SSDI review with metastatic breast cancer - lose benefits?
I just got a packet of mail from my state disability determination services office, saying that they are reviewing my disability status. I was diagnosed with unnumberable bone-only mets in Feb 2020. I was on Kiquali/letrozole for about 4 years, and now I've sped through Orserdu, piqray, and now, Truqap just in this year. My tumor markers are down, so that's great. Scan coming up this week.
Has anyone with metastatic breast cancer lost their SSDI benefit and been expected to go back to work? I've never been NEAD, or NED. just stable. I have a lot of fatigue, panic attacks, anxiety, aches and pains, diarrhea, stomach pain etc. I can't walk a far way, I can't stand for too long. Anyhoo, let me know if you have been in this situation. Routine? Nothing to worry about? Please share. Thanks.

Others have mentioned the review so it may be standard. Make sure your doctor documents your symptoms

I just wanted to reply with the outcome. I filled out the forms for Social Security and I just received the reapproval of my SSDI. They call me or anything, so it was no big deal in the end.

Glad to hear!

When I was approved last July, I remember reading that they will do a benefits review in 5-7 years. I suspect it’s just routine and nothing for you to worry about…

Hello,
Newly diagnosed stage 4 bone Mets and wondering if you guys applied for disability on your own. Someone told me to get an attorney. How long did it take to get and did your doctors provide the needed documentation? Any info is appreciated!

It was several years ago now but I did an application on line & walked a print out of my “after visit summary” (which included diagnoses) into the local Social Security office. It was approved within 10 days. Not sure how things are working at this point however a lawyer should not be needed.

My experience was similar to what @vlnrph said above. Phone application, very promptly approved, retroactive benefits directly deposited to my checking account very swiftly, even. Was never called for a redetermination, either, now I am above retirement age, so I won’t be.
Metastatic breast cancer is on the “compassionate allowance” list for SSDI, so an attorney should not be needed. Link to info on ssa dot gov:
