how about drinking?

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Thirsty Thursday! Going to be an interesting day today with and interview this afternoon and meeting with a friend for coffee after. I'm going to have fun picking out an outfit from my closet full of "real" clothes (not scrubs) to wear. Definitely not going to be a dress or skirt, the temp is all the way up to 5 degrees, what little breeze there is feels bitingly cold. It was so nice to have Sadie to cuddle up to last night.I think she liked it, too!
Goldie--so sorry you're sick, it sure does sound like food poisoning. Glad you feel better, praying you are all better very soon. Ah, got the appointments mixed up, not unusual for me. Still glad you got through themud ok. And good luck with the appointment next week. Am I reading that right, 5 FEET of snow? Youza! That's got to qualify as a blizzard! Holy The Cow, indeed!
Chi--Good point.
Cammy--you poor thing, having a panic attack at the doctor's office! Low Vitamin D can be a problem for lots of people, especially people who don't get outside in the sun without sunscreen very much. Hmm, maybe it's time for me to start taking it again. I sure as shooting am not doing any sunbathing this time of year! This position does have potential, but I want to find out some things before making any decisions. But that's what interviews are for, right? Never heard of Oberweis Chocolate Milk, is this a gourmet brand of chocolate milk? Should we consider adding a Chocolate Milk Bar to the HTL?That would be fun!
Adult Chocolate Milk
Ingredients

- 2 ozs kahlua
- 4 ozs chocolate milk

Got my results of the blood tests, everything is good except my Vitamin D3 is at 19! It hasn't been that low since 2010, course lately I have been lazy and not been taking it. Doc suggests 5000 IU in the cold months and 2000 IU in the summer months. Suppose to help with breast cancer some how, I have read articles that it does and read some that there is no proven results. I'm still going on it because it helps our bones. Then I read another article saying that you need to take magnesium along with the vitamin D3, got that going for me, I take it every night. Now the reason you are suppose to hold back on drinking is the liver, tamoxifen's side effect can give you fatty liver and so can alcohol, so if your liver count is good then a cocktail here and there is okay. I ordered a B complex from Amazon, suppose to be the best
https://www.amazon.com/NATURELO-Complex-Vegetarian...
I just ordered the regular one not the one for women.
I wish we all were a bit in the area, would be fun to get together and share stories, thoughts and of course some cocktails.

Trying to post a picture and it isn't showing up!
It was a phrase saying 'sometimes I drink water just to surprise my liver!'

Goldie- I know several people who have had the flu and a really tender stomach. Heard it from more than a few. I hope you are feeling better soon. Hugs sister.

Goldie you poor sweet girl...I hope this crud leaves you very soon!
LomLin-I wish we could all get together too! Imagine all the beautiful cocktails we could order!
NativeMaine-good luck with the dressing up in 5 degrees!
JCSlibrarian-go Gamecocks! My daughter will be entering as a freshman at Carolina this fall!
Camilegal I slept from 8-10 pm and felt like I’d woken up in another world. Had a killer migraine that’s sticking with me today a little bit.
I’m taking my oldest to a 2 day cheerleading competition this weekend...super happy because I didn’t know if I’d be able to make this trip! I do have a tiny spot on one of my incisions that started to open up and bleed/drain today, but not a lot and I’m going to wish it away I think. I have a message in to PS just in case.
Goodnight beautiful, wise women!

Well, saw the doc, he only asked me questions, listened to my lungs and tummy and pressed on it. No labs, no trip to the ER and a script for Dicyclomine, 3 pills a day for 4 days. Just said it was a stomach virus. Took one pill right away while in town, and by the time I got home, I was already feeling a lot better. It's a little "blue" pill, so DH and I were laffing about that! DH has a RA appt. today in Flaggstaff, 2.5 hour drive and wants me to go with him. I was dreading the drive down our dirt road, almost a half hour of lots of big bumps! Our road back here is horrible!!! And it's only 6 miles. But we are taking my FJ, which rides smoother on the road than his truck.
NM, yes I said 5' of snow, but I think that is like in the higher elevations in the mountains. Regardless, Mother Nature is hitting a lot of the country. Can't wait to hear how your interview went.
JC, we make smoothies too, recently I have been using beets in mine, some celery, carrots, and fruit with a little bit of fruit juice, usually a cran/rasberry. Also will throw in some flax. My DH likes to put peanuts in his too. I keep all my fruit frozen so I get like a slushy. The beets really give it a pretty color. I've also used kale in mine too. Add enough fruit and you can't even taste the veggies. So glad you had a nice time with your friend, those moments become more special than what you would think.
Lom, another one with good results. And another good reason for a cocktail to sailabrate. LOL at the water surprising the liver! Where were you trying to post the picture from? I know you can't take FB pictures, copy/paste. But pretty much anything off the computer should post. Sometimes when I see something funny on FB, I will go to google and look for it in images.
Wiggy, a few of us have met in groups. I met with about 6 other loungettes in Vegas, most have left the boards, but MemaSue and Dara were there. I have met with Sue several times, I've stayed with her, met her at her cousins in Phoenix and stayed with her there and she has been to my house as well. NM went on a cruise with about 6 too, and Mema was a part of that as well, even tho I don't think she was feeling all that great. So glad you are able to go with your DD to the cheerleading comp. Please keep a close eye on that incision.
Cami, speaking of incisions, is Leslie still hauling around Zac, the vac? Don't you have something going on today? Scans?

Cami, is this it? It's the only one I see on their website. $24.00, 10% off and free shipping. I'm ok with that, and I'm due for some new mascara. Mine is getting too old, probably more than 3 months!

Hi ladies- woke up early to the sound of pounding rain. Another storm has arrived and I will be winding my way up to the mountains today to my yoga retreat I do every year at this time. The area I will be going to will most certainly be getting snow today.
Bit of a crazy week, I found out on the sly that my contract on my current gig may be getting termed end of the month. Trying to get some answers on it from the VP who directly manages my work but no answers yet. They had initially offered me work through December, and am closing up that awful move project, but my other project is not done until March. If they want me to wrap up by end of January, then next week will be the week to tell me contractually. Stay tuned for more news next week!
Letting go of the consulting world drama and off to my annual January yoga retreat in the mountains. Filled with 4 sessions of yoga, delicious vegetarian dinners and breakfasts, nearby hot springs and possible snow shoeing. It is raining here today, probably snowing up there and expect it to be a wintry weekend!
This will be my get away spot for the yoga retreat this weekend:
Next week I will be back to work for four days and then off to San Diego Thursday evening. I found a spa nearby and going to make an apt to go on Friday while my friend is working. She was not interested to go with me over the weekend, but think it will make for a nice time on my end. Going to call them this morning to make an apt.

Wishing everyone a good weekend and a good three day weekend if you have MLK off from work!

Hey question for you ladies out there. I have seen the oncologist 3xs, the first 2 he did blood tests, guessing looking at the liver count, etc. but the 3rd time was his assistant and she didn't have me do blood tests. Is this a standard to do when you visit your oncologist every 3 months?
I don't wear mascara anymore, most of the lashes are either tiny or sparse. Can you really get a mascara to make you look like you have lashes again?
Well it's friday, and pay day yay.
Not looking forward to the snow coming starting this afternoon into Saturday.

LomLin-This mascara coats your lashes with “tubes”. It may work for you. I swear by it. I have always had terrible eyelashes.

Goldie that cocktail cracks me up! Cheerleading is....well, something! But I’m so happy to be able to go. Glad you are starting to feel better!
Jazzy, San Diego is one of my very favorite places. Enjoy your trip!

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy TGIF day!I am a bit excited today, yesterday's interview went really well despite my being late (I went to the wrong facility first, talk about scatterbrained) and have a second interview next week. It's an exciting position as Staff Education/Development Coordinator in a Nursing Home that is a free standing, not affiliated with any hospital or system, not-for-profit, locally governed and operated. The Board has already approved the position and the space--a suite with a conference room, office, and teaching room. So, any prayers or good thoughts would be welcome next Thursday ayem!I'm not saying anything at the current job just yet, but I did have a fun dream about walking into the office and giving my notice and having the whole place fall apart last night!Very entertaining dream as the building literally came apart in pieces and disappeared! Everyone was left standing in the snow that was coming down. I'm not sure what that says about my imagination or my psyche or my pride, but it was a very entertaining dream! Sadie says Hi to everyone!
LomLin--Wow, that is one low Vit D3 level! It would be fun to get together. Maybe someday I'll travel across the US visiting HTL Loungettes!Sometimes pics don't show up, and it's frustrating! Love the idea of drinking water to surprise my liver!
Wigging--I did good with the outfit, eventually.I started out with leggings and a top and jacket, decided the leggings weren't quite professional enough, changed to a pair of dress pants, didn't like the top with the pants and changed the top, the only things I kept from my first choice of outfit was the jacket and earrings! I don't usually fuss over how I look all that much, so this was really kind of funny! Good for you for getting to the cheerleading competition! Be sure to take some dressing supplies with you just in case, and be careful how you move to keep things from getting worse. Sorry about the headache/migraine. They are horrible!
Goldie--dicyclomine is a good stuff for calming down irritable tummies and bowels. Glad it's making you feel better. I can imagine the bumpy rides must not be much fun. The big storm coming in this weekend is really the first true storm of this season, with 2 feet of snow predicted. To be a storm to my mind there has to be at least 2 feet of snow coming, less than that is just snow, not a snow storm. I really feel good about how the interview went.Got the forms for background check and the official application form to fill out and take back with me. I have to admit I am beginning to hope I get this job.
Great cocktail!
Notice that Maine will be in the 15 to 25 bottles shades of purple???????
Jazzy--I am so jealous of your yoga retreats! They sound so rejuvenating and so wonderful. It probably helps to have some advance notice of the job ending. Both spas look absolutely lovely! Drive safe and then enjoy! Unfortunately for me, MKL Day is a half-assed holiday in Maine, some places closed, some aren't, and of course where I work it's a full work day.
Wigging--interesting mascara!

Lori yes that was the first one I saw, since then I've seen others and they actually have made me look like I have lashes, it's kind of fun then,,,thanks for posting it cuz i don't know how. I'm glad ur feelin better.....YAY U'e had this exact thing before thinking it was food poisoning.
Jazzy I can't member butwasn't there a book like "Travels with............." Now it should be Jazzy. Even tho u work like mad, u still go like mad so glad for u.
Kim I'm always jelly with u and Sadie cuddling, cuz I always want to. Our snow for LomLin, Sandy and me will be starting around 3PM an go thru the nite til noon So we'll see what happens. See y I want Sadie.
Oh LomLin the vit. D thing is craycray, I take it just once a week 50,000 units, now my number was like half of urs but ur is way under too. I told u I'm blaming everything on this now, tiredness, more achy and most importantly bitch extreme <I don't really think that's a side effect but I'm going with it> I've forgotten this once a week thing, but I think I'm going to member it now.
I was a cheerleader for one yr, but it looks like a lot more fun now and fun to see ur DD in it. And now Kim turned it into a drink, like she always can. so we all get to celebrate.
I was sleeping from 6pm last nite thru the whole nite, then Dan called at almost 3am asking if he woke me up, I said that's why u called??? well h never knows rime actually when he's doing paperwork so he asked me his question, how much does he owe me, chit I have no idea, but he'll be around today sometime. Hello Ladies!
Started my three weeks on Abraxane this morning. WBC was high normal so hoping it doesn’t drop too much. I really want to complete the full cycle this time. Found out my husbands band played at the chemo nurse’s wedding in 1996. What a small town/world we live in. Took a nice nap and now will be up all night from the steroids.
NativeMaine: That job sounds great. Hope it is not too far from your home as the commute in the snow would terrify me.
LomLin: I take two 2000ie Vit D daily in the winter and one in the summer. I get out in the sun more then and wear sleeveless shirts when walking without any sunscreen. The levels stay pretty normal.
Wigging: I want to start yoga. Any advice? Congrats on your daughter going to USC. I got my masters from there.
Goldie: started my day with a green smoothie Will definitely have some merlot tonight.
Tomorrow will be another “rest” day watching football and raindrops!
Have a great weekend everyone.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Saturday! Bright, sunny ayem here, no sign of the big storm that'scoming, that has been consistently downgraded as time goes by. Predictions are now looking at 12 to 18 inches, not 2 feet. Probably going to mix with sleet/freezing rain at some point, very yuck, but over with by Monday ayem. So not so much a storm, really. But we'll see, I've seen us get 3 feet when a dusting was predicted as often as vice versa. Sadie spent quite a while out in the yard chasing little critters under the snow, came in with a VERY cold nose and proceeded to stick it on my arm to warm it up! I suppose it's only fair, I use her as a bed warmer at night, right?
Cammy--I think your computer needs to be exorcised to get rid of that post eating gremlin that picks on you! Sadie would love to visit with you, I bet. She really knows how to identify dog people and who she can get lots of treats from. I can' imagine Dan calling at 3 ayem and not realizing what time it is from being buried in paperwork.Makes me giggle. Poor Leslie. If the new doc thinks she should still be on the VAC why doesn't that doc put her back on it???
Librarian--the Staff Educator job is just as far away as the office I currently work in, about 25 miles, about half an hour's drive. This is the commute I've been doing all my working life, except for a few times when I commuted twice as far. And going from driving from visit to visit to driving to work, working and then driving home will really reduce my in car time and gas costs. And being born and raised in Maine, I was taught how to drive in the snow from the beginning, and know when too much is too much and then I don't drive.
In recognition of the time of the year:
The Income Tax Cocktail
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 ounces gin
- 1/4 ounce dry vermouth
- 1/4 ounce sweet vermouth
- 1 ounce orange juice
- 1 dash Angostura bitters
- Optional garnish: orange twist
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake vigorously. Strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with an orange twist.

Jazzy, I don't think we need to tell you to enjoy, but…..ENJOY! Current contract getting termed, is that a good thing or bad thing.
Lom, what is your diagnosis? Are you in active treatment, such as chemo? I have to do labs every 6 weeks, prior to seeing my onc.
Wiggy, can you share a pic of your lashes before and after the mascara. I want to get one or the other to try.
Cami it worked, I am now getting all kinds of ads on my FB for mascara! Can they get her back on the vac? It just seems like doctors now adays just do things willy nilly.
JCS, is abraxane a chemo IV? What did you put in your green smoothie? Had to have been a bunch of green stuff! I have to wait until the afternoon to have mine, as they are like a slushy to me, and not appetizing in the morning to me. I'll stick to my coffee.
NM, I think the dream meant adios, arrivederci, ciao, awwww heck, here ya go.
DOTD....IRISH GOODBYE

Goldie I did radiation and am done with it before I started seeing the oncologist. When I started seeing him he put me on tamoxifen.
Time to start my exercise, shoveling. Snow didn't start as predicted but got it later still snowing as of right now.
This was winter of 2011, there are three cars here in both our driveway and the neighbors. Pictured above. The picture below is the snow up to our 8 foot fence.
I believe it was February 1st. I remember shoveling with the neighbors drinking wine, this project took alllll day. Had to help out an older lady down the street get her car back in her driveway.

Welcome Prissy - you have found an awesome thread! Cold and windy here in sunny Alberta - -12 degrees
Seriously I am too tired today to read or reply to all you wonderful gals, heard 2 too many stories today of friends who are just diagnosed with stage 4 right off the get go! young fellow at 41, colon and livr, and lovely lady at 56, 3 inoperable brain tumours and lung cancer too! Cheers - Janice

Hello, Prissy! Another South Carolina girl. Sorry you are here, but it is a great group to hang with.
Goldie: Abraxane is part of the taxane family and is used with metastatic breast cancer as well as lung cancer. It is supposed to have easier to deal with side effects. So far so good for me, but it is early on.
I have been doing a bunch of reading about genomic and genetic testing. I have an appointment with a counselor to see if doing any testing makes sense. Triple negative can be from the BRCA mutation, but no one in my family has ever had breast cancer. And I am talking about generations of family! Guess I could be the first one. What an honor. 😫🤦🏻♀️
Enjoying my weekend adult beverage. Hope the weekend has been good for everyone so far. How is the weather in Maine
0 -
Hi, Prissy--welcome!
Kim, Oberweis is a local (Chicago-area) dairy with a chain of ice cream/dairy product stores. Their eggnog and their dark chocolate ice cream (which they rarely have) are awesome.
Nobody in my family ever had breast or gyne cancers (nor pancreatic & colorectal). At my first MO appt. after my lumpectomy, I mentioned to her that I had read in Dr. Susan Love's Breast Book that anyone with Ashkenazi Jewish heritage and a breast cancer diagnosis should get genetic testing--and she called down to the Genetic Counseling dept. while I was still in her office. I tested negative.
We got about 6-7" of snow before it stopped around 2 pm. Calling for lake effect snow tomorrow, which by the very capricious nature of the direction of winds over the lake is extremely unpredictable. Bob stayed down near Midway last night to be close to Holy Cross where he had to read echoes early this a.m., and is staying over in Oak Lawn tonight because he already paid for it. Besides, he can take good showers in the hotels. The shower in the first floor bathroom is nonfunctional (lousy-to-no water pressure, despite pipe-clearing services) and we have to wait till at least tomorrow night for the new grout & caulk in the upstairs bathroom to cure. (I have had to take sponge baths at the bathroom sink, as well as wash my hair in the kitchen sink--there are limits as to how many days in a row I can use even the best dry shampoo).
Late Thurs. aft., as Bob was en route home, he got a last-minute invitation to do a survey interview near O'Hare. He wanted an early-ish dinner so he could go to sleep early, so after he dropped his car off in the garage I drove us out there. There's an Italian restaurant & steakhouse, Carlucci, where I'd always wanted to go after rave reviews. The portions were huge, the service attentive, and the prices quite reasonable--especially for steaks, which were about half the prices the Palm charges. I'll give the menu over at the "what's for dinner" thread. Drinks were a brut rosé bubbly (Bob had a Rusty Nail) and a really nice Brunello di Montalcino.
I stayed in all day yesterday. As I was about to go to bed, I went to my purse to retrieve my cellphone to charge it, and.....uh-oh, no phone! I realized that I must have left it in the car overnight, plugged into the power port. (Unlike some of my other cars, including Bob's Fusion, my Outback's power port is dead when the engine is off). It was still snowing too hard, and it was 2:30 am, so I decided to leave it in the car and let my Apple Watch take calls on its number (this watch has cell coverage with the same phone number as my iPhone). This afternoon, after my snow guy had come by and I had lunch, I threw on my sweats, boots & coat and headed out (another inch or two had fallen by then). Sure enough, there was the phone, still plugged into the car's power port. Amazingly, it still had 52% charge remaining!

LomLin, the BeneFit "They're Real"--even just the tinted primer--really lengthens my lashes.

Lom wowsa, that's a lot o snow! Hoping you don't have
Pack a pint glass with snow. Fill with prosecco about 3/4 full (or less if you like a more juicy mimosa). Top off with juice, leaving extra room at the top. Add a handful of fresh snow to finish and a straw or long spoon. an issues with the Tammy pill.
Prissy hi and welcome. We have a few other gals here in your neck of the woods. Sorry you have to be here at all, as none of us would. We can get to be a bit silly at times, but always here for one another. If you have any questions or concerns, I'm sure one of us has an answer!
Janky, that is cold for sure. I am so sorry to hear about your friends. Cancer just seems to be taking over the human race, as well as animals! And hitting such young people and children too.
JCS, they wouldn't give me genetic testing, said I was too old. I had asked for it because my DD was having some "female" probs. I hope it works miracles for you.

Mornin' Ladies,
Welcome Prissy u have joined a great bunch of women, not just interesting but fun when we need it. Hope u come back and share more about urself it's nice to get to know everyone.
Lori I hope today is better for u. See I told u when u hook up to one selling item, u get bombarded with all kinds, that's why I've tried a few , u know I'm no beauty but it feels nice ro have lashes again. Lori everytime Leslie sees different Drs. for all this chit they don't know why the last Dr.Did whatever. It's like they all went to school in different areas in Guatemala. I don't understand a thing , but then again have I ever.
OK Jazzy I don't understand about this job, it might end way before it was supposed to.?? ? But u have another on the line, U've had everything planned around these projects, jeez I hip it all works out.
Kim how are ur job things going, Iknow I've missed some posts. My puter used to go to the Ist one now it just goes will-nilly. Now we have 3 of us from the same area reporting our weather and yet sometime we don't get the exact weather, Lom-Lin and I get about the same.
BTW LomLin is ur nick name from the restaurant on St. Charles in Lombard, just sounds like it.
Lori I missed anything about ur skans. Yes I'm up for it too, but I take my time, u know that. U know how I never read junk about what they tell me, cuz I don't want to know. well this last time I did and see what happened, of course all my numbers are all screwed up so I looked up these things---within an hour I had every symptom that was possible to have, thats; the real reason I don't look anything up. Me bad.
Someone here <I'm sorry I forgot> said they were the first in the family to have cancer. . Wow to me that's so unusual, most of the women have had it, even my mom in the 50's. so when u felt a lump u just figured u had it. What a jolt to get it knowing no one else had it. It might have started before my mom, cuz before that the women didn't go to Drs. really and they all thought if u had the C word and got operated on it it would immediately spread thru ur body. My team of Drs. <my cousin, sister and myself> figured that's what they died from eventually cuz none of them had heart attacks they were sick for a while and got weaker and died. So we decided that's what they had. Cuz in my family we have more boobless women than we have boobs. My DD was the only one who tried recon but we all know how that's going---a great big mess, actually horrendous right now.
See I''m blabbering again I'm tired. I was falling asleep last nite, the phone rang and someone had a furnace not working, well I have to make like 3 calls then call back and I was wide awake and stayed awake, of course I woke the guys up but I don't care, they're young and it doesn't bother them. Even if it did bother them I still don' care if I'm up everyone is up.
OK another stupid thing, whenever I eat with regular silverware I still smell metal, so I still have metal mouth. So I'm still on plastic, one of my trivial nonsense that I spew out.
LUBS U ALL
