Minus no it’s called Stir Fry Vegetable Blend. I really like it because it has about ten different veggies in it including yellow squash and water chestnuts.

It has been raining here since noon. Hopefully that will clear out the smoke.

Dinner tonight was meatballs in Rao’s on spaghetti. I couldn’t be left out of this week’s spaghetti crew, lol.

Hamburger tonight. It's good that the propane range is in place. The electricity failed around 4:45pm, most likely due to storm damage from the severe thunderstorm that "roared" through here.

Somehow, despite no personnel having been dispatched to check things out, the electric company knows that the power will be restored at 5:45pm, 7:45pm, 9;45pm, 10:45pm, 11:45pm.

The electric company is now estimating 12:30am for a restoration time. According to the company "A crew is being dispatched". To me that sounds like, "We still haven't dispatched a crew". :-)

Been there a few times Eric. Totally stinks!

Around 11pm we shut down the generator and went to bed. We left things set up so a hallway light would come on when the power was restored. Power was restored at around 12:40am.

Eric, It’s good you have the propane range and generator . I think the utility messages are meant to provide reassurance but have little relevance to reality.

Dinner tonight was pan fried tilapia, asparagus and tater tots for DH.

Neighbor Mary gave us lasagna she had made. We heated it in the microwave and I made a big salad. Easy dinner, easy cleanup.

Tonight will be the BLTs planned for last night.

    The heat continues.

The heat is here too and the smoke has finally reached us. It rained all around us yesterday but none for us.

Today is my birthday so I get to have a seafood boil tonight with fresh corn. If I can’t be by the beach let the beach come to me.

    Happy birthday, Nance!

So far, our weather has been holding up….tomorrow and wed. will be warm ups but we shall see how hot our little boot gets out here.

I had melted cheese over corn chips and some ice cream. No idea for today.

I hope the neighborhood cannot hear my hysterical sobbing. 😭

    Happy Birthday Nance! :-)

Wally…take your time. I remember I was a wreck for a very, very long time…and "so what" if the neighbors hear your sobbing….

More stormy weather on the way

Happy Birthday, Nance! A seafood boil is delicious wherever you enjoy it.

Carole, Easy dinners are a good way to beat the heat.

Wally, You need to grieve at your own pace. Hugs.

Eric, I hope your power stays on.

Dinner tonight was lamb chops, zucchini and pan fried potatoes.

The BLTs were good and easy.

It's cooler this morning but will be only a one-day respite. It's very windy.

Hugs for you, Wally, as you grieve.

    Leftover Oriental Spaghetti tonight

Pork steak cooked in slow cooker with barbecue sauce. Veggie medley cooked in skillet with olive oil and butter. Asparagus, leeks, corn off the cob.

    Leftover linguine dish tonight.

What a pleasure last night to sleep with the bedroom window open. Temperature down in the 50's during the early morning hours. High in the 70's today but heat returning tomorrow. A reminder of what summer in MN was like in former summers.

We caught a break today in NW Houston. Temperature only got to 104 degrees. EEEK. Needless to say, I'm not working outside, although I did water my hanging baskets this morning.

Dinner was 2 avocados and tuna salad.

I left the house for the first time since DH died. ugh….we shall see what my DEXA scan shows. Can't be good, LOL. We hit 83 here but 90s in town (10 minutes in)…cool down tomorrow. I'm ready for fall.

I had melted cheese over corn chips and some peanuts. Lots of wine. ugh…I'm dreading my labs in October, LOL.

Reader, Good to hear from you. For Sour Cream and Onion Chicken I use 1/2 cup sherry, 1/2 tsp chicken bullion, no broth and cook the dish for about half an hour at the end to get rid of the sulfites (migraine trigger.) Here is the recipe as I found it online.

    2 TBSP olive oil divided/ 1 lb chicken cutlets/ 1/2 tsp salt/1/2 tsp pepper/ 1.5 cups halved and thinly sliced onion/ 1/4 cup sherry/ 1/2 cup sour cream/ 1/4 cup chicken broth/ basil fresh or dried

    1. Heat 1 TBSP EVOO in large skillet over medium heat. Sprinkle chicken with 1/4 tsp each salt and pepper. Cook turning once until browned (165*F) about 6 minutes. Transfer to plate and cover to keep warm.
    2. Add remaining 1 TBSP EVOO, onions, rest of salt and pepper to pan. Cook stirring until starts to brown about 4 min. Add sherry and stir to scrape up brown bits. Whisk sour cream and broth together, add to pan and stir, add chicken back to pan. Sprinkle with basil. Cook for about 5 min.

Carole, How nice to have comfortable sleeping weather. It has been rainy here but no smoke. Summers recently have been much warmer than they used to be.

Wally, I hope your DEXA scan results are good enough.

    Dinner tonight was mushroom ravioli.

July 20…we had a tornado. It was about 1-1/2 mile from here and headed away from us so we had no damage. The tornado headed toward town and the town sustained some flooding, power outages and many downed trees. All of this is probably why the power was out the last time. The main (only) road into town was blocked for several hours due to flooding, downed trees and downed power lines. Fortunately we were at home and had no plans to go into town.

Today it rained ****HARD**** enough that visibility was under 100 yards for 30-40 minutes. The road out front is a mud bog.

On the bright side, I can turn off the garden's automatic watering system off for a few days.

It looks like another storm cell is inbound.

Love this idea for a thread! That "sounds good" response from husbands is so relatable—no matter what you plan, even if it's just cereal or leftovers!

Tonight we're keeping it simple with grilled chicken, roasted veggies, and a side salad. Some nights it's a elaborate meal, but on busy weekdays, quick and comfort food is the way to go.

It's always nice sharing dinner ideas and managing daily household routines together. Speaking of keeping track of daily home management and utility checks, resources like https://lescobillcheck.pk/ can also come in handy for quick reference.

Looking forward to seeing what everyone else is cooking up tonight!
