@margecandoit I'm sorry you didn't get a definitive answer, it's all so frustrating and disappointing. The mental anguish is difficult we know as others said focus on the positive. You are being watched closely and if something turns out to be positive your Mo will be right on it.

Unfortunately our minds never rest with this disease! Some days are easier than others but it's always in the back of our minds. i just try my best to literally live one day at a time.

Good luck to you ladies on your upcoming CT. I am grateful I had my CT last week and the SBRT I had in the summer did a good job on my lung metastasis! So I will stay on my same treatment and keep moving on.

Thanks all for being there for me!! Good luck on everyone CT scans coming up!! Let me know how they go. Interested in knowing how that goes and what other Dr say. I am trying to stay positive I just hard to think that it was negative when they may have not got the right spot. Ugh

I’m late in posting about results. Repeat CT was on 11/27, with a follow-up with the thoracic surgeon on 12/1.

Well as previously was the case, with 1.5 hours I had the results of the scan in my patient portal. Everything listed as stable. Such relief!

I tried to get a phone consult vs having to go in the office. We had been postponing our drive to second home in Florida until I had results. Long story short I had to go in on 12/1. The surgeon was pleased and said he’ll put in for a repeat CT in May.

As I checked out at the front desk the counter person let me know starting 1/1/24 my insurance will now require pre approval for CT scans. So they will wait until after 1/1 to put in a request, get the approval and let me know I was good to book the appointment.

Thank you all for your support!

Hi @cindyny , Good news that everything is stable! I had my CT on Dec 1 and just got the results yesterday. I have a couple of new small nodules, a slight increase in one larger one and the rest stable. The report came with a note from my pulmonologist saying that he thinks the slight changes are caused by inflammation (maybe from my bout of COVID in Aug.) I’m scheduled for my next CT in May.

I hope your trip to FL wasn’t delayed too much. Enjoy the warm weather!

They are going to set me up for my ct scan again. It’s been almost 5 months and going to see what the lung biopsy got and if the new left lung nodules have changed. My oncologist also wants me to do a liver ultrasound cause some of my blood work is off ugh. Thanks for reading my post.

Hi @margecandoit , I hope your scans give good results. I have my surveillance chest CT the first week in May and a repeat MRI of my left hip where there was an incidental bone marrow finding. If it still lights up it will be biopsied. It’s all a bit worrying but better to check and be sure.

Maggie we shall see. I am still waiting for them to call me for the CT. I have a Breast MRI in June cause of my pet scan lighting up on my left breast and lungs. So suppose to look at the lungs with CT this month and breast in June. So weird that lung nodules can come and go. I wonder why some times what causes that. Hope you’re having a good day.

I had a call a few weeks back to set up the repeat CT of my lungs but it was at the hospital. I said no, surgeon said to stay with the same place I’ve been going. She said ok they’d call me. I haven’t had a call back.

I’ll be on Medicare 6/1 so I’m hoping we get it done before then. I should put on my calendar to call them and get it scheduled.

Marge, I’m hoping you get scheduled as you want. I think the nodules can sometimes be from inflammation.

Maggie, better to know than not to. But best wishes to you with both.

    Thanks cindyny,

Finally got the call to set up the Ct for may 6. I still have to get my liver ultrasound set up. Will try that tomorrow. Hope you get your set before may. Switching insurance is a hard thing. Thanks for listening to me .

Well I called the imaging place I wanted to go to inquiring if they had a script to set me up for the chest CT. She looked me up and said I’m scheduled for 5/1 at the hospital. I told her they listened to nothing I told them, I’m not even in NY on 5/1.
Thankfully she was able to get me in on 5/16 at the imaging center and cancel the 5/1 appointment I never agreed to at the hospital. It’s a good thing I called.

Keep us posted on how you make out, and I’ll do the same.

Marge, We’ll be having our CTs on the same day. I’ll also have my follow up from the hip MRI with my MO that afternoon. I’ll see my pulmonologist a week later.

Cindy, I’m glad that you were able to reschedule your CT for the imaging center when you’ll be in NY. I worried about the switch to Medicare but so far haven’t had a problem, I went with traditional plus a supplement plan rather than advantage and all the imaging (4 CTs, 3 MRIs and a dexa scan within a year and a half) was covered with no questions. I went with my state retiree supplement for drugs rather than part D even though the premiums cost more which turned out to be a good thing when I needed an expensive med.

Hopefully all our results will be good.

Maggie we will be CT buddies. Hopefully all will be well. I just want answers. I also got my liver ultrasound schedule for April 30. It say for fatty liver elevation. Have to fast for 6 hours so I guess my oncologist is seeing fatty liver in my blood work.
cindy so glad you got your appt.
changed and where you wanted it at. It just sucks that we have to keep up with it and make sure they are doing there job.

    Hey Ladies!

Looks like April and May are busy months for is with our testing and CT scans. I hope you all get good news! I just had my repeat CT and one of the nodules grew from 16x6mm to 20x17mm so the radiologists is recommending a PET. Best wishes to all of you for your upcoming appointments!

Bookworm hope all goes well with your pet scan. I have 2 and they alway leave me wondering. Hope you have clear answer. I had my liver ultrasound it was pretty quick so I think everything was ok since they didn’t take long.

Marge, I’m glad your liver ultrasound went quickly. I had my repeat hip MRI yesterday and that “suspicious lesion” was still there. This time they ruled out fracture, osteoporosis, arthritis and osteonecrosis; infection, cancer and unknown are still on the table. My MO had wanted to do a FES-PET but a consulting radiologist said the location was unsuitable for that. This time the radiologist recommended a FDG-PET which my MO previously didn’t want to do. I see her Monday along with having my chest CT so I’ll hear what she has to say. I hope your CT goes well.

Bookworm, Have you had your PET scan yet?

Cindy, Your CT is coming up soon. I hope you get good results.

Maggie, your hip MRI leaving cancer and unknown on the table. I vote for unknown.

Marge, liver ultrasound going quickly I’d take as a good sign too.

I’m set for 5/16 and will keep you posted.

I got my liver ultrasound results.

I guess I have a fatty liver. Don’t know what the hyperechoic means but that wasn’t good in breast cancer but with the liver it might not.

  • maggie15
    maggie15 Member Posts: 1,438

Hi Marge, Hyperechoic liver can be caused by fatty liver or something else like cirrhosis. It would think that fatty liver is preferable. I only know about this second hand as my gastroenterologist told me that his patients who take CoQ10 for fatty liver say it helps their arthritis. He recommended that I take it to reduce inflammation since I can't take NSAIDs for pain. I guess that's one thing that can help fatty liver. I'm sure there are other recommendations that your doctor will have or you can add a gastro to your list of providers (it's amazing how that group of specialists grows.) It's good that no mets were seen. I have a surveillance EGD set for July 8 to keep an eye on my esophagus.

We both have our lung CTs on Monday so hopefully those results will be good. It will be interesting for you to find out what yours looks like post biopsy.

Thanks Maggie I went to google this and kinda has me worried. Stupid google. “There is a hypochoic area adjacent to the gallbladder that could represent an area of focal fatty sparing”

Yes hope our scans go well.

Maggie - how did your scan go. They told me two weeks till they have the results. How about you.

    maggie15 Member Posts: 1,438

Marge, My results aren’t up yet but they should be before I see my pulmonologist next week. I saw my MO in the morning and she now wants to do a FES PET/CT since the lesion in my hip is bigger than they thought. It’s in a location where a biopsy could break the hip so I’m getting it done on the 22nd. The radiologists have eliminated everything other than a bone met or something benign that looks like one. It will cover the whole body so I guess it will tell me about the lung nodules since it picks up extra estrogen.

I hope we all get good results.

    Maggie,

I have had 2 pet scans. They were FDG pet scans. I didn’t know there was different ones. Mine really didn’t make me feel better just left me wondering. The first one was before surgery so my breast tumor lit up at about 4 something and my lung lit up to 2.5 something and they said that wasnt bright enough to be cancer. So then I had a second one about 8 months ago and it lit up less and was smaller but I have 3 more in my left lung. So then the byopsy that was weird and not sure they got it. So we will see what this CT will say.
Really glad they are going to do it. If it lights up are they then going to try to byopsy it? I do t think mine was one that picked up on the estrogen. Did they see what on your bone with a MRI? Are you having pain? I have colonoscopy Friday and breast MRI on Tuesday and see my MO then too. Hope we won’t have to wait so long.

Hi Marge, They don’t want to do a FDG PET since they know it will light up from all the inflammation caused by tendinitis and degenerative changes they can see on the MRIs. The “ill defined” 25 mm lytic lesion is on the posterior acetabulum (inside the hip socket.) An ortho onc advised against biopsy since there is a high likelihood it would break my hip. The FES is relatively new and picks up estrogen receptors. If something else more accessible lights up they will biopsy that. I was surprised how much they could tell since my local ortho ordered the first MRI to see what was causing the pain and the local radiologist reported it could be a bone bruise, red marrow conversion or possibly a met. The reading radiologists at the big hospital seem to specialize in bone tumors and they got a second opinion from a radiologist at MSK in NYC. My MO said that it could be benign but if it doesn’t light up it will be monitored for growth with MRIs (just like our lung nodules!)

I hope your CT will show that the not-so-good biopsy removed that lung nodule and the colonoscopy and MRI are clear. I’m hoping my hip gets added to my other body parts (lungs, thyroid and esophagus) that are under surveillance. It’s nerve wracking but better than the alternative.

Maggie - that’s kinda cool that they can do that. Hope that there not a light show. Maybe they can scan a survey all at once so there not so many appt.
I want a whole body scan every 6 months. lol just check every part of me all at once.

    Hi all,

Today I had an appointment with my pulmonologist and went over my CT scan. I have two new nodules, a slightly enlarged one and the rest are the same size. My RIPF which worries me more is stable. He is happy so I am, too. I’ll scan again in 6 months and restart pulmonary function tests. I haven’t been doing them since I passed out from coughing during one a year and a half ago.

I hope everyone else gets good results. My FES PET/CT is next week. When I looked ar my calendar I realized that I am driving to Boston (100 miles each way) for eight weeks in a row. It’s worth it for the better medical care, though.
