Wonderland, your DH is persistent. I would have stopped after the first sting.
Edj, sorry you are having to deal with yet another setback. It must be so frustrating.
Biked at least 3 hours having gotten a litte bit lost following a trail where river banks were overflowing in a number of places and trees had fallen, so kept having to take detours. Also walked with some friends along a lake outside the city. I just read that melting glaciers have added 1000 lakes to Switzerland's landscape. Pretty soon we'll be like the Finnish Lakeland,

I hosted the Wednesday Walking Women for coffee and muffins in my front yard after we walked today.

Ruth - if I could put a "heart" on your Walking Wednesday posts, I would (too much Facebook!). I would love to assemble a group to walk with and do a bit of socializing, but I have not figured out a workable way to do it, yet.
Your neighborhood reminds me of Northern Ohio and Michigan - maybe it's the architecture and the well-kept lawns. I have very fond memories of those places.

If you are ever in North Dakota at 8:00am on a Wednesday morning, come on over!

Ruth - I read this thread regularly and admire everyone's efforts. And I think we are all jealous of your walking group. But I had to laugh at your latest post: If you are ever in North Dakota at 8:00am on a Wednesday morning, come on over! What about next January? LOL

We'll still be walking and eating....but inside!

Pound this morning, Dance2fit tonight. The heat index today was 105! Poor Bruno, after his walk this morning he crawled into his kennel and laid there most of the rest of the day. He's perked up now and chewing on a bone, so will hopefully be back to his energetic self tomorrow.

Heidi: That's crazy (and scary)about 1000 lakes being made in Switzerland due to melting glaciers!
Ruth: I also would love to join your WWW.
Like most of you, it's hot, humid, and hazy here. I didn't even leave the house. Ds had a 2 day job near us so he spent the night. He gave me some little black stones his friend had picked up in Charleston so I decided to paint them for his friend. The turtle shell stone is unique bc it's tall, not flat. It had to be painted as a turtle. Ds's friend's name is Jonah, thus the whale. This is my mental exercise for the day.

You are so talented and creative, Wonderland!

I esp love the animal stones. Those are incredible.
My right foot (the one I broke last year) hurt today. I'm practicing paying attention to my body, so canceled my planned run and took a rest day. (this is hard for me to do)

Wonderland - gorgeous work!
I went to the gym yesterday to lift weights and walk on the treadmill. I walked this morning before work - wish I had more time in the morning because the temps are the best then. Today, I will take a steamy walk at lunch and then MAYBE swing by the gym again after work.

I am loving those animal stones, as well! And now I have that song about Jonah and the whale stuck in my head.

I am...trying to just keep putting one foot in front of the other. I'm just walking my dog...every morning, and now most nights. Perhaps it's a mercy that one of the podcasts I usually listen to in the morning on walks has been glitching, because it makes me put on music instead, and then I can dance around when my dog decides she just has to sniff in one place for a while. I'm pretty sure I'm burning more calories that way. I'm also pretty sure my neighbors think I'm nuts if/when they are up that early and look out the window.
Yesterday I got out on a 16 minute walk without the dog slowing me down, and with my kiddo biking alongside/around me in circles -- he just learned to ride a bike a week ago, so that is very exciting for both of us! I am looking forward to hopefully being cleared to ride with him after my reconstructive surgery in September!
After avoiding it for a few weeks because I was worried about what the results would be, I went and had blood drawn today so we can see if there is any change in my too-high cholesterol, blood sugar, etc., numbers. *fingers crossed*

edj, I am glad that you are listening to your body, but sad that it is being so uncooperative!
Saltmarsh, congratulations on your new bike rider. I remember how exciting it was when my DS first learned to ride his bike. So much fun!
GoKale, Bruno & I walked early, and not very long (he drank a liter of water when we were done). I am going to have to dance around the house with Marshall Fitness for the rest of my steps because it is too darn hot & humid to do anything else outside.
Here's me & my partner-in-crime; born to be wild!

Got home from my travels, and hubby and I promptly caught bad colds... :-( Got Covid tested just to be sure (we are fully vaccinated but it pays to be cautious)...not breakthrough Covid, just your basic summer cold. Apparently they are worse than usual right now as folks resistance is down from not being out and about as much over the past year...
So, while I did lots of walking while on my trip, the past few days I haven't done much of anything but eat chicken soup and sniffle a lot. Hope to get back to it tomorrow!
Take care, all,
Octogirl

Blah, summer colds are no fun!
We took an overnight get-away yesterday; we stayed at a Bed & Breakfast the had been the General's quarters in an old fort. So, it was like being in a museum except that you could touch everything, sit on it, use it etc. we also attended a performance of Grease put on in a park. Very fun! I was back in time to go to Barre Sculpt.

Ruth - I love that picture of you and Bruno! He's bigger than you are! Great dog family pic. Sounds like a great weekend getaway - the B and B sounds very interesting and fun.
Octogirl - I hope you and your hubby are feeling better soon. I think colds are going around.
Saltmarsh - so fun when the kids learn to ride bicycles. Enjoy!
Went to the gym yesterday with my husband to lift weights and walk on the treadmill. Saturday night we walked down to the neighborhood swimming pool . We love to go in the evening because it isn't crowded usually. While did some swimming, floating in the pool and looking at the darkening sky is quite peaceful.

Went for a hike this morning with our neighbor and her dog. The very naughty Bruno rolled around in something dead and chased a runner. Grrrr.....Zumba tonight.

Hi all, I've been walking but not posting. Last week was my first full week of new part-time job. I will work 20-25 hours per week and they are so glad to have me. I'm a re-hired retiree who knows my way around and will be a huge asset. Claire, I imagine it will be similar for you.
So hot during the day! My week is like this: Mon - Fri walk early & water the garden, have coffee & read the paper, work until 3-ish, then knock off & start prepping for supper. Weds afternoons are a mom visit. Had to change from Weds AM to Weds PM due to a weekly team meeting from 11 - 12. On Sat I do errands, shop, cook & clean. On Sun we go visit my MIL. Busy busy!!

Thank you Badger. There will be a lot more rehired retirees going forward. We are in a labor shortage which I predicted about 15 years ago, but we had to go through the global workforce first. This happened a few years ago and is getting more pronounced.
I think I have the best of all possible worlds where I can truly choose what is worth doing, and then excel at the things I do well. Play to my strengths, a luxury that few get to choose. Was in contact earlier today with a former colleague who is doing much what he did in his professional life in his consulting for the Red Cross, though not getting paid at this point. He gets to tend his garden, orchard, and vineyard while getting his brain well exercised. I think I have a similar road ahead, though will be paid for my efforts. This will fund my travel and adventures. (My friend was logging 100k miles per year so is happy to be home.)
I think I am also ready to meet someone, though I am fine if I this doesn't happen. Want someone closer than London or CT. Zoom calls with all three gents in my near future.
Busy week but thrilled to be headed out on Friday for a camping adventure in the San Juan Islands. Not my plan, but I do have the gear. Then hiding out whilst "moonlighting" for my long term client. Yikes!
I am just astonished at how this chapter of my life is shaping up. Very different from the Canasta get-togethers of my grandmother. Though I might be persuaded to do a round of Strip Poker. We shall see. - Claire

How interesting and exciting, Claire! I'm glad we live in an age where age can truly just be a number.
It is going to be broiling hot and topically humid here for the next couple days. I'll probably be doing the strip without the poker if I have to be outside very long! Dance2fit this morning, Barre Sculpt this evening.

Folks who are dealing with bad air pollution and smog: I'm so sorry. It's just started affecting us on the east coast, and now I get a sore throat whenever I walk the dog, and I know it's much worse where some of you live, so I will cross my fingers for all of you.
So, mostly I've been just walking the dog. But I did do a couple of home yoga sessions this week, and I am committed to doing my PT exercises today for the first time in *mumble* days.I've also requested another visit with my dietician to figure out why my cholesterol is so flipping high.

We managed to get in a nice dog hike before the clouds burned off.
Saltmarsh, how were your eating habits during treatment? I ask because mine were horrible so that next regular checkup post-cancer treatment, my cholesterol was horrible. When my doctor mentioned it I said, "Of course it's bad. I kind of had other things on my mind last year!!"

edj: Have you had your next wrist x-ray yet?
Badger: They are so lucky to have you!
Claire: Your upcoming weekend sounds fun.
saltmarsh: Yikes on your cholesterol. Good idea to meet with a dietitian.
Ruth: Sounds like your weather will be the same as mine. It's so draining.
Hi Everyone! I walked/ran yesterday and today in the morning before it got way too hot. On Sunday dd and I made bread and butter pickles from pickles she bought at the farmers market. Then I made several loaves of zucchini blueberry bread. My sil had some zucchini that "got away" and she gave them to me to make bread.
Edited to add: Love watching the Olympics. The skateboarding and surfing have been a fun addition.

This heat & humidity will be the death of me. Or else I'll turn into the most dehydrated raisin in the world.
I've been running, since I can't lift or bike or do anything bodyweight-related if it involves using my wrist. My pace is slow but that's OK, it's freaking hot outside even at 5:30 AM.
X-ray is on Friday, I don't think I could be wishing any harder for no breaks and a release of this cast. It's amazing how much I miss my non-dominant thumb

Today was the hottest, most humid, most miserable Wednesday of the summer. We had a small walking group because the smart ones stayed home! I'm going to a 30 minute Mat Pilates class at noon and call it good for the day. Since we have such short summers and long winters, this weather is getting pretty depressing 😕

Wishing for you also, edj!
Ruth: Always a good picture of the WWW, no matter how hot or cold it is.
Bad heat and humidity here, too. Ugh. Walked/slow ran this morning. I'm not a morning walker but knew if I didn't go it wasn't going to happen. This afternoon my mental exercise was paper quilling. I have so much to learn. In case you can't tell (it IS a little busy lol) the design is a pumpkin.

That quilling is amazing.

edj3, thinking of you as you head for your appt tomorrow!
ruthbru, I'll admit to being jealous of your walking group! It's so great that you've got chums to walk with.
I truly am not sure why my cholesterol is so high. I'm not vegetarian, but I eat very little meat. Like, once or twice a week I might have 2-4 ounces. I rarely eat fried foods (like once a year or maybe twice a year?). In the last year, I have cut my cheese intake to 2-4 ounces a day. In the last two years I've cut eggs down from five days a week to one day a week. I do use dairy in my smoothies -- nonfat Greek yogurt-based smoothies 3-5x week. I don't eat toast or bagels (or any white bread) so much anymore so my butter and cream cheese consumption is way down. I cook with primarily olive oil and like that to be sparing. I'm not sure what I'm missing.
I also don't eat much sugar (2 tsp maple syrup a day), don't consume much alcohol (maybe one drink/week), don't drink sugary drinks, have never smoked, and I eat a lot of whole foods, so fiber is a thing I get plenty of.
Anyhoo...little dog and I walked for 40 min today before I was sick enough of all the mosquitos to drag her home. It's 10am, I've only been up 4.5 hours, and I feel like I am going to crash soon. I need an Energy Fairy!
