how about drinking?

Hey Buds~
Welcome to all the new faces! Pull up a barstool and enjoy a cocktail or two (or so.)
Charlene - don't let anyone make you feel guilty for having a couple of drinks. If you give up everything you enjoy - then that's not living, and living is what we're all here for, right?
Janis - It's gonna be such a great feeling when you tell Whole Foods "their services are no longer needed".
Went to a brunch yesterday and had a couple of Poinsettias. Just like a mimosa, but instead of orange juice and champagne, it's cranberry juice and champage. Tasty and very pretty!
Stay warm everyone...
Cheers,
Donna

Christine - you're alive! You're alive! LOL!
Good to see you posting. I was afraid you were drunk in a gutter somewhere....Ha!

Junie ... bottoms up back at you and thanks! I know the y'all and all y'all difference from my sister who lives in Texas!
Donna ... thanks, that about sums up my feelings on the subject!
My wine right now is Yellow Tail Shiraz/Cabernet mix. I'm usually a Merlot drinker but like to try new things and this thread is great for ideas. Love the friendship I see here. This is a very happy place!
Cheers, hugs and thanks!

I don't speak Southern but I hope I can still be here with y'all!
Yes, the time is fastly approaching where I can say "phfffffffffft!" to Whole Foods. I'm looking forward to meeting some of you when I have layovers, okay? Drinking could be involved if I'm there long enough. I'll have to post my layover cities every month as see who I can visit with. I am pretty gosh darn excited!
Well, no drinking tonight as it was my late night and I have an early day tomorrow but I'll have something tomorrow night for sure.
I'm also back to cruising for dates. The current guy is fine but he needs to be more into me during the week and not just when we're alone for me to feel like we should be exclusive so until then I'm not!
And I'm still trying to figure out this new scanner/printer! But I promise she will be worth the wait.
Cheers and stay warm with a hot toddy or a hot buttered rum!

Please, Please let me know if you have layovers in Nashville or Knoxville

Donna- lol, "drunk in a gutter somewhere" You know that it would have to be a gutter big enough for you to join me.
Go figure, Donna still celebrating with holiday drinks (Poinsettias)in late January. It is time to switch to some brewski for the Super Bowl, in between the Hurricanes for Mardi Gras.
Glad some new drinking gals have joined us, the more the merrier at the funnest thread!

Christine, don't be such a stranger!
I myself am sick and frickin' tired of this frickin' arctic weather!
I'm also stressed-out to the max over life so I'm having some cheap Dancing Bull Zin. It's not bad, just not great. It will do the job.
I swear I'm gonna figure out how to scan Avery's picture with my printer/scanner, if I ever find the time and energy to do so!
Cheers to the oldies and the newbies!

Christine - okay - I've moved on to the brewskies now. And by the way, that's funnestest, not funnest LOL!
J - cheap is all I know! I like Dancing Bull Zin. Then again, my exposure to great wine is extremely limited! If you ever have a layover in Tulsa (unlikely) please let me know!!
Hope everyone has a great weekend!
Cheers,
Donna

Well I think of myself as fairly intelligent .. although I seem to be losing a lot of brain cells since my dx and particularly since slamming into the brick wall of sudden instant menopause (is that how you put it to me once Donna?) ... but it took me Forever to find this thread!!! I know you guys are the funnestest group on here but wondering how you got put under the Humor topic??? LOL Now that I know I think I'll remember but better save this as a favorite just in case!
Cheers,
Charlene

Angel, long story short is that we were having too much fun on the Moving Beyond forum (? correct me if I'm wrong on that Buds) and some complained so were 'banished' here which is okay by me as we don't get the complainers anymore!
Donna, I do prefer 'better' wines but my budget doesn't always allow me to drink them so I drink whatever is on sale!
I'm out of wine so if I do drink tonight it will be Vanille Royale or scotch.
Cheers to all and welcome Angel!

Jaybird,
Hey as long as you got rid of the complainers and still have your thread.. it's funny where the thread ended up! Laughter is the best medicine you know and a little alcohol doesn't hurt any either. LOL Thanks for your welcome!

Hi girls!
Haven't been here in awhile....
There is a new store here called Spirits....they have a TON of wine. More than any store I've ever seen and....it's very inexpensive. Blackstone Merlot is $6.99 there all the time.
They also have a red called "Cheap Red Wine". It is a very good wine. Really. It's $4.99 a bottle and $7.99 for a fat bottle.
It's my new fave store!!
Angel, two things....I had that Angel photo you posted on here a long time ago...printed and framed for my niece. She cried. She loved it and I've got to tell you that thing is awesome as an 10x13. I couldn't afford anything bigger! Thanks for posting that.
Also, my sister lives in Dallas and, I'm thinking about moving there! (I was born and raised in San Angelo, TX)
Just wanted y'all to know!
Cheers!

not sure where the bar in Arkansas is just now--could be blown up to Christine's backyard! Hellacious winds last two days and storms predicted for later tonight. But, if Donna's okay right now, I should be too. Seems the weather pattern hits her, then me, then, Christine....
ok--question to all you wine experts--what are your thoughts on the boxed wines that are available? We've purchased them for parties, large gatherings...they are great. But, take the run of the mill evening when I'd like just one glass of wine with dinner (or, to cook with--LOL)......I hate opening a bottle of good wine for one or two drinks--always feel "obligated" to finish the bottle, when all I really want is just a glass of wine with dinner.....
I'm just curious!!! hugggsssssss!!!!

Hey Junie,
Hope you're still there and haven't blown away!
I myself don't like the boxed wines but then I'm probably a wine snob! They taste funny to me. I have a vacuum sealer so when I open a bottle of wine I won't feel obligated to drink all of it! They do work and are available at most wine chains and at places like Bed, Bath & Beyond and Linens-N-Things.
Keep in mind, red wine should still be okay after a day or two and white up to a week (I think) but they will deteriorate faster with oxygen in the bottle as opposed to taking most of it out. Cheers!

Traci ... hey, it's good to talk to you again! I'm so glad that my angel picture post touched your niece like that. I remember which one it was and that is an awesome one. I'll have to print that one myself and frame it! I still post angel pictures daily and like to try to post different ones but that one I will post again for some who haven't seen it! It's one of my favorites. My sister lives in Katy which is closer to Houston. I didn't think people were allowed to move away from Texas! LOL
Junie ... I've wondered about those boxed wines myself.
Jaybird ... I have metal corks and the natural corks that come with the wine .. how are those for keeping red wine? Should I not be keeping it for 5 days or so? Does it lose alcohol content or just flavor? Sorry for all the questions .. I never thought about finishing the bottle within a day or two!

Junie - I think Dorothy, Toto and her house is headed your way. I think I just saw them fly by. Wow - has it been blowing and snowing this morning. Now the sun is shinning, that's KS weather for you.
I have no answers to the wine questions as wine and me just do not get along. Junie has her ML and I have my MU with an occasional coconut rum and pineapple juice thrown in for good measure.
I haven't researched very far back in the threads, but has anything been planned for a get together?? I'm beginning my reconstruction surgery on March 17th, so don't know how that will affect my travels. But I won't miss going to Vegas in June.
Keep those elbows bending!!!

Hi... I am new to this thread... I have been trying to be good and haven't been drinking as much since I read that even ONE drink/day increases our risk of breast cancer...
It took me awhile to get the Southern lingo... ALL YA'LL is for EVERYBODY, and ya'll is just one of ya'll.... ok, I got it... now that I live in NC, I am a real southerner! DH and I moved here Oct. 2006 from Maryland.
I like MelonBalls! They are: 1 shot vodka, 1 shot Midori liquer, and about a shot of o.j. MMMM.... they are just DE-LICIOUS!!
I think I'll have a melon ball before dinner tonight... they are so good!
This is such a fun group of women, I think I 'll stop by here for a drink a lot more often!!
Cheers!

Welcome Harley - melon balls sound delish
Janice - forgot to mention - when you get your wings and happen to have a layover in Wichita - I'm just a hop skip and a jump (maybe a fall) from the airport - would love to have a brewski with you!!

I just found this site! I like to indulge in assorted alcoholic beverages. There are very few that I've came across that I really don't care for. Sounds like if I hang around I may find something new!

hugggssss, Sam--I think there is a red shoe in my back yard!!! Lord, this weather scares me--people playing golf this morning--right now, it's 10 degrees--what a drop in temp!
Think there is some momentum for a Eureka gathering Apr 11 - 14, check out the get-together forum. Hope you will feel like coming, but also know that is probably your busiest time of the year!! And, when you get to Vegas--you must duck into that crappy little casino where we all lost one day of our trip! We, and Brenda and Alan, got to laughing about that just tonight! And, OMG--the recent fire at the Monte Carlo--that's where me and Brenda, SG, and the sweet gal from Australia were staying when we first met up with you and Christine!
A big welcome to Harley and Lynne--hope you come back often! Melon Balls sound yummy--I'll have to try one!
Big hugs to all ya'll--and if anyone is a super bowl fan (I'm not a football person at all...) please pray for the Giants to win--seems like Bob and a couple of buds have a potential big ticket winner and it might mean a quickie trip to Vegas to collect the money!!! LOL!!!
I swear, the older I get, the more fun and more screwed up life gets!!!

Hi Buds~
Welcome drinking bud newbies!
Traci - I wish we had a Spirits! Sounds like my fav store too!
Not a big box wine drinker myself, and I'm not familiar with the concept of feeling obligated to finish a bottle of wine (it just comes natural to me. Although I have cut back considerably lately in an effort to lose some lbs.
Junie- I haven't blown away yet, but (and I am not making this up) on Monday I was at work (on the 5th floor) and the wind was blowing so hard outside, and making so much noise I could not have a phone conversation. People on the other end thought there was construction going on in the background and couldn't believe it was the wind!
Yesterday when I came to work it was 70 degrees, and when I got off it was 30 degrees. WTF? And tomorrow they're calling for 2-4 " of snow, which practically shuts down Tulsa.
There is a gathering in Eureka Springs, AR April 11 - 13th if anyone is interested. I just found out there is a UFO conference in Eureka that weekend, so maybe we'll see some aliens! Or - maybe we'll drink enough to see them even if they aren't actually there LOL!
Better get back to work.
Cheers!

Okay - just noticed I am making my 1,100th post, and am proud to be making it on the funnestest thread!
TGIF! Good Lord, after all the holidays, this working 5 days a week is killing me LOL!
Anybody have big plans for groundhog day LOL! BF Mark is leaving this afternoon heading to PA, around the Scranton area to look at a glider plane (like he needs more stuff to do) so I'm a bachelorette all weekend. I'll probably have a cocktail or two or so....
Cheers!!

Unfortuanetly I have to work all weekend!! I have a Mon- Fri 8-4 job but picked up a part time job to help pay some bills. I will be having a drink Saturday night though! I think it will be some Grand Marnier on the rocks!! Have a great weekend.
Bottoms up
Lynne

Lynne4, your first post cracked me up!
Cheers girls!

ps Angel, I miss Texas. I'm seriously thinking about moving to Dallas and going to work for my sister. Did I already say that???
OMG....somebody sent me this YouTube thing that was Hitler mad about the Cowboys...it was so freaking funny. I laughed so hard I was almost crying! I wish I had a link but, I don't...sorry. You can search "Hitler, Diehard Cowboy fan" if you want to see it. Funny stuff!

Greetings to all the newbies! Welcome to the bar - pull up a stool and stay awhile!
We got 8" here, and not in a good way! The first time I shoveled my driveway was about after 5" and then after work someone did the next 3" that fell. How nice to have nice neighbors, but I don't always know who to thank. ???
I'm on the wagon, just because I'm feeling the need to detox my body. I'm doing a detox liquid but I'm still eating 'regular' food. I'm kind of broke so not drinking will help my pocketbook somewhat.
I'm heading down to Atlanta for training this week, will have to go back down next week, too, and then I'll be back to flying March 2nd (give or take a day). I'll be sure to post my layovers so we can get together!
Well, I have to get to work and sell lots of cheese, beer & wine to those having Superbowl parties!
Cheers!
(Go Giants...)

Hello drinkin' buds~
There is very sad news about our drinking bud Cheryl. Her sister Charlie posted a message in the Moving Beyond Cancer: Wagon Circle thread that Cheryl (CY) got her liver scan results yesterday and the tumors have actually grown on the new chemo. The lesions in her brain have grown as well. She is in and out of consciousness and her doctors have told the family it is pretty much a matter of time, possibly within a week before she passes.
My heart is heavy, as CY has been such an active part of this wonderful group of women for a long time, and one of my oldest cyber "drinking' buds". But she is much more than that, having touched so many lives here with her ever-positive attitude. I am so grateful I had a chance to meet Cheryl and her husband Scott at Pinkstock last August.
Thought you'd all want to know.
I will pray for Cheryl's comfort, and drink one for her tonight.
Donna

Oh, Donna, that is SUCH bad news. Thanks for letting us know.....

Thanks, Donna--I've been following CY's "journey" on the other thread; I am so sorry. Hoping for miracles or peace...sometimes, the funnestest place can also be the saddestest place--and that's what we're all about--support, in the good times, and the bad, and the inbetween.

Traci!
Hey, good to see you again! What's new? How are you doing? How's your sister doing? I remember you were going to stay with her for awhile, to help her after her surgery. I hope she made it through the surgery without any problems, and is doing well.
I am tired of trying to be good, so I think I'll just have some beers while watching the football game tomorrow...
Next week, I am going on a 7 day Caribbean cruise with my dh. I need to start packing... I am excited about going, it should be fun!
Hope to hear from you soon!
Harley
