    "Cinderella, dressed in yella'

Went upstairs to kiss her fella

Made a mistake, kissed a snake,

How many doctors did it take (begin counting...)"

That was one we jumped rope to.

  • That one sounds so familiar!

What about songs. We took bus trips when I was in JrHi and Hi school. Whether it was for a rival foot ball game, or to go skiing at Tahoe or to Santa Cruz to the beach or even just to San Francisco to see a Shakespeare play w/the English classes. I got really tired of 99 Bottle of Beer on the Wall. But how many verses can you remember of Found A Peanut?

And wasn't there one about a frog?

  • How about.....

The bear went over the mountain?

Or, on top of spaghetti all covered with cheese?

We used to sing those on our car trips with my parents.

Oh good ones Slow. I remember them both.

Has more verses than I remembered:

    On top of spaghetti,
    All covered with cheese,
    I lost my poor meatball,
    When somebody sneezed.

    It rolled off the table,
    And on to the floor,
    And then my poor meatball,
    Rolled out of the door.

    It rolled in the garden,
    And under a bush,
    And then my poor meatball,
    Was nothing but mush.

    The mush was as tasty
    As tasty could be,
    And then the next summer,
    It grew into a tree.

    The tree was all covered,
    All covered with moss,
    And on it grew meatballs,
    And tomato sauce.

    So if you eat spaghetti,
    All covered with cheese,
    Hold on to your meatball,
    Whenever you sneeze.

I did remember all of Found a Peanut!

    Found a peanut
    Found a peanut
    Found a peanut just now
Just now I found a peanut
    Found a peanut just now.

    Cracked it open
    Cracked it open
    Cracked it open just now.
Just now I cracked it open
    Cracked it open just now.

    It was rotten
    It was rotten
    It was rotten just now.
    Just now it was rotten
    It was rotten just now.

    Ate it anyway
    Ate it anyway
    Ate it anyway just now
Just now I ate it anyway
    Ate it anyway just now.

    Got a tummy ache
    Got a tummy ache
Got a tummy ache just now
Just now I got a tummy ache
Got a tummy ache just now.

    Went to the doctor
    Went to the doctor
Went to the doctor just now
Just now I went to the doctor
Went to the doctor just now.

    Had an operation
    Had an operation
    Had an operation just now
Just now I had an operation
    Had an operation just now.

    Died anyway
    Died anyway
    Die anyway just now
    Just now I died anyway
    Died anyway just now.

    Got reincarnated
    Got reincarnated
    Got reincarnated just now
    Just now I got reincarnated
    Got reincarnated just now.

    Found a peanut
    Found a peanut
    Found a peanut just now
Just now I found a peanut
    Found a peanut just now.

Native - good for you. I remembered all but the reincarnated. Wonder if we dropped that verse or I just don't remember?

Meant to say that as a military brat, every post was different, but these playground rhymes were a touchstone wherever I went. Linda

Actually, the version I remember from my schoolyard days was "came alive again" rather than reincarnated, but close enough, right?

  • 10 little angels all dressed in white

Trying to get to heaven on the end of a kite

The kite string broke and down they all fell

Instead of going to heaven they all went to

9 little angels all dressed in white.....and so on.

    I do remember that one!

  • I recently bought this for my nephews. They were so excited to receive the coin purses. I was happy to find them on the big online store that starts with an "A". I remember my Grandfather carried one of these.

I had one of those coin thingys as a kid, when my holdings were exclusively coinage. I remember businesses used to give them out with their logos on them. It was more for men so that they did not have loose coins in their pockets (wearing them out.) Yes, my Grandpa had one too.

Now you have reminded me of something else. This was a promo item that some savings banks gave away. My uncle gave me one and I still have it. I have seen it in a retro collection in a museum!

Just a Google Image. Mine looks better. ;-)

Loved those coin purses and I vividly remember the particular plasticy smell! Those bubbles were great and looking at the ingredients I know why I got high blowing the bubbles for my younger cousins. Good times! Linda

  • Booklady....so true!! I bought something similar when my nephews came to visit. I swear we all got high on the fumes. It took days to get the smell out of the house!!

Eli, I have no idea what that is??? Is it an airplane??? I turned my screen in all different directions, and I can't figure it out!!

    I vote that it's a spaceship

  • Eph, YES! I do see that now. And the round ball looks like a planet. Makes perfect sense now.

Wow, I just saw that coin purse in the key section of an Ace Hardware yesterday. Had to giggle. Also, I love superelasticbubbleplastic!! Bought it for my kids when they were younger every chance I got :-)

I never tried to do latch hook, but when younger I got a rug punch kit as a gift. Different than hooking, it used burlap canvas for the backing instead of the plastic mesh stuff. The tool was a big needle punch (you know, just like they used for our biopsies!) I made a sunflower rug that my mom had for many years.

  • Did you have one of these?

I have my 45's also. That includes an Elvis Hound Dog with the flip side Don't Be Cruel in it's original sleeve. Too bad I wrote on the sleeve.
