We took a little walk this morning & spent the rest of the day at Homecoming festivities at the local college (DH is an alumni). Our last day of beautiful weather. Tomorrow is supposed to be rainy & 25 degrees colder!!

A quick check in. I'll go on a dog walk today, but the rest of the time I will be scurrying around getting ready for a cruise down the Tennessee Rivers; which we leave for tomorrow.

Thanks for all the kind words. I'm over the mad and still sad but at peace. I think DH had been ill for a while but didn't let on cuz he knew I'd make him see the doc. My BIL is a retired EMT and thinks it was likely a tear in the abdominal aorta, which is hard to fix and DH would have been medically involved for a long time. That would have been hell for him so I have to respect his decision to die at home, if that's what happened. Will never know. 💔

Badger: I hope your dh had not been in pain and had been able to live his life as normal as possible. Think of you every day and glad that you are at peace. ❤️

We had a nice, smooth travel day (a rarity these days) & have been knocking around downtown Chattanooga. A nice city. It's warmer and more humid than North Dakota! I've taken 2 showers since we got here at 4 this afternoon!

A quick check in. On Saturday I went to the musical The Great Gatsby. Was under the weather on Sunday but felt better yesterday and was able to volunteer at the clothes closet. Today I went to crime club and walked this evening.

Luckily we didn't have any problems with the hurricane Isaias. Some areas in central NC had tornadoes and the mountains had flooding.

TT: Hope you had a good time on the Outer Banks. They have been slammed this year with weather related damages.

Have a fantastic trip, Ruth. Hopefully cooler air will arrive.

    Badger: ❤️

Mowed the lawn yesterday. Did not enjoy it at all! I hadn't mowed for years due to LE concerns after BC tx. That was 16 years ago so I think I'm safe but it's a task I can do and not hire out. I've been shoveling snow (and much prefer that job to mowing) so can keep doing that. Going to have to call the Culligan Man, though, for water softener help. I'm not strong enough to lug heavy bags of salt down the basement stairs and pour into the brine tank.

Got to Tai Chi at lunchtime…instructor back from China - a very long airplane ride away!

It's okay to hire people to do things you can't or don't want to do, Badger!

We walked over to see the Chattanooga Choo-Choo this morning. A fun little tourist stop with some interesting railroad history. By noon we were on the boat & cruising through the Appalachian Mountains through the beautiful scenery. 10,000 plus steps!

That looks so beautiful and peaceful, I know you will have fun!

I haven't mowed a lawn in over 20 years (and neither has my DH!)…when my in-laws moved in with us in 2004 I had to call for help. It turned out that one of my friends husband had started a lawn business. Problem solved! Except that he told me October will be his last month - ugh. So I am in the lawn service seeking mode right now - just in time for leaf season. Some things are better to outsource.

We will be coming home to lots of yardwork!

We had the fun of going through a lock at sunset. I went to a 20 minute exercise class this morning at 7:00 with 9 other people who think getting up to exercise on vacation sounds fun. I'm listening to an interesting lecture about steamboats right now. We dock in Decatur, Al at noon & we'll check out the Space & Rocket Center there this afternoon.

Love the smoke coming off the trees and the locks, so cool.

DH and I have already signed up for a cruise through the Panama Canal (in two years!)…as an engineer DH is really looking forward to the locks and doing a hard hat tour of the operations…

Badger: Push mowing is hard work, especially if the yard is not flat. One redeeming thing about it is that the yard looks really good afterwards. Smart move to call the Culligan Man. I know you will make the right decision next year as to how much you can do. Dh and I gave up mowing in August 2024 when he hurt is back and later had to have surgery. I knew I couldn't mow it every week by myself so we hired someone and haven't looked back. I don't miss mowing in the heat of the summer!

TT: I hope you find someone to do your yard work who is good as who you have now.

    Ruth: Keep the pictures coming.

I did the same cruise last year that Ruth is on now except we started in Nashville and ended in Chattanooga which is in reverse from Ruth's trip. I'm having fun reliving my experience through Ruth's.

Walked this evening and then sat outside on the deck. It's a warm day (not July/August heat thank goodness) and felt good after my walk.

Ruth, what a fun trip. I have the Chattanooga Choo-Choo song in my head now.

Yesterday was home maintenance day. DH was a great cook but not much of a handyman. The gas cap for the lawn mower went missing and his bush fix was an aluminum foil cover. Uh, no. Got a new one and while at the hardware store, got a new screen door handle then installed it myself. Had to rummage through tool boxes (we have two) for a Phillips head screwdriver so pulled them both for a purge and reorg. When will I use a giant pipe wrench? I won't get rid of any tools yet but stuff like that can go in the 2nd toolbox which went down to the basement. Got inspired to clean and reorg the pantry, where the 1st toolbox is located. Today, pulled everything out of the overstuffed linen closet, did multiple loads of wash, and dropped off four bags with clean blankets and sheets for a community bedding drive.

I am fascinated by locks. I got up at 6am to watch us go through the Wilson Lock (the oldest lock on the Tennessee River & keystone of FDR's TVA project. We spent yesterday afternoon at the Nasa Space & Rocket Center near Decatur, Alabama. In a few minutes we are off to see Helen Keller's birthplace & this afternoon we're going to a Native American Cultural Center to learn their stories of life on what they call 'The Singing River'.

    • It's not letting me post pictures right now. I'll try later.

I'm having a heck of a time posting pictures, so I'll wait until I'm home. Yesterday we took an in-depth tour of the Civil War battlefields of Shiloh & Corith.

We just are leaving Paducah where we toured the National Quilt Museum looked at the murals on the floodwaters (which depict the history of the town. This afternoon we'll check out the scenery & animals at a National Scenic Byway. I did go to the 7:00 am exercise class this morning; so should get enough steps today.

I've never been to those battlefields, but hubby has. Been to Gettysburg, Antietam and few others. Hubby and I love history. Bucket list is to get to Petersburg one day, one of my ancestors fought at and was wounded at Petersburg.
