Hi everyone .. fairly new to this forum. My GP told me to not drink even though I'm not what you'd call a drinker .... maybe a glass of wine at the weekend, a couple with the girls when we gabfest, etc. Doc said that alcohol contributes to estrogen in the body (maybe she meant just wine?) and also it's not good for high blood pressure. Recently I was diagnosed as having borderline high bp (140/90) and the prescription was exercise and no drinking. But there are certain spirits I associate strongly with the holidays even with my Christmas cakes that have their fruits soaked in mead. And what's Christmas eve without some B&B? I am not giving up all drinking just drinking less. Life is to enjoy after all!

Good morning, Loungettes! Slept in a bit today as I was up late. Couple of friends came over and helped me burn off some brush and trash. Had lots of fun laughing and talking. Sadie discovered that sticking her nose into embers at the edge of the bonfire is not a good thing to do. She didn't get burned, but she sure did snort, shaker her head and give me dirty looks! To make it more fun it was actually snowing a little while we were burning. The fire was so hot we didn't even notice for a while!
Wahine-Yup, that was me. Handy with a needle and thread, I can be!
Bernie-if you are in the same time zone as Dublin, your time is 2:45 pm and mine right now is 9:45 am, same date. I'm on the east coast. Hmm, looks like we need one of those walls of clocks with the time from different places for the Lounge! We are truly international!
DorK-thank goodness I lost the post early on, hadn't written much yet. Was easy to remember what I had written. I add the pics after I copy/paste from word to the boards which makes losing just the written stuff easier to deal with. What is a tele-phyco thereapy session????
Kymn-WAY TO GO, GIRL!!! You handled that meeting beautifully! You put it right out in front of FAH how he has failed his responsibilities to you and the girls. If he's lonely, well, that's the consequence of being a FAH. And you are NOT forcing him to do anything. The courts will hold him accountable to meet his financial responsibilities to you and the children, how he has to do that is actually up to him. Don't take on that part of things. And HOORAY for the good check up, and HOORAY for being able to do it alone (although all of us here in the lounge were hiding in your pocket). YOU ROCK!
Goldie-Glad you enjoyed the post, I have fun putting them together! And since getting the appointment for counseling I actually feel calmer! How's that for mind over emotions?

Karen-I had forgotten that DS was kicking the mj habit, got to take that into consideration. Not having kids myself I don't think of the insurance details like that. Very good point. Getting through school is important and it can be the key to a good job. I think I met a Bernese Mountain Dog once, VERY LARGE DOG! It seems like the big breeds like that tend to die young. Bear sounds like a fun dog. It's hard to decide about adopting a dog when you've got lots of other emotional stuff going on. Hope you got your report finished in record time!

HAPPY B'DAY to dear Scuba.....there are a couple things that I have never done and are on my list to continue not doing....scuba diving and sky diving.....so can I join the party from the sidelines....I keep good track of all the drinks!!!
No clock there for Mountain time.....Denver is one hour later than LA and two hours earlier than NY....so as the clocks show, it would be 4:30 in Denver........
Welcome to the new Loungette.....my onc hasn't asked me about drinking since Dx, when everyone was asking me about drinking....back then I had the occasional glass of wine...and mostly just white one....maybe a glass or two at most some weeks and others none at all.....NOW....post Tx and 5 years 9 months post Dx...I drink red wine whenever I want which just happens to be most days!!!!! I figure I do my best to eat healthy, keep a good weight (though right now its not as good as I want it, but still well within normal limits), try to walk most days.....so I am going to indulge in things that I want to try to enjoy....either the beast will come back or it won't.....I did everything "right" before BC and I was still Dx stage 3.....OOOPS...was going to say that "S" word that we don't allow here, but I think after going through all we go through with Tx, its time to enjoy life the best we can, whether that means enjoying wine or other spirits or just the virtual drinking here at the HTL....and your are so right the girls here are awesome!!!
Just looked at the clock...it says 8:38....promised myself I would be off the computer at 8:30 so I could get busy doing what I need to get done today....clean the kitchen and bathrooms, sleep the floors, grocery shop and cook for Shabbat....so I'll try to be back later this afternoon

Sorry I haven't been round (n I'm not talking bout my shape) but went back to work couple days a week. Lovin it! Off taday n tamarie so gotta go bake some pumpkin pies in a min. DD is hosting early Turkey day (tomorrow) cuz her stepson leaving for bootcamp. I do the pies and 2 turkey breasts. Baking the breasts has never been symbolic b4...hmmm. This year will concentrate on making em the purdiest, juiciest, and BIGGEST ones ever! Did someone jes say I shud seek counseling? Heck wif it!!! Some of us can play wif r own, others...well...in the frozen food aisle...

I am soooo enjoying Scuby's bday! DH hired cleaning ladies every two weekd until Jan., as I still have one more surgery, and not released to vacuum etc. since last surgery. They came today, and when they got here, I went and picked up one of my oldest and dearest friends and we went and saw Twilight, Breaking Dawn, part one!! I don't know if any of you got into those books, but we LOVED them!! Have read them all twice! This was by far the best movie yet!!! Then came home to a clean house to boot! Gotta love it! I know Mrs. Scuby got her house cleaned this week, also. Yeh you! Hope the pampering is going well!!
OK, now going to dig through my recipe box to try and find my Grandma's swiss steak recipe. Just sounds good! It's 2:30 here, so 7:30 for you, right Bernie? Cheers!!

Welcome Olivia.......I will only speak for myself. I def. agree with NM (Native Mainer) that we want to LIVE life. But I think they just want to blame something, so why not blame alcohol, sorry...but I"m not buying it. But you have to do what you think is best for you, and what you are comfortable with.

Still glowing from Oysters Rockefeller Casserole. Needs a bit of refinement, but was beyond delish. Then, I still have another jar of oysters. Nothing like a sale on something you love to eat to get the creative cooking juices flowing.
Congrats on your birthday Scuby. Here in Seattle, they dive year round. Even when snowing. Just put on wet suits.

Aww, Cindy! I hope you assured your lil one that you are definately going to be alright! Before you know it, you will be celebrating cancer-free-versaries! It was fun watching you giggle at the foil. I told the story of my most recent surgery, scheduled for 11 freaking 30 am. Did not get in until 1pm and was starving. I got to witness staff bringing in sandwiches wrapped in foil. I was so hungry too.But it was worth it, Junie was there in the foil and gave the doctor perfect skills and attention to detail making this past surgery a success story. I believe in the power of foil.
I am up way too late. I am finally organizing my filing cabinet and went through reams and reams of papers. Go me.
Who's dwinking? Me going to reward myself with a dwink and a crouton that fell on the floor. No worries, Pants just mopped and sanitized.

1/2 Oz blue curaçao
2 Oz sweet and sour mix
2 Oz diet 7up (gotta save the calories for de booze!)
Shake it all up, pour over ice and enjoy!

Well girls, I just got back from the city where I celebrated with two GS's for their birthdays. I am now officially the grandmother of a 16 and 14! Oh man, is that making me feel old or what?!!! So to compensate, I went and got myself the new iPhone 4S......lol.......now I just have to learn to use it!
Mmmmm....I think Mr Big might just be the one to hang over my shoulder and point things out......maybe he could also bring a few DOTD's with him.

For those of us having trouble sleeping, I found this cocktail: THE BIG SLEEP
1 1/2 oz. cognac
1 tsp sugar (superfine if possible)
1/2 oz. lemon juice
5 oz. sparkling wine (brut champagne or cava, preferably)1. Pour the brandy, sugar, and lemon juice in a champagne flute and mix gently with a stirrer.
2. Top up with chilled sparkling wine and serve.

Lisa, Funny about the sky-diving. I actually wouldn't mind doing that...my late DH was a JumpMaster with his Green Beret unit. He loved it, and of course ALWAYS packed his own parachute! All I have done in that genre is parasailing.....so lame, but the only opportunity I have had, so far. Not going to try scuba, as my sinuses are so bad that I figure my ears would mess up. My cuz in HI worked in the hyperbolic chamber (sp?) where people would come, with the bends. That is scary! You are so expert at it, and I can only imagine the awesome sights you see, underwater!!! Soon gal, you will be back under da watah!!
