Sandy....not the foot but the ankle area.....it really wasn't bad....I've had 3 wrist surgeries, two on my right wrist (bc side) and 1 on my wrist. Thankfully so far, no LE and its been 8 years since the last one. Wishing you a speedy and easy recovery.

My ankles are not in such hot shape, having been sprained so many times since I was a teen that I've lost count.

My LE specialist wrote me back, saying that BP & I.V. are "relative risks," but that I am "at low risk for lymphedema." He says that if the R arm needs to be used for BP, I should ask the anesthesiology team to use a manual cuff and not inflate it past 180 systolic.

In April, I flew to Rome & back, with short (extremely short, it turned out, due to long departure delays at O'Hare & Rome) stopovers at JFK. I was wearing my wrist brace, and though it was possible to don R arm compression (I tested it out), I didn't don it for the ORD-JFK leg, thinking I could duck into the restroom at JFK an hour before flight and don it. Well, due to having to change terminals and go through TSA all over again at JFK, I barely made it on to my flight to Rome (I literally had to sprint--well, limp as fast as I could--from security to the gate). By then, I'd forgotten all about compression--I was just trying to get comfortable wearing the brace in Premium Economy. When I landed in Rome, my R hand ring was so loose it almost fell off in the washroom. So I didn't bother for the return trip (Business Class this time). Again, nothing happened.

I've been pretty nervous since nicking the ends of my R radius (elbow & wrist ends) last week, but so far, no swelling. Been doing a little MLD massage on it just in case.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Well, yesterday turned into an interesting day. Got ready for work and could not find the car keys. I've tried very hard to maintain the habit of hanging the car keys on the hook next to the door when I come home. Occasionally, if my hands are full and I've put the key in my pocket, I'll discover that later, and make a point of putting the key on its hook, or on the bedside stand on top of my phone. No key on the hook, no key on the stand, no key in the pockets of the pants I wore, so I figure I left them in the car. Go to the car, no key in the ignition or the drink holder where it goes when it's not in the ignition. No key in the purse. I did a thorough search of the car, thinking it had fallen or been dropped, no key. So I go back in the house, notify work that I'm running late due to lost keys, and systematically go through the house room by room. No key. Called work, changed my visits to Saturday, called Mom and asked her to bring me the key she keeps in her wallet (when I travel she and Dick will pick up the Jeep at the airport and keep it at their place, and take it back the day I come home to minimize parking fees, her having a key makes it easier). Go back and thoroughly clean out the Jeep, thinking I'd find the key that way.No key. Clean car, but no key. Cleaned a lot of trash out of the garage to the dumpster, in the rain, thinking the key may have been dropped on the floor. No key. Went through all the piles of clothes in the bedroom, got all the clean clothes put away and the floor swept up, still no key. Dick delivered their key, so I can drive again (no remote for the doors, but that's a minor detail). I've even searched Sadie's crate and still no key. I really don't know what has happened to that key.It has to be here, the key had to be in the ignition for the Jeep to drive me home the other day, so it around here SOMEWHERE. I'm hoping it will turn up in some obscure and amusing place sometime in the next couple of days. If only Sadie could talk, she probably knows right where that key is!

Goldie--It's hard to chuckle at Mom's backseat driving, she shrieks and stomps her foot and flails around andit startles me. She's better if we're in my car, but then I have to listen to how it smells like dog and is dusty and when was the last time I shampooed the seats and on and on. We did get some rainyesterday, 0.84 inches worth. The gardens are just flourishing!

Mema--step one done, got the scan scheduled. Praying for clean scan results! Have fun in LV.

Chi--so Gordy's moving out on his own! That's a big change for everyone. Boy do you have a lot to think about. I can help with one question--there is research done by the Oncology folks in Boston that shows that a sterile IV start in an arm at risk for LE does not increase the risk. It's the immune response that causes extra fluid to be sent to the area and that overwhelms the lymphatic system. Blood pressures are still not recommended, but blood pressures can easily be done on a leg, it's just less convenient for the medical folk. Hugs.

Jazzy--HOORAY for good yearly scan results!

Chi--that is quite the list of pros and cons. There are a lot of stem-cell based "therapies" popping up that are not yet proven. It can be hard to tell which are researched based and which are, as you say, hucksters.

    Mornin Ladies,

Sandy I think u do more research than ur Dr., does, but my thinking <which is non thinking> I would go ahead with surgery. it sounds so complicated to me, but in the long run of things it would end up with better results and I think ur music is very important to u. July 10th is right around the corner, no matter what u do u'll be wrapped like a semi mummy, but at least with surgery u have a better chance of using things again, well thats how it sounds to me. How does it really feel having Gordy move out??? That's big adjustment, oh for him too. But it sounds exciting. Does Bob have big feelings about it???

Glad to hear about tests. <as u can see>

Kim ur keys, OMG what a search. I still think sadie has something to do with it. We have all weather advisories here for super hot <no doubt humid> weather her for the next few days. leslie and joey are going to my other DD's home for swimming tomorrow. She's order new steps for the ool so I can get in and out so I'll wait til she gets them. I'm no adventurer.

Lori u mom sounds like me, I have so many imaginary pedals on the floor and mirrors all over and my hands are always holding on to something ahead of me And every so often a little scream comes out of me, everyone loves driving with me. How''s it going for ur DD lately???

Oh Ive stopped so far with 4 calls. My last one last nite was midnite and Dan was on a job, he finished the job came here and we talked til almost 4am, been up since after 6am with the phones Holy chit I'm tired. I do love when he comes but we always talk to late.

    Catch u later

    Hi gals,

I am babysitting my grandson Logan as he watches Paw Patrol On Demand so thought to pop in for a minute.

I went to a Phillies game last night with my brother, his gf and my cousin Cheryl. They won the game, wooo hooo. We had really great seats, just behind first base. Two foul balls came our way. Instead of trying to catch them, I duck in fear of getting hit. It was great fun. My brothers gf got the tickets from another doctor she deals with. She has a cushy job as admin for three medical centers.

Sue, sending love and prayers for good scans. Miss you girl.

Lori, are you away again? Hope things are going better with your Mom.

Chi, you have been through it huh? Hoping you make the right decision and that things get better quickly.

Cam, you and Dan make it a habit of spending the wee hours of the night together, good for you. I do like that Dan.

NM, hope they keys turn up. I was going to suggest you check Sadie's crate but see you did that, I too think she has something to do with this mystery!

Hi Jazzy, Karen, Ingerp and anyone else I may have missed. Love n hugs to all!

Cami, I take it the reason your DD has an "ool" is because she won't allow any "p" in it?

I'm so proud of Gordy--he has gotten really organized. When you realize that nobody will be picking up after you, you become a believer in "a place for everything and everything in its place." I would have to call him if I want to come over, though--tenants are issued only one key, which has a microchip and costs $25. Still gathering stuff for him--giving him some of my pots & skillets. His bathroom lacks a towel rack, so I ordered an over-the-door one like in our bathroom. Neither AC installer nor bed have arrived--so he's staying over at Leslie's for the weekend. (She showed him how to make a hospital-corner bed today--he's only familiar with fitted sheets & comforters and had no idea what the flat sheet in the set is for). I miss him terribly, but I realize it was time--he didn't have any space here he could truly call his own and not have to share with family or guests.

No potent potables for me till late next week--I truly overindulged on Wed.!

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Saturday!Got to work today to make up for missing Thursday due to the car key incident. Car key is still missing. I am still baffled. And still hoping it turns up. I did not realize how handy the remote door opener was until now! Anyway, should only be about a half day today. It has come off hot and humid here, and I am so glad for the air conditioning function of the heat pump, and amazed that it can actually throw the cool air all the way to the bedroom! Sadie seems to like it, too.

Cammy--I'm beginning to think Sadie did take the keys and do something with them! She's smart enough to connect the keys with me leaving for work. Swimming sounds nice, maybe Sadie and I will go swimming tomorrow if the heat holds. The steps for the pool will be great for you! Glad you had a good visit with Dan, even if it was an all nighter.

    Dara--ah, Logan time, what fun!

Chi--Good for Gordy! I've got to admit I like comforters more than the sheet and blanket routine. Making up the bed only takes seconds!

LDB, praying praying praying hard for you!

Cami, I could not keep your hours! And it was NM's mom that was the "backseat driver", not mine. How nice that your DD is getting new steps for her pool for you. I hope you are able to enjoy it this summer. My DD is doing ok.

Wacko, no I am not gone, I is home. Babysitting Logan, how fun. How is he? Good? Into everything? Active?

Sandy, good luck to your son on his move.

NM, how funny if it really was Sadie that took the keys, cuz she didn't want you to go to work!

Had teeth cleaned yesterday, picked up the truck, another $1000. Garden this morning, need to fertilize everthing. Happy SaTURDay all.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Sunday Funday! This Loungettes is going NOWHERE today. Staying home. Not dealing with the Jeep issue. What is the Jeep issue, you may ask? The missing key is the issue. I was at work yesterday, finished my visits, was finishing up some paperwork in the parking lot. Jeep was running, AC on, since it was almost 90 degrees and nearly 100% humidity. Saw a couple of ladies running into the nursing home lobby, then saw an elderly gentleman lying on the ground next to a car. Turned off the Jeep, ran over, helped take care of him until the ambulance came (he was coming to pick up his wife and take her home, lost his balance stepping up onto the curb and fell). Went back to the Jeep to finish up, and it would not start. It has done this a couple times the day before, I thought it was the unusual heat, waited a few minutes and tried again, and it would start. Didn't work this time. Called AAA. The guy came out to jump the car, but the issue wasn't the battery (I didn't think it was, the battery is less than a year old). He thought it was the starter. Towed me to VIP. The guy at VIP got in it and it started right up. We were talking about what had happened when it started happening again (it would turn over and then stall out). They ran the check engine light code (it's been turning on and off with nothing to be found wrong for a while, thought being it was a bad sensor and eventually we would be able to figure out which sensor and replace it) and it came up unauthorized key. Seems the key I am using, which is a copy I had made at a local hardware store is considered "after-market" and is not a "real" Jeep key and the chip is not reliably talking to the engine computer, so the engine computer has been kicking in the anti-theft function and not allowing the car to start and stay running. I need to get a "real" Jeep key and have it programmed. The "real" key has to be ordered from somewhere. So I have now ordered 2 "real" keys (which will have the remote door opener function, yeah!) and have an appointment to have them programmed Tuesday afternoon. My first plan was to leave the Jeep there and use a rental car for a couple of days. I never realized it was not possible to find an open rental car place in that town (I was halfway between home and the second office) on a weekend day. So I ended up going back to the shop and getting the car and I'll have to take my chances with it and pray the chip keeps talking to the engine computer at least a little bit so I don't get locked out entirely for 24 hours. Oh, and the two keys will cost almost $400.Just shaking my head on that one. But better than needing a new starter!

Goldie--how funny if Sadie has hidden the keys, indeed! I hope she didn't realize the trouble it would cause!

Janky--hmm, a Canadian DOTD?I'll have to see what I can find! And Sadie has not returned the keys yet.

    Hello loungettes,

Hoping everyone is staying cool and comfy. We are in a heat wave in the eastern US, the weather guessers are saying high's of 100. It is after 11pee em here and 85 degrees. I had a fun day at the pool with my cousin, my daughter and the handsome Logan. He sure enjoys the pool, especially playing the new basketball game we just got for him.

NM, sorry for the car troubles, my brother is having a similar issue with his truck's computer reading that he is trying to steal the car. Sorry the resolution is so expensive. Hope the Jeep starts and continues to run while you wait for the new key!

Happy Belated Canada Day to you Janky.

Good morning, Loungettes!Happy Monday Monkey Day! Sadie and I had a lovely day of doing next to nothing yesterday. Enjoying the AC function of the heat pump big time. Now to get through a couple days of work, get the new Jeep keys, and I've got a day off to recharge. Got to back off from this 4 day a week schedule some, even though I do love the way it's making the checking and savings account look.

    Janky--YW, happy Canada Day!

Jazzy--Those are some great cocktail recipes! Thanks for sharing!

Dara-- I saw some of the pics of Logan at the pool on FB, he is growing so fast! He looked like he was having a grand time. I'm praying the Jeep keeps going for the next couple of days, too. Expensive to fix, but less expensive than other things would be! Sorry you have to drink plain old water, but glad you are doing it.Gotta stay hydrated!

    Afternoon DahhhhLinks!!

I got my bone scan and torso PET Thurs & Fri. Will get results at my MO's appt tomorrow. Hopefully they will be good enuf to schedule my surgery. I will of course, let you all kno what that might be.

Janky, I'm eating a banana a day too….supposed to help with the leg cramps/spasms. Stretching the feet is also very helpful. Praying all is good and you can book your trip. I'm going to think positive for both of us to have good results.

NM - I'm so proud of you and Lowee for your gardening skills. I do NOT have a green thumb. I kill all my plants except the philadendrum(sp).

Cami - I sleep and wake not knowing what day it is. Even when I nap (if I fall asleep) I'll wake and wonder is it day or night-time. LOL. I love your stories about the nuns we had to put up with. Thank you for your congrat post for me. Did I tell you all that my DH has given up red-meat. Now only turkey and chicken? He is also cutting back his portions. I'm so proud of him.

Lowee - LOLROTF about ur brother and what the docs are watching…ref the 'hole', LOL. But having gone thru surgery for diverticulitis I kno is not fun and I'm sending lots of luck his way. Lowee, my labs show my potassium levels in normal range…so I jes don't kno. I like the DOTD u posted tho.

Rock - WOW your vacay sounds simply marvelous. I saw that CostCo is running a special for an all inclusive vacay to Tahiti. I've always wanted to go and stay in one of those huts out over the water.

Am still thinking about it for late in 2018, will have to see how the surg goes and how I feel by the booking deadline. Good luck on your MRI…I'm gonna think positive again, jes for you.

Inger - Have a GR8 time with your youngest. ….sounds like he deserves the best you have.

Sandy - DH bought me a walker, one with a seat. Haven't used it yet, but feel like it won't be long, LOL. I have to laugh to keep from crying.

OOOO just read Rock's addition, MRI all good….yay…happy dance time!

Jazz - YIPPEE…on your mammo and us.

Dara - yes I still want to call u dork. LOL. Yes, how is that wonderful, handsome Logan?

Well, I must pack for the next 2 days…for all those I missed, jes kno I think and pray for all of you every single day.

Everyone STAY SAFE this 4th of July….

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy 4th of July Eve! HHH in the weather for the rest of the week--Hazy, Hot and Humid. The Heat pump as AC is WONDERFUL! Went in to the main office yesterday ayem, no visits on the list, Clinical Manager #4 didn't know I was available (she gets the email every week just like everyone else) but, to use her own words, she doesn't pay any attention because CM #1 takes care of that. Well, CM #1 is on vacation. I got an email later in the day from CM #5 (who also gets the email every week) asking when I am available this week.Had to reply that I'm booked by the other office for the rest of the week. Frankly, having the day off was a good thing, but I wish I could have slept in a bit. Oh well.Going forward it will be "here are the dates I'm available, call to book me" to make sure I'm really needed (or wanted, as I know of 2 nurses who really needed help yesterday despite my being told otherwise). So yesterday I got grocery shopping done, and then chilled at home in the AC and watched disaster movies and got caught up on some much needed rest. Got up with a lot more energy today (visits for second office were put on my list yesterday, the office director sent me an e-mail to confirm and thank me for the help), so I know exactly what the plan is for today, which includes getting the new keys for the Jeep.Off for the 4th, then a couple days of work for office #2, then a week of teaching and no Hospice staffing drama, yeah! Silly Sadie is hanging out in the heat and humidity and not running around much, but seemed happy to have me home yesterday.

    Mema--Praying for good scan results.

Well, dang it, my BS has put in orders for me to have a double MRI now. Not totally surprised as we have been talking about it for awhile and the imaging center brings it up about every time. The BS told me last year we probably should do it next time around and got the call the orders have been submitted.

I called the imaging center to get the cost as you know these tests are not cheap and plans these days cover less. I will have to pay 1/3 of it, so at least I know. Anyways, I am sucking it up and have an apt to get it done next week. One of my masses was found by MRI, so they have been itching to do an update on this for awhile. The radiologist said last week there was nothing of concern after my mammo and US, so we go in with that knowledge. My MRI apt is next Tuesday, 7/10 then I see her later on in July for my yearly check up.

Although these tests are never fun, I consider them to be an important part of knowing how we are doing in the post treatment world. I will let you know how it all goes. I know a number of you are going through tests and scans right now as well and prayers for everyone to be doing okay!

Jazzy, do you have dense breasts? Maybe that's why they want to do the double MRI this late in the game just to confirm the accuracy of your normal mammos. (I notice the radiology report on my most recent bilateral mammo mentioned a L “asymmetry," but that it's unchanged since 2014–a year before my R one showed up. And that R one nearly doubled in size between discovery and lumpectomy—roughly a month). None of my other mammos mentioned anything about the L, except “normal scattered fibroglandular densities.”

At any rate, “in your pocket” and have a happy Fourth

Chi- well, I used to have dense breast prior to menopause but don't hear that as much these days. They have wanted the MRI because of the bilateral dx and having double lumpectomy and a lot of scar tissue on each side. Because of that, they cannot always see every thing they want to with the other types of imaging. Plus, my DCIS was found on the right side via MRI after the initial IDC was confirmed by mammo and biopsy (surprise!) The imaging center always recommends it, but the BS said she did not have a strong feeling about it either way. But last year, she thought we should get an updated one on both sides, but did not push on it to get done in 2017. So I am not totally surprised, but thought we might talk about it at my yearly visit, but she wants it done before, of course. Glad I started the process earlier this year given there are extra tests to do before I see the BS. We will have the results well in advance of my apt with her on the 27th.

You have a good holiday too. I was glad to hear Gordie made it out on his own and know you really miss him, but hopefully see him and his GF often!

Janky- I have been having a bunch of check ups this summer and so far everything has been good. These MRIs are more of a double check vs. having something wrong as they were last time. I like your way of saying a check to be sure everything is still good and that is what these tests are. Unlike the mammo and US where they come in and tell me, I will have to wait a bit for the results on this one.

Watch out for noisy fireworks and escaping pets!

We wanted to go see the Jurassic movie this weekend, but both of us are coughing & sneezing so much the other patrons would chase us out of the theater with pitchforks & torches.

Our black raspberries are beginning to fruit. They were growing out of control, to the point we've had to step off the path to get around them to reach the garage's side door. Had been reminding the landscaper about his promise to trellis them, but we gave up and my housekeeper bungee-corded them into submission. Yesterday I went out back—and instead of being trellised, they were cordoned off and enclosed on all sides by lattice—un-reachable for picking except the ones at the very top. Worse still, he left the nightshade vines in place (trellised in with the berries). I had specifically requested that the nightshades, however pretty, be removed for safety’s sake. I hate to criticize the guy’s work, but I’m gonna have to have him address that—maybe turn one of the trellis sides into a door we can open for picking. Seems a shame to let a bumper crop go to waste.
