Surgery to prevent lymphodema and Leuprolide injection
First diagnosed in 2020 stage one grade 2 ( very small tumour). Had mastectomy on left breast. Tried tamoxifen but was unable to continue after 2 years due to severe chronic nausea( was down to 100 pounds and on gravol and ondasetron for months).
In mid November 2024, my armpit was itchy and that is where I felt a lump. Ultrasound showed nothing alarming(possible fatty tissue) but doctor wanted biopsy to make sure. They had a very difficult time getting a core biopsy as the lump is small and mobile. Were able to get two samples, then went to fine needle biopsy for the remainder. The fine needle samples came back clear, but core biopsies showed fragments of carcinoma er positive and pr positive(same as my fist tumour in left breast).
Had pet scan Thursday and it looks pretty good other than two lymph nodes in the armpit. The other concern from the pet is low to moderate grade activity within upper vagina/ cervical region. Will have to get that checked out next.
Met with breast surgeon yesterday who will take out the lymph nodes, and he is suggesting a plastic surgeon come in as well for lymph anastomosis to prevent lymphodema.
Anyone had this anastomosis procedure during their surgery? Anyone had a regional reoccurrence? My oncologist has brought up option of Leuprolide injections since I had a rough time with tamoxifen. He’s on the fence whether I should start them now or wait until after surgery. I’m considering getting my ovaries out, but may start the injections until that is possible. Thoughts? Experiences?
Thanks💕
