Osteoporosis and Tamoxifen

I am wondering if there is anyone out there who has been taking Tamoxifen and has been diagnosed with Osteoporosis. I am 48 and just had a DEXA scan, and it confirms Osteoporosis. :( My oncologist said that typically it shouldn't cause issues in pre-menopausal women, but there are some paradoxical instances where it does! I guess I am one of those! Ironically, I got this diagnosis today which is also my 10-year cancer-free anniversary date. Figures! Regardless, any insight on the treatment you chose, side effects, lifestyle modifications, etc, would be helpful.

Hi @caligirl76 So sorry. It's not too terrible to live with osteoporosis, for me a dx before the bc dx. Do Yoga for your whole body and mind, and especially for your back and to strengthen the muscles around your mid-section. (Hatha Yoga is among the most mild, Iyengar Yoga is more active, and Bikrams Yoga is very physical.) Be more mindful of not falling down since bones can become more brittle. I hope it isn't too shocking for you, but I ate enormous amounts of protein - litres of fresh whole milk, raw minced red meat like Steak Tartar, eggs, etc., and my bones became less brittle and my back healed from fractures (MBC related). I know there are also loads of dietary supplements to help protect and build bone density. Good luck!
