It was raining Tues morning so no walk but went raspberry picking with DH once it stopped. A friend has a large patch and invited us to pick all we wanted. Yum! Lots in the freezer and we've been enjoying fresh berries. Supper last night was spinach ravioli and a fabulous salad made with fresh-picked lettuce from our garden, plus tomatoes, raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, and cashews. mmm

Walked early yesterday while it was still cool then went to visit mom. She is doing OK. I'm going with her today for a doc app't. She will not ride in my car, insisting on a wheelchair transport van so she can roll in & out. I meet them at her care home then ride in to the clinic. It costs $90 for the round trip which is not cheap but it's peace of mind for her and avoids any possible injuries - to me or her. Will be home late so no idea what's for supper. DH works until 3PM so he can figure it out.

It's going to be hot today so I got out early this morning for my walk.

Badger - I love picking raspberries and eating them, too. The place we are going this weekend for blueberries also has raspberries but they're not ready now. I would love to go back when I can get raspberries, but it's quite the drive. I may do it anyway! So nice that your husband can figure out dinner sometimes.

I hope the appointment with your mom goes well. It's nice to have the transport service available so that you can choose.

    Love watching dogs swim!

Have fun with your dd this weekend GoKale. Sounds like you have a fun time planned.

badger: Glad that your mom is ok. You're a good daughter.

HI All! Mowed for 75 minutes today. Took breaks bc it's so hot and humid.

    Have a good weekend everyone!

Nice cool morning so got out and walked. Ever notice that most dogs wag their tails while they walk? Is it physiology or happiness? Doesn't really matter LOL.

GoKale, my DH is a retired chef so it's no trouble for him to whip up a meal. Our only difference is in preferences. He's a meat & potatoes person and I prefer veg.

Got home at 5:30 PM after waiting an hour for the wheelchair van to pick us up. Luckily it was nice enough for us to sit outside the clinic entrance and people-watch. Mom has a frozen shoulder and the doc prescribed more PT and maybe a cortisone shot. The lack of movement is causing swelling in her left hand. She's got an LE sleeve w/glove, which helps, but she doesn't like it and I think doesn't wear it much. Also, she's had a few TIAs (mini-strokes) and is having trouble with her legs. She couldn't step up onto the scale to get weighed. She's frustrated and I don't blame her. We all want to be able to do what we want when we want to, but sometimes that isn't possible.

I would have joined Bruno in the swim! There were dogs at the swimming hole earlier this week. All of us were having a wonderful time.

I am off in a couple of hours for a 4-day weekend of helping out at the winery tasting room, restocking wine and the like. It will be hot on the other side of the mountains, but the mornings should be cool. Think I will cycle and not hike the canyon this time. I will try out at least one local swimming hole.

It turned out to be a major blessing that my Scotland trip is postponed until next year. While I am givng up my nonprofit work, I plan to do some project work. That will fund my travel, or at least make a huge difference in what I am able to do. More fine dining; better rooms; general upgrades; more trips.

Which brings me to: out of the sky, I just landed the most lucrative consulting project ever. I would not have been able to do this one if I had been off to Scotland in August. Something challenging and fun. My long term client specifically asked for me as opposed to a big name consulting firm. She will also want me to do her overflow work going forward, so it's a major win!

It will be quite the busy summer as I hand off my nonprofit duties and prepare for my new life. Plus do this and one other small project.

I also will have a place to stay when I visit Boston! I can't wait to get back for a few days. Looking forward to being a (well-funded) Lady of Leisure! - Claire

Claire, being well-funded is definitely good if you aspire to be a lady of leisure! 😄

Badger, dogs are wagging their tails because they are happy! The happier they are the more waggy they get. I am so sorry your mom is having all those medical issues.

I got up early to water, pick weeds, transplant a couple annuals that were being crowded out by the perennials etc. etc. I am taking a quick break on the deck before I head inside to clean the house. Blah! If I were a true lady of leisure, I'd be paying someone else to do THAT job!

Walked this morning while it was still cool. Need to go drag the hose around the house. It's going to be hot & sunny today with no rain until Tues.

So, our heatwave has broken, but been replaced by a pretty steady downpour for the last few days. The "Drowned Rat"-look is definitely all the rage around here these days. My hiking boots haven't managed to be dry since it started raining Wednesday.

I only managed to get my little dog to do 0.4km this morning. And my DH and kiddo are both gone until Thursday, so it's gonna be just she and I until there. I'm her morning walker and have started doing nighttime walks more nights than not, but now she's just got me, all day.

In the last few days I've started up doing yoga again. My goal is to do some every day -- even if it's just 10 minutes before bed -- because I really do find it relaxing and it helps me roll with stuff I can't control. I'll be doing it again today, for sure.

It is still heat-waving here. Whew! Bruno & I walked early this morning (to beat both the heat and the fireworks.....which people are allowed to shoot off here, so it sounds like a war zone.....not good if you have dogs in your life!). We also set up tables, chairs etc. and tried to get organized for our backyard picnic tomorrow. Happy 4th of July!!!

Weather here in the San Francisco Bay Area where I am visiting, is darned near perfect, I am happy to report. Cool mornings thanks to the fog, sunny afternoons, highs in the high sixties. Met a friend today for dim sum and then walked it off with a visit to UC Berkeley's botanical garden, where I got in about 2 miles of walking....the best part was that the garden includes a small but beautiful grove of coast redwoods. Obviously something I don't get to enjoy in New Mexico! A few pics from my walk:

Badger- I bet the PT will really help your mom.

We had a terrific 4th of July weekend. We hiked, kayaked, played tennis, picked blueberries and did a lot of walking. Weather was perfect.

Here’s a picture of the Berry farm.

Sun: Walked to the 4th of July fireworks with some neighbors. We live about 1/2 mile away and traffic was nuts so easier to walk and bring the lawn chairs.

Mon: Slept in due to late night and idiots shooting off fireworks until midnight. Was too HHH (hazy, hot & humid) to walk outside comfortably so took the day off.

Tues: Walked this morning, dragged the hose around the house to water, went to a 9AM dentist appt (just a cleaning), then did errands. Staying in rest of the day.

I was at the dentist this morning too (regular checkup). We actually had some rain last night (yea) and is was lovely, cloudy, and cool all day. I took Bruno to the Dog Park for some doggie fun, and am off to Barre Sculpt & Yoga in a few minutes.

GoKale: that’s a lot of blueberry bushes! We have 8 to 10 bushes and they keep me very busy when the berries come in.

Happy 4th of July week. Just a quick hello. We are at the beach and having a great time swimming, walking. Weather has been beautiful but tomorrow night the storm Elsa will be here. This is the view from the deck.

    Cheers, Wonderland!

Ruth, the cloudy cool weather is here now. Lovely indeed. Maybe some rain later. Would be good, we can use it. Got in my walk & now sipping a 2nd cup of coffee.

A friend thinned out irises and dropped off a bag of little rhizomes yesterday afternoon. Will plant them today on the south side of the house after I dig up some lilies of the valley in trade. He has shady spots to fill, and there's too much sun for them since we had a tree taken down due to emerald ash borer. I'm also going to give him some hostas but they are currently blooming so it's not the best time to move them.

9AM haircut then off to visit mom.

    Wonder - stay safe.

It's a furnace in Denver today - 102 (record is 103 in 1989). Half hour ago it was 101 so wonder if it will increase anymore. 100 forecast for tomorrow. Then I think it will "cool" off to high 80s and low 90s!!

Met a girlfriend early this morning for iced tea and we chatted forever like we always do. She is a retired teacher. Came home and went into the crawl space to consolidate, organize purge and donate. Found a box that had a couple kids things on top then the other 95% were test protocols/reports and invoices when I did private practice - these were from 91 - 92 so lots of shredded. Threw out tons of old picture negatives and some pictures in the envelopes that weren't very good. Still lots to do.

It sounds like a good day to be INSIDE doing all that sorting & shredding, Karen. We are happily more moderate at the moment so we took a long hike. I went to Barre Sculpt & Zumba tonight.

Nice & cool here today. Overcast and in the 60s most of the day. Good day for Garden & Sculpt. Dug up lilies and planted irises. It's supposed to rain overnight.

That's some crazy wind, Wonderland! :-)

I have been on hold with Alligient Airlines for 90 minutes now, so I am trapped in my house until they pick up the phone!Devil

I am going to do some Marshall Fitness dancing on my computer while I wait for them to tell me that I can't extend my voucher.

Ruth, how frustrating! Hope you get your voucher extended.

We got rain so the ground is nice & soft. Just spent three hours weeding. It's been like doing one-armed planks all morning. Brace on one arm while pulling weeds with the other. Switch arms & repeat. Hold core firm to stay steady while working around the foliage to not damage the good plants. I have sure gotten a lot of use from that garden kneeler.
