Managing high recurrence risk or high risk of developing a second breast cancer.
I really don't want to do radiology. The risk is 15-20% without radiation the risk with radiation 5% reoccurance. According to my doctor. Since I will still have to do an MRI and mammogram every six months not sure this is necessary. Thoughts?
Hi everyone. Looking for some advice from all you wise, brave folks. I had IDC 18 years ago; ER+, PR+, HER2 neg/double mastectomy/chemo/tamox/negative sentinel nodes. A year ago was diagnosed with an aggressive axillary node recurrence; surgery to remove 8 nodes, 4 pos, 4 neg. Went on letrozole, had radiation, now 9 months…
I am grade 3 DCIS ER/PR negative and had a lumpectomy. My surgeon mentioned that I needed to take radiation due to high grade. He referred me to a radiation oncologist, whom I met this morning. The oncologist said my recurrence rate is 20 to 25%, and radiation can reduce it to be less than 10%. The side effects include…
I found out in August of 2024 I had ductal carcinoma in situ, 1.1 cm. There was no evidence of invasive carcinoma. No cancer found in the lymph node on the left side. I had a lumpectomy and did not require radiation or chemo. My cancer is positive estrogen receptor status. I have a decision to make regarding taking…
I was dx and treated with lumpectomy and rads in 2002, had another surgery to remove scar tissue in 2011. Opposite breast (dcis) in 2023, had lumpectomy, then another surgery a few weeks later to get better margins, followed by rads to this breast. I have yearly MRI's since 2011'. This past Dec. went for the yearly and…

Hello all! Scared!! Found a lump the other day in my 12-year post diagnosis breast. I had DMX, followed by chemo, bilateral reconstruction, a fat graft transfer and 10 years of anastrazole. At the time, I was stage 2 grade 1 and no LVI. I saw my primary today and was referred to our local breast cancer center, but I can't…
I am a10 year survivor took a mammography and they say I have calcification on my healthy left breast and they want to do a biopsy it kind of sacres me because i am afraid it might be back. What is calcification?
When I was going through breast cancer in 2021, my breast surgeon, my radiation oncologist, and my oncologist counseled me to get a lumpectomy and radiation. They told me that getting a SMX or DMX for what was thought to be a 5mm tumor (it turned out to be 3mm) was like trying to kill an ant with a sledgehammer. The…
My MO would like me to start an AI and ovarian suppression/removal. I am 42. Onc score was 31 for IDC with lobular component. No nodes. I understand that I do have a risk of recurrence but I also value an active lifestyle. I had no question mentally regarding the mastectomy and chemo. I do not feel peaceful about the…
