Good Morning, Loungettes! Today is going to be one lazy day for me and the puppers, especially Colt. Yesterday ayem I let the puppers out for morning potty, put water on for coffee, stepped out on the deck to check the weather, saw Colt with a mouth full of porcupine, shaking his head as hard as he could , quills flying everywhere! That makes the count here now Colt= 0, Zoe = 0, Porcupines = 4. Spent the day at the Emergency Vet. Those poor folks were getting slammed and only had one Vet on duty because the second scheduled Vet and the back-up Vet were both out sick. It took an hour and 15 minutes to get all the quills out of Colt's face, mouth, tongue, right ear, and chest. The big gulp was handing over the credit card to prepay the $2688 estimate. The high point, 7 hours later was the $704 refund for overpayment when the bill wasn't as big as expected. Poor Colt is wiped out and just moving back and forth between the rocking chair and the bid lounging chair alternating nap spaces.
mOmmy--wow, what a roller coaster between getting laid off and looking for work and getting called back while all the chaos was going on. Your Stepdad seeing that raid must have made an impression. I remember how everything went quiet when a new update was came on the TV or radio. It was eerie.
Miriandra--it must have been difficult to be oversesas during the 9/11 thing. Coming home to that much of a security increase would have had me terrified, that's for sure. Did they tell you anything at all while you were going through security? The change in the neighborhood just outside the base is really interesting. Something good really can come out of just about every bad event.

Boozy Porcupine Cocktail
Ingredients
2 cup unsweetened pineapple juice
2 rosemary sprigs, 3 inches long
4 12 ounce bottles of pale ale
750 mg sparking white wine, chilled
Pineapple wedges
Fresh rosemary sprigsDirections
1. In a saucepan combine pineapple juice, 2 sprigs of rosemary. Bring to a boil and simmer for 15 minutes.
2. Strain juice into a bowl. Cover and chill. In another bowl combine the strained juice, beer, and wine.

No, they just waved us through. I think they were too focused on checking everything and didn't want to spend time with explanations.
We had a few interesting experiences in our housing complex. It was completely walled off, with only two entrances - one that admitted cars and people, and one that was only allowed walk-ins. There was also a little shopette on our side of the wall near the walk-in gate to cater to the Americans. Since military property is considered territory of the affiliated country, our shopette had American goods available at American prices without the tariffs and import fees that a Korean shop would be able to offer. Including alcohol, which had very steep import fees.
A little popup coffee shop opened up not far from the walk-in gate against the wall on the Korean side. It had weird hours, and was rarely open. Everyone just assumed it was someone trying to start a business and failing miserably. Turned out, it was a front for a smuggling operation. One (or a few, they never released all the details) of the shopette employees was "buying" bottles of alcohol from the shopette and moving them to the "coffee shop" through a tunnel under the wall! Then they sold the smuggled bottles for enormous markups, converted the won to dollars, and repeated the process. I don't know if they started to get greedy and were caught in an audit, or if someone finally took a hard look at the weird little coffee shop and found the tunnel, but they were finally discovered and arrested.

Poor Colt. What an unfortunate experience for both of you. My mouth dropped open at the mention of the cost.
We have been enjoying Old Fashioneds the last few nights since the weather turned cold at night. Night before last, the low temperature was 39 degrees.

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Hump Day! Waking up to another chilly morning. I love this time of year, cool enough at night for really good sleeping, still warm enough in the afternoons to sit out on the deck. Tomorrow I'm picking up one of Mom's friends, then pinking Mom up and we are all going to have lunch at the lobster shack another of Mom's friends owns and runs. Probably the last lobster shack lunch of this summer. It's supposed to be rainy tomorrow. I'm hoping it will at least be fairly warm. There's a screened in eating area there, so as long as it's warm enough for Mom to be comfortable we'll be good!
Miriandra--if there was a line of cars waiting to get in I can see why they wouldn't want to spend time on explanations. The shopette sounds like a really nice thing to have had. Love the smuggling story! Goes to show that people don't always think things through. I would seem obvious that a coffee shop without regular hours would be something people (and eventually authorities) would notice
Carole--Poor Colt, indeed. As of yesterday ayem Colt is back to his usual self and is taking advantage of the situation. The left side of his face is still slightly swollen, every so often he comes up to me and pointed presents the left side of his face and gives me his "time for a treat" woof. That estimate made me gulp a little bit, too, when I saw it. I'm glad they estimate high and refund the difference immediately. Makes for scary looking entries on the credit card transaction list, though.
Caribbean Smuggler Cocktail
Ingredients
• 3/4 oz Dark Rum
• .5 oz Triple Sec
• 1 oz Orange Juice
• 1 oz Margarita Mix
• .5 oz Sugar Syrup
• 3 Lemon-Lime SodaInstructions
Mix Ingredients: In a cocktail shaker half-filled with ice cubes, combine 3/4 oz of dark rum, 0.5 oz of triple sec, 1 oz of orange juice, 1 oz of margarita mix, and 0.5 oz of sugar syrup.
Shake Well: Shake the mixture vigorously until well chilled.
Strain and Serve: Strain the cocktail into a hurricane glass almost filled with ice cubes.
Top with Lemon-Lime Soda: Top off the drink with 3 oz of lemon-lime soda.
Stir and Garnish: Stir briefly to mix, then garnish with an orange slice.From

The lobster shack lunch sounds sooo nice. And glad Colt is recovering well. Our weather is similar to yours, NM. It will be a weather shock to go south to Louisiana in a couple of weeks, where we will get sweaty moving back into the house.

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy TGIF day! The lobstah shack excursion yesterday went well in the end, but the beginning was a bit rough. I stopped at Mom's friend Barbara's home to pick her up as planned. She is 83 and beginning to have more mobility challenges, and took a tumble as she was getting ready to leave. She didn't get badly hurt, just a scratch and a sore knee, thank goodness. It took some doing to get her back on her feet, but we managed. Afterwards she was a bit shaken up and didn't want to leave home, so plans shifted slightly, I went and got Mom, then Mom and I went to the Lobstah shack and ordered very yummy food and Mom got to visit with the friend that owns the place. We took the food back to Barbara's and had a very good lunch then they had a nice long visit, with lots of reminiscing about people and events I knew nothing about. It was really nice to see Mom light up like she did.
mOmmy--I hear you about thinking about starting to bring out some of the warmer clothes. I've already put the heavier duvet on the bed and put up the summer blanket.
Carole--the lobster was a hit, and Colt seems back to normal with the exception of the odd quill working it's way out and trying to poke me as I pet him. Those things hurt! It sounds like you are heading for quite the weather change to adjust to!
Red Lobster Mai Tai
Ingredients
• 1 ½ ounces white rum
• ½ ounce triple sec
• ½ ounce lime juice
• 1 ounce pineapple juice
• 1 ounce orange juice
• ½ ounce grenadine
• ¾ ounce dark rum
• 2 pieces chopped pineapple for garnish
• 2 maraschino cherries for garnishInstructions

I put the afghan i made as my first big crochet project on the bed. Dragged out some Fall weight shirts and pjs so far. The house was a bit on the chilly side the last few days up until yesterday when we had temps in the low 70s and had to use the fan last night but this morning chilly again and so I have locked the windows for the colder weather. Going to put the fans away in a bit. Had a panic attack briefly when I started dragging out the winter curtains and could not find a few panels. I found them packed away in one of my crates with some winter clothes when I went to pull out some warmer shirts. Have all my curtains out and will get to them later today if not tomorrow, if this blasted cold I woke up with doesn't do me in first.

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Saturday! It must have gotten chilly last night, both puppers woke me up burrowing under the duvet, and incidentally pulling it off me! A sure sign summer is passing.
mOmmy--Don't you hate that feeling when something isn't where you just know you put it?
