Been slacking off the excercise except for walking down to Dunkin' Donuts occasionally for an iced coffee and a muffin. Will start back up when the PS says its okay to do so after surgery.

Subbed in 6th grade social studies today. I love anything to do with history, so it was very fun; plus the room was on the 3rd floor so I got some exercise running up & down the stairs a couple times during the day. I am soon off to a basketball game but will do half an hour of something when I get home.

Wow Ruth, 8 hours a week is great! No wonder you're our cheerleader in-chief.

If I count walking, yoga, zumba and sex, I get maybe 6.5 hours of exercise a week.
Walked with a co-worker at break today. May hit the indoor track after supper.
Keep up the good work, everyone! ♥ to all

I was bad this week, couldn't get motivated to get out of bed in the morning to exercise before work except for one day. Will step it up this weekend (although it looks like I will have to go in to work tomorrow afternoon for at least part of the evening shift, having staffing issues). Pain, fatigue and apathy are setting in and I need to put the brakes on all three!

Yikes, just finished off a slice of carrot cake (my soft spot) so better get downstairs and hit the treadmill. At least the last couple of days on the treadmill I have started a couple minutes running.
Weather tomorrow supposed to be yucky but hope it clears enough in the afternoon to get to the gym.

Note to self: Upon reading Badger's update, idea has come to mind: must replace vacuuming with sex. lol

Got most of my steps in today but just can't finish... Still I walked over 2 miles so,that's better than nothing. This pain in my back is getting really old. Think I'll call ps and ask him to bump up my exchange. It's worth a shot.

I'm blushing, Badger! And I'm jealous!

I opened up a can of worms by painting the dining room. Originally I was going to wait until spring to continue other rooms but I can't wait! Tonight we have been getting the living room ready to start painting tomorrow. Spring cleaning in January!

I could not bring myself to exercise when I got home from basketball last night (I put in a yoga DVD, did about 10 minutes, turned it off and went to bed.....I guess I was worn out from talking about the rise and the fall of the Persian Empire all day long
). This morning I did Cheryl's 60 minute Combat DVD with the scary name of Extreme Cardio Fighter. I follow the modified gal, so it was only semi-extreme
. Now I'm off to do a ton of errands. Have a great Saturday!0 -
I'm five days post-op mastectomy and I just did 45 minutes easier pace on my Spinning bike. I feel really, really good, but have to wait until Monday and my 1st post-op appointment to get these drains out and hopefully get clearance for more aggressive exercise since the indoor bike and walking is all I've done so far.

You all are hilarious and I love your photo Jazzygirl (and your screen name! I was feeling photo-ish today too, and decided to take a photo of my after workout lunch. LOL I did 8 miles in the gym, and I didn't feel like making a complicated smoothie when I returned.
So while I was waiting for my turmeric tea to steep, I realized everything I was about to consume had nice colors! I did have a scoop of protein powder mixed in water, but that didn't make the cut.
On plate: Half a pear, and a Wasa whole wheat crisp bread, with a thin layer of organic almond butter.
All you wonderful friends, kept the voices and the momentum going!

hi all and welcome Evilmidget. Congrats on getting through surgery. I know it's hard but please take it easy until cleared to exercise. Here's a link to an excellent thread here about safe exercise following lymph node removal ~

Spent a few hours with mom, shopping and lunch, it was very nice. We split a Reuben and it was great. Supper will be much healthier. Been sprouting alfalfa seeds and they are so good, can't get much fresher than currently growing. I plan to toast a slice of sunflower-oatmeal bread, 'butter' it with mashed ripe avocado, lay on a slice of roast turkey and a light grind of fresh black pepper, and finish with a nice thick layer of fresh sprouts for flavor and crunch.
It warmed up enough this afternoon to walk outdoors so did my 2.5 mile route. Have a good night! ♥

Didn't need the voices to get out and spend an hour with my snow shovel so that was a good upper body workout since the snow was wet and heavy. Only about 4 inches though on a 2-car driveway and some steps so not too hard.
Then came in and did vacuum and clean house for another 2 hours so that's my exercise for today. Should get to gym tomorrow after church.
Gonna wolf down a tilapia filet and some stir-fry veggies with popcorn for dessert then relax and go off to bed.

Welcome, evilmidget (there has got to be an interesting story behind that screen name!).

Wonderland I'm jealous of your weather! Even though snow is beautiful I'm looking forward to going to Florida with kids in Feb.
Jenjen- I just devoured a few slices of pizza after being so good all day. And I was supposed to be giving up flour

Exercise wise- On the good side, I've done yoga everyday this week. I found a great website that has a ton of yoga videos.
http://www.doyogawithme.com/yoga_classes
On this website, there are tons of videos of varying lengths, styles, and levels- I find the teachers are really good for the most part. While I like going to my class, this I can do at home on days when I can't make a class. I've never been good about yoga every day but now I do it.
I also went for a walk today. But I have to make sure I'm introduce more cardio into my routine.
Does anyone have any good home workout videos for those days I don't make it to the gym to do the elliptical? I'm not a boot camp type but just would like to find something that perhaps works on toning and on some cardio.

Denise Austin has some really nice workouts.

Ruth,
Thanks, I'll check them out. Looks like there are a lot on youtube.

I didn't do much the prior two days except a 12 minute dog walk (my leash broke so that was shortened). Today I was inspired by Heidi's brown fat/cold info and I went for a 40 minute walk outside and a little mall shopping too. I'm up to 58 active minutes, which you know what that means, I have to walk around till I get to 60!
I have swimsuit pictures on my phone and I'm hoping that inspires me to keep up the exercising and the good eating.

Hi Evilmidget!
Badger: Your dinner sounds delicious! My dinner tonight is Girl Scout cookies (been busy painting all day)
Hi All. I worked out my arms by painting our livingroom today - the ceiling, the walls, and the trim. Dh helped with the walls. Only a little more trimming and then we are done! On to the entry wall and the hallway, but first I'm going to take a couple of days off.

Busy day....first of all, my hair was depressing to look at, so up at 6:30 for a color job. Once done, I got out and did a 5k run. Picked up my new ankle boots in the leasing office (they fit, YAY) and off to Seattle for a 12:15 haircut. Hair looks fab now. I stopped by UPS to post a package, and also to the gourmet shop where I had a really great time buying goodies with a gift certificate. As I am cheap, I have quite a bit left. There are a lot of things I can't see buying as cheaper elsewhere, but I did get 2 cans of French chestnut puree, one of my fave desserts and some oregano from Callabria.
Then a stop by the wine bar for an update on my friend Sarah, and think I have snagged a free stay in Cabo once she and her husband get set up there. They had found a few cases of something amazing (and cheap) at the back of a warehouse, so made sure I got in on the deal. Wonderful imbibing awaits. Thinking my birthday dinner of chicken paprika with the combination zin/syrah.
Bussed it back to Redmond and the office to print out something our CEO suddenly needed for her trip. Finally back home to polish those new fab boots (the $500 ones I got for $25 on eBay). What I didn't get to today is that my printer croaked early AM.
Now to cook the fish I snagged between gourmet shop and wine bar. Should be wonderful. - Claire

Welcome evilmidget. Love the name.
Momwriter, check your cable tv as there are usually free fitness videos on demand.
Congrats on your painting progress Wonderland.
Made my daily step goal yesterday. Today, I spent the day making homemade vegetable soup and cleaning house. I was able to squeeze in an hour on the treadmill at a 7 incline plus 15 minutes of Yoga and stretching.
Will try a kickboxing video tomorrow and some circuit training exercises while washing the bedding and awaiting our next snowstorm. Looks like I will be working from home Monday in my pj' s. What a shame. LOL.
Good night all.

Jazzy I love your photo - instantly looked for the like button lol!
I got 3.5 miles in today woohoo. Yesterday I felt crummy so hopefully today I make up for it.
Inspired - do you have a good recipe for the turmeric tea

I've been offline since Monday, but have hit the gym every day. I got up early W, Th & Fri and went before work. I really like morning exercise. On Thursday, my work had a KOGA class (kickboxing meets yoga) after school as part of our Biggest Loser challenge. I decided to try it and it was not as bad as I expected. I am definitely stronger than I was 6 months ago.
All my exercise and clean eating is paying off. I am currently down 11 pounds from Jan. 5th and as of this weigh in, I am the "Biggest Loser". Down 5.3% of my body weight.

yay went for a 4mile walk, snuck in a bit of running, shoulder stretching midway. Warm for January in the PN

Good morning all and welcome Now14.
Congrats Ginger, those are great results!
Did 20 mins AM yoga while steel-cut oats cooked. Added a scoop of frozen tiny wild blueberries = delicious healthy breakfast. Will do something else yet today but need to start chili slow-cooking for supper.
Wonderland, I love GS cookies but from now on will just give a donation instead of purchasing.
Considering that one Thin Mint has nearly one tsp of sugar, and the AHA guidelines for added sugar say under 6 tsp (24 grams) per day, I choose to spend my allowance otherwise. :-)
"The American Heart Association recommends that no more than half of your daily discretionary calorie allowance come from added sugars. For most American women, this is no more than 100 calories per day (about 6 teaspoons). For men, it’s no more than 150 calories per day (about 9 teaspoons)."

DD and I walked our dog for about a mile and a half this morning. It's sunny and warm in So Cal today.

Alexa: Re: Turmeric I'll post the link for you and everyone else. At first I sprinkled organic turmeric in boiling water, but it settle, so now I order it, and it does not settle, and I love it. I alternate it with my organic green tea.
I now use this as my first cup of tea after I workout, to immediately reduce any inflammation. Although I read an article once that inflammation from exercise is not the same one to be considered about as inflammation from foods (in regards to cancer risk), but I'm still thinking it must have some soothing benefits. In fact, I recover quicker after my workouts now and with less soreness the day after, almost none now, and that's with 8-12 miles of exercise.
I just ordered 4 boxes and there was a small shipping charge: $4.99
