No exercise for me yesterday, it was snowing at lunch, and then I had a social engagement at a friends house after work. Cold but clear out today, so I hope to get out for a brisk walk at lunch. Back to the gym tomorrow. Thanks for the reminder Ruth, I will need to tell my trainer to cut stuff down for me, still a little sore and swollen today. When we started doing arms I just went with it, didn't want to blurt out to him and the whole gym that I had breast cancer! I'll see if I can catch him privately next Wednesday, or perhaps I'll phone him earlier in the day. Any guidelines out there for what I should or shouldn't be doing? Perhaps I should jump on over to the lympaedema forum.

Pat - here's a handout you can print out and give to him - it's was put together especially for trainers and fitness instructors to explain all about B/C and LE and exercise. The idea was to save us from exactly what you said - needing to have an awkward and embarrassing public discussion of our b/c:

That swelling is worrisome. Drink plenty of fluids to keep hydrated, and if it continues, you may want to schedule an appointment with your LE therapist. Also, the LE forum is great, as is the Step Up Speak Out LE website: http://www.stepup-speakout.org

Bounce: Great improvement from last February! LOL on the vacuuming.
Fast walked today at the park. I was upset about something and talked out loud about the whole time! Luckily there was only one other person there. She probably was afraid I was going to attack her!

Hi all. Made it to the gym yesterday and did 20 mins on stat bike and about 40 mins upper and lower body weights.
Taking tonight off but will do more this weekend.

Horribly crazy busy stressful week for me and I've been very bad. No workouts at all for except the usual stair steps at work (I work one flight up from the bottom floor) and home just doing the normal everyday tasks.......sigh

I lost a couple of pounds from the move, so close to my fighting weight. The big news is that I SURVIVED THIS WEEK. Settling in, and realize that the action will be outside this place, not with the residents. That is fine. I do miss some of the people where I used to live. No funny looks when I breezed in after a run.
I got in a run somewhere between 1-2 miles, past horse farms and with a good hill at the end. Resume weights and crunches NEXT week. Somehow, think I am OK in the lifting area. (Made it up the hill just fine.)
Man o man, am I glad I moved here. Gorgeous scenery (pix later) and so much easier covering the action. Plus, a much bigger place. It's shaping up nicely. Just discovered there is a meat market featuring local meats down the hill in Duvall so I will be visiting.
My Hungarian goose down comforter is everything I imagined it would be and more. I can't believe it took so many decades to catch on. My old one was fine, but this is amazing.
Off to Vancouver BC in the AM to see my friend Melissa Skelton consecrated as Bishop of the Diocese of New Westminster (Anglican Church of Canada). Truly exciting. The most funny picture ever of her in her bish hat surrounded by moving boxes. I will be finding a new church closer to where I live than Seattle.
Mountains all around here. So while not quite the view I had with my Seattle place, I am so thrilled that I get to see thrilling vistas whenever the sun is out. Plus, suspect an amazing night sky. More to come.

I subbed in 6th grade social studies today; very fun & I am now pondering the question: if the ancient Romans could put a retractable roof on the Coliseum (something I learned today), why couldn't the Minnesota Twins put the same on their brand new Target field?

Yes, and the phrase "all roads lead to Rome" was true; because when they built the roads to all the parts of their Empire, all those roads did lead back to Rome! End of tonight's history lesson, I am off to bed too.

Oh, Ruth!!!! That picture is my dream porch! (I'm pretending there are mountains to the left.)
It's snowing again today here, but at least our high should feel like 21 above. I'd love to go ice skating if my family agrees, but DH is the main shoveler and he hurt his back a couple of weeks ago. (Shoveling, digging out cars and pushing them.)
Just finished riding 15 miles inside.
DD and I just signed up for our first 5K. "Run or Dye." It's only two months away and I am not a runner. I printed a "Couch to 5K" training schedule that says we can get there in two months, but have nowhere to go run right now...still two feet of snow on the rail-to-trail and roads are icy and rutted. Guess I should have signed us up for a Fall run. My friend who did it last year said it's so crowded that we'll be lucky to do a fast walk, but we really want to train for it. Meanwhile...more basement stairs!!

I didn't know we could count vacuuming. LOL I vacuum every day! Even vacuumed on the 4th day post-bmx. And, I'd like to point out that our vacuum is super heavy, and then when you change the bag it is even heavier. I actually don't enjoy vacuuming, but can't stand to see the foot impressions on a daily basis. (we take off shoes outside front door). I wish we had hardwood floors again!

Ooh Dolce - do I sense a touch of OCD there with the foot impressions? lol! I can live with foot impressions on the carpet but I can't stand it when my towels aren't folded just so and stacked neatly (and will refold them if I find some in the closet that aren't right!). I guess we all have a need to feel control over one thing or another in our lives. Not sure if it's really OCD but it does make me chuckle.
Edited to add: P.S. I could barely lift a full glass of milk 4 days post-BMX. There is no effing WAY I could have been vacuuming! (my mom took care of that for me)

This thread is always a source of inspiration to move. Wow - I'm amazed that winter is still going full force for some of you! Budapest has had its share of winter muck but so little snow and ice this year. I'm disappointed to not have had the chance this season to use the awesome Icebugs that I bought last year.
Mucky trail hike for an hour with my dog yesterday, we had to rinse off afterwards we were both so muddy! Pilates trapeze and wunda chair work today, really good stretches and ab work.
Spring is coming soon, I just know it.

My vacuum cleaner is heavy and my right arm is weak - so I included it. Today I did some dusting - I won't include that.
Also I thought the voices might tell me to vacuum more as well as exercise more - turns out the voices are very kind about housework.
38 walk in the park today - I have added an extra bit to our regular route - hope to find some more paths to make it 45 minutes.
However - I have been feeling out of sorts lately and treated myself with liberal - medicinal doses of cake today.
It may not be healthy for my body but it did make me feel better.
So tomorrow must be back to healthy choices.

Since I'm finding it hard to believe that spring will show up around here any time soon, I bought a new exercise DVD for days I can't (or don't want to) get out. Denise Austin's Personal Training System. I went it today & it is actually pretty good. You can either chose a low or high intensity workout (20 minutes cardio & 10 minutes each of upper body, lower body, abs & stretch. Or you can customize your workout......if you do you can choose between three levels for the upper body (low, medium, or high intensity) and the same levels for the lower body. I was thinking that those choices would be great for starting out after surgery....you could program in the low for the upper body & medium or high for the lower, or just do the lower body & abs....whatever. It might be a safer way to work back up (although I would start with no weights, just going through the motions at first with any arm things)....something to maybe check out if you are interested.
Now I am off to eat Mexican & go to a basketball game, which will no doubt involve popcorn.....sigh.....this is why I HAVE TO work out!!!!!

Bounce - I occasionally self-prescribe liberal medicinal doses of cookies or doughnut holes or frosting or Kraft caramel bits or lemon bars or chocolate or........you get the picture. Your particular medicinal regimen sounds totally acceptable to me....lol!

Yes! I am a self-diagnosed OCD person. LOL The diagnosis of bc has left me trying to let up on some of my obsessiveness. For instance: I have to have my blueberry bags facing the same way in the freezier, everything in the cupboard must have front label facing left, all sodas of my husbands and all our water must have labels facing frontwards, spices and cans in alphabetical order, magazines and knick knacks angled just right. And like you, I do the same thing, if I find something not sitting right in the towel cupboard, blankets, etc, I will pull out and refold. I've been trying really super hard. I can say this: I no longer have to make sure the socks are lying perfectly flat. As long as they are stacked up I'm okay with that now. Some lie flat naturally, but on those where you have to make the seam and then get them to lie flat, I no longer do that! I am making progress here.) Baby steps.
ROFL - Won't include dusting. That's cute! Maybe it counts as light exercise if you had to reach up high.

I haven't checked in much this week and boy did it take a lot to catch up. Work is so busy I hardly have time for anything but I did 8 flights of stairs on Thursday. I can't believe how much I have improved in the short time I started doing these. Thanks to those who do stairs here for the idea. Honestly the first time I did six and thought I was having a heart attack.
Yesterday I went with my son and my dog on a short walk and also went to the grocery store. This morning I went to my first yoga class. My yoga teacher said I did good but I think she lied! My arms are quite weak, my flexibility sucks, but my posture is pretty good. Years of a bad back has taught me not to slouch. I know I'm going to hurt tomorrow. It's snowing today so I'll be able to shovel and sculpt tomorrow.
Badger, 18 days till spring sounds good but I don't think either of us is going to recognize spring in 18 days.

TwoHobbies, yeah, it's not looking good for the next little while. Just did a round of Shovel & Sculpt for the 4" we got so far. Still snowing, maybe 2" more if weather-guesser is right.

Dulci, I'm impressed. I'll be interested to hear how your couch to 5K training works for you. I've set a much less impressive goal of running my first 5K ever by the end of the year. So far I'm just up to running one continuous mile very slowly and that's what I did for exercise today, in addition to walking the dogs.
