Happy 4th everyone. I mowed again today 40 minutes and then a bike ride 1 hr 20 minutes. This is weird but I also fell on my bike today. Ginger we are just determined to be laid up! Thought I may have whacked my knee pretty hard but I continued to ride for another hour so must not be too bad. It was pretty skinned up. Carb loaded at dinner so I'll take Cheryl's advice and try not to feel guilty. I had to have a piece of red white and blue cake right? Resting with my feet up until fireworks if I don't fall asleep

I did a "cycle-by" of Redmond WA microbreweries, with my friend Amanda, stopping at only one. For the record, we passed 5 in about 8 miles of cycling. I had a cask-conditioned IPA which was beyond delish. Then on to Lake Sammamish for a swim. Really hot here, so much appreciated. Finally, a stop for gelato. Left Amanda at the bus stop and drove home. (Buses have bike racks here.)

A bit over 26 miles. I think I am ready for a nap now. So glad I did the big ride yesterday. Now, just fun taper rides. - Claire

trying to catch u on over three weeks of posts! A good 15 trips up and down the stairs today hauling summer deck furniture back outside. Also DH and I helped some friends put up a new gazebo they bought, then they came to our house to help put up our new gazebo, then back to their house for drinks, snacks and a grilled steak dinner under their gazebo. A good day with friends.

Had a blood draw Thursday for BRCA genetic testing. I will be having a hysterectomy later this summer regardless of BRCA results but hoping for negative for my daughter's sake.

Hi, did an hour water jogging in friend's pool. Then reminisced about the past as her mom passed Friday and so we just celebrated her life. She had 3 girls and 10 boys. We all grew up together so that was a lot of remembering - over 60 years we've been friends.

My sister also turned 70 today but we cannot see fireworks from here as this estate has a long, winding driveway to get to the house and sits back on at least 25 mostly wooded acres.  Her husband does so much of the outside work himself that he has his own backhoe!

Not leaving until Monday so will have chance to swim again tomorrow.

Patoo, Happy Birthday to your sister, and a hug to your friend. Ruth, say more about picnic! And get some rest tomorrow. Badger, what's a Firecraker 5k? Cheryl: just reading about your routine made me tired, lol. You've got grit girl.

Nisa, Firecracker 5K is a walk/run held on the 4th of July. Like a Jingle Bell 5K held in December. :-)

Beautiful morning and will get out and walk in a bit but having some BCO time while DH is still asleep.

Didn't care for Spy. Plot idea was good - girl behind the scenes goes into the field - but they went campy instead of smart. Also way too many f-bombs. I wish it had been made in Mel Brooks-style of sly humor instead of in-your-face crude.  Oh well...

    Happy Sunday! ♥ to all

Did hill work in this heat, but only about 20 miles. This makes it 130 miles for the past week, Monday-Sunday. I am fit and ready for the Big Ride. I think one short weekday ride just to keep things supple.

It's supposed to cool off a bit towards the end of the week. I may go swimming later, but drive to the spot. But need to get some work in...nothing major, but a few odds and ends. Plus mend the snazzy trousers that somehow developed a hole DevilDevil - Claire

On a good note, I just won the large oval cast iron Le Creuset baker on eBay, so have something large enough to do grilled trout. YUM!!!!

(shyly) Half an hour on the elliptical trainer, and a round of Nautilus...but then this speaks more to recovering from spine fusion than anything the cancer treatment's thrown at me for now. (on the mild end of the spectrum, in any case). I hope to manage through any side effects this time.

Cycled 15 miles (bringing back my brand new bike from the shop). My 2 next door neighbours are fighting to help me fix a rack and show me how to change a tube :) And I managed to avoid the rain (2 showers in the afternoon, one when I was on the bus to the shop, and the other just as I had got home). Life feels good for once.

I walked about a half hour with my husband late this afternoon. I'm banged up but I wanted to get out of the house and it really doesn't hurt much more to walk than sit.

Paton that is a long friendship. what a precious gift. Queenmomcat welcome. I hope your surgery was successful.

The problem with all this exercise is my appetite! I'm eating like a pig and not healthy food either. I've got to get back on the wagon next week

Have to share something very funny. Love my new Samsung Galaxy 6, and finally the apps work as promised! With one exception. I have one called S Health which measures either walking or running, but not cycling (and I am smart enough not to take it swimming with me). With the result that it cheers me on during basic couch potato days, and most of the time tells me that I'm not getting nearly enough exercise.

It's basically useless for checking any REAL exercise. I hope it's not going into some database somewhere, as I will be entered as a couch potato statistic!!!

Anyway, just restocked my bag for the Big Ride next Saturday. Just need to add sunscreen. Really, really excited now. - Claire

    Welcome to the new ladies!

I am trying to pack for the hot, steamy East Coast & watch soccer at the same time.....not working out very good but I think I can watch TV & type at the same time.

Nisa asked about our annual 4th of July picnic, so now you get a story! We have a very nice shady yard, perfect for a picnic....plus our backyard neighbor is always gone on the 4th & we have a standing invitation to use her yard for lawn games.....so for many years (like maybe 12-15?) we have had a picnic (I can't claim patoo's 60 year friendship, but I have been friends with one gal who comes every year for 40 years, others of the mainstay group for 20 to 30 years). Anyway, it is a very comfortable group of people; and anyone can bring other people they know who are going to be alone for the holiday (we've had neighbors, family members (even one lady's ex-husband), grandparents, kids, friends of kids, boyfriends & girlfriends of kids etc. etc.). It is very fun & not a lot of work because it is potluck (I get all my steps because my house is a split level, so getting ready involves a lot of running up and down, up and down, up and down......and so does the putting away again).

I remember a 4th of July many, many years ago when I first started working; all my friends were doing something with their families, and I don't know where my parents were, but someplace so that I couldn't go home. And I was sitting all alone on the balcony of my apartment watching the fireworks and feeling quite sorry for myself; so I decided to do my own thing to make the 4th of July special and fun, and now it is my favorite holiday!

The USA just won ThumbsUp....so back to the piles of clothes for me. I walked, did 30 minutes of abs, and took a nap today.

Welcome to all the new fitness friends!

Ginger and Twohobbies, hope you mend quickly post bike spills. Cheryl, your day is exhausting to read, ha ha. Claire, one week to the big ride...Can feel your excitement. Ruth, great story how your holiday picnic tradition started. Love that you are so considerate of those without a place to go as we often get caught up with our own holidays and forget those less fortunate. Patoo, what a special friendship to last so long. Guess you're a keeper! Badger, way to go on the 5k. Sounds like fun.

My exercise over the last 3 days consisted of a variety of chores. Friday I did alot of walking while shopping with a friend but undid most of it when we went to lunch. Loopy. Saturday I again got plenty of steps while running errands and helped hubby install a new kitchen faucet. Today was laundry, swimming and lots of weeding. All this rain lately has the weeds going crazy. Luckily so is my garden. Got my first cucumber today. Looking forward to fresh veggies over the next couple months.

    Good night all.

    Your picnic sounds WONDERFUL Ruth!

Hi All. We returned from the beach today. We were at Emerald Isle, NC and if you watched the nightly news you heard about the deck that collapsed while a family of over 20 people were gathered for a family picture. The house was down the beach from us. Two people are critical - very frightening.

The wind blew hard making swimming difficult. That was just fine with us as we were leery about swimming anyway because of the shark attacks. Here is a picture of my SIL under her beach umbrella. Singing

Welcome to the new ladies. Wonderland it looks very windy at the beach and the water looks so choppy and glad you didn't become shark bait. Odie can you send us some of your rain. Ruth what a lovely 4th of July tradition and good luck with your packing. Patoo how fantastic to have such a lasting friendship and how wonderful that you were together at this time to share your memories. I spent last night holding a very terrified and shaking dog, they allowed fireworks back in the city and my gosh it was a madhouse, my neighbor and I watched the city fireworks from our backyard and the streets around us gave the city a run for their money and to top it all off at 2.30am the poor dog woke me up to let him go out and wouldn't you know it the idiots in the next street over let of a huge firecracker the poor dog almost had a heart attack and scampered back inside and today while I was out he has bitten himself raw, off to the vets we go tomorrow as the tranquilizer obviously didn't work.

This morning did U Jam dance class and this afternoon went to see the movie Max, it could have been a 'made for TV' movie but I enjoyed it.

Wonderland, I saw that collapsed balcony story on the news. How very sad. Yes, that looks windy enough to keep me out of the water (as I don't particularly want to be carried out to sea by a rip tide either)! A guy on the news said that one's chances of winning the lottery are still better than getting attacked by a shark.......so if the wind goes down, I will probably sneak briefly into the water.

Off to yoga & then MUST commense with the packing.

    Happy

Hi All! Been here in Atlanta and the weather has been iffy, meaning rain yet still very warm. I'm flying back to the UK tonight and enjoyed my time with friends. Lots of walking, eating and laughing. Can't believe it, got my film marked quickly and received a email Friday that I passed my Body Balance/Flow and full certified to teach - YAY! Thank you (((ALL))) for you support and encouragement Amazing that after surgery in 2012 it took 9 months to do a up dog in body balance and now I get teach it! Anyway, long day/night before me as I have a red eye flight out of Orlando to Heathrow. See you on the flip side!

Pilates (trying new gym closer to work). OK, especially one of the ladies with whom I chatted in French :) However the instructor was also chatty and detained me for 20 minutes after the class so I missed 2 trains and will now be hme at 9pm, 1 hour later than planned. I still need to go to the supermarket (which closes at 10pm), coook a meal (I had planned a bolognaise, but will need to chop the onions), and reconcile my bank accounts. Got up at 5am today and getting up same hour tomorrow as attempting to cycle to work. Not happy. Why do people alwasys think that if you are single you have plenty of spare tijme?

Hi to the ladies I met in San Diego .It was so much fun to have you here. I'm lucky to walk a couple of miles a day just doing my routine stuff. I still have my brace on my broken arm and won't see the orthopedic trauma surgeon until the 20th. I'm using my bone stimulator at least 3 hours a day. I'm hoping to get back into shape after I get the go ahead. I was helping my granddaughter with her swimming from the side of my pool yesterday and hope that I can use it myself this summer while it is still warm . My butterfly arrived.

Had a wonderful weekend with our long time friends. Will see them again this weekend when we go for the funeral. Will have to drive 5 hours from the mountains which are on the west end of NC and our friends are on the east and then will drive back to the mountains the next day.

Ruth nice of you to have the open-to-all picnic. I'll have to remember that, just in case! I know you heard there was another shark bite today in NC. I think someone is trying to scare me (because you all know it's all about me, right?) Not only will we be going to NC beach next month but will be renting a house on the beach, similar to the one with the deck collapse. Yes, we will be checking the deck (it's a multilevel, wraparound deck) and not have too many on it at once.

Have not been getting as much exercise as I would like recently but that will change in time.

    Night sculpted friends.
