Ruth, I love that! Happy Birthday!
Claire, your new place looks so cozy.
Cold, windy & rainy here today. Supposed to have freezing rain/sleet tomorrow. Didn't even get out to walk the dogs, but I did go to the gym and run 1.5 mile on the treadmill and did some stretching.

Ann, I checked out a folding, weighted hoop the other day in a sports store and wow, was it heavy!
Was sunny and clear this morning so got out and ran a 5k, then yoga at the gym this overcast afternoon.
There was a new women having a pamper day at the spa with her daughter in yoga, (a class is included in a spa day) the mother was wearing a compression sleeve and gauntlet on her right arm. They did not want to stay for meditation and followed them out and invited this sleeve/gloved woman of our tribe to pink ribbon pilates on Thursday mornings. She was touched I reached out and hope we do see her. I hesitate in being too forward to strangers as the majority here are reserved, yet my motives are good and she was suprised when I told her I had a mx/reconstruction. She had three years ago a lumpectomy, clear lymph node biopsy yet had 32 removed (!?!) by a consultant who was my first consult for surgery and I would not let this guy cut me a section of orange. let alone my left breast. This is the second clearance of a clear lymph node biopsy I've heard about with this particular breast surgeon. Kept it zipped but my opinion of this butcher has been strengthened.

Lilac....I understand your hesitation in approaching someone, but, I think it was a wonderful gesture on your part, and obviously, well received. That surgeon should be reported imho!!!!!!!
60 minutes of dreadmill intervals.....now off to have a massage....yum!

Core & Pilates.
On a Stage II thread, we have been talking about aspirin and it's role in recurrence risk. I think it is important enough to share it here too. Of course, if you aren't already taking a daily low dose aspirin, check with your doctor before starting to do so. The following is a July 17, 2013 article from Healthline. Pretty exciting!
"A 2,000-year-old drug that costs just pennies could be the latest weapon against cancer. New studies link aspirin use to lower risk for at least eight types of cancer: those of the breast, colon, esophagus, stomach, prostate, bladder, ovary and skin.
Harvard researchers reported that women who took low-dose aspirin (100 mg) every other day had a 20 percent drop in colon cancer risk, compared to women who took a placebo, according to new data from the Women’s Health Study. The findings were published in Annals of Internal Medicine.
“Evidence that aspirin may have cancer-protective properties is both pervasive across medical literature and increasingly robust,” says Marc Penn, MD, PhD, FACC, co-founder and chief medical officer of Cleveland HeartLab.
Earlier studies have reported that 75 mg a day of aspirin may cut colon cancer risk by 17 to 28 percent, and also lower the risk of death after a colon cancer diagnosis by 30 to 40 percent.
The study adds to many other new findings suggesting that this ancient remedy may be a remarkably affordable wonder drug that could help prevent cancer or stop the disease in its tracks. Here are a few particularly noteworthy new studies:
- Breast cancer: In a Scottish study involving 116,181 women, those who took aspirin regularly for 3 to 5 years had a 30 percent drop in breast cancer risk, while a 40 percent risk reduction was seen after more than 5 years of aspirin use.
- Skin cancer: Women who take aspirin regularly have a 21 percent decrease in risk for melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, compared to non-users, according to a 12-year study of nearly 60,000 women, ages 50 to 79, published in the journal Cancer. After 5 or more years of regular use, risk for melanoma fell by 30 percent.
- Prostate cancer. Taking aspirin may help men with prostate cancer live longer, by inhibiting the cancer’s growth and spread, according to a 2012 study of nearly 6,000 men published in Journal of Clinical Oncology. The ten-year death rate from the disease was 3 percent among the aspirin users versus 8 percent in non-users.
- Other common cancers. Daily aspirin use for prevention of heart attacks seems to have an extra benefit: lower 20-year risk of developing or dying from several common cancers, including a 42 percent reduction in colon cancer and reduced risk for esophageal, gastric, biliary, and breast cancer, according to an analysis of more than 41 trials published in Lancet.
Warning Signs of Breast Cancer
Why Does Aspirin Reduce Cancer Risk?
Also known as acetylsalicylic acid, aspirin has two effects that may explain why people who take it regularly for heart attack prevention are less likely to get cancer, says Dr. Penn, who is also director of cardiovascular research at Summa Cardiovascular Institute in Akron, Ohio.
“Aspirin decreases inflammation, which has been shown to play a role in cancer development, and also blocks platelet function,” reports Dr. Penn. “Platelets carry significant amounts of growth factors that may contribute to tumor growth in areas of tissue injury.”
Slowing Down DNA Damage in Patients at High Risk for Cancer
Another new study offers surprising insight into how aspirin may combat cancer. The researchers discovered that the headache-and-heart-attack prevention pill may slow down DNA mutations in abnormal cells in people with a pre-cancerous disorder called Barrett’s esophagus. People with this disorder are at increased risk for esophageal cancer.
In a new study published in PLOS Genetics, the researchers analyzed biopsies from 13 patients with this disorder and tracked their health for 6 to 19 years. The scientists found that on average, in years when the patients took aspirin daily, they accumulated new DNA damage ten times more slowly than they did in years when they weren’t taking the drug.
The team plans additional research to explore the theory that aspirin’s anti-inflammatory powers are why it reduces DNA mutations that could lead to cancer."

Ruth - interesting. I switched MOs once active treatment was over. At our first consult, my new onc said she wanted me to do 3 things - exercise at least 30 minutes daily, maintain a normal weight, and take a baby aspirin daily. I've struggled with the weight thing, but I've been good about the exercise and aspirin. Sounds like she was ahead of her time! A year ago she added that she wanted me to start Vit D supplements to maintain a good Vit D level.

Very interesting. My dermatologist just prescribed 1 baby aspirin per day to help my (newly diagnosed) rosacea. It appeared not long after my bc diagnosis. I'm also on metformin for PCOS. I wish I had the ability to study how these things all tie together and what my body is/was lacking.

Happy Birthday, Ruth!
My onc wanted me to take aspirin while I was on Femara, but it dried my mouth up even more than Femara alone. Maybe I'll think about taking it again now while I'm on Tamoxifen and don't have the mouth issues anymore. In which case I'll probably drop the metformin which is making me constipated. Dulcigirl, is it the metformin giving you rosacea?
Lots of walking in the rain today. LB, I tried the revoflex last week and I hurt all over.

Walked the dogs and then went to the gym and did strength training and stretching.
Ruth, my MO is a big proponent of aspirin. He said I could take 325 mg. daily, but I take 81 mg, because I also take fish oil and don't want to thin my blood too much.

Still walking...pretty boring I guess but try to vary the path and take my mini schnauzer...4 miles today and so off to radiation...2nd day...

I also take a baby aspirin everyday and Metformin as well, prescribed off label for risk reduction. Additionally, I aim for 8 hours of exercise a week, following the suggestions in this article. It suggests 45 minutes a day can reduce risk up to 40% and 75 minutes a day up to 60%. http://nosurrenderbreastcancerhelp.org/page93/pag...
For problems with Metformin, before dropping it, I recommend trying brand name Glucophage. Several of the women on the boards have had problems until they switched to brand name.

3.25 miles walk/run on the treadmill followed by lower back and ab work, then stretching.

Heidihill..definately not! I've actually been on Metformin for about 6 years. Rosacea is a new development about a year and a half ago. I'm thinking due to stress, etc. but I have other skin conditions too, so maybe It's another genetic thing.
When I first started the Metformin my dr had prescribed a time release (one-a-day). I felt awful with that. I switched to take 500mg twice daily. MUCH better!!! But, if I eat too many nasty carbs (the cake/cookie kind) I'll still get nauseous. Good accountability.

A little bit of mall walking today. But today is normally my off day.

Sunday - mall walked 1 hour. Yesterday - 30 mins stat bike; 30 mins treadmill. Today - 1 hour upper and lower body weights.

Did a variety of exercise today. 15 minutes of Yoga, 15 minutes of weights and 30 minutes circuit training.

Body Jam class tonight, lots of arm twirling and Irish clogging like movements it was exhausting and it was #crazy

LilacBlue, I would be afraid to use a weighted hoop due to risk of getting some serious bruises. The hoops made for hoop dance are hollow plastic tubing of different sizes with no added weight.
Weights and hooping today. I'm going to go back to doing weights daily, different exercises each day. I was aiming for every other day, but that leads to me skipping more days and losing the habit. I don't really enjoy doing weights but I like the effects.

So true, Ann. The fun stuff is easy to do everyday and the other stuff quickly gets pushed aside. I used to do weights daily but now a week could pass without doing them. Have to get back on track.

This is such a fast moving thread! So much to catch up on. Happy belated birthday Ruth! Mary, thanks for the links to those handouts, I just printed them. I was supposed to have a training appt. tonight, but I'm trying to reschedule for Saturday. I was sore and a bit swollen for a few days after my last visit, so I have done no upper body stuff since. I need to find another LE therapist, hopefully one that is closer to me - the other one was great but a 45 minute drive from where I live and work. Did get one visit in to the gym for the treadmill, and been walking at lunch at work, and some classical stretch most mornings. My fitbit is on the fritz, contacted the company and they said it is experiencing a system error, and to return it. So no idea if I'm getting my 10k/day steps in (I suspect not). I've done couch to 5 k before, never did get up to 5k, but the running/walking intervals are really good for you, it's a good program to start running with.
Winter be gone - I'm so ready for spring!

Frazzly day yesterday - had appointments for first thing in the morning with window repair guy (a window cracked) and plumber (I overstuffed the garbage disposal and totally clogged the kitchen sink!). I was so proud that I'd arranged them both for early morning so I could get at least half a day of work in. Well, you know what happened - no one got there when promised, and I ended up missing the whole day of work. And I was stuck at home waiting all day, so I couldn't even get errands done. Did manage to get a half an hour of yoga in, but that's it for exercise. The good news is that the window was replaced and the kitchen sink works now.

Agree on weights - I need to do them more, but I always seem to promise myself that I'll do them "tomorrow".

I am feeling major benefits from resuming my weights/crunches routine. I can't believe how just one week and things start to go south. I got in a wet walk last night.
I am beyond busy as my client who only calls when in a bind and stuff she can't easily do. So I have that on my plate too. Right now, I am working on about 4 projects. I am not going to the opera tonight. Just can't.
Plus, still have updating etc associated with the move. I need to find a nice wardrobe for my bedroom, which will turn that corner into a dressing area. That is the last major piece of setting up. Well, a closet re-org so I can actually find my clothes. It is so wonderful having everything organized. I do want an electric fireplace which this small project will fund.
I am so glad I made this move. Much as I loved my old place, it really was cramped. Loving the space here and that I can organize everything. I need to get to work. A slow go this AM as dragging. Hoping for a break in the action next week. I can use one. But not complaining about work either. Three years ago, I was wondering if I would ever re-launch my career. I got there.
Off for more tea! And hopefully a run later today. - Claire

Well, here's what the Wednesday Walking Women were up to today. The other 'queen' and I have birthdays two days apart, hence the double tiaras, boas & scepters. I will do Zumba tonight too. Our regular teacher is out of town & the gal who teaches 'Insanity' is the substitute.....

Walked the dogs and jogged a mile today.
I won't be posting daily for awhile, maybe just weekly. I am cutting down on my use of internet and social media, but not truly "giving up" anything except Facebook for Lent. This is just so I can focus more on my relationship with God and my family. I love these boards and the encouragement from all of you, but I just always seem to spend more time online than I intend to when I log in.

Hi Everyone! So far today: 8.5 miles - 60 minutes EFX. I'm getting ready to go do a 2 mile moderate-difficult intense hike. It's a new trail, so don't know much about it. We are doing this one because it's half the distance of the other trial and we are trying to make the Black Angus lunch special by 3PM today. You know, priorities here.

Sorry Ruth, happy belated birthday!
Taking tonight off, well maybe will jog in place while I watch the news later. Want to finally get around to doing my taxes. I'm usually done by first week in Feb but just keep putting it off. Wonder if I somehow sense that I may owe this year - hope not.
Night my sculpted friends.

Inspired, love your priorities...lol.
Did several miles on the treadmill (incline training), several miles on the bike plus some toning with weights.

I'm reporting yesterdays exercise of walking 35 minutes and going to the grocery store and cleaning my house. My feet hurt so bad last night that today I did none. I saw an article today that chemo causes lasting inflammation. They were talking about that inflammation causing fatigue but if it causes inflammation that would explain the issue with my feet and hands. So I took two cancer preventing aspirin, rested today and I hope eventually it will go away so I can stand to be a "daily" girl at some point.
Patoo I haven't done my taxes either. Nor have I renewed my license or license plate. I'm sure there's more! Ruth you look marvelous in a tiara. Annie that's a worthy endeavor to give up hanging online all day. Sometimes I see my family and each of us is on our respective computers. It's a little worrying. I am giving up all sugar just to see if I can. Wish me luck, all!

Cabin fever abated today!!! The warmer temps have reached the mountains!!!!! It dumped snow on us the whole day, but it was just heavenly being back on the ski trails. Nothing but fun and smiles and gorgeous scenery. We are going back again on Friday!!!!!
This is what 13 days until Spring looks like in the Canadian Rockies.

Nihahi that is gorgeous!!! LOL IBD yup your priorities are in the right place. Love the cartoon Ruth. Mary it's typical that workmen never seem to come on time, how come when they give you the 8 to 12 window it's always nearer the 12 never the 8! Add me to the taxes not done yet group, hopefully next week

Did Sh'bam this morning and Body Combat tonight and then came home and my friend was BBQ'ing so had delicious steak for dinner.
