Henry Ford bought and reassembled houses and workshops of famous investors & artists for his re-created late 1800s Greenfield Village. Here's the Wright Brothers real house and workshop!

    Great pictures, Ruth!

Was supposed to have patio time (and wine) with a GF tonight, but we are having 2 inches of rain! So just signed up for a gym class after school today…bonus gym, always a good thing! TT

Love all the pictures, Ruth! You and dh are having the best time.

Badger: Thank-you for letting us know how your eye is doing. May it continue to improve daily.

TT: Like you with your patio, I'm in the process of working on our deck. A year ago or so we had to have a large maple removed and now the patio is too sunny for the majority of the day. It's fine in the evening and early morning. On cool days I can sit out during the day but then I get sunburned. So I've ordered a retractable awning and I'm meeting a guy this week to discuss restaining it. I stained it when it was built but I need someone who has the necessary equipment to do the restraining correctly.

Ds and granddaughter visited this weekend. DD and little baby came over. She loves her cousin and calls him Baby. So cute!

Short walk this evening. Tomorrow a friend of DD's is watching little baby while dh and I host a blood drive at the church.

We did fun Niall Falls stuff today. Beautiful scenery! Lots of people, so I'm glad we're on a tour so somebody else gets to deal with the transportation, reservations etc.

Today is the red ponchos because we went on the boat right under the falls. Wet and fun!

Such cool pictures, Ruth! So powerful.

Dh and I set up the room at the church for the Red Cross Blood Drive. The Red Cross employees unloaded and set up all their equipment. They turned on their computer that connects everything. It worked and then it quit working. They made phone calls and tried desperately to trouble shoot. People with appointments started coming in and we told them they were running 15 minutes late. The computer problem could not be fixed so we had to cancel the drive! The RC employees disassembled and packed up their equipment. Dh and I put the room back in order. Then we came home and fell asleep!

Once you give blood you're on the RC list and receive email after email that the need for blood is urgent. I hate that this happened today. We had to turn away a young lady who was going to give for the first time. This was her 2nd attempt bc the first drive she made an appointment with also had to cancel due to the room being too hot (it has to be at least 68 degrees). The Red Cross lady told me this was the 2nd drive in a week that was canceled due to the same computer problem. I know things happen but come on Red Cross, please try to do better. People were upset that they couldn't give blood today.

    No exercise today.

So disappointing, for everone, Wonderland. Grrrr......

We went down & got to change the lights on the waterfall & watch the fireworks, which go off every night. A long travel day today.

Ruth, the lights were my favorite thing about the falls!

Love the Falls at night all lit up! So pretty.

My energy came back today after dealing with the canceled blood drive. For some reason that really took it out of me. But I'm better today and had a fabulous walk, even in 90 degree weather. The dew point in the low 60s really made a difference.

Got to the gym at lunch, that makes 6x this week! Woohoo.

Love the lights on the water. We stayed at a curved Marriott at Niagara Falls 20+ years ago which gave every room a good view of the colors and the fireworks.

Glad you got your energy back after the major disappointment of the cancelled blood drive, we always need blood so botched event is a true loss.

Going to see Alison Krause and Union Station tomorrow at the music event in our town. Last night was Melissa Etheridge and Wynona Judd, way cool for us older folks!

Have a great weekend everyone, TT

We made it home in one piece as did our luggage, despite the best efforts of American Airlines. Delayed flights, sitting on runways extra time both while landing & trying to take off, literally running through the terminal in Dallas to catch our next flight. Argh!! We pulled into our driveway at 2:30am. Today was catch-up around here & two dog walks. We always have a backyard picnic on the 4th of July; so getting that organized is on my list for tomorrow.

TT: Allison K. as the voice of an angel. What a wonderful music event to be right in your town.

Ruth: I'm tired just reading about your travelling. Glad you and your luggage are home now and you can get ready for your annual picnic.

Yesterday we went to Chapel Hill to visit ds. It was his birthday on Thursday and we had a wonderful time.

I had a zoom meeting this afternoon so I walked earlier. Trying to get my outside exercise in while I can before the big heat wave starts on Wednesday. It's supposed to be upper 90s and 100 degrees for several days straight.

I walked twice yesterday but no exercise today as I had other obligations. I will be back to my classes tomorrow.

Got to the gym Sunday night and today at lunch time. Both strength and core classes…Sunday night at an easier pace.

Bummer on A. Krause…due to a violent T-storm Saturday night the start of the concert was pushed back several hours. She came on at 10pm (as I was going to bed). We have had this outdoor concert event for years, never have been skunked out totally before, oh well.

Happy start to the holiday week everyone. We are looking to be 98-100 Thursday - Sunday. Stay safe if your weather is similar. TT

It's pretty miserable here too. Yuck!

I went to Zumba this morning & Dance2fit tonight.

TT: That's disappointing about missing Allison's concert.

Our high heat starts on Wednesday. Not making any 4th plans due to it except visiting with dd's friend who is like my second daughter. She lives in Florida and will be here for a few days. Earlier this year we decided the next time we get together we would watch the movie Everest. Not sure if there's enough time during this visit but it would be an appropriate movie to watch while we're in the heat dome.

I took a short walk this evening.

A few weeks ago I posted a picture of the volunteer pumpkin that is growing near our front door. Little pumpkins are growing. Here is a new picture of it taken 3 days ago. Next year I'll definitely thin it out if it starts growing again. 😂

That is one crazy pumpkin! Good Red White & Blue group gathered…looks like a true small town downtown.

Got to the gym last night for strength and core and then today at lunch for tai chi…my left knee is sore from all the pivots, but as long as I stay on this side of sore (versus over to the other side being injured), I know my knees are a weak spot for me, so building resilience there is good.

It remains crazy hot…our two local hospitals are bringing in helicopters in anticipation of folks having heat related medical emergencies that will need to have them medevac to Richmond or Norfolk…it starts tomorrow with a "rave dance party" on the palace green of Colonial Williamsburg…in 98 degree heat with ++ heat index.

    Stay safe everyone! TT

We are hot, but not that hot! Stay inside & keep your pets inside too!

The Wednesday Walking Women were at a Frontier Village; a tourist stop with old buildings, displays, stage coach rides, a pasture where buffalo graze, and a giant buffalo statue.

Oh,love that it is Frontier Village! I first wrote it looked like an ol'timey western scene …and then I thought it looked several of the places we saw in Alaska which I believe are more recreations of what we would expect than restorations of what was…glad the WWW got to go on an outing! Love the crazy buffalo, reminds me of the lion at the entrance to the San Diego zoo.

Welcome to the second half of the year everyone! TT

All my students have seen 'the Buffalo', so I used him when we were studying dinosaurs so they could visualize their size. He is as big as an average Triceratops!

Lift this morning, a rainy dog walk, Dance2fit tonight.

I am off to Mat Pilates in a few minutes, which will be followed by a Dog Walk, and then I have to clean my house, make some baked beans & brownies for tomorrow. We will have our usual 4th of July picnic in the backyard (which has lots of shade, so we are okay unless it is raining). Hope everyone has a fun, safe day tomorrow!

We did all our food shopping this morning … our actual high temp today is 100 plus the heat index, so we were "happy" to get it all done with just lower 90's 🤣

Doing the shopping then meant I missed my noontime gym class. I'm off to practice piano, then visit with Mom, and then go to our local museum's special "First Friday" evening hours - they are hosting the American Tapestry before it starts touring the country. 13 embroidered panels, one for each of the original colonies, hand embroidered by local groups in each state.

If the weather keeps up like this, I'm going to become a parasol user!☂️

TT: The tapestry sounds amazing. I never learned how to embroider and I can only imagine how beautiful it is.

Ruth: I'm sure your party was a huge success. Wish I lived closer bc I would invite myself to it. 🙂

It's so hot. I only did 2 things this weekend. I painted my picnic table and I was able to visit with dd's friend (who is like my 2nd daughter) who was visiting from Florida for the weekend. I didn't think I was going to be able to see her and I was thrilled it worked out.

Dh and I are in the process of updating the deck. Painters restained it earlier last week and also built 2 gates. The gates have been needed since we had the old deck removed and the new one built 8 years ago. I've ordered a retractable awning that will arrive in several weeks. The sun just beats down on the deck in the afternoon making it impossible to use. The picnic table is over 25 years old and not in the best shape but it looks really nice with the new paint job.

We actually had rain late this afternoon. So thankful for it! The garden has been producing lots of squash, zucchini, and cucumbers. I made 5 loaves of zucchini/chocolate chip bread this afternoon. My pumpkin patch will just keeps growing!

We did have a nice 4th of July picnic in the yard & Wonderland, you would have definitely been invited if I thought you could make it!! We need teleporting to be invented!! Yesterday I did nothing, which felt good. Today I have Zumba in the morning and PiYo (a combination of pilates & yoga) at 5:30. We still have leftover hamburgers, hot dogs, beans, salads & watermelon; so no cooking for me!

  • wonderland
    wonderland Posts: 3,187

Love leftovers! I'm adding chicken to my leftovers for tonight's meal.

It's been so hot that I haven't walked. Painting the picnic table with 5 layers (2 layers of stain, 3 layers of sealer) was exercise so I'm counting it as such. I may walk this evening if it doesn't rain. I would rather it rain but if it doesn't I will slow walk, not fast walk.

As you can see my volunteer pumpkin patch just keeps growing. This pumpkin passed the test for ripeness so I cut it off the vine today. I don't know its actual variety but it turns a yellowish white. Plenty more are growing and hopefully they ripen to maturity also.

My daughter just told me yesterday that she is pregnant! I'm still in shock lol. Little baby is 7 months old now and this baby will be born late February. They tried for 2 years to have the first baby and now another on the way. I think my pumpkin patch is a metaphor for fertility. Thus I'm calling this baby Little Pumpkin and I will paint the first one to give to dd and sil.

I am so grateful and thankful for cancer treatments to have gotten me to this point in my life.

HIT & Core, and fun dog walk with Bruno & his girlfriend.
