Yea Karen, I am glad you made it there in one piece!

I got home from my little girlfriend's reunion. A great couple days of visiting, laughing, eating etc.I just spent a couple hours doing yardwork before it gets too hot, am going to walk the dog, and then need to clean the house. Yuck!!

There's so much smoke from the wildfires here it burns my eyes and can't breathe, plus heat wave ugh! No bike ride :( I watered my poor toasted garden.

Karen, enjoy the beach and the visit to DD! Hope you get your money back.

We've had some flooding here but under control unlike tragedies in Germany and elsewhere in Europe. Watched a horsejumping event yesterday, then did some sightseeing with a visitor. Am heading out on my bike on paved roads today so as to avoid fallen trees, mud, puddles and whatnot in the forest,

Hot, hot, hot here. I did yard work and watered this morning. I'm watching Bruno play with the neighbor dog in the yard and have sweat pounds off me. Pound and Zumba tonight.

Still keeping steady with the weights and elliptical. Did a weights break at noon today, then a 45 minute walk after dinner to enjoy the cooler temps. My lower back seems to have reboundedfrom strenuous hikes on vacation.

Dance2fit this morning, Barre Sculpt this afternoon. Hot with bad air quality due to all the wildfires. 'Hazardous' east of us, according to the meteorologist on TV.

saltmarsh: Sending you a huge (((HUG))) and hoping that with each passing day your inner spark is growing bigger and stronger. Thank you for trusting us with your despair. We are here to help each other in our times of need.

edj: So sorry about the death of your MIL. And then your fall. Please let us know how you are doing and how your wrist is healing. I've always been amazing at your drive but it sounds like this injury has stopped you in your physical and emotional tracts. Sending you a healing (((HUG)))

PAKNC: Has the wrist splint helped your neuropathy?

Karen: how wonderful that you are visiting your dd. Enjoy! And hope you get refunded for the dumpy rental.

MKestrel: The fires are devastating. You have a bird as your avatar and I can't stop thinking about all the animals.

Ruth: Old friends are like family. They know a lot about us way back when.

Hi Everyone! We haven't mowed the yard in 2 and 1/2 weeks. It's been so dry. It did rain some Sunday and yesterday so we mowed today. Sweat, sweat, sweat. DH got stung 9 times by some type of ground bee. Not sure if they were yellow jackets. He's feeling the stings tonight!

I'm back to wearing my mask inside buildings. Unhappy with people who are not getting vaccinated, including my BIL and niece. Sigh.

Wonderland, yes this has just knocked the wind out of me. I never realized how important the non-dominant hand/thumb are. I'm running but carefully as I sure don't want to trip and fall.

It's super muggy here, and we're in for dangerous heat starting Friday through next Wednesday. I got in 4.6 miles today, I've been walking on the non-running days since I can't pick up weights.

    Hope everyone is doing well.

Wonderland, your DH is persistent. I would have stopped after the first sting.

Edj, sorry you are having to deal with yet another setback. It must be so frustrating.

Biked at least 3 hours having gotten a litte bit lost following a trail where river banks were overflowing in a number of places and trees had fallen, so kept having to take detours. Also walked with some friends along a lake outside the city. I just read that melting glaciers have added 1000 lakes to Switzerland's landscape. Pretty soon we'll be like the Finnish Lakeland,

Ruth - if I could put a "heart" on your Walking Wednesday posts, I would (too much Facebook!). I would love to assemble a group to walk with and do a bit of socializing, but I have not figured out a workable way to do it, yet.

Your neighborhood reminds me of Northern Ohio and Michigan - maybe it's the architecture and the well-kept lawns. I have very fond memories of those places.

Ruth - I read this thread regularly and admire everyone's efforts. And I think we are all jealous of your walking group. But I had to laugh at your latest post: If you are ever in North Dakota at 8:00am on a Wednesday morning, come on over! What about next January? LOL

Pound this morning, Dance2fit tonight. The heat index today was 105! Poor Bruno, after his walk this morning he crawled into his kennel and laid there most of the rest of the day. He's perked up now and chewing on a bone, so will hopefully be back to his energetic self tomorrow.

Heidi: That's crazy (and scary)about 1000 lakes being made in Switzerland due to melting glaciers!

Ruth: I also would love to join your WWW.

Like most of you, it's hot, humid, and hazy here. I didn't even leave the house. Ds had a 2 day job near us so he spent the night. He gave me some little black stones his friend had picked up in Charleston so I decided to paint them for his friend. The turtle shell stone is unique bc it's tall, not flat. It had to be painted as a turtle. Ds's friend's name is Jonah, thus the whale. This is my mental exercise for the day.

I esp love the animal stones. Those are incredible.

My right foot (the one I broke last year) hurt today. I'm practicing paying attention to my body, so canceled my planned run and took a rest day. (this is hard for me to do)

    Wonderland - gorgeous work!

I went to the gym yesterday to lift weights and walk on the treadmill. I walked this morning before work - wish I had more time in the morning because the temps are the best then. Today, I will take a steamy walk at lunch and then MAYBE swing by the gym again after work.

I am loving those animal stones, as well! And now I have that song about Jonah and the whale stuck in my head. :)

I am...trying to just keep putting one foot in front of the other. I'm just walking my dog...every morning, and now most nights. Perhaps it's a mercy that one of the podcasts I usually listen to in the morning on walks has been glitching, because it makes me put on music instead, and then I can dance around when my dog decides she just has to sniff in one place for a while. I'm pretty sure I'm burning more calories that way. I'm also pretty sure my neighbors think I'm nuts if/when they are up that early and look out the window.

Yesterday I got out on a 16 minute walk without the dog slowing me down, and with my kiddo biking alongside/around me in circles -- he just learned to ride a bike a week ago, so that is very exciting for both of us! I am looking forward to hopefully being cleared to ride with him after my reconstructive surgery in September!

After avoiding it for a few weeks because I was worried about what the results would be, I went and had blood drawn today so we can see if there is any change in my too-high cholesterol, blood sugar, etc., numbers. *fingers crossed*

edj, I am glad that you are listening to your body, but sad that it is being so uncooperative!

Saltmarsh, congratulations on your new bike rider. I remember how exciting it was when my DS first learned to ride his bike. So much fun!

GoKale, Bruno & I walked early, and not very long (he drank a liter of water when we were done). I am going to have to dance around the house with Marshall Fitness for the rest of my steps because it is too darn hot & humid to do anything else outside.

Here's me & my partner-in-crime; born to be wild!

Got home from my travels, and hubby and I promptly caught bad colds... :-( Got Covid tested just to be sure (we are fully vaccinated but it pays to be cautious)...not breakthrough Covid, just your basic summer cold. Apparently they are worse than usual right now as folks resistance is down from not being out and about as much over the past year...

So, while I did lots of walking while on my trip, the past few days I haven't done much of anything but eat chicken soup and sniffle a lot. Hope to get back to it tomorrow!

    Take care, all,

    Octogirl

Blah, summer colds are no fun!

We took an overnight get-away yesterday; we stayed at a Bed & Breakfast the had been the General's quarters in an old fort. So, it was like being in a museum except that you could touch everything, sit on it, use it etc. we also attended a performance of Grease put on in a park. Very fun! I was back in time to go to Barre Sculpt.

Ruth - I love that picture of you and Bruno! He's bigger than you are! Great dog family pic. Sounds like a great weekend getaway - the B and B sounds very interesting and fun.

Octogirl - I hope you and your hubby are feeling better soon. I think colds are going around.

Saltmarsh - so fun when the kids learn to ride bicycles. Enjoy!

Went to the gym yesterday with my husband to lift weights and walk on the treadmill. Saturday night we walked down to the neighborhood swimming pool . We love to go in the evening because it isn't crowded usually. While did some swimming, floating in the pool and looking at the darkening sky is quite peaceful.

Went for a hike this morning with our neighbor and her dog. The very naughty Bruno rolled around in something dead and chased a runner. Grrrr.....Zumba tonight.

Hi all, I've been walking but not posting. Last week was my first full week of new part-time job. I will work 20-25 hours per week and they are so glad to have me. I'm a re-hired retiree who knows my way around and will be a huge asset. Claire, I imagine it will be similar for you.

So hot during the day! My week is like this: Mon - Fri walk early & water the garden, have coffee & read the paper, work until 3-ish, then knock off & start prepping for supper. Weds afternoons are a mom visit. Had to change from Weds AM to Weds PM due to a weekly team meeting from 11 - 12. On Sat I do errands, shop, cook & clean. On Sun we go visit my MIL. Busy busy!!
