Jazzy, you were asking before about how things are on St. John. The schools were destroyed and just recently they got containers to use as classrooms, which will now make it so they just never rebuild the schools (2 of them). Also, the airport on St. Thomas still hase no AC, and I think some other things. My DD says the containers are such an eye sore. She is hopeful that things pick up next year in tourism.

Happy Funday Friday - it has been a while since I have been around, lots going on, all good, but exhausting - getting ready for 5 weeks in Australia, leaving tonight! I have been reading posts sporadically and missing my conversations :( As I will be really 'out of touch' for the next while I thought I would just let you all know. I will check the posts while down under, but won't be very active. I had scans done Wednesday and my nuclear bone shows stable - yayyyy! so wanted to share good news. I will think of everyone, keep you in my prayers and positive thoughts while away, then look forward to 'reactivating' myself when I return in mid November - Cheers Janice

Goldie - I loved the pictures of you and your daughter, they were so cute and you and your daughter are beautiful.

Dara - I am so happy about your new job. I hope that it is all you hope it will be.

Jazzy- I love your balloon pictures and the festival looked like so much fun. One day I hope to travel that way and see it in person. My husband and I were planning to travel when I stopped working. (2-1/2 years) . I am not sure how it will work now, it may be a little different plan, but I still plan to travel.

Cami- I hope you are feeling better, you great positive attitude comes through even on the computer. I know you must be such a blessing to your family.

ChiSandy - You go though one thing after another, I was hoping that after the root canal you would be done for awhile. You are so right about going through each others passwords and information. I am learning that now. I wish I paid more attention when my husband was telling me about our paperwork/bills etc. I am now having to learn on the fly.

NativeMaine - you sound as if you and Sadie will be having a busy time traveling. Have fun with your cousin.

I am slowly working through all the things I need to do. My older kids are always there to help with anything I need done. I have my youngest son, Christopher still living at home. He may always be there, he is 23 yrs old and has aspergers. He is doing good stepping up and doing more around the house. He has made dinner a couple of times and is keeping the animals fed. I sometimes have a hard time believing that Tommy is gone and still expect to see him when I walk into a room. I am most the time ok and stay pretty busy, but some times are harder and expect that when I get all of the paper work done, I will have time for me to process it all and sit and be sad alone. We will all be fine, because life goes on and I told Christopher that it is ok to be happy and have fun, you don't have to be sad all the time. He was feeling guilty if he laughed .

Well, if I don't do something, that front incisor will keep moving forward till it falls out--and that would be a huge no-no due to Prolia. Exposed bone is always dangerous for those at risk for ONJ. The ortho will tell me what method is safe for me. Not looking to have a gorgeous smile--just a fully-functional and stable one. (I have a Maryland bridge for one tooth on my lower arch, but that was done over a decade before I got breast cancer, and had not yet been on any bone drugs at the time).

We sort of knew this might happen. At age 10 I fell on my face, and needed braces to rein in the severely jutted out tooth (and its slightly less-crooked neighbors). Our family dentist (a family friend), not an orthodontist, did my braces. They kept breaking and coming loose, and the rubber bands hurt like hell (and nothing relieved the pain, which lasted for at least a week after each tightening). I was not a compliant patient, and those braces stayed on till literally a week before my wedding at age 20. We couldn't afford orthodontia as law & grad/med students during our 7 years in Seattle, and I didn't see a dentist till I got a toothache in 1977.

When I arrived in Chicago 40 years ago, my Seattle dentist gave me referrals to a periodontist and an orthodontist. The ortho said what I'd need in addition to braces (the full-Monty metal-mouth) first was maxillofacial surgery to realign my upper & lower jaws so that the lower incisors wouldn't hit the upper ones and cause them to start protruding again once the braces were off and the retainer no longer needed. I also had to have four bicuspids removed due to severe crowding (small mouth, big teeth), which was a separate matter. (One was partly impacted, another abscessed, so that procedure was warranted). But we didn't have dental insurance; and our HMO not only refused to cover the maxillofacial realignment even if performed in-network (apparently, preventing loss of teeth or relieving TMJ was "not medically necessary") but warned it wouldn't cover any complications. We couldn't afford the $30K (yes, even in 1978) out-of-pocket, nor any costs of complications. The orthodontist grumbled "even shopgirls finance this, and you're a lawyer married to a doctor" (albeit a resident). Bob said at the time, "So you'll eventually lose your teeth--millions of people wear dentures."

End of discussion--in 1979 I got just the extractions & braces, which I wore for three years (not the 8 I wore them as a kid) and then got a retainer. (I was able to handle the rubber band pain because by then Advil was OTC--I took it for cramps--and stopped the pain as fast as a day after each tightening). All was good until one night in 1983 on vacation in my best friend's Nova Scotia home town, when we went first to a tavern that liked my band's demo tape so much (it was written by and featured on lead vocal said best friend, and thereby satisfied the then "Canadian content" entertainment law) that they kept the beers coming (Alexander Keith's). I had no idea Canadian beers were so much stronger than American ones. After that, we were invited to continue the party at the home of my friend's friend--where I'd been promised coffee but was instead presented with a cocktail of Andre bubbly & Jack Daniels. The party was in the backyard, by the apple orchard. I eventually had to upchuck; but being a properly-raised Jewish princess, instead of doing so out back by the trees, I ran inside to the bathroom. I hit my mark (the toilet) but unfortunately so did my retainer. I flushed before I realized it was gone. I was too embarrassed to go back to the orthodontist to get another retainer (which we couldn't have afforded). So there went four years of orthodontia. And here I am now.

    Mornin Ladies,

Good to read u Misty and yep it sounds like a lot of studying and learning u have to do and it's not easy. I'm sure u know by now that there are a lot of people who could possibly help u here for suggestions <no, no not me> If I could I would be more than happy, but with my limited amount of knowledge I'd get u as far as I got myself, no where, but some of these ladies are so smart and independent they certainly can get u started. I always offer other people's services cuz I really have smart people in mind.

Well along came midnite and guess where Leslie was---YEP in the hospital, oy vey, I told her to just stop this nonsense, I CAN'T TAKE ANYMORE, so after my yelling and tyrannical actions she was home---more infections---she's driving herself nuts---more anti-B's and no more foobs, WTF I can't keep up anymore, my other DD called and said what should I do??? I told her go to sleep, what else can u do......... I know I sound terrible, but not all the time. Oh OK sometimes.

The weather here is cool for now, don't have a clue how long it's going to last and if I go to my cousins' house tomoree another have to figure what to wear, ain't easy ladies. OK let's see what today brings, I pray just good things for all of us.

Janky, you have a most awesome trip to Austrailia, someone here will drink for you.

Thanks Misty for your kind words, DD and I have fun playing. Glad to hear you are coming along. I don't know what I would do if I lost my DH, especially living out where we do.

Jazzy, sorry about all mouth problems and then bumping it on the toilet and losing the retainer!

Cami OMG, Leslie can't catch a break. Sending more prayers out to her and you and the family. I did 8 more pints of maters yesterday, my kitchen is a mess, it will take me a half a day to clean it!

Good morning friends- happy weekend! Another crazy busy week at work but I made it through. We got everything done to be ready for our pilot and now we will be waiting to hear how the end user experience goes. The fun thing for this week was a rooftop burritos and balloons event at work where we could see the mass ascension from the north! I wish I had thought to bring my better camera with the telephoto lens, but did not think of it until I was there. It was a nice gathering and got to meet one of their new clients that was in town for some meetings. Glad to be to some me time now as I have been working non stop for them for the past two weeks. I like the extra money, but I end up getting behind on self care, home care, etc.

We are in the last few days of the balloon fiesta and I am watching the launch right now on the TV. They have had about three events cancelled so far, two glows and one morning ascension. They have about 14 events between the 9 days this goes on, and so if you only get a couple cancelled, its a good thing. Some years, the weather is not good and we have had half or more cancelled and people are not too happy. I went outside to see if anything is floating through the hood as they do the rides from over here and so far, just a few but further to the east of me. Next year I will be doing my first ride ever.

Weather here has been dropping in temp and rain around. Supposedly there is a big cold front coming through tomorrow night and so I need to get my house plants in before the possible freeze. The last few years, the freeze as not been until well in to November but we are supposed to have a colder (and snowier) winter. The northern Mountains here are starting to get snow. Bring it on I say!

Cami- I am so sorry about Leslie being back in the hospital. It sounds like she is just having chronic infections and that is so hard to deal with, especially when she ends up at the hospital. It sounds like the implants are coming out and that may help. Sending you much love and know this year has been brutal for your family. Hugs sister. Thanks for all your kind words too.

Misty- I am glad to hear that you have one child still living with you. I am sure you will find your way through together but grief surely does scramble the mind to make it hard to do even the simple things. I hope that you can keep things simple for awhile and just take things one day at a time. Sending much love to you today.

And some day, when things are better, New Mexico would love to have you come visit us for balloon fiesta. We have a good 100K people come in here to visit it and it is hard to explain, but so cool and I never get tired of it. October is a lovely time of the year to visit in general and lots to do here in town, day trip to Santa Fe is always a must.

NM- there are tons of splash and dash this morning per the news. Lots of kayakers out there too. I think I need to add the kayaking during balloon fiesta to my bucket list for the future. I think you might enjoy that kind of adventure too. Did you get the kayak out this year in the end? If not, remember there is always next year. Hi to Sadie!

Chi- as a self employed person, I don't have dental insurance either. I find the dental insurance offered by most employers is limited anyways, one procedure can wipe out the basic coverage. I have a plan through the dentist I pay for which includes two cleanings and one set of x-rays per year for $180, and a 20% discount on any major work. I have had to have two crowns and a couple fillings in the past few years so it all helps. I think Bob makes a good point about dentures too. My parents had their teeth into their old age, although my mother lost a few along the way due to osteoporosis of the teeth (yes, that is a thing). She lost a couple molars but was in the assisted living by then and we just let things be. I have a tooth that had a rough root canal, multiple infections, retrograde filling and kept that thing going for a good 16 years now but know eventually, it will be going. Dental work is bothe expensive and painful, which is never a good combination in my opinion.

Janky- I know you are winging your way to the land down under and cannot wait to hear about your trip!

Goldie- is it getting cold where you are? I figure you will get the cold front before we do, maybe even today. Did you pick all your last tomatoes?

Anyone here impacted by Hurricane Michael?

Hope your weekend is good. Might be back tomorrow with more balloon pics.....

ChiSandy, my DH is now wearing those clear invisalign trays because his lower incisors began closing into his upper incisors and chipping and hurting. He's 60+ and likely the oldest patient at the ortho office! So far so good. Maybe that will be an option for you. He has failed orthodontia also back in about 1970.

Jazzy, Michael was a tropical storm here and kicked over quite a few of our trees. A few knocked down the neighbor's fence so DH and he have been working hard to clear that and repair the fence so he can turn his cows back into that part of the property. Our power was out several times but not terribly long. Lots of work and annoyance but minor compared to the devastation in worst hit areas.

Sorry I've been offline for awhile—flew to Albany yesterday and drove to our resort in the Berkshires just over the state line. (I could practically spit into NY but for that pesky mountain in the way). Getting the lay of the land (and night driving on unlit twisty country roads), stocking the fridge here, etc. Have yet to hit the pool—those sadists scheduled water aerobics at 9:45 am, and one of our primary objectives this week is to sleep in. No tours, courses, group breakfasts, etc. We're on our own for meals and keeping things simple—mostly leftovers. Drove down to Pittsfield to the Berkshire mall to see “A Star is Born." It was great, but all those vacant stores in the mall were exceedingly depressing. People buy stuff on Amazon, kids hang out on social media now, and who wants to eat at a mall?

Nothing memorable to drink, but nothing unpalatable either. I remembered to pack two each Govino wine glasses & flutes, plus a Screwpull pocket model & a champagne stopper—but the kitchen comes with wine glasses and a wing-corkscrew. En route back from dinner we stopped at a package store for a bottle eachof Louis Jadot Beaujolais-Villages and LaMarca Prosecco (no trad-method sparklers in stock). Bob got some Tito's vodka.

ChiSandy- I had some friends up in the Berkshires this weekend and saw some great fall photos. Which mall up there was empty? Our malls here are slowly emptying out. We have a mall here in ABQ that lost two anchor stores and about to loose the third (Sears) with them heading in to bankruptcy now.

I got my washer and drier from Sears the last time and need a new washer (only a matter of time now before that goes kaput like all my other set up appliances in the house). Of course, if they are gone and there is a problem, then the question will be service for the longer term.....

Meanwhile, in NM, it is snowing today peeps. We will take the moisture any way we can get it. Balloon fiesta is done as of yesterday!

Berkshire Mall in S. Pittsfield. So huge there’s a half-mile access road just to get to the entrance of the parking lots, and it’s a ghost town. Katy Tur was discussing the nationwide trend of dwindling malls just now on MSNBC.

Rainy today, so not much to photograph. Not venturing far afield either, as we slept in like slugs and took awhile to cook breakfast. My first attempt at using my Aeropress (first in awhile) was a disaster, as I ground the beans too fine (hand grinder was a chore) and blew the bottom off into the cup. Went back to the drawing board, second cup fine. Not used to electric ranges, so a lot of guesswork where to put the kettle and how high to set the burners. Anyway, had some packets of Starbucks Via instant (don’t judge) in reserve, and the stuff actually tastes like normal brewed coffee

Just came back from the neighboring resort’s general store. No shower gel or bubble bath, but several CBD products, cheaper than home—plus pocket tins labeled “Medical Marijuana” (guess the guest demographic is old enough to have ailments that qualify). The state of the recreational MJ law here is such that possession of a “personal use quantity” or one indoor plant is legal—so if anyone were to slip me a joint or edible, I’d be fine until it’s time to cross the state line into NY, so use it or lose it. Three MMJ dispensaries—one each in Williamstown, Northampton and Pittsfield—got their recreational sales licenses but haven’t set up their systems for sales yet. Oh, well. At least I don’t have to worry about runnning out of my CBD oil.

We bought some Kendall-Jackson Chardonnay, Hahn Cabernet Sauvignon and Gruet Brut (tip of the hat to you, Jazzy). Gonna check to see showtimes for “First Man;” will cook dinner (heat leftovers) in the unit tonight. Tomorrow is the dreaded obligatory timeshare presentation in Pittsfield

Mornin' Ladies, Chit I lost track of time, days and dates lately---Oh well.

Sandy u make everything with wine or alcohol sound so delicious and I always want some of whatever ur having and all the places u can go for "take out" dispensary, can it get any better than that..

Jazzy whenever balloon season starts all of a sudden it's over, but all the pictures are so appreciated, fun, bright and even fashionny. And they all seem so close, what a wonderful tradition that is. And we all get to enjoy it. U sound very busy with work, yahoo, it's time for u to be.

It's been a little slow with my work, but I would imagine in a month or so it will pick up again.

Oh Leslie is still screwing around with infection, fevers and pain. Marty's being operated on Friday <supposed to be same day> so we'll see. We really have some good neighbors who have offered to drive, pick-up or whatever is needed at the time---I just hope this goes well so he can get back to work---I know I sound terrible but I don't mean it , it's really tough right now that way...Oh well we'll get thru it. Chit I just fell asleep for 1/2 hr just sitting here.LOL

My mind is all flooped up right now so I'll be back later hoping I can communicate better or at least a little anyway.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Tuesday! Well, this Loungette and her pupper had quite the weekend.Cousin Laura got in Thursday, went home to Las Vegas yesterday, ran her first full marathon on Sunday. Lots of the cousins and Aunts and Uncles got together. Sadie got to meet and get to know her cousin dog Millie. Cousin Kim (me) managed to fall in Aunt Libby's HANDICAP ADAPTED shower and wrench my back (much better the next day, pain almost totally gone today). Some pics:

    image

Left to right: Me, Cousin Tammy, Cousin Dawna, Cousin Laura, Aunt Diane (Tammy's Mom), Aunt Arline (my mom)

Doggy cousins Sadie and Millie. The feet are mine.

At Uncle Roger and Aunt LIbby's house after the race. Left to right: Me (with blue paper plate), my Mom (can see the back of her blue jacket over my left shoulder, Cousin Tammy (white sweater), Cousin Holly (standing, dark shirt), Cousin Dawna (in front of Holly, can just see her glasses and hair over the top of the pizza box), Uncle Roger (striped shirt) and Aunt Diane (the hands in the lower right corner). There were 5 more people there.

Goldie--I can understand not wanting to do the research, wanting it all to go away. It's just your mind needing time to process and adjust to the idea. My mind would need lots and lots and lots of time to adjust. Have a safe trip! Hard to believe how much is still left to be done so long after that hurricane.

Janky--5 weeks in Australia!!! Wow!! Have a GREAT trip! And HOORAY for stable scans!See you in November.

Cammy--I had a great time this last weekend, and so did Sadie. How are Leslie and Joey doing? Lubs to you, too!

    Jazzy--what fun!

Misty--I'm glad you have some help with all that has to be taken care of now. Sounds like your youngest is coping pretty well.I'm glad you thought to tell him it's ok to be happy and to laugh still, I think we forget that too often and that causes more guilt than necessary.

Chi--oh my goodness what a saga with the dental work! I can't believe that one person could have to go through all of that. So much pain, so much expense. So not fair.

Cammy--NO!Not fair on Leslie! So not fair! I am still praying for her.

Goldie--how many maters have you canned all together this season?

Jazzy--you are going on a balloon ride next year?Good for you! I bet it'll be fantastic. I've got to harvest herbs before the next frost/first freeze happens.Have already had a couple of frosts. I did not get the kayak out this year. Need to make it a priority for next year. In the meantime I have got to start walking and moving more and getting into some sort of better condition than I am in now. Right now I can barely get up a flight of stairs without huffing and puffing. Would love to be on the water during a splash and dash!

Muddling--glad Michael wasn't too bad for you.

Chi--The Berkshires must be absolutely gorgeous right now with the fall colors. What a nice place for a getaway! I hope it's an indoor pool, though, or very well heated, at least. As to the Starbuck Via instant coffee, that's my instant coffee of choice, too! Tastes very good, and portable, if hard to find around here. I need to get it online.Boy, the CBD oil thing is really taking off all over the place now.

Cammy--Marty needs surgery, too?Good heavens, your family just cannot catch a break! Praying for him as well.

Definitely indoor pool. Saw “First Man” last night—riveting but not as emotional as I expected. Learned that the news didn’t report the full story of the various missions. Poured like crazy afterward—and we hadn’t realized that not only wouldn’t the entrance where we’d parked be open (directly across the food court from the theaters), but the indoor access to that exit would be barricaded. Had to walk >1/4 mi. in the downpour around the perimeter of the mall to get to our car. White-knuckle drive home too. There are definite advantages to life in a big city.

Having our timeshare presentation in an hour, then will probably go to Mt. Greylock for the views and leaf-peeping.

Oh! There's a thread for those of us who enjoy adult beverages??? YES PLEASE! I'm so glad I found this thread! :D

I'm new here, dx last week with IDC at the age of 40, and preparing for a double mastectomy and reconstruction. It's pretty heavy stuff, and when I can't meet with my therapist, I meet with my wine fridge. ;)

Cheers to you all, and I look forward to getting to know you (although it sucks to be under these circumstances). *clink*

*EDIT* Ah shoot, I just saw the post above mine. So sorry to hear that. :(

So sorry to hear about Mags—May her memory be for a blessing.

Had “dunch” at the Red Lion Inn (established 1726) in Stockbridge after visiting the Norman Rockwell Museum. Had a Beck’s NA (I had a long drive in the rain ahead of me). Used to be called Haake Beck. Smelled kinda skunky though nowhere near pull date. So I had a hot spiced cider (Bob had rum in his). Later tonight back in the room we cracked open a bottle of Gruet Brut with some local Brie.

Tomorrow it’s up to VT for some leaf-peeping. Hoping the color is better 80 miles north. A lot of people in the museum and the Inn were part of fall-color tours, and were grumbling that the Taconic and southern Berkshires were still 3/4 green.

ChiSandy, I like "dunch". I call it "lupper", lol. I hope to convince DH to prepare a lupper today. It forces him indoors before he's finished with the outside chores though. He's really racing against the early sunset these days but I feel better, and can have a drink (or two, sometimes) if we eat earlier. I'd do the prep but me using a sharp knife to make the salad and slice the grilled chicken would be a bad idea. (D*** hand neuropathy.) I hope the scenery is pretty for you.🍁

Cami, I am so sorry for the troubles that Leslie is having and now Marty needs surgery. Good grief, it never ends with your family.

NM, I figure I have done about 2000 maters. Thanks for sharing all the pics, have seen some on FB. And you fell? Glad you are doing better.

Jazzy, I did not know your friend, sorry to hear of her passing.

Sandy, hope you are able to enjoy some fall colors, not too much changing here in Michigan yet.

Evily, welcome! Pull up a barstool and have one of the Tenders bring you a libation of your choice. Sorry you have to be here at all, but we all feel that way. Not a club any of us wants to belong to.

Enjoying my time with family, have some girlfriends coming tomorrow night, along with my daughter. She also came to the nursing home to visit my mom when I was there, yesterday and today. Wedding for my neice is Saturday. I just love visiting with my family.

    Hello my bresties!!!

OMG….I have been soooo damn busy with doc appts and tests, and surgery…my DH and I are both exhausted. Got my drains out…sorry if I already mentioned that. It was so GREAT to sleep on my side. Got 400cc on 1st fill, 150 more last week. Will need some reconstruction to get the implants positioned properly and get rid of the armpit boobs.

    But otherwise I am OK.

Lowee - so happy to hear u had a wonderful time with ur DD and family. And that u are tolerating ur meds. Praying for you as always.

Dara - CONGRATES on ur new job, and yes, if u can safely put off the 'repair' surg until u've had some time on new job. Not sure I like u seeing Dr PK again. But Good luck to you!!

Misty - still praying for u and urs. Sounds like u r handling things pretty well. Rest and grieve whenever u can.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Sorry to be absent, been having trouble getting my butt out of bed in the ayems, been hitting the snooze button and then getting up just in time to get dressed and head out to work. Got into the bad habit of sleeping in while with the cousins last weekend. Got to re-train myself to get out of bed early now. Sadie would much rather sleep in and hasn't been helping the alarm, probably because when the alarm goes off and I hit the snooze we cuddle and she gets belly rubs while I doze! I'll start ketchuping this ayem, will finish ketchuping tomorrow.

Chi--I was wondering about seeing First Man. Looked interesting. So crazy about having to walk so far in the rain after to get to the car!

    Jazzy--sorry to hear about Mags.

    Evily--Welcome to the Lounge!

Muddling--I've heard of "lupper"! Sharp knife plus neuropathysounds like a recipe for trouble.

Goldie--2000 maters is a lot of maters! How many pints/quarts did that make up? And yup, I managed to fall in a handicapped adapted shower.Go figure.

OK, gotta get dressed for work.Back tomorrow.

Waitning for our flight home in the Hudson Valley Wine Bar at Albany airport. When in Rome, so I skipped the more sophisticated selections for something local and near and dear to Bob & me, a winery we visited during our courtship (you could drink at 18 in NY back then), as well as my childhood: Brotherhood Winery in Washingtonville, where I used to spend my summers as a kid. Back then, they only made sweet fruit wines as well as native “labrusca” grape & hybrid wines. Well, on the menu today were a Bordeaux-style Cabernet Sauvignon and a Kabinett-style Riesling. Normally, I don’t drink Rieslings that sweet except with spicy food, but we’re sharing a Mediterranean “mezze” plate. The wine is very off-dry but finishes a bit drier. The winery has come a long, long way!Looking as the glass I can’t believe it’s a 6-oz. pour but I can give the rest to Bob—it’s his birthday.

Hello to all. I keep up with reading, but have not posted in quite awhile. Returned last Sunday from a 10 day trip to San Francisco, Guerneville (Russian River), Monterey, Carmel, Big Sur, Pebble Beach. Wonderful CA coastal views, food & drink plus good times with family and friends. Best wine: at Nepenthe, restaurant perched in the heights of Big Sur w/an outstanding view - a Sauvignon Blanc, 2017 Domaine Vacheron from Sancerre. Best Gal Pal Gale & I drank the whole bottle.

Back to more limited wine imbibing, now.

Celia, that's probably my favorite U.S. vacation. When we were impoverished grad students in Seattle, sleeping in campgrounds (or as an occasional treat, cheap motels) on drives down the coast to the Napa Valley & the Bay Area, we would dream about someday (maybe) staying at what was then the Del Monte Lodge, later the Lodge at Pebble Beach. We took day trips to the Monterey Peninsula and then camped in Big Sur. Years later, when Bob had a cardiology course in SF and Gordy was a toddler, we stayed first at the Lodge before heading north. The following year, we reversed the order and unwound at the (then) new Inn at Spanish Bay.

The Sancerre sounds wonderful: Bob is a big Mary Chapin Carpenter fan, particularly of the song "Mrs. Hemingway," which contains the line "There's Sancerre and oysters, cathedrals & cloisters." Whenever we order oysters, we check the wine list for Sancerre. (Even though Muscadet or zero-dosage Champagne or Methose Trad. bubblies pair better--I like Sancerre on its own, with chêvre or other soft cheeses, or with smoked fish).

Closest we've gotten in the past 20 yrs was a short cardiology course in SF in 2001, which I had to leave early when my aunt in Queens passed away.
