The food was great and our table was right next to the musicians. They did not play loudly, so it was nice.

Hello everyone just checking in. Your lives are all more interesting than mine at the moment, haha. Thank you for posting. I really enjoy this thread. Welcome to the newcomers and hope this is as encouraging a space as I've found it to be. A place near us with a preening Ibis.

We’re running amuck trying to get ready to leave. Last night we were downtown for Art Walk and to meet friends for dinner. It might be the last one until after summer, it gets too hot.

    IMG_4452.jpeg IMG_4454.jpeg

This was like a graffiti artist spray painting on clear plastic. In person it was amazing.

Tonight 13 of us from our street went out to dinner. It was delicious and a good goodbye meal.

Carol, my back has been in spasms, moving too much and stress. I hope your knee feels better.

Things done today, and some put off for tomorrow. One car was washed & vacuumed; other car needs to wait until tomorrow. Tomorrow steaming tile floors. I found another note of things to do - I need some baking soda to put in the fridge & freezer. I also polished all the stainless steel appliances. The stove interior is clean. The fridge, as we empty it out we’ll clean it. I took in all garden items & solar things, put in the garage for the summer. We do that so nothing becomes a projectile during a storm. Our neighbor bought us a lock to put over the outside spigot, so I did that today too.

Clothes: I have too many. My one suitcase that stays in the trunk has so much in it, and it’s still not all I need to go. Shoes, sandals, sneakers, slippers, canvas bag of books… we will make it all fit. Tomorrow. Hahahha

Petite, the fires here were below us, more south east by Alligator Alley; then north of us in Charlotte county. We are in a BIG drought. We had a little rain tonight but not enough to help us. This photo is from 4/10, you can see how low the retention pond is plus the end of an alligator going back into the water. The water is even lower now.

    IMG_4460.jpeg

That’s it for me. I’ve got so much to get done tomorrow, and we will get it done - just keep checking off things from the list, and the additional lists… haha!

Today we headed north to the Burren and a stop at Rathbaun farm where we as groups made scones with each of us completing a task in the making. They were then baked in a 400 degree oven while we visited the barn where they housed representatives of different sheep breeds. All were awesome and pregnant. Plus they had 4 lamb rescues who were either rejected by their mothers, their mothers had died during lambing or a farmer wanted rid of them. They asked volunteers to help feed 2 of them and I volunteered. The one I had nursed so hard I was glad I was bottle feeding and not a ewe's teat. It was fun though. Once we were done the farm visit which also included a sheep dog rounding up a herd demo, we went back to eat the scones we made with clotted cream and rhubarb-ginger jam. They were delicious. Long day, but saw a lot and am tired.

Hoping everyone had a great day and waving "hi" to everyone.

Also spent afternoon walking around Galway. Wearher intermitent rain.

betrayal - what a fun day! The scones look delicious. I’m so glad to hear the trip is going well.

Cindy - such a cool art fair! I’m exhausted reading about what it will take to pack up and head north.

Petite - glad you are starting to feel better.

Reader - good to hear from you.

Carole - I can empathize with the sore knee. Last Sunday I did my usual workout at the gym and all was fine until I got off the exercise bike and my knee gave out and pain shot through it. I hobbled out to my car and spent the week icing it, taking Aleve, gently stretching and riding my exercise bike at home. It’s not 100% but it’s better so I went back to the gym today. So far, so good. I can’t get another cortisone shot for a few weeks but I also want to talk to them about hyaluronic gel shots and if that will be effective for longer.

    Waving ‘hi’ to everyone.

Looks like a wonderful trip! Thanks for sharing the pics. Have been to Ireland 5 times and would go again in a heartbeat. The majority of my DNA comes from there! Hope you visit the Burren Perfumery. Beautiful place with enormous flower gardens from which they extract the scents use in there perfumes and soaps.

eleanora, unfortunately, on this tour we are not stopping at local places to shop like the Burren perfumery. I wish we were because we like to browse. I also share the DNA of many Irish forbearers. I am in search for an Irish wool sweater of the old style wool since they are heavy and handknit. Today they are mostly merino wool, colorful, but lightweight, and not what I want. On the next tour we will go to the Aran islands and I should be able to find one there hopefully. I've even had shopkeepers comment on the one I'm wearing that I purchased in Donegal many years ago. I did find out the wool is from a Jacob sheep.

    I'll post more later.

betrayal - on Inishmore the Aran Sweater Market is within walking distance of the ferry dock. When I was there in 2022 they had a large selection. Enjoy shopping!

We left Fort Myers before noon. I believe we accomplished everything that needed to get done to close the house up. One glitch, I unplugged the whole house filter right as it went into its daily backwash, and it kept backwashing forever. I thought I’d have a flood at the side of the house, so I turned off the water to the whole house. I’ll see what memory it keeps upon my return - and see if I remember when I put it back on!

The drive up wasn’t bad. Typical congestion at predicted exits, Sarasota is always a bear. Our GPS offered an alternate route to save 35 minutes so we took it. We ended up going through the Ocala National Forest where we’ve never been before. Seemed beautiful, saw hiking paths and many lakes - more than I ever knew were in Florida.

We checked into the hotel and walked to a restaurant for dinner, St Mary’s Seafood & More - boy was it good! I had shrimp & cheese grits - bacon, shallots, and a sauce I had on the side. The sauce was delicious and filled with andouille sausage. I only dipped as it’s too much for my reflux. But SO made out because he poured it over my leftover cheesy grits and ate it up.

By the by, we have a big tote bag full of speciality beer bottles, cushioned with about 10 bags of speciality coffees - some ground, some beans. All World Market products. And I thought we were getting out without extra bags in the car. Silly me

I’m showered and calling it a night. Hope you all had a good day.

Yard work today. My goal is to remove invasive vines and trees in the two large wisteria shrubs at the entrance of the driveway. Also prune back the wisteria growth. Time estimate is between one and two hours.

I have no use for a wool sweater or wool anything.

    Safe travel, Cindy.

Unable to post yesterday due to long day and fatigue. We went to Kylemore Abbey where we were able to enter what had been an estate house at one time, but then was sold to Benedictine nuns and they used it as a residence and boarding school. It was beautiful inside and I will post interior photos. The abbey is on a lake and it is gorgeous. It has a chapel which we visited and we skipped the walled garden since we will visit again on our next tour.

We traveled to Westport for lunch and some free time. Our last stop was at our hotel in Sligo.

Today we went to the Giant's causeway. Took a guided walking tour of Derry with an excellent guide who is the son of a Chinese nurse and an Irish school teacher. He laughingly told us another tourist told him he didn't look like a typical Irishman which he doesn't. Said his mother was the one Buddhist in Derry!

Derry was very pretty. No time for a lunch stop so we spotted a Mark's and Spencer and hit their café for a scone with clotted cream and strawberry jam with a pot of tea. We know M&S from London.

harley07, thanks for the sweater info. I did find one in Westport that was a handwritten with Irish wool, but wanted to wait for Inishmore.

thenewme26, welcome. We look forward to you joining this forum. We are here to help you.

thenewme26 - I’m sorry you had to join us but we welcome you with open arms and look forward to your comments. I did not need chemo for breast cancer, however I did have chemo for ovarian cancer when I was diagnosed in 2024. Like you I got a buzz cut (two years ago this week) after my first infusion so that my hair did not fall out in clumps. Within a few weeks I was completely bald. My eyebrows held out until the 5th infusion and then fell out all at once. Wishing you the very best.

    Betrayal - awesome pictures!

    Cindy - safe travels!

In Belfast and were scheduled for a walking tour of the city, but it was pouring rain, windy and cold. Lasted for a few blocks and called it quits. Guide informative so sorry to have quit. So no photos today.

It has been a great tour so far and it is so nice to meet people who are genuinely kind and helpful. Small group of 26 on the bus and this is the way we like to travel. One lone Canadian and the rest from the US. Good tour guide.

    Leave Belfast tomorrow.

Hope everyone has a great day and waving "hi" to everyone from the dry interior of our hotel.

We left Raleigh late after visiting with my stepson; headed to Gettysburg. Well, GPS had a few options but we picked the one that did take longer but it thankfully avoided Washington, DC.

We ended up going on a road through Catoctin State Park. Wee oh, what a road. It was 35 mph, down to 15 mph at the hairpin turns. There was a guardrail to prevent a tumble down into the water, but a lot of them had been destroyed from being hit by a car/truck/whatever. It was beautiful, but dang! Luckily the rain had stopped long before we got there. I’d go back to hike and see the waterfalls; it looked beautiful from my quick glances; SO confirmed it was. No pictures, as I had two hands firmly on the wheel.

We’re at a hotel tonight that is on a service road behind a bunch of outlets. We drove back over to grab dinner, without much further driving, with 15 minutes to spare before closing. So tomorrow I may have to swing in and run around for an hour before hitting the road. I need no clothes, but I saw a Pepperidge Farms outlet, and my interest is peaked. What pray tell…do you how many Milano cookies can I fit in my trunk? I hope they have samples. Hahah!

Welcome newtome26. I’m sorry you got to join us.
