Bryce Canyon sunset point near my lodge 8-2026.jpg

Thank you all for the warm welcome. I really appreciated all of the prayers as driving was especially nerve racking in and around Salt Lake City. I was so totally wiped out yesterday that I had to miss my Bible Study and was dozing off and on all day. My bags are still not unpacked. These are a couple of pics from my cellphone. I haven't uploaded my pics from my big camera so time will tell. They always say that photographs are to tell a story. I don't know if the magnificence I felt comes through but truly it was just that. It was actually 12 1/2 yrs ago that Lisa from So Cal (on BCO) who was a great photographer shared some Bryce Canyon photos and from that point on I wanted to go there myself. The hoodoos are like nothing I have ever seen in the US or for that matter the world. I am so blessed to be able to travel at 75 with the issues that I have recently had but the Lord kept me throughout the whole adventure.

Chris, I am sorry to hear of your chemo day that you thought was going to be an easy affair. My day back on Monday was like that. We push forward with the Lord's help and look back and think how did I ever get through that. I do hope you are feeling the good days now after your infusion. When I hear of your sorrow concerning your grandchildren I can only imagin how that was heartbreaking to you. I am glad you have had your granddaughter now to give you hugs and know how special you are.

Cheryl, I am glad that your granddaughter finally was able to cuddle up with you in the end. I am so glad you are finished with radiation treatments now.

Hershey, how has your temps been where you are. SLC was so hot when I first arrived. I finally got to experience what dry heat feels like. It was just plain hot and I had to carry my 40 0z Stanley cup with me everywhere I went. You probably laughed at me being surprised with the open range for the animals and about almost hitting a cow. After googling it, it sounds like there are several states out West that have that same thing. The thing about driving in rural Utah besides all of the sharp curves is they had beautiful wildflowers in big bushes right up against the road and you could not always see the cows. I can' t imagine at night how in the world the people do that with deer and sheep and cows. I can see how it feels like the Wild West.

Wheatfields, how are you doing. My sister is starting to have "issues" and it breaks my heart. She still hasn't responded to my text that I got home. Her daughter, my niece, has been traveling solo for three weeks throughout New Mexico. Doing some tent camping in CO right now on her way home to Iowa so I know my sister is concerned for her too. I have not said a word about my suspicions to my niece but the fact she has made several trips to see my sister and her husband in IL tells me a lot. How is your leg doing? I hope better.

Teka, I am a bit worried about you. You usually tell me when you are taking a break from the forum but you didn't do that this time. I hope it is just that you are enjoying the end of summer and enjoying eating at your favorite diner with your DH.

I need to go pick up my organic chicken I order every week from Whole Foods and get some grocery shopping in. Now back to healthy eating. My plans completely changed when I had to switch hotels because of the wildfires in Utah that affected the hotel I was to stay at. I had it all planned out to go to their Market and then buy a cheap cooler and get my veggies for my salads and smoothies but none of that worked out with my hotel change and the long drive from SLC to Bryce Canyon. Some days I existed on protein bars and not healthy foods. So now back to my more healthy regimen.

I am not proof reading this so sorry for any errors. I have to eat a protein bar (LOL) for breakfast and go to Whole Foods.

    Love,

    Nancy

  • Chris, what a long and frustrating experience for you with the lab and hospital. Pastor John has recounted similar experiences at his cancer center: various delays in treatments, miscommunications between providers, appointment cancellations, etc. Not sure if these situations are results of lack of training, staffing shortages, or something else, but small annoyances can quickly add up to stressful situations for patients. I'm praying that your subsequent infusions proceed without any glitches.

  • Nancy, what fun photos! I can see how much you enjoy the scenery and am glad that your trip was so worthwhile. Now tell me, when do you leave on your next adventure?! :-)

I too am concerned about Teka's absence from our group. I hope that all is well and she's just taking a break from social media. I also hope that you hear from your sister and that she is okay.

Our temperatures are still high for mid- to late-August. We could have really used some of Utah's monsoon moisture. We may receive some showers this weekend but still too soon to tell. I am so ready for autumn!

  • Nancy,

Pleased you were able to have an adventure of a lifetime.

I'll be looking forward to seeing many pics.

August has been a blur for tick magnet me. The deer finally got me! ☹️

I was admitted to the hospital because I had a serious infection from tick-borne illnesses (septic shock from babesiosis and Lyme disease). While I were in the hospital, I needed fluids and medicine to help my blood pressure. I got antibiotics to treat the infections. My blood counts are still low, but they are now stable.

I returned home with the following new medicines.

Doxycycline: for babesiosis and Lyme disease

Azithromycin: for babesiosis and Lyme disease

    Atovaquone: for babesiosis

I had a follow-up appointment with my PCP. Receiving excellent care.

Daily, gaining strength and balance. Weaning off a walker.

Appetite has been 🤪. Tomorrow, husband serving-up Dungeness crab for dinner. 😋

I pray one and all are blessed with less stress and suffering. 🙏

  • Nancy, all I can say is WOW! 😊

Praying for all of you! 🙏

  • Hi Teka,

I am so sorry to hear what all you have gone through. You are on enough meds to hopefully knock out the parasites. I had to look up babesiosis as I had never heard of that. My niece several years ago was diagnosed with Lyme Disease. She noticed the classic bullseye rash and got in immediately to her pcp. She has done well all these years later. In fact she is on a 3 week vacation through New Mexico and now tent camping in Colorado on her way home to Iowa. Because they caught hers so early she has faired very well and has always been pretty high energy. She is 57 yrs old. I pray that you will be able to gain strength and that your meds will knock out the sickness you have had. I didn't have my laptop with me my whole vacation so I am just now catching up on things. I thought maybe you were just taking a break but you usually tell me when you are doing that so I was getting concerned about you. I am glad you have posted but I sure am sorry to hear of your hosptial stay and knowing how sick you have been. I will pray that you will not suffer any longterm affects and that your appetite will come back. I know the ladies here will pray for you and your recovery as will I.

Hershey, I have already been thinking about a trip to Florida during the winter as I really don't like the darkness and cold of winter. I am not sure if I would venture driving all the way down or not. My car which still looks like new is now 11 yrs old but not many miles. My experience with the wheelchair assistance when flying was less than stellar overall. Chicago was okay but still I had to reach out for help when someone was supposed to be coming to help me preboard and never came. In Salt Lake City airport it was pretty much a nightmare. My car rental which was off site had a shuttle which dropped me off with all of my luggage on an outside bench in the heat. I was dressed for the cold air on the plane and had on long pants and a long sleeved top. He told me to call the number on the sign for wheelchair assistance. I was very early as I had to check out of my hotel at 11 am and my flight was not until 4:15. I emptied my water bottle after driving from my hotel to the rental place. My Google Maps lost connection and I was in a slight panic as I didn't know what to do and it looked like if I kept going I would end up on a highway for miles. I finally got my connection back and dropped off my rental. At this point I was getting thirsty. So when the shuttle dropped me off I couldn't go anyplace because I had three heavy rolling bags plus my heavy backpack. Plus I didn't dare just leave them unattended. I called two different times and the young lady I talked to had no idea where I was and neither did I to help explain. Finally I snagged a worker her made a call for me and at this point I was so thirsty I didn't know what was going to happen next. The worker left. I waited for 45 min before someone came for me. Finally a 17 yr old kid came who was the coordinator of the wheelchair assistance. He profusely apologized but that didn't help the fact I still needed water and a restroom. So with all of that said I would not have been able to manage all of my luggage through very long stretches inside the terminals but am not too confident in the system either. I think because I was so early getting to the airport that threw them off. They kept asking me to spell my name which didn't give me a lot of confidence. I sat in this very uncomfortable wheelchair for at least four hours. I am still having back pain and I think that is part of the reason plus the flight home. So as a very long answer to your question I would love to shoot some Florida wildlife in the winter. So time will tell. I bet you will be glad to see the autumn come. I can see why now.

Cheryl, I wish you all could see these hoodoos in person. They really do seem like people. The folklore is that the Native Indians living in the area believed in a Coyote God which they believed was not happy with the outsiders who carelessly depleted the resources of the land. As a punishment this God turned all of these outsider people into stone. They really do seem like groups of people when I would just take time to scour the whole panoramic view. Most of the people I encountered were from other countries and it was interesting watching them see the hoodoos for the first time. So your WOW was exactly what I was thinking when I would see these amazing views. The weather was not as cooperative as I would like to get either early or late pictures where the red rocks color would pop but I was still glad to get what I did in between all the rain.

Chris, I hope you are feeling better.

Wheatfields, I just saw an interview with Katy Couric and a doctor who has possibly made a legendary breakthrough in treating dementia. His experiment with mice was amazing. Actually the natural meds he talked about is something I took for years with my alternative doctor called Lithium Oratate. Not the same as the drug for bipolar. What I took was a mineral of sorts. If you can find it on YouTube I found it fascinating.

Have a good night dear sisters.

    Love,

    Nancy

  • Nancy, wow is right. I used wheelchair assistance every time I flew but only inside the terminal to the gate and plane and then on return to the luggage and outside to the shuttle area. I have never had a problem but I am an early person by nature and usually get a little antsy waiting for them as I believe if you are not early, you are late. lol I doubt I will ever fly again because I am mostly homebound and my DH won't fly again. Without him, I would be lost. I am so happy you took your trip and are planning another one. I have done extensive travelling in my life so I don't feel like I have missed out. There are lots of places I haven't visited, but that's okay at this point. The only place I really want to visit is to see my kids and grandkids, but that's not going to happen either.

My broken leg is healing very well. I am weaning off the walker although I still wear a brace during the day. It will slowly come off too as per doctor's permission. My chemo SEs are starting to kick in tonight so I will close.

Know I pray for each of the wonderful ladies on this forum as you post—I just don't always respond.

    Blessings, Chris

  • Chris, I am glad your leg is healing very well. I was also glad that your tests did not show anything wrong with your bones. Apparently you fell really hard. I hope you will be able to get that brace off soon.

My friends my age who have done extensive traveling don't have any interest in traveling now. For me the window of opportunity is closing quickly and I do feel like I have missed out but I am so thankful I was able to make this dream trip a reality. I am not officially planning my next trip. I am still exhausted from this one. On my flight back to Chicago a lady was wheeled in her wheelchair directy across from me. She was not very friendly at all but her daughter was very helpful for me. She checked on preboarding for both her mom and me. I think at SLC they were understaffed. I could tell by the conversations of one of my assistants with other workers . He also told me he was sick.

On a whole other subject I had signed up for economy plus and before I could pick my seating I had to pay through Expedia. When I got back to the airline page there was no place to pick my seat. The airlines picked window seats for me in both flight so I was pleased with that not understanding that it was basic economy. I didn't find out until the last few minutes of a very claustrophobic flight that I was placed in basic economy even though I had paid for the upgrade. I also didn't know until the last few minutes how the seats can go back a little. It was a very uncomfortable flight for my first time in 55 yrs. Coming back home I was able to get my seat back a little bit and enough to not feel like I was going into a claustrophobia panic. Also there was no one seated right next to me which helped.

I don't blame you for not wanting to fly anymore since you have already done a lot of traveling. My first trip was so very complicated for my first time in years. I realized that early on but I really wanted to go to Bryce Canyon. If I do decide to go to Florida I think it would be a much easier trip but one never knows.

I will be praying for you as your SE's kick in.

    Love,

    Nancy

  • Nancy, welcome home and thank you for sharing a couple beautiful photos! We are looking forward to seeing more. I'm so glad you are safely at home and that everything went well overall. I'm sorry about the wheelchair deal which I thought would be a good idea in both Chicago and Salt Lake City airports. I've traveled quite a bit and we lived close to Montana and Wyoming and of course the Black Hills but those hoodoos you saw are especially beautiful and unique.

Chris, I'm sorry that the chemo day didn't turn out well at all and will be praying for continued healing and very minimal side effects. Oh, I thought of you during that UTI, and I'm done with my antibiotics and think it is gone. So happy you have your little granddaughter right there to give you hugs and lots of love!

Hershey, hopefully it begins to cool down and not be so hot there.

Teka, I'm so sorry for all you have been through, I was really hoping you were on a resting break! We will be praying for your healing and strength and encouragement.

Cheryl, so glad you are through with radiation!

    Praying for all of you!

    Love, Wheatfields

  • Hi dear sisters,

I have been so wiped out most of the week that yesterday I finally got my bags unpacked and laundry washed. On Thursday I decided to drop everything and go to the Butterfly House which I hadn't been to all year. The weather has to be just right or it is like a sauna to me. On my way home I stopped at this famous dairy in these parts. I used to live near one many years ago. I went in and asked if they still had the turtle sundae. Oh my. It was so good. I don't think I had one of those in over 35 yrs. Now my vacation is officially over and back to the eating healthy again.

I bought three different flavors of chapstick and do you think I can find them? Obviously they never made it into my suitcase but I had some mini vaseline jars which helped my dry lips. I will find them some day🙄

I hope to get to my pictures this weekend. In the mean time it is that time of year for the sunflower fields to open around here. I thought I would post this pic as a reminder that sunny days are ahead….in more ways that one.

    Have a great weekend.

    Love,

    Nancy

  • Teka, how are you feeling? Praying that you will get your strength back so you can enjoy the fall coming soon.

Chris, how are your SE's ?

I am praying for all of you.

    Love,

    Nancy

  • Hi everyone,

I hope you had a good weekend. I have still been pretty wiped out so after returning to church I came home a slept most of the afternoon.

Some of you might remember Teri who actually doesn't live too far from me in Naperville but I have never met her in person. She has had many health problems. I sent her an animated birthday card a few days and she sent me a thank you note which I will share with you as some of you may remember her. She has been in stage 4 cancer for many, many years. I copied her thank you note to me as she has mentioned our group.

I am still in touch with some of the ladies from our forum. It is amazing how fast time flies. Teri is one of those ladies.

Her response is in bold type.

Hi Nancy, thank you for the birthday wishes. So sorry to hear about your surgeries and hope things are good now. I also had some problems. After a fall I ended up in a nursing home for recovery and some PT for about 6 weeks. I’m home now but still have lots of back pain and use a walker. I hope to get rid of the walker but will have to do some more therapy.
Your trip sounds great and I’m sure you must have lots of great pictures.
Well say hello to the group. I think of you and them often.
I do have some good news. We have had three great grandchildren in the past 10 months from our three daughters. Two girls and a boy, all are healthy and growing fast. God is good!
    Take care, Teri
P.S.my birthday was very low key. I can’t believe I’m now 86. Life is going too fast.

  • Hi everyone. This forum has been so quiet I had to check to make sure I still had it bookmarked!

Nancy, I hope you have recovered now and are happily working on your pictures.

Shanagirl, how are you doing? Have the lingering effects of the pneumia lessened? I am praying for you!

Teka, have you recovered from your tick episode? That is not anything I have ever had to live through although I did live in TN for 3 1/2 years. My DD and I naively walked some unknown paths looking for some old cemetaries and Civil War sites as a hobby during that time with no ill effects. We found some interesting things including the gravestone of Jack Daniels.

Cheryl, how are you feeling from all of your radiation treatments? I hope you have no residual effects.

I know I am missing people who regularly post here: hersheykiss, irishlove, wheatfields, and others… You all are special to me as you help me feel more connected to my world. I have had a rough week for a week off chemo, but I am recovering now. I realize there are a lot of people praying for me and trying to keep me alive and I want to honor their care and love. God has graciously blessed me with many friends including you all.

    Blessings, Chris

  • HI Chris,

I'm sorry you had a a rough week. I hope you have some good days to come soon. Did you happen to see my post from Teri. I can't remember her username but she was a stage 4 breast cancer survivor and is now 86. She lives in my same city but we never met in person. She was on our forum quite a few years ago so I think some of you would know her.

I am doing okay. I still have had quite a bit of back pain and am very slowly getting things unpacked and washed. I am going to tackle some cleaning today. I spent over the course of three days doing a get rid of weed fest in my yard. Oh my goodness. I was terribly embarassed how things in 10 days grew so high and we had so much rain too. I got rid of most of them.

My landscaper that I reached out to at the beginning of the season kept asking are you still needing my help. I would say yes and then not hear from her. One day last week she said she had openings in Sept. if I was interested. That is what prompted me to get outside and get rid of the weeds which is what I wanted her to do besides mulching. Then two nights ago she said she had openings in Sept and Oct. I finally pushed back and said I had spent a lot of time weeding knowing she had just said she had openings in Sept. I said honestly Oct is a bit late for me. That got a quick response. She said tell me when you want me to come. We decided on Sept. 12 but no mention of what time, where I live (even though I think I already gave her that info). So I really hope she follows through. She is supposed to be very good with rave reviews. Our neighborhood landscapers don't deal with weed inside our garden beds. They only mulch our parkway and entrance trees.

We have a landscaping company and it has been a very tough year for me since that is my job as liason for our HOA. I sent a scathing email to the branch administrator yesterday. They had not mowed in a very long time. The crew is here today after we thought they were coming yesterday. That has been really stressful. I am looking already for new companies as their three year contract is up We have had them for 5 yrs and the last few have been a struggle. So much for getting back from vacation!!! It was great while it lasted. No thought of politics, HOA duties or any of that stuff. Just soaking in the beauty of nature that I had never seen before. I got my pictures in my computer and transfered some software that I will use to edit so I am barely to the point of sharing anymore pics but will hopefully have some soon. My initial run through on them I was very pleased how they looked on the computer. You never know until you see then on a bigger screen.

    I am praying for you.

Teka, I have been praying for a full recovery for you. I hope we hear from you soon.

    Love,

    Nancy

  • Hi Chris,

I hope you’ll start feeling better soon.

I’m doing pretty well now that the radiation is finished. I saw my RO on Thursday and she said my skin is almost back to normal. 🙏 I have been having some pain from the sentinel node site, though. Of course that started after my doctor’s appointments. I’m assuming it’s just from those nerves coming back, although if it continues I’ll contact my SO. Monday will start my 3rd week on the Letrozole and Kisqali. So far the side effects seem to be pretty minimal. We’ll see if that continues or if they get worse.

My husband and I cleaned today, too. He does all the sweeping and I do the dusting. You would think dusting would be easier but that stooping and bending to get low shelves has my back acting up. We also spent an afternoon this past week cleaning countertops, stove and microwave. Everything had been prettty much neglected during the radiation weeks. It’s supposed to get really hot and humid again so that might mean we can back off on the mowing a little.

We had some slightly better weather this past week so my daughter and I have been taking the dogs for walks. That’s good for all of us. I haven’t taken them to daycare lately so they need that outlet for all the energy. Right now they’re both sleeping beside me like perfect little angels. Boy, how looks are deceiving. 😉

Nancy, sorry about all of your HOA problems. Hoping that they can get sorted out soon.

Praying for you all and hoping you have a good weekend. 🙏

  • Hi Chris, I thought too, it had been very quiet here. I'm sorry to hear you had not been feeling well at all. Praying that you will find relief from the side effects and feel better this week.

Nancy, I'm praying that all your HOA duties start to straighten out and are less cumbersome. Also praying that you continue to rest up after your travels! Looking forward to seeing some of your pictures.

Teka, continued prayers for your healing and recovery.

Cheryl, praying that you continue to have minimal side effects or even none at all.

Hershey, praying that you are keeping cool and safe.

My nurse friend still has issues with trying to get some sleep. We did go to the new primary care with a specialty in geriatrics. She seemed very pleasant but was talking about setting up an app on your phone that could guide you in getting a good night sleep and keeping a log of what you eat and how your body seems to respond to certain foods. All of that sounded like too much for my friend who isn't into iPhones and computer stuff, or even keeping a log. My sister sounds more content in memory care but is sleeping a lot more, and is quite confused at times. My leg is doing pretty well and I'm done with PT but have to admit I haven't been doing the exercises that I should be. I'll do my back exercises that I've always done and walk about 3 miles a day but should be also doing balance exercises and the core and quad strengthening ones. I've been having some trouble with my stomach which was diagnosed years ago as dyspepsia. Although it usually seems like fall and spring are the times it crops up more so. Thank you all for your prayers.

    Praying for all of you.

    Love, Wheatfields

  • Hi dear sisters,

I have still been dealing with fatigue. I finally got my suitcases upstairs and emptied and actually got a little cleaning and straighting up the last couple of days. My upstairs is a nightmare for the moment. I was so tired when I got up this morning that I was trying to remember my pin number to check my messages on my landline phone and I ended up dialing 911 by accident. When I saw the numbers on my phone I panicked and just hung up really fast. Of course that prompted not only an email from the police dept but a phone call from the city wanting to know if I was okay. I profusely apologized and said I was fine and just put in the wrong pin number. Oh my goodness. If I hadn't picked up the phone from the City I could see paramedics at my doorstep.

Cheryl, I am glad you are doing well on your meds and getting back to some sense of normalcy. I hope you continue to do well and that some of these pains will go away. I do remember just now driving after everything was over and having some shooting pains thrrough my surgery breast. I think that is probably normal.

Chris, how are you feeling? I sure hope you are doing better these last few days. Has your DGD started back to school now? I was thinking she did and I remarked how early they started but I am so tired tonight I don't trust my memory right now. It has been a stressful last few days. Tonight I decided to get carry out and when I was driving into my garage I got a call from another HOA board member. When I called her it was obvious she had been crying. It has just been a crazy time trying to get our driveways sealcoated. We had a rain delay and then late we found mine and all the other odd numbered addresses would be pushed back until Thurday. That day there is a 60% chance of rain and hail. I felt like I was talking this lady off the edge. She was beyond worn out and had just had it. So it has been crazy. I have just barely begun to have a chance to go through my photos. I am using a new software which is more complicated that I figured. I may attach a few pics.

Wheatfields, I am sorry to hear about your stomach issues. I have a history of colon issues but haven't had a lot of trouble in a very long time until recently. I know for me it is stress of dealing with our landscaping company. I am sorry to hear about your sister. I know my sister is having some issues and I am not sure what to do about it yet. I need to have a heart to heart talk with my niece and I am not sure if she knows for sure some of the things that are going on. My niece wants me to come and visit soon as my sister and her husband are going to visit her too. So I may end up spending a few days in Iowa. I am impressed by all the miles you walk a day and it sounds like you are doing way more than most our age. It is very difficult to keep up all the exercises. My muscle therapist said it is like the sqeaky wheel getting the grease. Which ever part of our body is telling us to pay attention is where we divert our attention. I did post some pics but I am not sure if you saw those are not. They were from my phone and I may post some tonight from my computer. I'll see which ones are ready.

I heard about the terrible flash flooding that occurred at the Grand Canyon. I know some have died and some are still missing. What a frightening thing to realize how quickly one can be in danger in those type of situations. There was flash flooding at Bryce Canyon when I was there and then I heard about one of the trails being closed because of the flash flood damage after I got home. I had no idea when I was there as I was not going down into the canyon because I knew I may not make it back up. There was no TV in my room so I was not aware of what was going on in the world which was not a bad thing.

Teka, I hope you are doing better. When you can let us know how you are doing?

Hershey, I guess today is for some the beginning of fall. For us it our feel like temps were well over 100. It actually felt worse outside than when it was 100 + in Salt Lake City. I know you were waiting on fall temps. I hope you get them soon and we get some more fall like temps too.

I will send a few pics if I can find the right ones.

    Z72_0086 Bryce Point 8-2026.jpg

I am still in awe of this scenery. I remember one person saying it was just magical when she visited. It really was like you were on another planet seeing all of this dramatic and unusual amphitheater ( is what they call it) of hoodoos that seemingly went on for miles. My camera could never grasp the enormity of it all. I am not into taking videos but I that might be a better way of panning the whole view better.

The first picture ( I think) is the same area where I went out in the complete dark to try to get a picture of the Milky Way. As you can see there are no guard rails and that is similar to where I had my tripod and camera about five feet from a huge drop off into the canyon. I picked that spot because it had a bench to sit on. When I think back on that whole thing I can't believe I actually set up at that place. I did have a red headlamp on but even so when I was sitting on this bench a big gusts of wind would come up and I had to jump up and be sure my tripod and camera didn't go falling over the cliff. At one point my 40 oz Stanley cup full of water blew clear off the bench and staring rolling. You have never seen someone jump up so fast. If my water went over the cliff I would have really been in trouble. I called my insurance company to take out more coverage on my camera equipment and I was joking to the lady that if I fell over a cliff with my camera equipment I guess it would be a moot point!!!! Those words came back to haunt me that night sitting in the dark freezing waiting for the Milky Way to appear which it never did after waitng for 4 hrs. That was my big disappointment of the whole trip but I have so many more day time photos which was the dream photos I had in my mind for years and then became a reality.

    Love,

    Nancy

  • Nancy,

Lovely pics!! Thank You for sharing.

I still only feel up to skimming the prior posts.

  • Teka, so good to hear from you. I'm glad to hear you and H are going to the diner. Wow, losing 22 lbs like that is something. I hope you can get your appetite back and feel like you are getting back to normal. Glad you liked the pics. Praying for a complete recovery,

    Love

    Nancy

  • Nancy, what beautiful pictures as always. You are so talented! I have never been to Bryce Canyon so I am enjoying them even more. I am sorry you are still dealing with fatigue but having HOA issues when you just got home must keep you from truly resting. Scary position near the edge of the canyon, but thankfully all was safe.

Wheatfields, you and I are both dealing with stomach issues. Mine are improving as I have decided I feel better with going a little more on the diarrhea side rather than the constipation side so I have increased my Colace as per my PAs suggestion. I am sure having your sister issues is probably also affecting your stomach…at least that is what stress does to me.

Teka, I am praying you feel better soon.

Yes, my DGD has been back to school since August 3rd. When I ask her about her day she just responds it is tiring. I guess elementary school was so easy for her she didn't expect all the rules and harder work in Middle school. I think it is interesting that her favorite class is home ec although it is a mix of different things. They call it FACTS class. She does a little sewing and we are teaching her how to use a sewing machine at home. Since that was always my thing it makes me happy. She has already made a little purse at home she has given to her FACTS teacher. That shows her giving heart. She doesn't cook until 7th grade. I think since she is in advanced math which is hard, she likes the easier class to provide a break of sorts. She is also now on a competitive gymnastics team which meets three times a week in the evenings for 2 1/2 hours so she has a really full plate. In some ways it is really good for her to have a full schedule. It gives her more structure and keeps her phone use down. Her mom is so good about also providing extra fun activities on the weekends. They are really close although my DD is starting to date a little. This makes me happy but of course adds more stress. She has never shared her boyfriend info with me even as a teenager. When I ask she responds he is just a guy…

I am doing okay although my fatigue has increased and I fought stomach pain all last week so it wasn't really a week off. I used the walker only at the hospital yesterday and walked a lot, but I did well and have no broken leg pain today so I feel like I really am healing well. I had another stressful lab situation where I waited 1 1/2 hours in the lab waiting room. It was crazy! I learned making an appointment was useless as they took people in order of arrival, and it was around noon so we also dealt with lunch breaks for the staff. The lady next to me had been waiting for 3 hours when I arrived! I think next time I may go to a different lab or go in extra early and my DD and I can go out to lunch during the extra time before my chemo. They have changed the scheduling procedure again so I am able to get back to scheduling the use of my port for labs in a few weeks which will get me back to the infusion center and out of the hospitla general lab. Yay! I was late for my chemo appointment. My DH walked down to the center to let them know and they told him it was a common occurance and have me just wait at the lab. They knew I was there. The good news was they took me immediately and were prepared so there was no down time that I usually have waiting for meds to arrive. Still, it took us six hours from the time we left the house until we got back home.

This is long… sorry. Praying everyone has a good day today. Chris

I had chicken quesadillas (4 pieces) for lunch at local diner. I only ate 1 for lunch and 1 for dinner at home. H ate 2 for dinner at home.

    Crispy in an air fryer.

    Tasted good. 😋

    Cheryl,

Also, glad you are finished with radiation treatments.

    Nancy,

    Keep the pics coming!

    hersheykiss,

    Welcome to autumn!

    wheatfields,

I find myself stiffening up if I go a few days without exercising at home. You walk about 3 miles a day. 😯

    Chris,

My favorite class was Home Economics.

  • Chris, thank you. I was so tickled to see one FIFA world cup tourist posted pics of Bryce Canyon on YouTube and he said he had been to many national parks and this one was the best. Since I have not been to many I don't really know but I would be surprised if any looked like Bryce.

I am so sorry that the health care system seems to be working against you instead of for you. I had some blood work done and this week and instead of checking in with a receptionist which usually was very quick I had to register on a kiosk. Maybe easier for the receptionist but would be difficult for the elderly. It took me a few minutes and then I wasn't exactly sure if I was really signed in. I pray that you have a much better week this week. I think this may be one of your good days. I hope it is. Your DGD sounds like quite a young women. Your DD dating? Good for her.

Teka, I am glad you got to eat something that tasted good. I will try to keep the pics coming. One of my friends took the liberty of inviting a couple of other collegues I knew from teaching and basically it looks like I am supposed to share my pics with them. I had no idea this vacation would turn into a travelogue. OH MY!!!!! I have a feeling it may be at my house because I don't think my friend has a TV on her first floor. OH NO!!

I will have to admit home economics was NOT my favorite. Much of it had to do with the old and crabby teacher for one and then the cooking teacher never forgave me for burning their brand new pan when cooking stewed apples. Ooops. I will say after teaching at the middle school level the home ec teachers were much more fun and positive which would make a world of difference, Oh well. Music was always my thing growing up. I guess it is a good thing I am single!!!! LOL I hope each day for you is getting your strength and appetite back.

Have a great weekend everyone. I will probably be gone again for a few days to Iowa next week visiting my niece and my sister and her DH will be there so it will be like a midyear reunion for us.

    Love,

    Nancy

  • Nancy, your photos are so fascinating and beautiful. They make it hard for me to look away! I do not remember Teri but am thankful that she's doing well. I'm sorry that the HOA duties are consuming so much of your time and energy. Here's hoping that some of your responsibilities ease up with the change in seasons.

Chris, that is a very long day spent at the lab and infusion center. I hope that the situation improves for you once you're scheduled in the infusion center only. I haven't thought about my 7th grade Home Ec class in a long time. The teacher was a middle-aged woman who was dating one of the junior high guidance counselors. She was more interested in Mr. Sanders than in teaching us how to sew and cook!

Wheatfields, it's fun to learn that you are a fellow walker! Do you and your nurse friend go to a local club or to the recreation center?

Teka, I'm glad that you are regaining your appetite. That quesadilla looks yummy.

We've been busy with various appointments: dental, vision, labs, ultrasound, oncologist. What started as my routine dental cleaning has turned into replacing three old and failing crowns. The first crown procedure is complete, and the second one is scheduled to begin later this month. I plan to wait until November or even early December to embark on replacing crown #3.

I hope that everyone's Labor Day weekend is a safe and relaxing one.

  • Thank you Hershey, The hoodoos have a magical aura about them. I would get a kick out of someone coming up to a look out point for the first time and hear their reaction. Not only did the Grand Canyon have great flooding but Bryce Canyon also had flash flooding exactly the week after I left to return home. Since I was not hiking the trails like most were I did not have any idea that if you are deep in the canyon how quickly a rainfall can become a deadly situation. I was disappointed that it rained almost every day but I am so thankful I didn't get caught in any flash flooding situation like some did. I saw this rather long video that invovled some adults and two elementary age kids that got caught in a slot canyon at Zion NP. It was so scary. I was wondering if those two young boys had any clue how dangerous this could have become. They all got out in time but it was so frightening to watch in real time. I had studied up on Bryce for so long but I had never heard of the dangers of flash flooding.

I hope you are doing okay. You sound like you have quite a bit on your plate with dental issues and you mentioned an oncologist, I hope everything is okay.

I went out this morning for breakfast with some of our current and past HOA board members. Two of them had the same birthday and one lady was in Florida for mine so they celebrated mine again. I had my usual healhy smoothie breakfast at home knowing I would probably not be eating very healthy food. Then after basically having two breakfasts then the waitress gave the three of us birthday people some ice cream. I haven't been this full for a very long time. On the way home I started to feel very nauseated so I ended up laying down for a good part of the day. I sure hope this is not a bug. I am supposed to be driving to Iowa on Monday and I really don't want to be sick. There is a small chance that I might be able to get a picture of the Milky Way at my nieces as she is in the country on a 100 acrea farm with not a lot of light polution. That would be exciting as she has a nice big pond they made and it would be so neat to get some reflectons of the the stars and the Milky Way in the water, Time will tell.

I have been brainstormiing a trip to Sanibel island in Flordia in the winter. They have some of the best shelling on their beaches plus there is a wildlife refuge center there as well. I was not aware that they are still cleaning up from the hurrican that totally destroyed them about four years ago. That might change things. I definitely want to photograph some of the birds that we don't see here. The alligators ………………………. a whole other situation!!!!

It is late and I have to get to bed. Have a great holiday weekend.

    Love

    Nancy

  • Have a wonderful Labor Day dear sisters. Just a reminder that I will be in Iowa for what I am calling a mid year reunion for my close family. I may be able to photography the Milky Way on Tuesday night as I will be on a 100 acres farm. My last chance for this year.

Take care everyone. I have a long drive so I am hurrying. I got very nauseated on Saturday after we celebrated some friends birthdays. I didn't know I would be celebrated again but as they drove me home I started to get very nauseated. I stayed home from church yesterday and on Saturday just layed down the whole day. I don't know what that was but I would appreciate your prayers that this will not resurface.

Got to run. I will be off the grid again. I hope you all have a wonderful day. Chris, praying you don't have too many SE's.

    Love,

    Nancy
