The PS appt. went well, had the drain pulled - always a weird experience but not painful, just a bit of burning.  I got a new prescription for PT as my LE arm has flared with each of these surgeries.  I can't get a prescription for a mastectomy bra and prosthetic for a few more weeks though - I will have to become a master of disguise, lol!  I have a caved in side on the left and a 34DD on the right - eeeks!

DH and I went into Kendall Square in Cambridge this afternoon to see Katie Couric's "Fed Up" documentary. I thought it was really good....alarming info about the direction of our young population's health with all the sugar marketing and resulting obesity epidemic.  After, we went for an early dinner at a restaurant in that high tech area. Had a beet salad with baby greens ( and it was compromised by the deletion of the blue cheese on top) and then a lamb shank served with potato gnocchi, sauteed kale, grape tomatoes, and kalamata olives. It was great! DH had five lacquered duck breast over drunken noodles with peas and other spring vegetable greens. He loved it.

Carole, yes, Laurie seems fine and busy from her Facebook posts. Going through Spring sports season with her kids. I recall that to be a crazy busy time with little time for meal prep! :/

Nance, hoorah! The Orville popcorn worked like a charm!

Special - so sorry about the LE flare.  Hope you have a PT that you like.  I'm assuming you have to wait for the prothesis to give your chest more time to heal.  Sounds like you'll be putting socks in your bra for awhile.  Shades of junior high.

minus - yes, socks in the bra!!!  And, yes, needs more time to heal.  I have been to a LE certified PT after my original LE diagnosis, then again after exchange surgery.  I live 10 miles down the road from the only NCI designated center in FL, and they have a very good PT dept. and all of their peeps are LE certified.  I have more pain than visible swelling, but because of the three surgeries in short succession I need some help with MLD massage in the short term.

Dinner - raw cauliflower, broccoli, radishes & carrots with Ranch dip.  Dessert - fresh raspberries smothered by heavy cream & yes I used a little sugar.  I had a hard time stopping w/half the raspberries.  YUM.

Hugs from here, too, Special. You are a trooper. Hope that LE pain resolves soon!

Last week, I wrote about learning of that sudden rare medical condition my RI friend contracted. Well, I knew she'd be an amazing fighter to regain her motor skills, and sure enough, she is progressing with amazing strength, and the docs are marveling at how well she is recovering, given the typically less positive prognosis of transverse myelitis. I am so relieved for her.

Having lunch with the colleague who covered my caseload last year. We're meeting at a 50's style diner, so I'm sure I'll check out their BLTs.

    Hugs to all.....:)

Picked up the granite yesterday. I'm quite pleased with it, but boy is that stuff heavy! Today is more kitchen work, so no gym. I'm really hoping to get back to our routine next week. I think I said that about this week :-(       Good thing the lawn mower broke (not) so DH can spend time on the kitchen project. SIGH! It's always something . . . . .

Because I have kitchen parts everywhere, tonight's dinner is  a chili rerun with added mac. My romaine lettuce has headed so we'll have a salad with it. I promised my self that I will really cook something Sunday (if I can find stuff.) Tomorrow we'll go visit my dad, so dinner will, once again, be something quick and easy, as it will put us home late.

    Hope everyone enjoys the weekend!

Lacey, great news about your friend!

    lacey, happy about your friend.

Nance I can't imagine a kitchen do over. It took all I had just to get my kitchen ready for the kids to paint it. My compliments. Not to mention you have plants big enough to head? We haven't even planted anything yet. I just got a fusia hanging plant. I took off the plastic cover the dang pot is split all the way down. I'll have to repot it in one I have but it doesn't hang. Yuck..didn't want to do that! Just glad it didn't snow here last night. I hear Chicago had some snow yesterday.

Minus, I like raspberries but don't really like the seeds.

The dandelion s just popped up here. I love when they all pop up at once. Maybe next year I'll be able to walk to pick enough to make wine. My Dad always made some.

My daughter's wedding is weekend after this one. I have a lot to do. I designed her necklace, pierced the focal, but have to put it together. Then I have to try to finish his tie pin. Then if I have time I'll do one for me. LOL.  I would have done it earlier but she wasn't sure which dress to wear. Since the other hadn't arrived, well ,I made it to fit the one she had to have taken in 4 inches. (She lost so much weight) . Oh well. I'll get done what I can. I have another necklace to wear that was for my DS1 wedding so I can wear that.

Sorry. I guess I got carried away.

Much love to all, especially those who haven't checked in for a while!

Monica, well the thing is, this really isn't a total kitchen makeover. But somehow, moving the refrigerator and adding one small base cabinet and top has created a big mess with moving things from one storage space to another and trying to make things fit where they never were before. I don't think I could deal with a complete remodel. I would have to move out.  Thankfully, it should all be finished next week when my DBIL comes to install the lighting and help with the backsplash. I will have to feed him well while he is here.

I admire you doing the jewelry for your DD's wedding. I did the flowers for my niece's wedding several years ago, hoo boy! Talk about pressure! Never again!

The lettuce is in a large container on my deck. Keeps the rabbits out and the plants warmer. It's enjoying this cold wet weather we're having. Not me!

Nance! LOL.  That is still quite a project.

I am taking it easy for this wedding. I did flowers for 3 of them. If you ever do flowers again. Do not, I repeat, do NOT ever do a ball for the bride. It's beautiful but a 4 inch ball takes at least 50 flowers. And the thing weighed about 10 lbs! LOL. Luckily I made a small bouquet for the roaming wedding pics.  Then let's not talk about the headpiece I made for my brothers wife....

of course she wanted lillies. Every one had to be plucked to get rid of the stamen or the yellow pollen would have stained her dress. LOL

    Hi!

Sorry I have been MIA.  It has been a combination of a lot of things.  Both boys are playing baseball and the schedule is nuts!  I have taken on the painting projects in the house and am making great progress but have been spending a lot of time doing it.  Tomorrow I finally will put together the front living room (my room) and get rid of the mess of all the furniture in the middle of the room and do a little shopping for accessories.  (new throw pillows etc)  Also my boys have started paying a game on the computer and I can't ever seem to get on mine!  The plan tomorrow is to get the old computer up and running so I can have my lap top back.

Needless to say dinners have been on the fly most nights.  Last night and tonight we have actually had no baseball for two nights in a row.  Last night was fried chicken and tonight is spaghetti and meatballs.  My fathers asparagus beds have finally matured and we have been eating a TON of asparagus.  Good thing I LOVE it!

We might being heading to the lake tomorrow and helping our friends open their cottage despite the rain.  After all we love using it all summer so we should help with the work!  And we will have fun anyway I am sure.

Dh seems to be handling his mothers passing pretty well.  I think it helps that she lived out of state and he did not see her every day.  Still it is hard.  My youngest has been talking about her a lot.

Next week is the last week of pre k for ds1.  We are headed camping for Memorial weekend so we have been working on the camper as well as the yard and the house.  Too much to do!

I hope you are all well and I will go back and try to read when I can and promise to pop in more once I get this room organized and beautiful tomorrow!

    Wow, Moon, Impressive!

I was getting PTSD just being reminded of our kitchen redo about ten years ago. Oy! Fortunately it was during late spring and summer so we could cook on the grill on the front porch and use an upstairs bathroom for the few necessary dishes we used. I relied heavily on paper plates (sorry, environment!) and a fair bit of take out! Of course in the end it was great to have it, but I regret not figuring out a way to have an island....and a baking center would have been great! ;) You will have such fun Nance!

Also, Nance, I envy you the lettuce head...have not put a thing in my planters yet and am glad after seeing our resident hedgehog or groundhog, or just damn HOG (or a relative...this guy seems lighter and has a long scar on his/her back....I'm rooting for the feral cat who frequents our yard) eating a ton of vegetation on our yard borders. Sadly, that includes my day lilies AND my beautiful orange poppies that showed up suddenly fifteen years ago.....Mother Nature giveth and she obviously taketh away. Love those poppies! Any ideas for hedgehog deterrent are welcome.

DH has just started what should be a mini project of fixing faucet leaks in my bathroom....well, already we have a problem...I thought he knew I needed the tub faucet worked on. Nope! Busy taking the sink faucets off. In fairness, they could also use a washer upgrade....but I really need the leaky tub faucet fixed. Always get a bit nervous when he tries out his plumbing skills....once in our first house he did a powder room fix and my entire pottery library and studio in the basement was drowned by later that afternoon. Ugh! Keeping my fingers crossed tightly! :)

Nance, what kind of hummers do you have in St. Louis? We only get the ruby throated here.

Oops, ground hog or woodchuck is the critter(s) we are dealing with who live under our shed. After some internet reading, apparently hedgehogs are valued garden inhabitors in UK. Who knew...

Lacey, I was too dumb to know you'd misnamed your varmint!  We don't have hedgehogs or woodchucks.  At least not to my knowledge.  We do have rabbits and used to have deer before the developers encroached on their woods.

Moon, you are very talented!  Thanks for posting the pictures.  Be sure and post pics of the new necklace.

Nancy, can't wait to see the baking center.  I can't think of a person who could make better use of a baking center.

Special, after you heal and deal with the LE, will you be going back for a replacement implant?

Laurie, it's great to have you check in and up date us on your busy life.  It sounds like everyone in the family is happy and that's great.

We're having pan-seared catfish fillets for dinner with steamed yellow squash and a salad.

carole - yes, I will have to go back through an expander first though - I can have that placed in 60-90 days, expand (most likely more rapidly than the first time) and then the implant replaced.  This is like deja vu of the immediate aftermath of BMX when I lost the same side expander.  After chemo it was replaced with no incident and from then on everything went smoothly.  The area of bad skin is the same troublemaker this time.

DH is out of town in South Carolina celebrating his dad's b-day (his 89th!) so I have nobody to cook for.  I am home dog-sitting.  I took my TN friend to start her Taxol chemo this morning. I am not even sure I will have any dinner - not super hungry.

Nance, I am speechless! So was DH!

We see at most four or five hummers in NH and hardly ANY here. So the little ones to us are like precious rare creatures. Yours look larger, too. Your photos are almost Hitchcock-like! How do you keep up with making that much nectar....a nectar-making station in your kitchen?! ;)

My sister just returned a call and we discussed her bats, which recently returned to the barn in which she lives. She is still trying to get her bat house up so they will leave the attic....I hope it works, especially before I visit! But she sure loves being in VT, about which I am very happy.

Special, I do hope you get your appetite back on your usual schedule!

Tonight DH grilled himself a hamburger (it was burning a metaphorical hole in our freezer for him), and I finished the two leftover quarters of my  turkey club sandwich from my lunch out. Wow, it was a big and tasty sandwich! We had cuke salad and DH had some kale soup.

Laurie, your energy so impresses me!

Lacey, that picture was taken in the afternoon, at dusk, the number doubles as they all try to get in one last meal before bed. It sounds like a beehive.  We have a couple of   window feeders so we get to see them up close. Not that they're shy, you can stand with your face in the feeders and they don't care. I've already gone through 15 pounds of sugar and they've only been here a month. I make the solution in a 2 gallon stockpot every couple of days and refrigerate it in gallon pitchers.

If we don't take dadtout for Chinese food for lunch, we'll probably have done kind of stir fry for dinner.
