
The fact that he is Christian first makes me almost choke. Your just a weirdo that needs to sell books now because whatever political career you hoped you'd have been was long over before you sold your soul to the Loon for political safe keeping.
from Divine's post:
“Donald Trump is pursuing and articulating an agenda that is at odds with the conservative agenda that we governed on during our four years,” Pence said, “and that is why I cannot in good conscience endorse Donald Trump in this campaign.”
What planet was Pence on because on Planet Earth there was no conservative president from 2016-2020, and conservative Pence was just another toady. Alternate reality anyone.

Thanks Jackie, for telling me about this forum!
Is this the "dark web of BCO?" LOL I didn't know this existed and it doesn't seem to show up on active topics, at least I didn't see it there.
Shout out to @exbrnexgrl !
This is definitely going to be the most important election in the history of our country. I would bet there will be violence and to the degree that it will be far worse than Jan 6th, regardless of the outcome.
I have actually had the most amazing conversations with MAGA members in my community during the last six-nine months. One small businessman and I talked for two hours because we are both history geeks. Amazingly while we didn't agree on Trump, we agreed on many issues and even on some of the ways to solve them. I also met two men in a doctor's office and actually wish I could have talked with them longer, but the nurse called me back.
I am also doing some work for Democrats who are running for Congressional races. Democrats must take control of the House!
I must say that right now my biggest fear is that Biden and Harris will be assassinated leaving Mike Johnson in the White House!

Pence's campaign slogan should have been "Pence the Puppet" because he was a toady during his years as VP and was easily manipulated by his unfit for service president.

Do you know how Michelle Duggar looks up adoringly at Jim Bob whenever he speaks? That’s exactly how pence used to look at trump. It always made me queasy 😂.
Mavericksmom,
Just for some historical perspective on hidden threads, there was once a thread for conservative views! I don’t quite remember the thread title but the word mirror was in there somewhere. The mods admonished us not to cross post to avoid arguments which did break out occasionally. I’m not sure what happened to it but it appears to have vanished.

The mirror people all went to Facebook mostly. I think while some of them in the beginning were pretty much strictly into cancer issues like most of us, at some point they became argumentative and very much so about political things. Finally, and to make both sides have a "home" the mods did let us have our respective threads, but back then it was definitely by invitation only.
The threads were not visible then in any way. I don't think they are now either although those on the right as mentioned quit using their thread. I think they were possibly causing trouble in other parts of BC. Org and chose to just quit coming. Perhaps some were banished although I can't say for sure.
I have always been relieved that we were allowed the thread as to many of us we feel we often need an outlet for our political health — even more so since Trump and all that he brought down upon us. I get along well enough with most Reps. because people around our town here do not talk politics — at least not outside of "party meets". You get to figure out who is who though but I've not lost friends. I do have many issues with my family who aro obnoxious and pushy about THEIR wonderful Reps. party. They are loud and do not give you a change to air your views even if you wanted. It's for sure they are not going to agree with our outlook so Dh and I have the same rule for any family gathering — no politics. So far, so good. Since I'm the only female and the cook they don't want to agitate me. I told then if they talk I take my food and go home. They gave me a test one day. I passed. They begged me to unwrap my food and stay. Last time they talked politics — so welcome, welcome MM. Glad you are here.

Just when I think I heard it all………
This morning they showed Trump starting his rally calling for support of the "hostages" (insurrectionists) while playing the National Anthem! How is this NOT more evidence of him giving "comfort to the enemies there of."….. part of section 3 of Amendment XIV?
Colorado and Maine had it right taking Trump off the ballot! The SCOTUS should have booted Trump off the ballot! They are too afraid to do their job and I find it sickening! I don't trust them with a ten foot pole! Their job is to interpret the Constitution, not consider the reaction of society to their decision! Taking an "off ramp" to keep him on the ballot made a mockery of our law!
The whole GOP are RINOs! Real Republicans are leaving, not running for re-election!
Scary too how Michelle Morrow in NC is allowed to threaten the President and former President in the most disgusting way, and not be arrested for it? She crossed over the "free speech" threshold! We all know we do have freedom of speech but one can't yell "fire" in a theater or "bomb" on a plane, when there is none!

Oh, as for Pence, remember, Trump couldn't get anyone to run with him. Pence wasn't who he wanted, but he was all he had. Pence is even worse than Trump in many ways. He is narrow minded and hates all who are different.
My DIL had a transgender "niece to nephew" who tragically died from a severe asthma attack in Dec. He was a really wonderful young 23 yr old man. One of my nephew's son's leans transgender. Is this normal? No. Do I understand them? No. But, there is NO reason NOT to BE KIND to them! Pence regularly attacks those who identify with the LBGTQIA community. Judge people on their actions, not their sexuality! Trump/Pence have proven they are enemies to Democracy because of their actions!

Oh yes, the Michelle Duggar adoring wife gaze. So gross. I’m surprised Trump didn’t call Pence “Mother” when he did it! To me, it would be so weird to have someone staring at me like that when I spoke.
Yes, the separation of the liberal and conservative view threads was one of the best ideas the moderators came up with. I remember the conservative thread fizzled out shortly after Trump got into office. He was doing one shitty thing after another and I think they had a hard time justifying their support of him. They truly thought he was going to immediately and miraculously turn America into a shining star and it didn’t happen. I think there were some who did break up with Trump but wouldn’t publicly admit it. The others wanted to spew intense hatred towards liberals and wanted less interference from moderators, so they went to Facebook. I doubt that even took off for very long.
Welcome mavericksmom. I so totally agree about being kind towards people regardless of their sexual orientation. I have never, ever understood the violence towards those in the LBGTQIA community. The disconnect between the Christians who claim to be good and holy but judge others harshly and spew hate is beyond frustrating.0 -

MM, welcome to the forum where you can vent your political feelings and not be judged or shouted down. I see your point about RINO's but they are targets of Trump because they do not lean his way, for example Mitt Romney who was labeled a RINO for voting for Trump's impeachment and Liz Cheney for her anti-Trump stance. I think Trump would label those leaving and not running for re-election as RINO's as well. Those supporting him in my estimation are MAGA's but not espousing the former republican ideals but a perverted version of them.
Having loved family members who are part of the LGBTQIA community, I cannot understand why they have become the target of those who choose to direct hatred towards them. They do not pass judgments on others and try to lead normal lives loving and being loved like all others.
Sexual orientation never bothered me and I can say that I was honored to know some wonderful people who crossed my path. There was one who worked at the hospital where I trained and he was a wonderful seamstress. When some people came to the hospital, their clothes had to be incinerated due to bug infestations or just gross dirt. He would get their clothing sizes and make them an outfit that they could wear home from the hospital. The outfits were beyond basic and he did not charge the patient. He participated in the Gay Ball annually and designed these unbelievably beautiful gowns not only for himself but for others. We looked forward to seeing his photos. Sort of a RuPaul type nearly 60 years ago. His name was Barry and he was a wonderful person. Also Thom, the LPN, who was a drinking buddy on occasion with a wicked sense of humor but a heart as big as Texas. I hope their lives were wonderful.
It will be interesting to see who Trump proposes as his VP choice. I hope they are as repugnant as he is and of the same caliber as Sarah Palin. He has a whole list of kiss ass people who would grovel at his feet to be his "pick" including the former speaker of the house, Kevin McCarthy.

Did I say Michele Duggar ( along with a lot of her family) make me gag. Likely did. I guess I might be going to hell for some of my thoughts, but its okay. I don't actually believe in hell. What loving God would do something so cruel. He/she doesn't really have to since 'hell' is stewing in our own discomforts we refuse to fix.
I have no issue what-so-ever with those who are different sexually (LBGDQ,etc.) as I've never viewed them as a threat in anyway to any part of me. We all are here and different in a huge variety of ways and I've always seen the sexual ones as just another one like the color of eyes, hair, fat, thin, or whatever it is. My only sadness is that it took so long and so much agony, and pain and even death to understand that we have a right to ALL freedoms. Likely doesn't hurt that several in Dh's family are "different" but such industrious people that most of the time I found being together pleasant and stimulating and never thought of sexual orientations. Fact is, most of those who are different actually turn out to be Democrats — so what's not to love.
Divine, I hadn't thought of what you said about the people from the Mirror thread. I do think ( since many were in so many other ways logical really nice people) that they probably did feel a great deal of angst for who they help to elect. I was in fact, on another thread for a good spate of time with a couple of those ladies and it was during a time when our dx's were fairly new and no one seemed very focused on political ideals.
I've no idea when it was that I discovered our "differences", but a couple of these people were pretty harsh with their assessment of me once I owned up to being Democrat. More reflected for what I was agreeing or dis-agreeing about before threads were separated. It was pretty stinging. Shook me up a bit but didn't change my outlook one bit.
I have heard lately that many in the Reps. party are distressed. I think many who are reasonable to a degree likely are and seem to be having a reaction just like those from the Mirror. I think many want to remain loyal to the fact they have always been "Republican", but are put in un-happy straits (not sure I used that word correctly) because even if they don't vocally own up they are able to 'get' the distress and likely result.
I am by the way sending someone else our Link today. I hope MM stays with us and I'm hope the new person might like it here as well.
