Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Independence Day! Sadie and I are going to camp out here at home, maybe take a trip to the lake in the peeyem, but not going to go far. Going to be too much traffic and craziness on the roads today as it is. And today, I think, will make the third day of temps over 90 degrees, making this an official heat wave. The heat is ok but the humidity is killing me. 79% already this ayem. Heat indexes hitting 100 in the peeyems, and there was a poor air quality alert yesterday, and could I feel THAT when I was outside!Got the new keys for the Jeep, so that problem should be over and done with. And the original key still hasn't shown up, which continues to baffle me. I'm really beginning to think that Sadie DID do something with it after all!Ah well, such is life, right?

Jazzy--I'll have to see about catching the Jurassic World movie.Haven't been to a movie is a long time.

Goldie--travel safe, and prayers for a good appointment!

Jazzy--prayers for an easy scan experience and good results.

Chi--What's the BiRad score? That will give you a good idea how concerned the radiologist is about the asymmetry.Having a personal store of blackberries isgreat, IF you can reach them!

    Mema--HOORAY, HOORAY, HOORAY!!!!!

Wacko, it's so nice to have you visiting The HTL. You have been missed.

LDB, hoping to read you got good result on those scans. My brother says they do that surgery (diverticulitus) laproscopically or robotically, is that how yours was done? Doing the Happy Dance (don't laff), you must have been on pins and needles Sue. OMG, so so happy for you!

NM, I don't think the main office will ever get their chit together. Glad office 2 is using you. Is it cost effective to use your heat pump AC as compared to a regular AC unit? Oh my, I can't imagine what it would be like to get sick on those cherry bombs. I can't eat those cherries to begin with! Sadie took the keys so you wouldn't have to go to work anymore and can spend EVERYDAY with her. She has been liking this new work schedule you have, and decided more days off would be even nicker! Cute cocktail with the flag, but why do they put raw eggs in cocktails? Never had one, so don't know if it's the flavor or what!

Jazzy, we will see the new Jurassic movie, but I want to see it in 3D. Big screen would be nice, but none around me. Glad the MRI is more of a "should be" rather than "need be". And good to know they told you there is no concern. Pretty sure you will have a good outcome, but will still say a prayer.

Sandy, do you munch on all of those berries until they are gone. Have you frozen any? We've tried to grow berries with no luck. I do have grapes tho.

Cami, I see your family is away, are at Jodi's? Certainly you are not home alone?

Travel and appt. yesterday were pretty uneventful. No more traffic coming up the mountain than any other time. TM's were just up teeny tiny bit. Doc said we will stay where we are for now, but he wants me to have scans in December. It will be 2 years at that point since my last scans. I guess that is fair, but I don't want them! So affraid of what they might show. Leaving Monday for 4 days, heading to Laughlin for mini vacay. Will go to the movies while there. Heading to the neighbors later today for a burger bbq. Mom's stuttering has stopped, attributing it to yet to another UTI. As it cleared, the stuttering has stopped.

    Happy 4th y'all!

    Love the meme, Jazzy!

    My BIRADS was 2. (Benign).

I try to pick the black raspberries when they're deeply ripe—in years past, a couple of quarts was a typical yield. Would be more, but Bob likes to grab s few to munch as he walks to the garage. Rabbits got all my strawberries, but they were soggy & tasteless anyway,

I don't really feel like getting dressed up to go downtown for dinner, so I have a skirt steak defrosted. Tomorrow night Bob wants me to stay down in Oak Lawn with him, but nobody would be taking care of the kitties (who get fed 4x a day—wet food at 11am/pm and kibble at 2am/pm). I'd leave out kibble for them to free-feed (as I used to) but they'd just gobble it all up at once. The vet chewed us out for doing that. Our housekeeper has her kids in for the holiday, Gordy has his own place (which while only 2 miles away is two long walks and a train or bus ride away—1/2 hr each way).

And his ex-GF, who had fed the cats in the past, is angry at us for no longer co-signing her lease (we're still paying nearly half her rent, used to let her live here and even put her through rehab). She just quit her job because “everyone around" her “is dying"—her grandma in home hospice for lung cancer, her mom (who'd moved to rural Alabama to go off the grid and not pay taxes) of Stage IV pancreatic. Now, if she were quitting (or taking leave) to go take care of either of them, I'd understand. But Grandma has two full time caregivers and will be leaving her a large inheritance; and there is no room down at or near her mom's place—and her stepdad is doing the caregiving. We had no obligation to her to begin with, much less to subsidize her sitting at home. She even has the nerve to be jealous of our supporting Gordy! (She said it isn't fair he gets to live in a fancy condo in a nice neighborhood while she doesn't. We pointed out that he's not in a condo—his tiny 1-BR is in a rehabbed building that was a former SRO hotel, in a dicier neighborhood than hers). He is our son, our own flesh & blood. She was good to him 16 years ago and then cheated like crazy on him. She's still jealous.

Back to DOTD--iced limoncello shots out on the deck tonight if we don't get invited to Gordy's rooftop fireworks-viewing. If it cools off a tad, we might walk to the beach to watch the Navy Pier display off in the distance. Last night, the firecrackers began at 12:01am.

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Thirsty Thursday! I hope everyone had a pleasant and safe 4th celebration. One of my neighbors put on quite the fireworks show that I watched for a bit. Sadie gets a bit skittish when fireworks go off, thank goodness the neighbors who set them off are good about stopping by 9 or 10 peeyem. There will be fireworks in the neighborhood every weekend now for a while. One of the few times Sadie will try to climb into my lap is when fireworks is going off, but as long as she is close to me she does ok. I keep one hand or a foot on her until the noise stops. Got to be hotter than the hinges of Hades here yesterday, going to be as hot today. Heat advisories out for this afternoon/early evening again. Thank the Good Lord for AC!

Goldie--I don't think the main office will get its act together any time soon, either. The heat pump is way more cost effective than the window AC unit I have in the bedroom, at least according to the info I have found. I only run the window unit at night so I can sleep and it does boost the electric bill quite a bit. I'll find out what the heat pump does to the electric bill when the next bill comes out. At this level of heat and humidity, I'm going to run it regardless of the electric bill, it's so hard to breathe when it's hot and muggy. They used to use raw eggs, or raw egg whites, in drinks to make them frothy, most places won't make those kinds of drinks anymore due to concern about eating raw eggs. Scans after 2 years seems reasonable, but I can understand you not wanting them at all. I'm not sure I could deal with that situation at all. Glad your Mom is better. It's funny how a UTI can affect older people. Have a good trip to Laughlin!

    Jazzy--LOL!!

Chi--A BIRADS of 2 is kind of comforting. The heat and humidity here has really put an end to the strawberry season, many berries are molding before they ripen. The season is so short as it is. I did get some this year, though. Only 3 quarts, but sliced and ate them with cream, very yummy. Wow, you have been really generous to an ex-GF of Gordy's, especially given she is an ex. Will you still be subsidizing her rent now that you are not co-signing the lease? Sounds like it's time she grew up and dealt with the consequences of her choices by herself, or is that being judgemental?Anything iced sounds good to drink right about now!

Illi-I'm guessing Blue Moon is a beer? It looks like fizzy iced tea! The view is FANTASTIC!

    Countess Bunty Rothschild's DOTD:

    Firecracker Cocktail Recipe

    Firecracker Cocktail

    Ingredients

    • 1.5 oz vodka
    • 1 oz lemon juice
    • 1.5 oz. blue curaçao
    • 1 oz. grenadine
    • Splash of simple syrup

    Instructions

    1. Make simple syrup - All you do is take ¼ cup of water and ¼ cup of sugar in a sauce pan over medium heat - stir until all the sugar is dissolved. Take the saucepan off the heat. Allow the syrup to cool ( it is THAT simple)
    2. Making the drink - take a tall glass and fill with ice. Slowly add grenadine.
    3. Next add blue curaçao - slowly --- the weight of the liquid is different than the grenadine thus it floats on top.
    4. Next take a shaker - place ice lemon juice, simple syrup and vodka. Cover and shake. Slowly add to the glass
    5. Garnish with a cherry if you like
    6. Enjoy!

Bob wants to keep subsidizing her rent (albeit only half of what we used to).

ChemaGo, that strawberry Daiquiri sounds perfect for this hot & muggw weather.

Just got back from my PCP, who cleared me for my surgery Tues. but put me on a plan to aggressively manage my asthma this summer--he's found the heat & humidity have created a thermal inversion that traps not only allergens but also pollutants. I'm not happy about having to take an inhaled steroid (can irritate vocal folds) but can work with my voice teacher on exercises to keep my cords "bulked up" to counteract the steroid spray's undesirable effect. He also put me on prescription Nasonex--says Nasacort is too weak and Flonase isn't as strong as Nasonex (and it smells awful)--and oral prednisone till after surgery.

Good Morning, Loungettes! It's official as of yesterday, we are in a heat wave. There is a cold front moving through today that will take out the humidity and drop the temps back to normal, which I'm looking forward to. Supposed to trigger some thunder bumpers today, hope I get to watch at least one. Working for office #2, should be about a half day, but can make up the hours with mandatory quarterly education. Then prep for class this weekend. Going to be a big class with atotal of 3! The small groups can be a lot of fun, but they do create a bit of a challenge in some ways. But that's ok. I wish I could take Sadie with me to class, but she'd be too big a distraction. Poor baby.

ChemGo-Welcome to the HTL!Pull up a barstool and tell us about yourself!Love the Strawberry Daiquiri, too.

Chi--I suppose your DH has a reason for wanting to subsidize Gordy's ex.I guess he's more generous than I would be. I hear you about the aggressive asthma management. Bad air can be a big problem and you geta lot more of that than I do. Better to stay on top of it, though.

    Countess Bunty Rothschild's DOTD:

    Thunder Cocktail

    - 1 1/2 oz brandy

    - 1 tsp powdered sugar

    - 1 pinch cayenne pepper

    - 1 eggs

Use a "Shaker" for Thunder drink recipe

Shake all ingredients with ice, strain into a cocktail glass, and serve.

    Serve in "Cocktail Glass"

    Morning DahhhLinks,

Hope all had a wonderful Independence Day. DH and didn't do anything except BBQ ribeyes with a big salad, corn cob, baked beans. My pooches were a bit nervous when the fireworks started but they weren't tooo bad. Not like my rottie who used to hide in the walk-in shower stall. LOL.

Loweee - my surgeon cut me open from stem to stern. Then the Doc DidNot wrap my chest and I ended up with the 2 hernias which required surgery 9 mos later. Reason was the mass was huge in my lower bowels, idiot surgeon thought it was my uterus, my DD was with me and we both said at the same time....but there is NO uterus. Should have taken that as a warning to go find a diff surgeon, o well, all water under the bridge.

Dara - what page are the pics of Logan? Went back a few pages but no luck in finding.

I too like strawberry marg's. Yummmmm

Not much to talk about but will keep u posted.

Cami- double MRI is having both girls done. I had lumpectomy vs. mastectomy so they have been wanting to do this test again just as a double check since one of my masses was found by MRI vs. imaging. Will let you all know how things go after I get the results. Praying for good outcome (and thanks to Goldie for her good wishes too).

Gordy had some very deep, dark days (incl. an unsuccessful suicide attempt) when he was 15--and his now-ex may have been the reason he came back from the brink. They were together for a couple of years, but she began cheating on him (and dropped out of college, getting in with a very bad crowd). Eventually, she became a good platonic friend and helped out with cat care when we and our housekeeper were away. She does have a few screws loose, because the apple doesn't fall far from the tree (her dad drank himself to death; her stepdad hated her because he didn't sire her; her mom is a recovering alcoholic too, sadly, didn't go into recovery soon enough to protect her pancreas), but her grandma--a wealthy psychologist with very unconventional techniques--isn't conventionally sane either (though she is still intellectually sharp, she is extremely controlling--threatening to cut her DGD off for getting conventional psychotherapy). Bob had always wanted a daughter (he felt his long work hours would keep him from being as good a dad to a son as he should), but once Gordy was born he of course bonded instantly. After I recovered from postpartum depression, we tried for two years to give Gordy a sibling, but gave up after the fourth esarly miscarriage. (I later found out that with my short luteal cycles and aging eggs, Gordy was indeed a miracle baby). So Bob has always viewed Gordy's ex as sort of a daughter (since her own family was extremely dysfunctional). But he has his limits--which is why he cut her rent subsidy by more than half.

Leslie is ok with that--knowing the ex is not part of Gordy's life and never will be.

All set for surgery Tues.--have a few caftans & larger front-close bras on the way to simplify getting dressed with my L forearm in a cast and then a hard brace. My EKG was perfect. Bloodwork fine too--except my glucose is on the high side (105) again, due to a long carb-heavy self-pity-party. Hemoglobin & hematocrit back in the normal range, as well as the rest of my blood count. And blessedly, we have a 10:30 surgery time, with 9:30 arrival--so no predawn drive up to the north suburbs this time (like we had for the trigger-thumb surgery we cancelled at literally the last minute).

My tomatoes are starting to fruit--some of them even beginning to ripen before they even reach full size.

Chi- you have been through a lot sister with your family issues. I am glad to hear Gordy is doing so well now and has a nice girlfriend. His ex sounded like she was not ever in a healthy family situation and your family's kindness may be the only true love she has ever known. I think you and Bob have been good to help her.

Will be in your pocket for the surgery on Tuesday and praying for good outcomes!

Good Morning, Loungettes! Boy did it rain some yesterday! Absolute downpours at times. Washed all the humidity out of the air, though. Humidity is down from 90+% to 67%, dew point down from 70 degrees to 45 degrees. Had to shut down all the fans overnight. Even had to put a light sweater on for a bit first thing this ayem, with the temp at 55 degrees when I got up. Today's big job is to get the class notes updated and reprinted for class next week. The big fun for this class is that it is in one room for the first 2 days, then in a different room for the last day. Meeting Mom and Dick for a bean suppah tonight. Sadie says "hi" to everyone.

Cammy--Yeah, the keys cost, but less than a major repair, so I'm trying to keep a positive outlook on it. And If I stay busy I stay out of trouble, mostly, anyway! I'm really impressed with the way you keep working on learning new things, new phones, new computer stuff, whatever you meet you accept and work on learning! I wish more younger people was as open to learning as you are!

Mema--Sadie and I lounged in the new AC on Independence Day and loved it. But I like being able to open the windows and not melt the minute I step outside much better. Glad to be able to do that again this weekend. Are you saying a surgeon mistook a tumor for a uterus AFTER you had a hysterectomy??? Um, something very wrong there.

Jazzy--Hooray for the arrival of the monsoons! Amazing how much better a good rain can make the air feel!

Chi--Ah, now I can see why there is a connection with Gordy's ex. Hopefully your support will make a difference in her life. Sounds like Gordy is quite the miracle baby! Praying for Tuesday and planning to be in the pocket for the party!

Janky--And I thought Maine weather was variable and unpredictable! At least we don't get snow and 90 degree temps in the same week once we get past spring.

    Countess Bunty Rothschild's DOTD::

    Strawberry Cosmopolitan

    Ingredients

Muddle the cointreau and lime juice with all but one half of the strawberries in the bottom of a mixing glass. Add vodka and ice, shake well, and strain into a martini glass. Garnish with the reserved strawberry half, and serve.

Best served in a Cocktail Glass.

    Mornin' Ladies,

Sandy thank u for sharing, I can now see why there is a connection and how wonderful u and Bob have been to a woman who has been broken in family ways and like Jazzy said u shared ur family with her and for her to ever help Gordy she has to be appreciated. I guess too I was hoping this didnt affect Leslie, cuz his relationship with her sounds like it is going so well. And I'm sure u went thru such hard times in Gordy's younger years and I wanted nothing to stopGordy from having a wonderful future. Well we'll be hanging around ur pocket Tuesday and I'll report if any really good looking drs. are in there, so watch what u say.

Jazzy ur pics are just bootiful, I can't believe ur sky getting to sunset, it looks like fake skies t me, it's so perfect. My fav. is you laying comfortably on the lounge chair---great pic of you.

SusieQ pics of Logan are on FB. He is so pretty, yes at that age u can use that word.

Janky I remember years ago people would say Canada has 9 months of winter and 3 months of slush, so u must be in a heatwave. My oldest DD went to Canada once on a vacation and she loved it, it was summertime but she thought it was perfect. That's really all I know about Canada.

BTW Sandy I didn;t miss it, there is no "p" in Jodie's pool well at least not mine. ick.

Jodie is coming over soon to help me with my shower and Joey is going home with her til tomorrow. So he loves that, plus Jode's daughter and him get along so good even thos she's 17 they work well with each other. He told me her bedroom was painted and all redecorated and it looks wonderful. So again stupid me asks what color did they paint it <Joeys colorblind> and he said well most things look beige to me so who knows. I keep on asking colors from him, never thinking and i'm the one who detected he was color blind and then confirmed by a Dr. LOL.

    Have a great day everyone

Morning all - another hot and sunny day, possible heatwa e again, yippee! It poured rain and thundered during the night so I wasn't sure what today was gonna be...Glad it is sunny as we are off to a friend's 65th birthday, lots of good food and bevvies!! This is not the exact place for this question but I am asking anyway...I am seriously considering DIEP reconstruction, the PS I saw Thursday says I am a good candidate (as long as I remain stable between now and surgery in about 4 months) and my medical team approve. I go for scans July 18 so will see what has happened since April (improvement I am praying for)! Anyone here have reconstruction at stage 4?

nm - Alberta has the weirdest weather of Canada, though many other provinces are starting to experience different things - probably global warming or some such thing. Maine is one of my very favorite states, we spent many a happy vacay there when I was a kid (64 now)!! and my bff from childhood and I were reminiscing about it on Wednesday night!!

cami - what you heard is right, only now it seems like only 2 months of summer slush, as I said, last night we had a huge rainstorm :(

Seems like a long post for a bright and early, sunny day - have a great weekend all - cheers!! j

Sunny, dry, mid-70s--perfect weather, typical for summer....in San Diego. Not complaining, of course.

Yesterday we went out to a farm-to-table place in Evanston called Kinship. With our apps, had Veuve de Vernay brut rosé; and with the steak I shared with Bob, a little of his Nero d'Avola (from Sicily). DOTD today is lots of hot black coffee to keep my asthma at bay.

Chi - funny how the expression ‘walk a mile in their shoes’ before judging is so very true. I’d always assumed you were one of those groovy ladies...the one that has musical talent, kickazz sense of humor, travels to wonderful destinations & a happy family life....and yes you have all that. To an outsider it seems like it’s all been a breeze. What you relayed about your son, well, speaks volumes to not assuming anyone has/had it easy. At 16 my son showed me a letter he had written to no one. A letter that cut my legs out from under me.It was, well, you know how it feels...there aren’t words to describe the abject terror a parent goes through...and the worry lingers....and lingers. He’s 22 now, and by all accounts happy and well adjusted. I still can’t relax. So tell me groovy lady, does the fear end? Fade? Where does one put the fear?

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Sunday Funday! Guess what I found this ayem? Yup, the keys. Grabbed the bathrobe off the hook and PLUNK, the keys fell onto the floor. What they were doing in the bathrobe is a mystery, and how they jumped out of the bathrobe pocket is an even bigger mystery. At least now I have a key I can give to Mom to have in her wallet for emergencies, one that will be sure to work! I'm convinced Sadie picked up that key and put it there so I wouldn't find it. You should have seen the look on her face when the key hit the bedroom floor! She looked soooo guilty, and then scooted out of the room! Such a crazy life I have.

Janky--I had bilateral DIEP recon, but am not stage 4. If you want I can PM you a bunch of tips and tricks that might make recovery a bit easier. What part of Maine did you vacay in? Hope your weather stays good.

Chi--You've discovered the lots of coffee = less asthma connection, too? It's really good for those of us who really like coffee, built in excuse!

    .Mornin" Ladies,

Hi Egads, I don't remember u on here, but then again so many things I dont remember, so Welcome. I''m sure Sandy will be able to help you.

Janky, Janky Janky, In the middle of a weather report u ask about recon then go back to the report---that's cracking me up. I do know there is a lot to think about tho. My sister and I both declined only because of our age. Our originals were hanging anyway so we didnt care. But her DD didn't do it either <in her 4?'s>My DD went for it and did it. Ten infections started, but everything is clear now--she does in Aug. need another operation to even things out, whatever the hell that means---this is so personal with so many stories and I don't even know what I'm talking about so wait til other people weigh in for decent advice. <hey I just started my coffee>

I didn't go to my cousins house last nite, planned to, but didn't feel well, I get so mad when I can't do something I want to do. But some of it was going at 7PM, I'm usually way slowed down <my body> to do much anymore---I shouldn't say mad but frustrated. I'm blest to have what I have and do what I do, chit I even have a job and have no clue what these guys are talking about.

O I've been blabbering enough, so Ill close for now.
