Mistyeyes, I’m so sorry, I can’t imagine what you’re going through. I’d be drinking too, and smoking, and eating ice cream...

Misty, of course you can post that here. I am so sorry to hear this and can't imagine what you must be feeling, I would imagine numb. And we are symapathetic. Prayers going out to you and your family. Do come back and talk, it might help you to get through this. Glad to know you have lots of family near by. May I ask how old he was.

I'm hanging in there, suppose to see onc tomorrow and pick up my daughter. Of course I will go, just hoping I can make it back in to our house and to the docs. We have Hurricane Rosa hitting us and flash flood warnings in Phoenix. The road that I take to my doctors office is known for those floods. That's all for now.

MistyEyes, so sorry to hear of your DH's sudden passing. May his memory be for a blessing. I echo others' advice to treat yourself gently and indulge as needed. In my faith's tradition, when a close loved one dies, a weeklong mourning period is mandated (at least 3 days for Reform)--during which time work is discouraged, visitors are to bring food and others are to do stuff like cooking and cleaning for the bereaved. And for 30 days afterward, it is inadvisable to make any important or momentous decisions such as major purchases & sales, investments, moves, job changes, college admission decisions, or even writing a new will.

I'd always heard that you shouldn't make any major decisions - like moving - for a year

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Twofer Tuesday! Had my yearly physical yesterday, no big issues, did get caught as being due for colonoscopy and upper endoscopy and that referral got sent out. Not looking forward to that. Got my flu shot and my leg is sore but at least I can go in and out of nursing homes and not have to wear a mask. Which is hilarious, cuz when there is confirmed flu in the nursing homes I have to wear a mask due to having asthma! Oh, well, such is life. The belly button that got reconstructed when the boobs got reconned is infected, again. I didn't even realize it since I don't have any feeling there. But if this is the only problem I have with recon I am very lucky indeed, especially compared to what others have gone through.

    Hugs for Misty.

Goldie--I hope you got where you were going and back without getting flooded.

Chi--your faith has a very helpful approach to mourning and helping the grieving. Support is so necessary at that time.

Minus--in Hospice Bereavement care the recommendation is to not make major changes like selling the family home or getting rid of all the deceased's belongings for at least 3 months, and not for a year if possible. Sometimes a survivor wants to get rid of everything that reminds them of the lost loved one, only to regret the decision a few months later. Sometimes, though, the decision to move is driven by financial realities and has to happen sooner. A lot of things happen that first year of bereavement, both emotionally and with insurances, social security, and taxes.

    Hashy Smokes' DOTD:

    Blue Flu

    Ingredients

Pour the Crown Royal Canadian Whisky, peach schnapps, blue curacao and cranberry juice all into a cocktail shaker half-filled with ice cubes. Shake well, strain into shot glasses or a single large shot glass, and serve.

Best served in a Shot Glass.

What I'm drinking right now (milk texture & technique still a bit tricky, but glad I can work the real espresso machine & grinder again, not have to rely on Nespresso capsules and Aeroccino frother):

Mema- so good to hear from you and let us know when those drains are out. You are progressing through the hard stuff.

Teka- that is some seriously good looking food. Now I am hangry.....

Mistyeyes- I remember only too well having to go back to work after a close family loss, although nothing like a sudden passing of your DH. I know this must be a very difficult week for you. Sending much love and hope you are able to just go home and rest at night.

Cami- how is that cold coming along? Thinking of you friend.

ChiSandy- I had a delicious DOTD yesterday that was a coffee drink at my favorite shop in town. Called a NM Fireball and included double shot of expresso, shaved dark chocolate, cinnamon, a touch of red chili power and some milk. I had it iced and it was DELISH!

NM- we are getting some much needed rain here with left overs from Hurricane Rosa!

Okay back to work ladies. Catch up with ya this weekend!

Hot as blazes today--90 degrees in Skokie, where I had my hand therapy (final session!) and ortho appts. Extremely muggy & windy, too. Right now it's still 80. Storm should be coming through beginning in about an hour. High of 52 tomorrow...in the morning. Ugh.

Grilled a steak tonight (because I still could); with it I had a couple oz. of Maryhill 2012 Cabernet Franc. Right now drinking a can of cherry-flavored "Bubly" unsweetened seltzer. (Bob loves it, so even though we have a Sodastream I bought some). Pretty good--I'd always preferred LaCroix, but the latter makes a cherry-lime, not cherry.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Thirsty Thursday! The leaves have really changed color here over the last few days. And starting falling. I have really got to get some stuff done around the house to prep for winter weather. Yuck. Sadie doesn't care what the weather is as long as it isn't raining, she's got a personal dryer-offer and cuddle and warm up with hooman to make things better for her!

Mema--hope those drains came out, those can be annoying. Necessary, but annoying.

Jazzy--that coffee drink sounded great until you got to the red chili powder! I hope Hurricane Rosa's leftovers are not too damaging, just watering.

Chi--Isn't it amazing how many flavors of soda and carbonated water are out there?

    Hashy Smoke's DOTD:

    Warped Thursday

    Ingredients

Empty half a can of cherry coke, pour the vodka into the can, then pour in the kool-aid. Alternatively, use a 12oz glass. Stir. A kabob stick works well in the can.

Best served in a Old-Fashioned Glass.

    Hello my girls,

Well I have great news, I got the job at TD Bank AND the salary is more than I asked. I am beyond thrilled. Thanks all for the prayers and good wishes.

Sue, I hope those drains have been removed, I remember what a nuisance they were.

NM, can't believe the leaves are changing there already, ugh, hate what is to come although I do enjoy fall. I just hate winter so much anymore. I plan on retiring to the south when the time comes.

Well I finally made it to my PS today and as feared and anticipated, I will need surgery to remove the mesh that has poked through my stomach. I have to schedule a CT and get blood work first. I just can't believe I have to have surgery again for this nonsense. I have already had over twenty surgical procedures. Oh well, life is good. My prayers have been answered. It has been a long seven months since I had a decent job and will be nice to back to the crazy world of mortgages!

Nothing much going on here. I am having a jack n diet pepsi tonight, well I do that every night but having a little extra tonight to sailabrate the job!!

chEErS my loves, wishing you all well! As MemaSue would say, lubs lubs lubs!

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy TGIF day! Seems like it's been a long week this week, not sure why. Chilly in the ayems, warmed up pretty nicely yesterday, supposed to even be sunny today, yeah! Also supposed to be a nice weekend. Sadie and I would both like that. But, freeze and frost warnings for overnight tonight. Sigh.

Dara--CONGRATULATIONS!!WHOO-HOO!Good for you! Having a new job is exciting! Not so exciting about the mesh, though. Hopefully that won't be a big surgery?

    Hashy Smoke's DOTD:

    Fridays Frozen Mudslide

    Ingredients

Begin by crushing the 8 ice cubes in a blender. When ice is finely crushed, add the remaining ingredients and blend for 45 seconds on blender's highest setting. Pour into glass and serve immediately.

Best served in a Hurricane Glass.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Saturday! The sun that was promised yesterday is finally making an appearance today. With the leaves changing color and the intense blue the skin gets only in the fall it is absolutely beautiful outside, if chilly. Some frost , not enough to kill off anything yet, but enough to see. Summer is truly gone. And yet I found 2 ticks on Silly Sadie during out evening cuddle session! I'll be glad for a good freeze to come and wipe those little annoyances out.

    Morning, Jazzy!

Chi--sop good they will be having an indoor stage!

    Hashy Smoke's DOTD:

    Stage Kiss

    Ingredients:

1 ½ oz. blanco tequila (recipe suggests Don Julio) 1 oz. blood orange juice

1 Tbsp. fig-agave jam with cayenne

    Dry soda

    Fig slice

    Preparation:

    • Combine tequila, blood orange juice and fig-agave jam with cayenne into a mixing glass with ice. Shake well.

    • Pour contents into an old-fashioned glass.

    • Top with dry soda and stir gently.

    • Garnish with sliced fig.
