Marla, I think most of us, who think, who take our lives seriously, are guilty of "hit & run" on that debate board. On the serious side because we're intelligent women who want to make sure "correct" information is given and not frightening or worrying people who are new to breast cancer, or those who have been walking this road for some time and have yet to "accept" where they are and that they're doing the best they can...something that sounds "professional" and "educated" can make them feel foolish or like they have no clue. And send them into total panic. That's just wrong. On the lighter side? I think we just like a little adventure and we like the "thrill" of the "quick hit". Now I have to go and read debate it to see just what little cookies you left for the troll...

And yes I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my American friends. And I am guilty I admit of my share of "hit and run" activity with the as you said, "dumerican" type. Not because I don't like that type of person; I can't resist the challenge!! And let's remember, the "dumerican" could always be a "dumcanadian". When you don't post your location, you could be, as I said on the debate it thread ... from Mars!

Rexi honey, here is to you on Friday! All the best with the surgery. Be thinking of you and sending up tons of good thoughts.

Marla, I just checked Debate It to see where you'd left your crumbs...seems you weren't feeding the troll as I'd assumed, and you didn't leave crumbs...you went into serious debate and put the package of cookies on the table.

So to clarify my prior comments, on the serious side, that thread has no "dumericans" at all ~ there's one whose post, again, I cannot figure out (a little too strong for a debate; comes across more as carrying heavy artillery meant to wound), but the others are all very intelligent women with strong points of view. Which is exactly what real debate is about. And thank goodness for freedom to express views and opinions. No right or wrong, just honest opinion. As long as it stays "clean" and the mud slinging stays out of it, I'm all for free speech!! When I can understand what is being said!!

I saw the post that someone did stating that Canadians loathed the US....wonder where they got that, cause I've never known that to be true. I was very glad you stepped up and made that clear...and the flag flier too!

I know better than to go there, but I couldn't help it. What's wrong with me???? Oh well. I believe everyone has a right to their opinion, but seems that like you said, some of those folks only come in with an agenda, sling it, and then commence to bashing. Not good. Makes it nearly impossible to have an "intelligent" debate/conversation, whatever you want to call it. Does make one curious as to what was said next. One day, Sherry, I will be strong enough to walk away for good. I promise. lol

    I LOVE CANADIANS!

I love the "I LOVE CANADIANS" chant!! At first I thought it said "I LOVE CANADIAN" ~ as in Molson Canadian which is a mighty fine beer!! I'm telling you these last few days I'm having trouble reading and making sense of what I read and sometimes what I'm saying doesn't come out right either. Residuals of chemo ... age ... weather ... a little stress .... I'm not too worried ... yet!!

One of these days you'll "stay out of Debate It" ~ honey, don't if it makes you feel good. We all have places we travel here that fill a need and there are some who very much enjoy debate and the exchange of ideas. Sadly, what most often happens is that feelings get hurt, things are said either in anger, igorance or to prove a point (because deep down, whether we admit it or not, we value our opinion and we feel it's right ~ because it is right ~ for us and the world doesn't make that distinction)and it breaks down into something "personal". People take the attack on an issue to heart and take it personally. And we're human. It's what we do. There's a huge difference between having some fun with a hot topic, something tongue-in-cheek to bring the temperature down a notch or two and bashing, slashing and hurtful comments. It's trying to maintain balance. In a verbal debate, a "real" debate there is a moderator present who keeps temperatures cool. There is a moderator here but not present while the exchanges go back and forth. So the idea of having a debate is fabulous in theory, but in practical application? Tricky at best. JMO.

If you've got a voice that wants to be heard ~ if you've got a point of view that differs from someone else's, voice it. You never know who is watching/reading who might be taking away something positive from you, agreeing with something that you've said. We do make a difference. Even when we don't realize it.

Now that I've turned this thread into the lecture circuit...

Is it too early for a drink?!?

    Sherry,

In Singapore it's night-cap time. They had an ad that ran there all the time, it was about young woman, with children going crazy, and her father tells her its good to have a shot of benedictine cause it's loaded with healthy spices. Sure make that gal an afternoon delight! What kids?

Benedictine has healthy spices?!? Lovely news!!

Reminds me of my great aunt who was very, very devoutly religious, pious and proper, she belonged to the temperance union and very much disapproved of spirits & their consumption (not a party girl at all!) ~ a "spinster" her whole 91 years. When she was hospitalized prior to her death, as doctors were trying to determine what was causing her health problems, she asked my mother to ger her some "hospital brandy". My mother had no idea what that was, my aunt kept insisting, she had a bottle all the time in her room in the Anglican Church home (run by the nuns), and it was her "hospital brandy" that she used when she wasn't feeling well. It was "okay" to drink this because her doctor recommended it, having one per night. My mother went to her room, found the bottle...called "Hospitality" brand!! We never did tell her the mistake ~ and she had her "hospital" brandy at the end!!

As for giving that girl an "afternoon delight" ~ doesn't that belongs on the Mojo thread?

Good story, see it's good to lose some eyesight later on in life. Afternoon delight...skyrockets in flight, afternoon delight. Ohhhh yeah, I get it. See what drinkin in the afternoon can lead to with the kids outside playin in traffic.

Nice story - good thing no one corrected her! She'd had a heart attack then and there! I'm a PK, (preacher's kid), and everything you hear about us is NOT true

However, my mom makes some of the best homemade wine. So does my grandma for that matter...I tried to make it once. ONCE. When it came down to it, I was afraid to partake in my own concoction (spelling doesn't matter here, right? lol). Thought for sure I did it wrong and would poison myself. Silly me!

Pass the glass, I'm sendin my 5 year old out to direct traffic!

That's what I LOVE about this thread ~ the humour and the lightness and we all "get it" about each other; what we're saying what we mean, what life is all about.

Homemade wine and "Afternoon Delight" ~ very late 70s ~ some very nice memories!!

Oh yeah...had to answer back at the debate board. I have never been around more racism than last October, I was at a Corporate convention, and I hate to say it, but it was a large group of African Americans...some of which are my friends. They would only "cheer" for the folks of their race (on stage), and sit down and some turned their backs on anyone white who walked across the stage. We are all on the same Team, mind you...it was meant to be a celebration of everyone's accomplishments, but they turned it into a race thing. I couldn't believe it! I hate this whole racism thing! I had never heard such comments before and was shocked, but, I was explained that that's how it is in most cases...it's as if they're almost looking for a hint of racism in someone else - proof that someone "white" made more, had more, did more, so they can be defensive or prove...what?? How will we EVER get past this? Ever? I don't think that we can...too many carrying it with them and teaching it to the next generation. CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG??? One Big Happy Family?!? Can't say this over there...can I? Whoo-wee, I'd be BBQ'd alive! On a Stick...OH NO! Nuff of that non-sense.

Thanks for watchin out for me, Rosemary! Some folks, in their ignorance, can jump boards, find me here, and do terrible things...like SPOIL THE PARTAY! What you got today, Ms. Sherry? Me, I'm still holdin out till chemo is over. My virtual choice of the day is a Mikes Hard Lemonade...Sherry, can you toss one my way?

Pam!! Are you home, or are you still in the library?!?

Marla, Marla, Marla. You describe a "perfect" world ~ "utopia" and what I wouldn't give for that. I agree it would be wonderful if we could all play nice and share this sandbox of a planet in peace. And I would love to see it in our lifetime.

But ignorance toward one another still exists on both sides and I'm not sure how we ever overcome that.

And here I go back to the 70s (early 80s?!) "Ebony & Ivory". One of my favourite songs and I still love it when it's on the radio.

I don't have much in the fridge right now ~ doing Herceptin I really am being careful to keep myself "clean" for the drugs. There's some Alexander Keith's my husband brought back from a soccer tournament this weekend, a Stella Artois and a little Jamaican Rum in the cupboard!!

If you really want to do the "ebony & ivory" there is a really nice liquer, I believe it's Sheridan's. It's two liquers sharing the bottle and when you pour, both come out of the spout togther & blend!! One is a white cream liquer, the other a dark (not sure of the flavours off the top of my head).

So you see, once again, in the drinking thread, we have solved the world's problem with regard to colour and racism!!

    This got me thinking. Hmmm

When they meet: Come on baby let the good times roll, uh-huh

Which leads to: skyrockets in flight

Then: Did you ever know that Your my Hero

When they meet a month later: What's your name, what's your name?? Is it Peggy or Sue...UT-OH

Sherry, And your going to be the sand police. Now that I think about it if it does get rowdy here we can start another thread where it doesn't show in the top of the boards. I'm not suggesting this for me, of course, its all the other ladies that may be embarrassed to be seen here. Not me.

All right, but I'll need a deputy!!

I could do this job too, police the sandbox!! When I think of myself as a kid ~ good grief ~ I had "rules" for my neat sandbox, where the pails & shovels would be, who could bring "what" into the sandbox!! And my pool? I had a little bucket at the side so people would wash off the grass before they came in. I just could not stand all that grass floating about while we'd be "swimming" (keep in mind we are talking a splash pool & I was 5!!) And of course there was the standard "no peeing in the pool". I think back on that and what a pencil head I was!! Here I am now ~ like does it really matter if there's grass in the pool (true, I suppose at this age, some would differ on THAT!) I'm just happy to still be here to play!! But there will be no peeing in the drinking thread ~ self control is still a must and if you laugh too hard and can't contain it, please bring your Depends!!

Or you can dole out the Depends!!

Cancer is such a beast ~ I need the days where I can have "too much fun"!!

I'm missing my baby who's in the Big Apple having way too much fun I'm sure with his graduating class (he's 14) and thinking about all the good times I've had in NYC!!

I'm up for it....but Rosemary, what will happen should we need you? Will you come runnin in the depends and a pail?

I'm gonna need to borrow that shovel...I just stirred up more poo on the debate it board. I've gotta stop. Gotta make that denisa girl my friend, first...ahhhh. The challenge of it all.

Hey, I'm being nice in my posts, by the way. Just trying to make them think. I guess some just don't want to think of anything other than what they've been taught, though. Me, well...I've never been much of a follower - but Sherry, I'd follow you 'bout anywhere.

Oh...the 5 year old is in from directing traffic. He's now planning our disney world trip. Pass that "whatchamacallit" drink you brewed up earlier, Sherry. I need a sip!

Okay, now that I've pulled myself together, I've poured all of us what I will now refer to as the "ebony & ivory" and put it in very nice brandy snifters and added some ice. Cheers!!

Marla, you do go back to those debates. You need a pith helmet ... was it Shel that was handing those out before? I can't remember. I know you play nice (which is why you get to be Deputy of the sandbox) and I love that you are trying to make friends with the others in Debate. That reminds me of old elementary school report cards "plays well with others" Which is another automatic nomination for being in the playground.

I'm happy to have you follow me anywhere ~ bring a map though, I have been known to "lose my way" from time to time!!

Enjoy planning the Disney World trip. And think of me when you're riding "It's a Small World After All" ~ I had nightmares about that song after we were there!!! Ran through my head for weeks, at the most inopportune times!!!

And by the way, you do speak well to your points when you're in Debate. Heck you speak well to everything you think on any thread.

Let me guess...it's a "small" world...you bad, bad girl! lol

I don't think I'll be needing a helmet after tomorrow, since the thread is going to be pulled anyway, but toss me one just in case. WHY CAN'T THEY SEE THAT I AM RIGHT? I'm always right and if you don't believe me, just ask me! teeheehee! Nice Ebony & Ivory...
