Cool Capping

I got fitted for my cool cap today. I start my first taxane treatment next Wednesday. I have thick hair but I did cut it to make more manageable to my chin. Looking to hear some experiences. I and so scared im not going to be able to handle it or I do it all for nothing.

    Hi, @clifford9416!

How are you? Starting your first taxane next Wednesday can make everything feel very close and very real.

Since you’re using cold capping, this discussion may also be useful: Cold Caps Users Past and Present, to Save Hair. There’s a lot there about what to expect, scalp care, and much more.

We know the first treatment often brings a lot of questions and a lot of “what will this actually be like?” You’re very welcome to come back and let us know how Wednesday goes. We're here for you!

    Warmly,

    The Mods

    Hi @clifford9416 -

Welcome to the forum. The mods have provided you with the thread that many of us posted in when we went through cold capping. Do you have someone who could go with you and help you make sure the cap is on good? If not, I'm sure you will manage. At my clinic, the nurses didn't assist much with capping at all, but I was able to use the restroom which had a large mirror to help ensure it got on right. It seems to vary by clinic whether or not the nurses assist. You can do it! It seems the average amount of hair saved by people was about 1/2. For me, this was important as I just felt that I didn't want to lose all of it.

Do some reading of the thread and feel free to add your questions to it. Good luck on Wednesday!

    Take Care.
