Switching from AI to Tamoxifen - Bone loss

Hi,

I just met with a new oncologist after the retirement of my previous one. I have been on an Aromatase Inhibitor for six years with worsening bone loss. Taking Fosamax. The new oncologist suggests switching to Tamoxifen. Total treatment time would be 8 years vs. target of 7 if I stay on AI. Has anyone had or considered making the switch? Has anyone here done this? How did it go for you?
Thanks so much for your thoughts and insights!

I started on Tamoxifen was on for 4 1/2 years had a reoccurrence, had radiation then switched to Anastrazole. I‘be been on this for 2 years they want me on for 10 but my bones won’t make it!! Osteopenia in hip, osteoporosis in spine.

I am 67 years old & already had advanced osteoporosis at the time of my breast cancer diagnosis. So, after radiation they started me on Tamoxifen because of the other hormone therapy drugs side effects of bone loss. I have had to go off Tamoxifen a couple of times in the last 2 months due to side effect of extreme fatigue. But now I am taking it regularly for 13 days & learning to manage fatigue better, but still difficult. I will stick with it as long as I can.

I was on Tamoxifen for 14 years without any significant side effects. Hope this information helps.
