I started to reply, but I don't have occult with lymph node metastasis. I'm sure someone will come in and say hi. I do have occult but not to my lymph nodes that I know of.
I'm sorry you had to join, but there are a lot of great women with so much knowledge in this forum.

Hi MMinNC, We are so thinking of you! It's hard to hear this diagnosis. This thread where you are posting has been inactive for some time, so you may want to post elsewhere. Anyway, you are NOT alone and there are amazing people here in the community who will help guide you along with all its ups and downs.

HI Snaffle53,
I was diagnosed with occult BC in Nov 2016 based on enlarged lymph node. Mammo, ultrasound and MRI all showed no breast tumor. Treated at Sloan Kettering: first chemo (AC-T), then sentinel node biopsy. By the time they did the surgery, all traces of cancer were gone from the node so they only took a total of 3 lymph nodes. Next I had 5 weeks of whole breast radiation and now I'm on Tamoxifen (couldn't handle side effects of aromatase inhibitors). I have been cancer free for almost 4 years now. While I had some complications throughout, this treatment plan worked for me.

I had same diagnosis. I see you are in 2013 , long time ago. I’m having bad ptsd about not doing a. Masectomy but they didn’t suggest it then either . I had 11 nodes removed . 6 still positive had lymph chin, node dissection , radiation . Just curious how you’re doing and what you decided on treatment , masectomy or not ?

Hi @jenn92 , welcome to the community. We just wanted to let you know that @kirklandgal hasn’t been active on the boards since 2017, so she may not see your question.
You’re welcome to try sending her a private message, but you may also want to start a new thread with your questions. That’s often the best way to get the attention of members who are currently active and who’ve been through something similar.
We’re glad you found us, and we hope others will chime in to support you soon. Please let us know if there’s anything we can help with.
Warmly,

Hi Jen -
I didn't do a mastectomy and am now almost 13 years out n- and still cancer free.
First, I had an axillary lymph node dissection and port placement (protocols from 2013 were different than now to some extent). I ended up having 4 positive lymph nodes - I don't recall how many were removed. Then went on to have chemo and radiation. There were problems with my chemo that I don't want to go into detail here - summary is bad oncologist who didn't listen to me when I told her about side effects, which has resulted in long term problems for me.
If I had it to do again, I would still not do a mastetomy. But I would also get a different oncologist and do less chemo too.
I also didn't do Tamoxifen (even though I am ER+, PR+, HER2+). Because I felt that I had been over-chemo'd and was already having a lot of chemo related health problems by then.
If you have any specific questions, feel free to PM me.
Good luck! And listen to your gut (get a second opinion if your gut doesn't agree with your physicians).

Hello all 💕
I got diagnosed with Occult breast cancer on 02/05/2026. I am triple positive (ER+PR+HER2+).
First step is chemo (TCHP) that will start next week on 03/03/2026.
I am grateful I found this community because it is so rare and it is hard to find someone to talk to about this particular scenario.I wish all of you fast recovery and be completely healthy and healed!
Hope to learn more and help you, support you in whatever way I can 🫶🏼
sincerely,
Natalia

I just found this site about a week ago. I haven't even posted about my case yet, just been reading so far. But I wanted to reach out to you since I, too, am newly diagnosed with occult breast cancer. (what a crazy thing, huh?!) It's only been about a month since I found out about this new (and strange!) bc diagnosis. It was a total fluke that it was found at all as I went in for a left breast ultrasound and the tech inadvertently included part of a suspicious looking node. Radiologist caught it in a second and sent her back in to do an ultrasound of axilla. And the rest is history. So, far I've only had that one node biopsied which showed breast cancer (ER/PR+, HER2-, Grade 2) And they are calling this a "recurrence" since I had the same type of breast cancer 24 years ago!!!! Yes, in 2002, at the age of 42. I'm 66 now!! Of course there is a lot of guessing with this occult stuff, isn't there? Because no one really knows how or why it happens the way it does. Perhaps there was a small primary tumor that got erased by my immune system, but not before it spread to the nodes? Or has it actually been in this node all along, laying dormant, and for whatever reason decided to spring to life now??
I have a PET/CT scan in a couple weeks which I am quite anxious about. Well, not the procedure — but waiting for the results!! Other than that I've met once with a medical oncologist and once with a breast surgeon. It's still pretty early days for me on this journey. Thought we had a surgery plan, but just yesterday his office called and scheduled another visit for next week. I was told he wants to talk to me about other options. ???
You said you were starting chemo on 3/03. So you must be in the thick of it now. I dearly hope you are coping with it well. I was so thankful that I did not have to do chemo in '02. It was truly the thing that frightened me the most. I am sending you LOTS of good thoughts Natalia, and MANY healing wishes. And a really BIG {{hug}} !!! (And if anyone else is reading this, and needs a HUG, please help yourself to that one!!)
Best wishes,
Julie

@love4allcreatures Welcome to the group no one wanted to join. I also have occult BC found inadvertently on mammogram (thank goodness for the tech). Shortly after the diagnosis surgery was scheduled but then my case went to a breast cancer board and another treatment was recommended. I started immediately on letrozole and then Verzenio, had a break for a lumpectomy (papilloma, not cancer, in the breast) and sentinel node removal then radiation. I’m back on both meds now. There’s so little known about occult breast cancer and I occasionally look online to see if anything new has been found. This is also my 2nd round though in the opposite breast.
Good luck to you. Please let us know how you’re doing.2 -
Hi @orknitter !
Thanks for reaching out as a fellow occult-bc case! I have googled til my fingers are blue…but there just isn't that much info out there on this occult presentation.
I feel that is what has happened in my case as well, tumor board must have come up with a consensus that is different than what surgeon had previously relayed to me. It's definitely better to have more brains working on our case, but I'm anxious now, wondering what he'll have to say.
So, with your treatment in 2024, did you have radiation to your breast? Or your axilla? Or both? In 2002 I barely gave radiation a second thought. But this time around is different. I am extremely concerned about developing lymphedema. Especially if I end up needing the double-whammy of an ALND and radiation to the axilla. The breast surgeon told me that since there is no evidence of bc in breast they would not do any surgery on it. (which also makes me nervous, lol…seriously I'm nervous if they DO something and nervous if they don't!) But he did say the radiation oncologist (whom I haven't met with yet) might recommend radiation to the breast. But I've already received radiation to this breast. I thought you could only have radiation once? But again, still need to talk to a radiation doc. Plus, with radiation to the left side there is risk of cardiac damage. If it's not one thing, it's another, huh??
Anyway, I hope you are doing well on the meds you are on. And hope every test and scan you have keeps coming back 100% CLEAR! I very much appreciate you reaching out. This club we're in is so very exclusive…it's nice to know there really are other members out there. :)
Take care,
Julie

@love4allcreatures Julie, I am doing okay with my meds. I do get an occasional bout of diarrhea but as long as I’m careful with my diet I’m fine.
So to explain a few things. In 2015 I had DCIS in my left breast. That was treated with lumpectomy, nothing removed from the lymph nodes, followed by radiation then 5 years of exemestane and anastrozole. In 2024 I had a routine mammogram where a lymph node on the right was suspicious. That led to an ultrasound, then biopsy which proved BC. I also had a papilloma in the right breast. I have trust in my care team so when the surgeon explained that she’d remove 3-5 nodes as well as the papilloma I was fine with that. The radiologist explained the reasons for radiation with occult BC in particular and with the little bit of research I was okay with that. The area radiated this time was much larger going all the was above my collar bone on the right and under my arm as well as the breast. The number of treatments was much less, 15. BTW, I was told that I could have radiation on the left with the new treatments and how much time has passed.
My BC would probably be stage 2 if they could stage occult. But it was grade 3 so aggressive. I also have a family history with my sister who passed in her 40s from breast cancer. I think all this was part of the team’s decision to be a little aggressive with treatment.
Please keep in touch,Laura

Hello @love4allcreatures !!!
Thank you for reaching out and sharing your story! We are sure the unique club!I just had my fourth chemo session on 05/05 and currently recovering, taking it easy. I will have total of 6 chemo TCHP sessions. 4 in the books, 2 more to go. I am currently waiting on MRI to be scheduled to see progress so far and also after 6th session there will be a PET scan and surgery to remove the lymph node. After removal of the lymph node will see what the pathology results are and doctors will let me know about radiation. I do know I will be on HP immunotherapy till next February (2027).
This is not an easy journey when you know that they did not find anything in your breast but you have BC in your lymph node. Do I remove my breast since there is a chance something is there but it is so small that they can't find it? Or did my organ protected me and immune system destroyed the cell/tumor but yet sent it to my lymph node?
We are in the same boat and I am glad to meet you and also @orknitter , thank you for sharing your story as well!
I am 35 now and I have a 2 year old son :) he is my everything and I keep pushing forward. Some days are bad but most days are good! I am reading a lot self-love and how illness is there for a reason ti heal you! Everyone has their own opinions on that but I personally believe that with the power of traditional medicine, trust in your doctors, support from your favorite people , self-love, self-discovery, self-focus we can leave this behind us and it will be just another memory. Their is our current fight and we will definitely win!
Julie, how did the PET scan go for you?
Laura, I wanted to say I am sorry you lost your sister… Sending you the biggest hug!Ladies, it is wonderful to meet you! Let's keep in touch!
Have a great day and enjoy the weekend!Sincerely,
Natalia
