I agree I would love to see more pics of Miss Avery.

Cheers everyone and thanks for the prayers and good thoughts

HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL YOU BEAUTIFUL B/C LADIES!!

    Subject: Tequila

    Tequila Christmas Cake

    Ingredients:

    1 cup of water
    1 tsp baking soda
    1 cup of sugar
    1 tsp salt
    1 cup of brown sugar
    Lemon juice
    4 large eggs
    Nuts
    1 bottle tequila
    2 cups of dried fruit

Sample the tequila to check quality. Take a large bowl, check the tequila
again. To be sure it is of the highest quality, pour one level cup and
drink. Repeat. Turn on the electric mixer. Beat one cup of butter in a
large fluffy bowl. Add one teaspoon of sugar. Beat again. At this point
it's best to make sure the tequila is still OK. Try another cup... just in
case. Turn off the mixerer thingy. Break 2 eggs and add to the bowl and
chuck in the cup of dried fruit.

Pick the fruit up off floor. Mix on the turner. If the fried
druit gets stuck in the beaterers just pry it loose with a drewscriver.
Sample the tequita to check for tonsisticity. Next, sift two cups of salt.
Or something. Check the tequila. Now shift the lemon juice and strain your
nuts. Add one table. Add a spoon of sugar, or somefink. Whatever you can
find. Greash the oven. Turn the cake tin 360 degrees and try not to fall
over. Don't forget to beat off the turner. Finally, throw the bowl through
the window. Finish the tequila and wipe counter with the cat.

Biondi--so sorry we didn't get to meet--Next Time!

Sam--the crud is going away, but lingering--however, I intend to cook that crap right out of me next week while I bask in the Mexican Riveria sunshine.   No topless this time, although have done that in many years past!

Kids and new grandbaby coming tomorrow for Christmas in Arkansas.  They'll leave late Sunday, and we'll head for the airport at 4 am on Mon for a much needed R&R to Mexico.   Staying at a new place near Tulum--about an hour and a half south of Cancun.  We've visited the area but never stayed there, so am excited to see something new.   As we've aged, we keep going further south from Cancun--Cancun, Puerto Morales, Playa del Carmen (many times), now further south to Puerto Aventuras.

So--bar in Arkansas is open tonight--taking orders for drinks to have for each of you while I'm south of the border.   Mind you--I can drink the cerveza til the cows come home, but put one shot of anything in me and you might as well put me to bed!

Have a kazillion things to get done in next couple days, but will check back for your drink orders--and will check back in if I survive the trip!

...will be looking for some Miss Avery pics.....

...and, sending gentle hugs and lots of love to CY....

    see you all soon!

FYI - Cheryl is home and resting today.  She has an MRI in a month to confirm she kicked the cancer's ass with the gamma knife.

Biondi - that cake recipe sounds good.  Wonder if it works with rum? :-)

Hi Sam - I'm in Ponca City just south of Newkirk.    Okay so someone please tell me a good white or blush wine.  It's going to be icing up here and I'm going to need something to drink!  I can't drink red because it gives me migraines.

I'm toasting and going to drink one or two for CY!  You kicked some cancer ass yesterday.

CG, thanks for the update on Cheryl!  :)

Me, I've been laying low. Met a new man and he likes me as much as I like him! We're just FB's right now which is okay with me.

No new pics of Avery yet. I take more video than pictures but her holiday photo sitting is next Tuesday so when I get those back I'll be sure to post!  :)

Cheers to all and BIG HUGS to Cheryl!

Just checking in, I'm a bit tired and sore from sitting up with that contraption on my head for over 12 hours but it's done and looks like insurance is going to cover it! Yahoo that's a relief!

Still don't know when I'll be able to actually have a drink but I hope it's not long. The next two weeks will be the ones that I have to watch out for. Swelling and all that. So for now I'll be good and leave the drinking to you all.

Janis, sometimes FB's are all we need. It may change down the road.

    Thinking of you all

    Cheers!

I see that all these comments are from a few years back.  Right now, towards the end of 2007. I'm, depressed and am drinking a little much too much wine.  Am finding it hard to sleep and the wine

no longer helps.  My husband, who wasn't the best previously, has been wonderful, but I find it difficult to deal with the side effects of the hormone treatment regime, especially the aches and  pains associated with arthritis that had not bothered me before.  You all sounded so happy:  what am I missing?  I think I've tried to be too hard to be brave, at least have a brave facade, for loved ones and I've lost a part of what I should have felt a while ago.  Any advice?

Yes, you've been too brave.  We all tried that, it doesn't work once you are still and have time to think about it.  I think it's a good defense (denial)mechanism for a while tho.

Please scroll up and find the thread "hormone treatment".  You'll find a lot of info there for overcomming the side effects.

Another good advice: ck out antidepressants.  You don't have to be on them forever, but it sure helps get over this hump.  If you are already taking them, ck for another dosage or a med change.

Alcohol is good to get you to sleep and then rebound with waking you up in a couple of hours.  Try a few nights with Benadryl instead of wine.  I have taken up to 150mg (but I'm a big girl) and got some good sleep.

If that doesn't work, talk to your doc.  It may be time for xanax or something else for sleep.

As to a good white wine--7-8bucks a bottle, try Delacato.  Good stuff.  I like the merlot they have, too.

A friend recently bought a box wine: crisp white---it was delicious!

And it keeps in the fridge beautifully.  not sure of the company, but there can't be that many out there with that name.

    Adios Amigas!

Enjoyed our early Christmas with the kids and and spending some time with our newest granddaughter.  Both kids have packed up and left early, both are driving into ice storms.   Ice storm headed our way, so we've decided to leave in a few minutes for our trip rather than in the morning.   We've got reservations at a hotel near the airport.   Hopefully it won't get so bad that flights are delayed in the morning and we can get from the hotel to the airport.   Always something to throw a little hitch in the plans.

I'll toast you all each and every day!   See y'all later......

Hey!!! Is no one here drinking????? What up?

I'm on an antibiotic - again - for ear pain. No sure if it's an ear infection or a sinus infection but I sure the hell am sick of being sick! I swear that I've never been as constantly sick as I have been since ending chemo. UGH!

Other than that life is just grand!  :)  Miss Avery had her holiday picture taken this week and would NOT for anything smile for the photographer. It was cute in a way because it was SO obvious that she was fighting smiling but he didn't get but a few 'good' shots so that wasn't good but I chose one and that's the one that family will get for x-mas. As soon as I pick-up the pics I'll scan one and either post it here or e-mail it out. I'm very cautious now of her photo being plastered all over the internet for weirdos to see so please understand if I decide to e-mail it. She sure is a cutie!  :)

Work is still a four letter word but I've been dealing with the retail-hell stress of it all fairly well - no binges, all-night benders nor shoot outs to report on at this time! I'm looking forward (???) to my f/a re-training in ATL in Jan. and again in Feb. and I'll be giving my 2 weeks notice to Whole Foods as soon as I know my exact date of going back on-line which should be some time in March.

I've been seeing a VERY nice guy who I REALLY like, who seems to like me, too!  :)

I've been very bummed out lately because of all the 'bad' news on the boards and have tried to process it all but it hasn't been easy. I worry constantly about leaving Avery 'alone' but know that I have no control over it and all I can do is have a good plan for when that event eventually happens.

Anyway, all is fairly good around here. I hate the snow but it's a lot better than ice. Thankfully we didn't get it too bad here last week and all I lost was one white pine tree branch.

Well, cheers to all! I hope all my drinkin' are doing okay!

Janice - still here drinking.  Have been dealing with all the bad weather.  Ice and then alot of snow.  Some are still without power now - been a week.  I can't imagine life that long without electricity - we are so dependent on it.

I was needing to buy a couple bottles of wine - I have no clue what is good,(not a wine drinker) then I remembered some of you mentioning some good wines so I read back and took notes to take to the liquor store.  Thanks

Junie - have you made it back from Mexico yet?

Hope everyone has a great holiday - CY, thinking of you and praying your treatments have done their job

    Hey drinkin' buds~

Been out of pocket for a while.  Tulsa got slammed with the ice storm, and I was without power Mon - Fri last week.  I discovered I am NOT a pioneer woman.  Especially when it's 30 degrees!

Anywho - kept warm with some Hennessey Cognac.  Laughing

I'm at work now, and I'm the only person in my dept this week AND next week and feel like I'm drowning in work.

Janice - that's too funny about Avery making sure she did NOT smile for her picture.  She probably smiled all the way home!

Need to get back to the old salt  mines...

Everyone take care & stay warm.

    Cheers,

    Donna

Hola!--I'm baaaack!!!  We had a nice trip, but to console all of you who got caught up in the ice storm--there was a tropical depression and it was either cloudy or raining for a lot of the trip--bummer!   Made for a good excuse to just sit and drink.....

Happy news--son called about an hour ago--new granddaughter is here, could hear her yelling in the background!  Wow!  That's No. 8 !!  Hope these kids slow down now!  No way am I old enough to have that many grandkids!!

Bar in Arkansas is open again--bottoms up!!!

    Hey Buds~

Junie - glad you had a good trip, even if it wasn't sunny, I'm sure you were able to sniff out a bar or two Cool.  Congrats on the new grandbaby!  Number eight? WOW!

Thought I'd post my favorite holiday cocktail recipe.  I first had one of these at Bonefish restaurant recently and now it's my favorite holiday drink.

Winter White Cosmopolitan  (not only tasty, but pretty too)

I think this makes 2 drinks

    3 oz cranberry vodka

    1 oz Cointreau

    1/2 oz white cranberry juice

    wedge of fresh lime

    fresh cranberries for garnish

Pour vodka, Cointreau, and cranberry juice in shaker with ice. Strain into martini glass.  Squeeze juice from lime wedge, garnish with 3-4 fresh cranberries.

    Enjoy!

Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas!

    Cheers,

    Donna

Well, Merry Christmas to those of you who celebrate (I do not).

Same old, same old around hee. Just been chillin' with my baby girl . I've had the last three days off but have to pay by working the next five, two of which are closing shifts - ugh!

I've been drinking a 2004 CA Cab (Brownstone) which the new man also likes and it's a decent red for only $11. I've been laying off the scotch because I've lost my taste for it but I still enjoy the Vanille Royale occasionally (I highly recommend it!).

I can also recommend MacMurray Pinot Noir. It's not as light as most Pinots and it's only about $15 (more or less, depends on the store). I was told that Fred MacMurray's daughter runs the winery. I brought a Sauterne (a dessert wine) to dinner last night which was different. I've been liking port, also, and bought one yestersday but haven't tried it yet.

Well, Happy Holiday's to all my drinkin' buds! As soon as I reconnect my scanner to my computer I'll scan Avery's pic and then post it.

    Hey Everybody-

Janis- I sent a Christmas card, sorry-hopefully it did not offend you, Happy and Healthy2008 filled with lots of great times for you and Avery. New man? I have been gone too long! Good for you! Maybe this is the start of a really great year.

    Junie- congrats on new grandbaby!

Donna- I had to laugh at your White cosmo recipe...makes two? Not for you or me!

Hope you all had a great great holiday! Happy New Year!

Let's all meet up when the weather breaks. Look at the "get together" forum. I think susanmcm is whipping something up for the midwest girls.

Thought I'd jump in here (sipping my espresso martini)... I like this thread.  Donna, that White Cosmo recipe is going to get a test drive here.  Here's my current pick-me-upper:

3 shots Van Gogh Espresso-flavored vodka

    1 shot fresh brewed espresso

1 shot Starbucks coffee liquour (or Tia Maria, or Kahlua)

Shake vigorously in martini shaker, pour into chilled martini glasses (fills two medium-sized martini glasses or one large one, like mine)

Cheryl, I've been following your progress but not posting until now.  I'm wishing you the very best.

Welcome, Twink and Kad...Kad, please check back in here and let us know how you're doing--we'll always have a drink ready for you!!  And, if you can't have one, we'll have one for you!!!

Just letting y'all know that the bar in Ark is closed for a few days--again......packing AGAIN for NY Eve trip.   Taking damn dog this time and he needs his own suitcase--food, yummies, boot for foot, medicine/tape for foot/medicine for his seizures, leash, toys, water bowl/water....gawd--it's worse than packing for a two-year old!!!

Janis--looking forward to more pics of Aunt junie's niece--although some concern that there is little privacy here.  Maybe e-mail would be better?

New Year's Resolutions anyone?   Right now my first one is to, in 2008, wake up in my own bed, sleep on my own pillow--for 30 days--with no trips/company-----and, won't I be bored to death!!!  LOL

Finishing last one ML, then off to bed to be off again tomorrow.

Everyone, have a wonderful New Year's Eve!  Looking forward to 2008 and meeting up with a lot of my drinking buds!!!

Christine - no worries!  :)  I'm not a christian so I don't 'celebrate' christmas but I certainly was NOT offended by your card! It was nice to actually get a card.....

I slacked this year in sending out (holiday) cards. Too busy I guess.

And I promise to post a pic of Avery, Junie, as soon as I re-connect my scanner. I've been too busy with work and a toddler and whatever else to f**k around with computer wires and such! :o

Not much time to drink as I'm either working (some overtime), doing laundry, sleeping, playing with Avery or grocery shopping. Oh, and occasionally seeing my new man!  :)  This week I'm working 6 days in a row (how much does that suck?) but I'm off New Year's Day. I wish everyone here a happy, healthy and prosperous 2008!

And, welcome to all the newbies!  :)

    Cheers!

    Happy New Year Jaybird,

I see you have been into wine... My favorite is Chianti any brand but, if you find the ones with the rooster on it , they are the best.. I use to drink ports, my favorite but it adds on the weight.. Always have one bite of dark chocolate with every sip.. The better the chocolate the better the port taste.. On the side stuffed olives to break up the sweet... Wonderful addition to the port is grapes and a wedge of fresh parmesan eaten at the same time. Yummy.. Kad
