Badger: good job on the 5k!

Ruth: I love going through old pictures also!

Picked up trash this morning for 2 and a half hours at our public library as part of a community day. Then came home and did some yard work.

Badger, wtg on your 5k!! Sounds like we had the same crowd.. Wonderland, I applaud you for helping out in the community. Feel more people should but...     Patoo, will be in your pocket as well.

Absolutely beautiful weather today as it was mid 60's to low 70's...The obstacles were challenging but so much fun!! Had a great time and am planning to do it again next year. In the meantime, I will need to find another 5k run as this event didn't even feel like a run even since most the running was in between obstacles with a few longer stretches intermixed.

Badger and Odie congratulations to you both. Patoo I agree it's good that your doc is cautious, sorry you have to do the prep again but glad that you'll be in good hands and yes I'll be in your pocket tooHappy Ruth I didn't know you back then but I'm loving all the pics you're putting up on FB. Sweet I have a friend who did a camera safari to South Africa, she said the worst part was actually getting there, two 13 hour flights but the pictures she came back with are magnificent.

Did a Body Combat class this morning.

Bounce, sounds like you've got the exercise bug now!

Odie, how did the race go?

Wonderland, my mom died young-ish but she did have some height loss already, so my doc counted that as family history. No fractures though.

Heidihill, I do some weights and did a lot of hill-hiking this year but I agree with you hooping is probably not a big bone builder. I read one study where jumping made a measurable difference-- like actually jumping up in place 20 times a day.  Need to look that up.

Badger and Dulcigirl, good job on the couch to 5k.  I admire anyone who takes up running after about age 25!

On sleep-- I used melatonin 3mg for years and it did help.  I'm now on triazolam for sleep.  Was still using the melatonin as well so I tried dropping it and no difference.  Thus one less pill per day.

Got out for a 2 mile walk today.  It felt really good to be outdoors.  I have been slacking on the hiking lately so want to get back to it.  Will be spending 4 hours driving tomorrow for a 3 hour hoop workshop.  That's a very full day for me!

Ann, when my bones were feeling too fragile for jumping, I did "heel drops" instead. You go on your tippy toes and then drop your heels to the ground. You can build up to jumping in place and then off a step.

Odie, your race sounds like what it feels like for me running indoors at home.

    Badger, that is very respectable!

Biked around town to do errands.

Have fun today Ann, Odie three words - obstacle race awesome and Badger, you absolutely rock with your excellent 5k fast walk time.

Ran 5.11k this morning and pb with 33:43!  Watching London Marathon and it's simply amazing as the feel good vibe and inspiration is flying off the flat screen.  Can't stop blubbing as the BBC commentators are stopping runners on London Bridge the half way mark and ask about the charities they are running for.  It gets me in the gut hearing the reasons and one breast cancer women burst into tears telling her story and cried with her.

    Good job Lilac!

I am a crier. Monday nights I cry during Dancing with the Stars when the little gal, who lost both legs & a kidney to meningitis, dances so beautifully on her artificial legs. This Friday night, I cried my way through a documentary about the lives of the survivors of the Boston Marathon bombing. So many stories of courage wherever you go. There are many, many people in the world being heroes every day of their lives.....

Ruth & LB, I'm a crier too.  I well up at the drop of a hat.  Lots of things 'get' me.  Stories on the radio, images in the newspaper, the American flag, and yes DWTS.  The first time I did yoga I cried for the sheer emotion of gratitude.

Surprisingly sore today in a good way.  I paced against a really fast lady which got me up a long hill.  Spoke with her afterwards and said good job and thanks, which made her smile.  Today is cold & wet.  Maybe nice enough to get out later but it's a yoga stretch kind of morning. ♥

oops...forgot to post yesterday. Drove to the mountains but it was just to pick up some skis. The roads were yucko, and I am "done" mentally with winter sports, so we didn't play. When I got home, I had too much nervous energy built up, so went for a 5k run/walk.

Sounds like the outdoor running events are really picking up....so great to be outside!

FYI....even for non-runners, the C25K program is a great tool to build fitness. You can substitute the "run" times for higher intensity of what you're doing...ie....pedal harder, walk faster, increase resistance, etc. It's the way the program builds your fitness by intervals that is so effective.

Got in over 12,000 steps yesterday with housework and running errands. Today I got in a nearly 60 minute walk after church. Thought it was going to be rainy all day so the voices made me take advantage of the lull.

I also well up  with tears more easily now than I used to.......

I'm still working on walking upright, so no c25k for me yet. Although I did bookmark the site for future reference.

Washed the windows in my house today, (stretching) also did 5 loads of laundry, so lots of steps. Looking forward to exercise class tomorrow.

I'm going to look up beginner Zumba on the net and see if there's anything in our area.

    Have a great evening.

I don't understand the statistics above.  Is the benefit only .88, or less than 1% for adding aspirin to our regimen?

I google'd the excerpt, and it took me to this publication, and I found this statement interesting .... and I'm wondering if Ibuprofen should be taken, because that would reduce inflammation and they say inflammation can be a factor for cancer:

"Aspirin Intake and Survival After Breast Cancer"

"Our results are consistent with two other studies reported in 2007. Kwan et al33 reported on NSAID use and recurrence among 2,292 women with early-stage breast cancer. They found a reduced risk of recurrence for current regular (≥ 3 days per week) use of ibuprofen (RR = 0.56; 95% CI, 0.32 to 0.98) but not aspirin (RR = 1.09; 95% CI, 0.74 to 1.61); short follow-up (5 years) may have precluded detecting an association. Blair et al34 reported a borderline reduced risk of breast cancer death (RR = 0.64; 95% CI, 0.39 to 1.05) for any use of NSAIDs after diagnosis among 591 postmenopausal women with breast cancer in the Iowa Women's Health Study. In that study, aspirin and nonaspirin NSAID use was combined, but use of aspirin only (43%) was considerably more common than use of nonaspirin NSAIDs only (10%) or use of both (27%)."

Learned something new about my Fitbit flex today.  I wear it on my dominant right wrist because it didn't fit very well and was uncomfortable on my left wrist along with my watch.  As I was standing pretty stationary at my kitchen island making several batches of quick breads (Easter gifts for family and friends) the fitbit buzzed/vibrated to tell me I had achieved 10,000 steps.  I realized it was probably registering all the stirring I had been doing with my right arm as steps instead!

Badger - great time on the 5K!  Ruth - love the new picture.  Odie - you  had a beautiful day for race day. S&S - love that cooking counted as "steps".

Signed up to run a 10K in two weeks, so figured I'd better do a trial run today as I haven't run more than 5 miles in a while.  The heat really hit today - it was 75 degrees and sunny by 10am - I have not trained in weather that warm for a long time, so ended up having to walk most of the last couple of miles as the heat just wore me out.  I didn't feel too bad about it - there were lots of young, fit "real" runners I saw taking walk breaks as well, so I think the heat caught everyone by surprise.

Sweet email the Fitbit people and ask them if that is the case, maybe there's a hiccup or maybe you could just count swinging your arms around as stepsNerdy Badger is that you striding out in your new pic  Red is there a Y in your area as they have lots of beginner programs. Ann hope you are enjoying your hooping day in LA. LB my friend from The UK is here and he's run the London 5 times, of course his knees have given out and he comes here to escape the harsh winter and golfs 5 days a week, and count me as a crier as well.

This morning did Body Pump class walked the swap meet as my friend needed to buy gifts for all his kids and grand kids and so I'm at 12941 steps right now.

Cheryl, new pic isn't me or anyone I know, it's just some random little girl from a free photo website I use a lot  She's smiling but so determined, a great alter-ego.  I could do with a little less pink but what the hey!  ♥

Like the picture Ruth.  Like the C25K tip that it's not just for running, thanks.  Good luck tomorrow nihali.

My exercise today has been up/down stairs many, many times to bathroom since neither one is on the floor I spend most of my time.  However, let me give this tidbit of advice (and it's TMI) - don't schedule colonoscopy during a season when you have high allergies (me, now).   On the day, and for the week before, you are enjoying the colon cocktail you are not allowed supplements, nsaids, etc. so could not take my allergy meds.  Anyone getting my drift?  Okay, no allergy meds + bathrooms on different floor + sneezing = accidents.   A sneeze does not wait for you to get to the throne?

    Night my sculpted friends.

Yikes, and on the news they said the allergy season is going to be really bad this year (actually they used the term 'allergy vortex'Shocked) because it was so cold so long that all the plants will be blooming all at once!

Cold and really windy here. I walked 30 minutes on the treadmill and did an hour of spot toning with Denise Austin. I complained the whole time, but she didn't even seem to care!!!!

lilac...when I first got home from the hospital I got on the scale and was down almost 8 lbs.  My pathology report stated each breast weighed about 4.5 lbs (Size J's).  On the first official weigh in on Wed. I was only down ~2 lbs, so who knows?  maybe swelling?

Today, walked 1 1/2 miles and did some shoulder stretches.  Last drain comes out tomorrow!

Sweet, that's funny about the stirring.  It's kind of fair though-- stirring is exercise.  NatsFan, congrats on finishing the race.  Sorry it was so hot.  Had been wonderfully cool here for 2 days but supposed to heat up this week.  Patoo, that's really awful.  You make a funny story of it though.

Made the round-trip to LA and survived the hooping workshop, barely.  It was 3 hours almost non-stop core hooping (waist, hips, chest) and part of that blindfolded.  My frozen shoulder got in the way a bit.  I did get a couple moves for the first time, so it was worth it.  Plus I really enjoy seeing the awesome hoopers in person. Celebrated with In-N-Out dinner complete with milkshake, yum!

cdelv66, hopefully a greater weight loss will show up soon.  In the meantime, I think you are doing great regarding recovery and exercise - well done! Badger, I like that pink, happy little girl and Ruth your smiling new photo is great!  Good to know I'm not alone with easily crying.

I'm home with son who is off school for another week of term break and exercise for me will start later today.  In the mantime, there was a article In the Sunday Times magazine about online workouts.  I would link to the article, yet it's firewalled (fee paying members only) so I've added a few links because many of you workout from home in all sorts of ways and perhaps these could be added to your fitness arsenal:
