Happy Birthday, TT. Hope you had a fantastic day! For what it's worth, I retired a year before my DH & I highly recommend it. I was able to figure out a schedule that worked for me & then he just had to fit in when he retired. Ha!
We have been at the lakes for a couple days with our best couple friends, The weather was lovely! I did a lot of walking, reading, eating & visitin.g

What a wonderful couple of days you had, Ruth!
Dh did most of the childcare today with little baby. This morning I met a friend for a short walk. We mainly caught up on life as it had been a long time since we had gotten together to walk. Then this afternoon I exercised my brain by playing Mahjong with friends. Less talking this time so we were able to play many games.

Got to the gym Thursday evening and Friday noon…that makes 5 times this week. Going to miss my regular Sunday evening class as DH and I will go to the 3pm showing of the Odyssey. I can't handle the 6:30/7pm showings for a 3-hr movie — too late for me!
In next post, I'm sharing a bobble-head of me! One of my 20+ year work friends took a picture from graduation (me in my academic regalia - the copper at the neck is form economics) and sent it off to make a personal bobblehead of me for my b'day. I love it! The back side even had my crazy curly hair. The second is me, mom and sis on my b'day!

I LOVE the Bobblehead! And the family picture too!
I had some paperwork that I absolutely had to get done TODAY, so didn't get a walk in until 3pm (after it was done).

TT: OMG! Your Bogglehead is amazing! What a fantastic gift! Beautiful picture of you with your mom and sister.
Saturday I pulled up my volunteer pumpkin patch. Hated to see it go but parts of it were drying up plus it was really hard to get in the house. It produced 9 Blanco pumpkins. I painted one with a happy face for my friend's young granddaughter. Not sure what I'll do with the others. It's weird having pumpkins in August lol.
Today I volunteered at my church's clothing closet for a couple of hours. It's only opened on Mondays for 2 hours. We can't keep men tee shirts. I brought 2 short sleeve and 3 long sleeve tees that were dh's and they were taken within 10 minutes. Unpacked a few donated men tees that normally I would discard due to too many stains or holes but decided to put them out bc of the demand. They were all taken. The last bag of donated clothes I unpacked was full of nice dresses and evening gowns. You never know what you'll find in a bag!
The heat and humidity are beasts again. This week the feel-like temps will be 100+. So, I'm taking it easy for the next several days.
One last picture of my pumpkin patch. This one was taken 3 weeks ago.

My Book Club (of 28 years) took our annual field trip and (of course) ended up at a Barnes & Noble!

Strength & Core on Monday, Tai Chi today.
This week is a little off normal schedule with getting prepared for school to start on Monday…meeting with financial advisor later today to discuss retiring and still paying bills 😀

Yikes to school starting! My friends who are still teaching start Monday too.
One of our WWW ladies, whose birthday was yesterday, is having some health issues; so we walked in her neighborhood & then brought her a cake, sang happy birthday, and visited with her for awhile.

Ruth: So sorry about your friend having health problems. I'm sure she was delighted that all of you helped her celebrate her birthday by bringing the party to her.
TT: Enjoy your last few days before school. Hopefully your advisor has some good news for you.
I've been sitting too much. Last night I was on a zoom meeting for 1.5 hours. Sat a lot with little baby today. Then I had another 1.5 zoom meeting this evening. Luckily I was able to get my fast walk in before that meeting. Plus, we've had thunderstorms that pop up due to the heat and humidity which has stopped me from walking when I had the time to do it.

Had a new Tai Chi (substitute) instructor…very good, hope to see him again.
My financial advisor said RETIRE! 😀 We can make it work financially, I do still feel guilty retiring while DH still works and we still have financial commitments for my mother…no surprise, but her SSI does not fully cover assisted living expenses by several thousand a month! Yikes!!! But even with that extra bill each month, we can do it.
Nice picture Ruth and what a nice way to help celebrate her b'day.
Today is my brother's birthday…he died at 50 (sudden/surprise heart attack), would have been 68 today. Mom was a bit out of sorts today…I had lunch with her and while she didn't mention Mark, something was wrong…she will probably put her finger on it sometime today, but I didn't push the idea.
Getting my papers together at school to teach Monday morning…TT

I am so sorry about your brother, TT. That's not something you ever get over. Retire when you can. You will NOT regret it!!!
I went to HIT this morning, dog walking, have gotten a lot of things off my list around here & will go back to Dance2fit in a little while.

Hope everyone is having a nice weekend. Yesterday I took 2 dog walks & cleaned the house. Today was 2 dog walks & an hour of toning with workouts I found online.

TT: I'm so sorry about your brother. I can fully understand why your mom would feel out of sorts.
How exciting that your advisor has given you the ok to retire! I'm sure it's freeing to know that you have that option now. Good luck tomorrow!
Ruth: I hope Bruno realizes how lucky he is to have you.
Ds and granddaughter are here for the weekend. They will leave sometime tomorrow. I've been busy planning and cooking meals. Dd, sil, and little baby came over for a cookout today. Dh grilled hamburgers and hotdogs in the 95 degree heat (luckily he was in the shade). I had another 2 hour zoom meeting. The house is quiet now as ds and gd are visiting cousins. The calm before the storm lol

Hi Everyone
Well, my mother did indeed remember it was my brother's b'day. My sister was with her at dinnertime and mom was writing a card to Mark and asking my sister why we had lost Mark's phone number, that we should call him, but she had written this b'day message. My sister said, Mark's gone and mom remembered and sadness filled the day. He was the first born, only son, etc.etc.
I went to my usual Sunday evening class and two members (neighbors) were no shows…got home to find out as I was cooking dinner that my Tai Chi teacher died on Friday night. He had been our instructor for 5+ years until 2-3 months ago when diagnosed with Parkinson's. His wife and next door neighbor come to the Sunday evening class…Prayers for Richard and family…and another reminder to me to retire! When Richard was diagnosed with Parkinson's just a couple of months ago, the Dr said, you are 80, you won't have to worry about the twitching/jerking of Parkinson's until you are 90. We all breathed a sigh of relief…but then life changes on a dime.
Tomorrow school start for me…January retirement seems like the answer.
Hold your family close, TT

Oh my goodness, T! What a shock to you to find out about Richard and I am so sorry. I know he was a special person to you and a huge inspiration. ❤️
I'm glad your sister was with your mother and was able to tell her about your brother and give her comfort.
January sounds like a good plan.

Oh TT, I am so sorry about your teacher. What a sad shock for all. Sending a hug your way.
A beautiful, relaxing day here. Yoga was my only exercise type activity. Bruno has been napping all day today. Saturday must have worn him out. We had a long running through the fields romp with his girlfriend in the morning & we all invited over to dinner at DS's house last night, so he played like crazy with the 4 grandpuppies and TRIED to leave the cat alone (which was hard because she taunts him just to get him in trouble!).

A fun walk with our doggie friend, a dentist appointment, bought tickets to Arizona in February & CORE.

Got to Tai Chi at lunch…wow, that was one said group of exercisers, but we dedicated our practice to Richard.
Sunday/Wednesday will be it for me this week and gym time…opening week of school and all normal schedules are tossed out.

It's the first day of school here, which means it's the 14th Anniversary of the Wednesday Walking Women. Six retired teachers took a walk that morning & the rest is history!

mammogram this morning, just got my BIRADS 1 result woohoo…the two hours between the imaging and the results are always hard at some level…glad I had a class to teach in between.
Great WWW picture, 14 years!

Yea, on the results TT! I don't think you ever get over the worry.
HIT this morning & Dance2fit tonight. A friend of mine had a terrible fall & ended up in a nursing home for rehab (hopefully she can get home in about 2 weeks). I went over & visited her, and am now hanging with the grandpuppies (DS & DIL are both out of town so I let them out at noon). Bruno's girlfriend is on her way back to Arizona, which is sad because they have so much fun together.

TT: Congratulations on BIRADS 1! Hope your 1st week back to school has been productive.
Ruth: Hard to believe WWW started 14 years ago. Sorry about your friend. Falls are so scary! Hope she recuperates nicely. Bruno will definitely miss his gf.
I haven't done much this week except take care of little baby. It's been so hot. Finally yesterday we had a break from highs in the 90s and dew points in the 70s. I walked yesterday and today.
My big news is that dd found out that she will be having a GIRL! She told us by bringing over a box of donuts and one of them had pink icing. I'm so excited for them!

Did a little cleaning and organizing, quick trip to the grocery store, put the garbage out for tomorrow and sat down with my furbabies to trim their nails.

Congratulations on a new granddaughter, Wonderland!! The weather has been so disturbingly extreme all over the country. We are dry as a bone; but last night a town in the northern part of the state got 9 inches of rain!! You can imagine the mess that made!
I'm going to HIT & Dance2fit tonight.
