    Mornin' Ladies.

Well everyone is getting ready for TG one way or another---Oh I like all these cold remedies even tho I on't want to get one they're good enough to take to keep them away. Or just for fun. But I do hope everyone is feeling good by the time this day comes opening up everyone's eyes.

Jeez I still can't believe it is TG or near it even way to fast and yet I can't remember what I did last year, I don't get it---it goes by fast yet last year seem so far away too. Holy chit this is confusing.

As usual u gals sound busy but then it always seems like a lot of fun. Our plans are zero this yr. Anyway they told Leslie yesterday do nothing for so many hrs. and this is included in so many hrs. So whatever. But we are going to be with one side of the family Saturday for Thanksgiving so that'll be fine---Of course I'm bringing dessert key lime pie for my choice then pumpkin too. Of course I'm making both of them, yea right I don't even know if we have pie pans, never asked. Oh Joey and I are going to Jodie's tomorrow til Sat Morning that's always fun with Jod, especially for Joey. Cheyanne's boyfriend is gone for the week and her GF is working so she looks forward to seeing Joey, but she does anyway, cuz she brings him along where ever she goes, they are good together like they were when they were little. When they were little since we lived in the same condos they were always together and now I'm so glad cuz they really are friends, that's always good.

I hope everyone has a super special day today whatever u do and who ur with---I'm so thankfull for all of u being there for me at my saddest an the special feelings that I feel an the wonderful luck I've had to meet some of you in person, Thank you.

    Feel better, Jazzy.

Kim, I didn't take the wrong pills Tues. night--I didn't take any pills! When I noticed my mistake yesterday morning, I added the letrozole, statin, montelukast, magnesium and biotin to my morning dose, and substituted a Pepcid Complete for the Dexilant. (The magnesium might have, uh, boosted the spinach's activity). Back to the normal regimen last night, but was sleepy enough not to need the CBD oil. Slept 10 hrs--would have woken later but for the kitties, in my face, demanding their food. Made real oatmeal with maple syrup & blueberries for breakfast so we won't overeat at dinner--we want to bring home leftovers. Have an assortment of cookies, apples and a few tangerines for when we come back here. Bob brought up a couple of champagnes from the cellar, and I have an assortment of K-cups, Nespresso pods (reg. & decaf), Scotch, rum (can go outside & pick enough mint for mojitos--not everything froze), rye, Bourbon aperitifs & cordials for imbibing. Plenty of seltzers, light lemonade, and diet pop too.

Gordy's GF's sis' flt. from Houston is late--so she may not make dinner but instead come here after.

Enjoying a 2nd glass of Sangria at the cabin today, Thanksgiving postponed until we get home. Here’s an old restaurant placement I found in a thrift store recipe book, pretty cool. Hope everyone is well 😀

Happy Thanksgiving! I had pizza and sushi - international meal :) I met with my MO today and he is happy with my progress (lack of progression), so I will see him again in January after my scans. I have a sore right ear, about 6 weeks now, though not intense ,which I notice more when I yawn or chew, and I forgot to ask him about it - any thoughts? I also had a clear mammogram, then a bone density test which I will receive the results of early next week, though not worried about those results so much.

illimae - I love that placemat - my kind of treasure for sure!!

Jazzy - eggs look yummy, glad you can work from home if not feeling your best :)

Goldie - I agree with NM about the romaine.

ChiSandy - glad you have no after effects from the lack of pills, apart from fatigue (which you probably have lots of the time?!)

janky, could be referred pain from a TMJ irritation--ask your dentist. The yawning/chewing making it worse, and the long duration (too long for a swollen gland from a cold or other infection) is a clue. Do you grind your teeth when you sleep?

I don't often get really fatigued, merely pleasantly tired after a long day or hard workout. And i very, very rarely get complete insomnia like I did Tues. night--more often when I can't sleep I usually do drift off for a few minutes several times a night.

Tonight at the Fireside I had a little hot spiced cider with Jack Daniel's (drank about half of it). With my turkey dinner, half a glass of Pinot Noir. And at home after with friends (our BFFs and then Gordy, Leslie, her sister and her BF), I made Aperol spritzers.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Day after Thanksgiving! I hope everyone had a happy and enjoyable day, no matter who they were with or how (or if) they celebrated the day. Sadie and I had a very nice time with Mom and Dick. We're both happy to have a day with no plans other than to lounge around and be lazy. We should take a walk later, but the temps are still single digit, but the without the wind, so will have to see. I have the clothes and such to be able to go out in this kind of weather and be warm enough, so I can't let that be an excuse. Sadie has her own person fur coat, so I can't use her an excuse, either!

Cammy--the nice thing about the cold remedy recipes is that they work very well as cold prevention medicines, as well!So mix up your fav and enjoy! So glad to hear that you and Joey are going to Jodie's, and am praying hard that Leslie feels better soon. This is such a hard holiday season for your family!

Chi--aha, now I understand what happened! What a great selection of beverages and munchies you are putting out! Funny to think the mint isn't frozen where you are. My mint is under 3 inches of snow!

Illi--That is a neat collection of recipes!I can see why someone would put it in a cook book and keep it!

Janky--Glad to hear the MO is happy. That is always good news.

NM, for years either my grandmother or mother hosted TG, and usually one of them would call and ask me to stop and get butter on the way to their place. They didn't forget it but just used it all in the cooking and didn't have enough for the table. After a while I always just took a pound every time. They've been gone for years but I thought of it yesterday when DH and I didn't have salted butter for the table! We had unsalted though so we made do.

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Saturday! Much warmer here today, 23 degrees on the back deck. Sunny, now that the sun has crept up over the horizon. I'll be glad when the days start getting longer again. I feel like I'm living in the dark sometimes! Sadie says Hi! to everyone.

Muddling--isn't it funny how we turn into out parents as we age!

Jazzy, I hope your cold has been kicked to the curb. And how nice to have a friend in town.

Cami, I hope you all had a nice TG yesterday with family. And Leslie needs to NOT DO ANYTHING, she needs to get better! I also hope you and Joey made it Jodi's and had a good time. I am one of the lucky ones to have met you and your in person. I have acutually met quite a few, a good dozen or more.

Ill, what a fun find in the thrift store cook book. Too bad you didn't find something worth thousands!

Janky I like the progress = no progression. Kind of an oxymoron, eh? As for the ears, maybe from flying?

NM, I really hate the cold, and would have to be very motivated to go out for a walk in that frigid weather, especially single digits! Your mom buys cranberry sauce on sale, after TG, to have the following year? That Red Rudolf looks yummmmm!

Muddling, I have used unsalted butter in recipes that call for it, have no idea why! But never on the table, couldn't you just add a little salt to it?

I haven't made the layered bean dip yet, but to be safe I will omit the lettuce. So far I have done absolutely EVERYTHING by myself, food prep, dishes, cooking ect. A roast with all the fixings, ribs and potato salad, cooking on the grill, running in and out, today I was planning on the spaghetti and bean dip, but might just make the dip and they can have left overs or bologna sandwiches! I don't think I even got a thank you yet for any of the meals. I won't be doing this again!

Goldie, I will add some salt next time, but we were serving our plates so I just went with unsalted. DH was going out yesterday anyway so he got a pound so we're good! Too bad he didn't bring home any fresh bread or rolls! I'm sorry you've gotten stuck with all the work. You are a nice person because I'd be saying "Ok, you and you are doing the dishes right after supper and you and you are going to cook breakfast so set your alarm for 7 ..." . I hope you'll soon get to rest.

    Mornin' ladies,

    Wow u gals ha weekends.

Lori how do u do it all, just thinking about it I get tire an that's a lot, ALOT of work. Clean up alone is recockulous---u' d better rest up for couple of days. What a hostess u are, I'm sure tho everyone who ever comes to ur home feels so comfortable which is a huge compliment to u.

Ah Kim nice do nothing day with Sadie, always a good idea. especially after TG. Ur weather gave u a little rest from snow, now we're supposed to get it. TY for sending it to us.

Muddling I never had unsalted butter <except in recipes> but I'm sure everything was good anyway, but it does bring back memories salted ones.

Janky it's always good to hear "well everything looks about the same" from ur Dr. Well as long as the same was OK.

Jeez all these rinks sound super I really want some, but I honestly don't know if I could drink anything---any clues ladies.

Jazzy I hope all that cold stuff is gone and ur feeling normal again. Crummy time to be sick. But u must be busy with work too.

Joey went to Jodie's but I din't, he had a great time since my granddgtr can drive now they did stuff on their own---he was loving that and just in general. I did go to Dan's house and saw that side of the family yesterday. In typical Italian style more food that anyone coul possibly even look at---2 turkeys, pork roast and ham and everything that goes with those meats---20 lbs. of stuffing alone. I would have come home so sick if I hadn't lost my taste for food but ha a good time got home about 10PM so I know I'll be napping on and off today.

Now Sandy u make everything sound sooo good to eat and drink and u were another busy one. Was this the first time u met Leslie's sister??? This is sounding even more interesting with Gordy, I like this. Are u ready for the snow we're supposed to be getting, hearing all kinds of reports, of course all with some or a lot of snow.

DARA, DARA, DARA---just thought I'd try.

BTW Jazzy I love ur hair cut, it's so lovely on u. Of course u do have great hair, but it does look pretty.

Muddling, that is funny. I would say something like that to my own kids, but these are not mine!

Cami, so glad that Joey had a good time with his cousin, he sure needed that! As for Wacko, I looked at her profile and usually she will at least log in and read, but she hasn't even logged in in about a month.

So this my husbands daughter and her husband. She is very large and has horrible lymphedema in her legs, her husband waits on her hand and foot, even has to help her dress. But it doesn't stop her from playing for hours on our pin ball machine! Yesterday was the same thing again, I had made a breakfast casserole, a 7 layer bean dip and then spaghetti for dinner. I had a sink with hot sudsy water in it, her husband goes over and just rinses their dishes and sets them on them on the other side of the sink. I'm like, there's hot soapy dish water there, why didn't you just wash the dang dish! What is it with these millennial's? They are 39.

    Rant over....sorry! LOL

Here is a pic of the kids.

    Giving NM a break, DOTD.....

    Ingredients

    • 1 2 inch piece of ginger, peeled and sliced into 1/4 inch pieces
    • 1/2 cup water
    • 1/3 cup sugar
    • 2 limes
    • 2 tablespoons orange liquer
    • 2 bottles of light beer (I use Pacifico)

    Directions

    1. Combine the ginger, water and sugar in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil, stir until all the sugar dissolves, and simmer over low heat for 5 minutes. Pour the mixture into a glass, ginger and all, and place in the refrigerator until cool.
    2. When the ginger syrup is cool, strain it and divide it between two large glasses. Into each glass, add the juice of 1 lime and 1 tablespoon of orange liquer. Fill each glass with a bottle of beer and stir. On a really hot day, add ice before taking it outside to the pool and enjoying.

Happy Sunday everyone! Sunny but cold here in Alberta, wayyyy below 0!

Chi - I'm going to see my dentist - I am not a teeth grinder.

NM - Always happy when the doctor is happy, how's Sadie doing? Enjoying the snow?

Goldie - kids are kids, lol, why wash in the hot, soapy water??? :) I see the 'canadianism' has rubbed off - eh?

Cami - So far my bones mets are (is) stable, scans show 'healing' and no further progression.

I hope and pray everyday that a cure is found for all metastatic disease and all the other 'incurables' out there. Of course people will not all be healed but I do think the thought of a cure brings hope...I am off to a Grey Cup Party, which is the Canadian version of Super Bowl, on a smaller scale. Health and healing. Cheers!

Janky, what did I say that was a canadianism? I know "eh". I'm from Michigan.

Glad you got to the spa Jazzy. Massage pushed out more of the cold?

Well the kids are gone. I got no "thanks for everything" "food was great", "appreciated it"......NOTHING! I did the same thing this morning with hot soapy dish water, breakfast plates were just brought over and set on the counter. Hot coffee cup placed on my new wood tables, had told asked them before to not place it on the wood, there's granite squares inlaid in the table, so put it there or on a coaster. I just moved it myself. But, they are gone, so you won't need to hear me complain anymore.

Goldie - it was the 'eh' - ;) kids can be so unthinking, even as adults...we all need to vent some days, and if it's not the kids it is dh, unasked for comments from well meaning friends, or cancer itself, so vent away!!

Yoopers (from da u.p. of Michigan) also say "eh" (not as an alternative to "meh") but sometimes say "yah." For awhile, my previous trio played up in Marquette, Escanaba or Munising nearly every month. One of the trio eventually moved to the U.P. because she'd felt for decades that it was her spiritual home.

This was my first time meeting Leslie's sister (and her boyfriend, who's from Anchorage--AK meets TX, which can be interesting). They're delightful people. We had a great T-day.

Lori, 39 isn't millennial--it's GenX (the generation that created "slackers").

Cami, we're hunkering down--the wind has picked up but it's still just raining (and not freezing yet). Nevertheless, we have our snow guy on speed-dial (text, actually) and three gallon jugs of ice-melt by the front & back doors. I told Bob that even though I love him, not to come home tonight but instead take a room at the Oak Lawn Hilton or sleep in the doctors' lounge or on-call rooms at Advocate Christ. I told him I miss him but I'd rather he be safe and alive. We each keep a packed overnight bag in our cars.

Last night with leftover turkey (duh) we tried another Beaujolais Nouveau: Momessin. Much "meatier" and more complex than the Fessy, Duboeuf or Jadot. No alc. tonight--might take one little chocolate-covered espresso bean with THC (keeping the bottle of CBD at the ready if it's a bad trip). Last night I had just my regular night pills, and was awakened with weird neuropathies for which I had to take a Lyrica. Fortunately, I wasn't hung over when the alarm rang (though I was pissed off that I'd never find out what happened in a fascinating dream I'd been having). Had I tried an edible I might still have been stoned this morning, which is not a good thing to be if you need to be at an all-day rehearsal by 10am. (The 1:1 gummy, of which I ate half Fri. night, gave me a smooth and even sleep--but the only "alarm clock" I had yesterday were two kitties climbing on my chest, purring and pawing at my face, awaiting their wet food (they haven't adjusted to Standard Time).

Thus far today, my potables have been an espresso, an almond-milk cappuccino, coffee, ginger-peach green tea and water.

I stand corrected, Gen X indeed! Was off a couple of years. Regardless, I find it quite rude to not thank someone for cooking and cleaning up after someone for 4 days.

Janky, before the days when you had to have a passport to go into Canada, we went often. Ok, I see where I said it now....lol.

Heading down to Phoenix for the night, meeting with our Health insurance agent to see what we need to do for the upcoming new year, especially for me.

For those of you getting hit with all that snow, stay safe.

Goldie, wow, I’d be pissed to. I’m 43 and I certainly have better manners than that, it’s an awareness thing, not age for me.

Had some sweet red and sangria wines last week at the cabin but none right now. Off to treatment (Herceptin/Perjeta), so I skip the booze for a few days before and after.

Cami, sorry about DD’s stuff, wish she’d catch a break.

jaybird, yeah why does alcohol get a bad rap? I have been having cocktails everyday in the evening since maybe I was in my 40s. I don't believe that alcohol caused my bc either, my mom had it and hers came back. However, every time I take a drink I freak out like the bc might come back. I do take Tamoxifen, so have been told not to drink. I do like my gin and vodka.

Alcohol use has been (dose-dependently) statistically correlated with a higher incidence of ER+ breast cancer. Note though, that correlation isn't causation. (One wag joked that statistics cause cancer). It's thought that if there is any causational relationship, it's due to two properties of alcohol.

First, it is a "super-carb" that is metabolized so quickly that the body prefers burning it rather than stored fat for fuel--so it contributes to obesity if a person doesn't reduce other caloric intake. (It has 7 cal./gram, compared to 4 ea. for carb & protein and 9 for fat). As a result, fat isn't burned as much as it should be, and the process of making estrogen postmenopausally takes place in fat cells and adrenal glands. Now, it is impossible to lose fat cells non-invasively, just empty them. BUT women can make new fat cells when the existing ones have been refilled (and perhaps even before).

Second, that postmenopausal estrogen-making process begins when the fat cells and adrenal glands pump out an androgen called androstenedione. The liver makes an enzyme called aromatase that is the catalyst for the conversion of that androgen into estrone, a form of estrogen. The liver is also part of the digestive "chain" that metabolizes various blood chemicals and sends them where they belong. In the case of glucose, for example, the liver converts it either to glycogen for muscles to store as fuel or fat to be stored in fat cells; in the case of excess estrogen, it is eventually sent to the kidneys to add to urine and be excreted. It is believed that since alcohol can impair liver function, it impairs that estrogen-clearing process. (However, it stands to reason that alcohol might also impair the liver's ability to secrete aromatase, so it could be a double-edged sword).

It has yet to be disputed, though, that obesity is a risk factor for ER+ breast cancer--and alcohol imbibed to excess without cutting enough other calories can contribute to obesity, especially the "central" obesity (the dreaded "beer belly") that also raises risk for Type 2 diabetes and heart disease. In men, "excess" has been defined as (for a 150-pounder) >2 drinks a day; in women--even of the same weight or heavier-->1 drink a day (because our livers don't work as quickly as men's do). But when it comes to ER+ breast cancer, the "safe" amount of drinks per week is anywhere from 3 down to zero. (A "drink" is an ounce of booze, 5 oz. of wine, or 12 oz. of beer or hard cider). Some oncologists say there is no safe amount of alcohol for an ER+ cancer patient, female or male. (Party poopers).

Here on the city's n. lakefront we got about 2-3" of wet sloppy "heart attack" snow. The west side got about 5", the SW suburbs 7" and the NW suburbs over a foot. But the biggest problem here was wind, which caused high waves that washed over onto the northbound right lanes of LakeShore Drive (raising the risk of icing), snapped trees that took down power lines and (combined with rain) blew transformers. The latter happened to us for a few minutes in the middle of the night, which was darn scary: pitch black. I had to grope my way from the bathroom to the bedroom, hugging the walls & furniture, lest I fall downstairs. Managed to use my cell as a flashlight, and then text ComEd's outage reporting hotline--just in time for the power to come back on. Fortunately, the thermostat had battery backup and the boiler's pilot light stayed on. But had to reset a few clocks on appliances.

Tried a THC chocolate-covered espresso bean last night (5mg. THC). Didn't notice much of an effect, as since I was leery of pure THC I also took 1/4 dropper of CBD oil with it. But I did fall asleep easily w/o needing Xanax. Unfortunately, a 9 am phone call from a NY cousin who forgot about the time difference "harshed my mellow," as stoners say--and after that I had to get up & feed the kitties. (Housekeeper is snowbound over on the W. Side). Snow guy is on his way. Have a voice lesson, then Uber/Lyft downtown for rehearsal ("dry dress" optional) and then the move to the theater. I'm nervous about icy sidewalks, which is why I'm not walking to the CTA train and taking it downtown.

My surgeon's NP said "moderation in all things." Primary care doc said before I was diagnosed to make sure to have a small glass of red wine daily, but now to limit it to 15oz./wk. Oncologist said 2 glasses/week. Shrink contends that eventually research will show there is no safe amount of alcohol for ER+ bc patients.

I believe in moderation of moderation.

Thanks for the welcome. I’m 45, diagnosed in October and having BMX with hopeful immediate recon on Friday but know that might not actually happen. Of course I don’t know about future treatments yet.

I have 3 daughters ages 12 to 17, 3 cats and a husband who has also been drinking a lot more this past month! I work part time and have no sick leave which complicates the whole time off work thing :(

I’m usually a wine kinda girl but I’m telling you the wine just couldn’t cut it during some of the past few weeks! Thanksgiving, family pictures to make sure I have a photo with each daughter...yeah, vodka was the rx for those days!

Currently avoiding any libations this week in prep for surgery but in a few weeks I hope to raise a nice glass of Cabernet with you all! :)

Thanks again for letting me crash!
