Love to catch up with all the posts.  Just to update everyone.  I had a chest x-ray and post chemo/rad mammogram 2 weeks ago.  Thankfully both were clear.  So much to be thankful for now.  As to finger nails, my Onc told me that it is the Taxotere that does the damage, not Herceptin. Mine still look like crap and I finished up in July.

  • soriya 123....my BS told me (and recent research states this too) that for the patient who had neoadjuvant chemo, the surgical approach is to do a sentinel node dissection of 2to3 lymph nodes. If those are clear (they can check the status while your still in surgery) then there is not a need for ALND. However if the sentinel nodes still show signs of cancer; then the ALND is performed. Hope thus helps.

Thanks guys, I'm still doing the happy dance and just treaded for 20 minutes. I'm up to a mile with an incline of 4 at 3 MPH...not great, but my middle toes on my left foot are peeved at me.

Ashla is right, I have scanxiety! I'm going to keep that term in my melon when I go again in June. Cracks me up!

Soriya, hope you are feeling a-ok. I'm pretty sure Girlstrong hit the nail on the head. If they see even a slight involvement of the sentinel node (s), they'll take more just in case. But I did hear ALND isn't that common anymore. Search this site, since they seem to address almost every topic with wonderful accuracy!

Mom, getting done with chemo is huge! I did weekly taxol and I kept ticking them off, getting more and more tired and weak. Don't expect to be 100% right away. Be more patient than I was. But you are very close to the end of the tunnel so Congrats!!!

  • Being able to finish chemo is beyond a major big huge deal. I am stand in awe of those who complete the course. I finished 7 taxol before my first MX and the 2nd and 3rd new "shadows" were found. After surgery I had 2 more rounds and was deemed super toxic. Waited a few weeks and tired taxotere-was supposed to be 3-4 rounds. After 1, really thought that was the end of the line for me. Lost 17lbs in 3 weeks, banned to my house with bottom of the pit nutrapenia. Drier than the proverbial bone. So no more.

I really really stand in awe of those who are so strong and brave and able to finish.

But every woman on this board is extraordinary.

I so agree that all the women in these boards ... Including you... Are extraordinary and that getting through chemo is a major big deal. . But getting through chemo and indeed any of these treatments is also a matter of biology and some luck. Some of us do not have the underlying physiology to withstand and recover from these treatments. You and they are no less brave than others.

Thank you all for your kind words . Susan I agree with Ashla getting through all these txs is a matter of luck n biology and you are all amazing strong women . This thread has helped me so much , I myself am not very vocal but through you all Ive attained strength and knowledge and for that I thank you all .

Pbrain - congratulations on the mammogram results!

McKatherine - radiation really wore me down and on top of it all, I became very irritable during that time period. Even clothing irritated me - and not just the clothing above the waist.

Soriya - I use Doctor's Best Curcumin with Bioperine (500 mg).

Hi to everyone. We went on a cross-country driving trip to see family in Indiana and New York. 18 days total.

I had my 18th (of 18) Herceptin infusion yesterday and am scheduled for my exchange surgery this coming Tuesday in California. A blip on the happy meter came today in the form of an abnormal EKG (I had Herceptin less than 24 hours before). Something about nonspecific T-waves. On October 31 I had a completely normal echocardiogram and ejection fraction was a-okay. The cardiologist gave me the approval for the surgery (his office is faxing it to my PS) but it still makes me nervous. I have to schedule a stress test in a few weeks. It sure does feel like it's always something!

I'm not yet caught up on the thread but I hope everyone is doing well!

    Yeah Momx!

SusanHG123 Finishing chemo has nothing to do with how many treatments were prescribed. I mean I had 6 but compared to what you went through it was much easier for me. I don't know if I could have handled it if I had your severe SE.

PBrain Did I mention how happy I am for you?

I had an abnormal pre op EKG and had to postpone my lumpectomy. Freaked me out because I had neo adjuvant chemo and at the time had no idea if chemo had worked! This ... These setbacks ... Is where we need to summon all that strength and courage. Good luck!

On the biotin... I can't find the discussions. Recommendations as to brand and dose? Has it worked for you. ladies? Is there a down side? Have not asked my MO yet.

Went pixie the other day. Gonna rock that friggin pixie!

I'm just catching up after being AWOL for a few days

Congratulations Pbrain!!! I'm so pleased for you 😄

In the meantime, I've had the surgery on my knee. All went very well and I really don't have any pain at all - just one very swollen knee and a few stitches that have to stay in for about 2 weeks. I already know that its muck better than it was, now I can't wait to be able to walk properly again!!

LeeA, you, Fluffqueen and I could have had a Hoosier hoe down!! What part of Indiana were you in? Fluff is south of me by about 25 minutes.

Don't fret over the abnormal EKG, it could be something as simple as too much caffeine or being a bit dehydrated. Hopefully all will be fine with your next one. Non-specific T waves aren't really a big deal, so do your best to not worry and enjoy your trip to CA, if you can.

Ashla, we want to see a pic of your rocking pixie! Mine is so damn curly, and my hair is so coarse that it stands on end in the mornings. I'm not sure I'm actually rocking it. More like I'm just glad to have some hairs on my head ;-)

Thanks Lago for the sweet support. I'm thrilled to be free of mammograms for another 6 months. They give me the willies these days.

And Susan, you did what you could do. I ended up in the hospital after my first chemo and I was sobbing on the shoulder of the volunteer who worked at the breast cancer gift shop in the lobby. I told her if I had to go through another one of those treatments I knew I would die. Luckily my MO moved me over to weekly taxol which I tolerated, but it still was no picnic.

So one of my cardiologist buddies is dealing with alopecia. He just made full professor and is a bit stressed. He says 10,000 mcg per day of biotin...he says it isn't doing much for him yet, but he knows eventually it should work.

LeeA, just a little info to help calm you. Now you don't want your ST waves to be elevated, but t wave changes are pretty random :-)

Your hair looks great short! Here is me when it was a little longer and unruly but slicked back so it looks pretty much the same now. This is my hairstyle like forever now.
