cami - you make me laugh!! I am usually upbeat and try to make the best of each situation. So my hernia is NOT a hernia, he is thinking inflamed diverticulitis cells on my small intestine or some such, nothing to fuss about (he is NOT experiencing my symptoms!!) anyway, I will accept his dx . Going for a colonscopy in March so may hear more then, though I certainly hope not ;)

goldie - so very sad to hear about your mom, distance is so hard - my mom lives in Brunswick, GA now, so going to see her and dad February 27, right now she is holding her own which is good, then off to the west coast of florida - Sarasota, which is where my son and his family live; we will be there till March 21, then home to Alberta

Mistyeyes - was hoping it was closer to Sarasota or even Frostproof where my sister is, but Hoomassa is wayyyy the other way ;)

Muddling - sorry to hear about your dad, as I said to goldie, the distance is so very difficult

JCS - glad you like your wig,I ore mine for the same reason, when I did not want to look like a cancer patient! I was a high school Librarian for 22 years, reitred and got cancer, bleh!

chi - love the lashes and belated birthday wishes

NM - sounds like a fantastic opportunity and I am sure that Sadie does not tire from you blabbering to her, she is dancing the happy dance for sure!

illi - hope all is well with warm water too ;)

Hi Jazzy, Lom, CeliaC and everyone else - have a great weekend, yayyyyyyyy NO football... Cheers!

We have a BCO "alumna," LovesToFly (Jill from Toronto), who has actually done YouTube makeup tutorials illustrating how she faked eyebrows while experiencing chemo-related hair loss.

Cami, we don't bring up the creamation with my mom, she does have a plot, but we won't be using it. She did tell me at one point that she didn't care what we did, but then reverted back to being buried. We will all just share some ashes. I'm pretty sure it's the FU pills that make my eyes red. And as for scans, I don't have results yet, is that what you meant?

Muddling, I too am sorry to hear about your dad. It's horrible being so far away. I hate seeing my mom like this, so I know it will be for the best when she does transition over. I have to keep reminding myself, she is NOT going to get better. I'm going to miss her terribly, I am her only girl and I have 3 brothers. I pray she can hold on until I get there. I just want to hold her and tell her how much I love her and how much I am going to miss her, and that I will see her on the other side one day. She does not know of my stage IV cancer.

Sandy, govt. shutdown never entered my mind about flying....yikes! I hope everything will be ok! Your skin sounds like mine, blotchy, fair and then throw in a face full of freckles! Hate looking pasty.I should go to one of those places that will do your make-up, I assume hoping you will buy the product, but I'm too vain to go in somewhere w/o make up on! I feel so ugly! Funny you will wear clear glasses as a cover up and I'm just the opposite, I HATE wearing my glasses and always take them off for pictures.

Jazzy, I just know you are enjoying yourself and time with your sister. OMG, what a gorgeous sunset!

JCS, I too like Live PD. Love the cop shows and also Untold Stories in ER, Body Bizarre, any of those kinds of shows. Sounds like you might be able to wean off BP meds. I'm not a fan of yogurt, but would force it down in the mornings to take my FU pills, since I only take 2, lately I've just been taking them with my coffee. I so need to find something that will cover up mese freckles! I never did draw on any eyebrows, they were light to begin with so I just used some eye shadow.

Janky, Cami makes us all laff! Hoping your heiny scope doesn't show anything significant. LOL at "yay, no football". I'm not into any kind of sports. You must be looking forward to hitting GA and FL for the winter months! Is your mom ill? How old?

Went to the movies yesterday, saw Aquaman. It was ok, I would have much rather seen it in 3D, it was a good movie for that. Wishing everyone stays warm, Baby it's cold outsie! Especially you Illinois gals and you too NM. I know my family in MI is getting some cold temps too.

    Cheers!

    DOTH-ICE COLD COCKTAIL

It's the real name of the drink, but has a summery feel and oh so pretty. However, I have no idea what a "tot" is.

Image result for ice cold cocktail

    1 tot Vodka
    2 tots Pimm's
    2 tots Bols Blue
    2 tots Grenadine
    100 ml Orange juice
    200 ml Coke

    • In a blender blitz coke and Pimm's with lots of ice to form a thick slush puppy. Spoon the ice mixture into a large glass.
    • Rinse the blender and put in orange juice and vodka, blitzing to form the same consistency and spoon on top of coke mixture.
    • Rinse blender and blitz grenadine with about 5 blocks of ice before spooning the mixture on top of the orange layer.
    • Rinse blender and repeat the process with the Bols Blue, spooning on top as the final layer.
    • Garnish with pineapple piece and umbrella.

According to Merriman Webebster, of course we know it's NOT a small child! And what constitutes a "small" drink. A splash, an ounce, a shot????

    tot noun \ ˈtät \

    Definition of tot

    (Entry 1 of 2)

    1 : a small child : toddler 2 : a small drink or allowance of liquor : shot

    Oops, forgot a few things.

First and foremost, my LDB-MemaSue. I hope you are doing ok after your surgery and pain is minimal. I love you!

Then, the mascara. I'm not impressed. Doesn't seem to do any more than my $8.00 pink/green tube of Mabeline mascara. Here is a pic I took yesterday. Only showing it so big so that you can see all the freckles, not to mention the wrinkles around the mouth! Gosh, maybe I DO look 60.Singing

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Saturday! Sadie and I were terribly lazy yesterday, so we need to get on the ball and do some housework today. Sadie is so good at emptying trash cans and sorting the recyclables from the other stuff. Then she uses the recyclables as toys. Some days I think I pick up the same trash a dozen times! Still, she's so happy and proud of herself when she finds a new "toy" that I can't stay mad at her. I see the Federal shut down is over for the moment, but I wonder what's going to happen in 3 weeks. And what is going to happen to all the unpaid workers in the long term? And how, as a plan ol' citizen, can I have any effect on making sure it doesn't happen again?

Cammy--Good Morning!Sounds like a busy day for you and the guys. I bet people are relieved when one of the guys shows up.

Chi--I wish the trend of using glasses as a fashion statement had been going on when I was growing up.I started wearing glasses when I started school and hated it. I was always being teased and told I couldn't do things, either because my glasses might get knocked off and broken, or because wearing glasses meant I couldn't see well enough to do whatever. I was so happy to get into contacts as an adult.

Jazzy--Ah, a pool side bar!Almost as good as a swim up bar!

    Thank you, MinusTwo!

Librarian--the job is a win-win-win situation, and I am holding my breath waiting for the background and reference checks and getting the formal offer! It's going to be a pretty big change going back to full time work, but it will be a good change. Looks like you are going to get the blood pressure lowering effect from the chemo, that's a good thing if you can get off the other blood pressure med. Good luck with keeping the white cell count up. That takes a lot of work. And life can be good, even with the rat ba$#ard in our lives.Glad life is good for you right now!

    I'm jealous, Jazzy!

Janky--Sadie was doing a lot of dancing the other day. She does seem to have lots of patience with my babbling, as long as there are tummy rubs involved from time to time!

Goldie--Out of curiosity I did an internet search on how much a "tot" is.Looks like it's a European measurement, some sources say 1 tot = 25 ml, some say 1 tot = 1 shot, but isn't so clear about that being a 1 ounce shot or a 2 ounce shot.

    Mornin' ladies,

Kim I have to apologize to u, some how I didn't read about ur new job, but bits and pieces have put it together and now I am really happy for u. but full time, again if u like what u do that's all that counts and whatever u do u'll outshine anyone else. Ur an amazing compassionate woman with the best sidekick since Tonto.

Lori u r always beautiful, oh now I've tried a few mascaras, but Sandy's looks really good. But still not long enough for me, IDK why u'd think I'd be happy for anything, but being Italian hair has always been something we were never short of, including lashes. I'm terrible about this I remember when I'd wear sunglasses and had to move them down cuz my lashes would hit them, now there's nothing there, so my mission is just as important as Luke Skywalker finding his father. And someone did say "LUKE I AM UR FATHER" and I'll say MASCARA I FOUND YOU. But Lori I'm sure Benefit might really work well. Freckles, ur so cute.

Sandy that was a great tip for wearing makeup and using stuff for eyebrows too.

OK Janky u are all part of my medical team so I can go back to Drs. and tell them what to do...oh yea they roll their eyes but I don't care. I was told I had 3 hernias and u can see them, but as long as they are stable they're leaving them alone, so I figured u'd give me an answer, LOL

These damn phones keep ringing. I come back and loose my train of thought. Do not say a word about my train.

Oh I'd better go for now, but I'll be baaack.

    LUBS U ALL

Hello ladies - it's been awhile since I have checked in. I do enjoy reading everyone's posts. I am so impressed with how well many of you have kept up with each other, some for quite some time. I can tell you are like family.

I live on the NC/SC border (Charlotte city limits is just across the bridge) so we don't get a lot of severe cold and nasty weather that some of you get in the winter. We've had a ton of rain though. Lots of dreary days. I'm already ready for spring, though I know I shouldn't complain.

JCS - Columbia isn't that far from me. We should meet some time!

Dealing with aging parents is really hard. I was heavily involved my both of my parents care, but I was in my mid-late 40's and healthy. I can't imagine doing it while fighting cancer. Goldie, I hope your mom makes it til you get there.

I start radiation on Monday for the next 4 weeks. I had my trial run Thursday and it went pretty well. Several of my friends have told me it's no big deal. Hope that will be my experience. I didn't have chemo, so I'm grateful for not already be dealing with fatigue before I even start.

It's after 5 and it's Saturday, so time for a glass of wine!

    Cheers and Happy Weekend!

Got down to -4 last night, we're at today's high of 13. Of course, that means more snow. Sigh. Not going anywhere tlll Tues., but it's gonna be brutal out there. Even walking from the parking lot to the mall will be like torture. We are supposed to have a high of 4 on Wed. and a low of -11; Thurs. -4 and -17, respectively. We have an 11:20 am flight out of Midway Fri., and will have to be bundled up like Eskimos (guess that's un-PC) till we get inside the terminal. Hope my boarding pass is TSAPre, so I can keep my UGGs on. We are taking an extra empty suitcase just for our winter outerwear (thank heaven SW allows 2 free bags each).

Tonight will be last night's leftovers, plus Mongolian beef & rice Bob is bringing home from the office's lunch. DOTD will be, like last night, a splash of Louis Martini Cab. Sauv.

Phew - where does the day go?! Saturday night, did not do too much, yet I am pooped! Enjoying a nice cold lager though :) My hernia is not a hernia - it may be inflamed diverticuli, so will know more after my colonoscopy end of March...The surgeon was really thorough though and reassured me that my most recent scan of January 9 showed no organ involvement!! which is what my RO had said as well, so I was not that concerned.

goldie - I am not the greatest sports fan either. My mom has dementia which is slowly progressing to her current state of moderate, she has really good days, then really NOT good days' she is 86 and dad is 88 and getting tired. They live in a seniors residence which will have space for mom when the time comes, but it is exhausting for him day in day out. I have not told them of my stage iv diagnosis as mom will not really understand and dad has more than enough on his plate - Not to sound callous but I am truly hoping to outlive them so it does not affect them. :(

Hubby and I are going to watch 'A star is born', eat popcorn, then off to bed early, not sure why I am so pooped?! BTW - I enjoy live PD and border security - what strange things people try to get away with! Have a great weekend Cheers!

We watched "Roma" last night. The exposition was excruciatingly slow, probably to show off the B&W cinematography. There didn't even seem to be a plot till half an hour in. I expected an "oh, so THAT's why it's so great" moment as in "Moonlight." In retrospect it was very good, but IMHO not Best Picture material. The critics are raving as if it were the best B&W film since "Z." But critics don't vote in the Oscars.

You'll love "A Star is Born."

NM, I always type in note pad, then copy/paste to our thread. However, I didn't highlight far enough, so what I wrote to you didn't get posted! Here is what I had written yesterday morning.
NM, I'm ecstactic for you, to say the least. I guess the only thing I question is the fact that it's full time, and you have really enjoyed the PT. Is that gonna be ok for you? Otherwise, I think you might have this one bagged! It's gonna be a looooooooong week!

Prissy, you can get fatigue from radiation. Mine always hit at the end of the week. Be sure to rest if it hits you, or you will be worse off. It didn't bother me getting it, but it burned my breast and I had second degree burn and maybe some third degree. I believe NM was burnt too.

Janky, it's always been my hope as well, to outlive my parents. My dad passed last year, and he did not know of my health either, however he had very bad alzeimers. Mom has dimentia, but lots of other issues as well. Very obese, copd (which is really what did her in) high BP, diabetes, fibromialgia, herniated discs in her back, geeze what else? Oh A fib. I'll have to look up border security, haven't seen that one.

Sandy, haven't seen any of those movies.

Now Cami, you know there is no apologizing here. I too can remember my eyelashes hitting my glasses. I have to wear sunglasses now, because my eyes are so sensitive to the sunlight, and of course I don't look good in sun glasses either. And because I can't see, I wear sunglasses over the top of my perscription glassses. Guess I should break down and get a pair of prescription sun glasses eh? LOL at us being part of your medical team. Ya, tell the doctors we are trying to encourage you to drink!!!

Muddling, I too like olives and their good on burgers too. When we go to Laughlin, hubby gets bloody marys in the morning and I get his olives, he doesn't like them. I just get vodka and tomato, with olives in it too. So pretty much olives for breakfast!

Some of you know already, but I was able to change my plane ticket and am leaving next Saturday. My other flight would have put me in MI while my brother was in Cancun and I was only going to see him for one night and morning that I leave. So now I will get to see him the entire time, I stay at his place. This is him when he came to visit me.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Sunday Funday! Bright and sunny this ayem, a bit chilly at 5 degrees. No bean suppahs scheduled for yesterday, so Mom heated up canned beans, made brown bread and biscuits and had me pick up some cole slaw and red snappers, so we had an old-fashionedSaturday night bean suppah right at home! Instead of pies for dessert Mom made custard. Sadie got lots of attention and loved that.

Goldie--looked like we bumped each other into the pool yesterday!

Muddling--here in the HTL, you can have whatever you want for brunch! Or any other time of the day for that matter!

Cammy--no need to apologize, the new job isn't final yet, hoping to get the formal offer this coming week. Yes, it does mean going back to full time, but it is also an hourly based job, meaning I'll know what hours I am working every day. There will be some evening and night work doing classes for the evening and night shift staff, but those will be planned ahead of time. No more getting at call at 3 or 4 peeyem and finding out I'll be working until 6 or 7 peeyem or later. And NO MORE DRIVING ALL DAY!I will drive to work, work, then drive home.

Morning, Prissy!Good luck with the radiation. I pray it goes easily for you. And don't apologize for complaining about weather, it's a basic human right to complain about the weather! What kind of wine are you drinking?

Chi--That TSAPre is pretty handy, isn't it? Lugging around winter gear when traveling is not fun. Good idea to take a separate suitcase for it!

    Janky--nice to get the confirmation of the RO's scan reading, I bet. Watching dementia progress in a loved one is just so freaking hard. {{{hugs}}}

Goldie--LOL--I've done the same thing when copying and pasting, I know exactly how that happens! The fact that the new job will be full time will mean some adjusting. I have enjoyed having control of my own work schedule, but this schedule will be predictable and I'll be able to get into a routine. As it is now when I go in to work I never know if I will be working for 4 or 5 hours or for up to 12 hours. And to be honest, I've been a bit bored and sometimes a bit lonely working part time. And to go to work and feel like I am actually contributing is going to be a great feeling. It is going to be a looong week, though! So good you could change flights and will get to see your brother! That will make the trip easier for you, I'm sure.

Teka, except for the holes in the snow on my "parkway" (grass strip between curb & sidewalk) where the neighborhood pooches have left their little "presents."

Temps are rising into the teens all day, and with sunshine, a lot of the 3" we got yesterday is melting. But tonight through tomorrow, we're in for anywhere from 5-10" more. (Maybe with a brief spate of "wintry mix" at the beginning, when the temp could be >32F). After church, Bob went to Cellars and brought back quiche & salad; and then on a vodka run to Whole Foods, a bag of mandarin oranges and a chunk of Point Reyes blue cheese to have tonight with slices of Asian pear, almonds (out of walnuts) and a port (either vintage, or a CA or Aussie "ruby" imitation) I plan to open. Most people would sip it by the fireside. But we use our fireplace as a wall against which to lean my guitars in their cases--so perhaps we can find a "fireplace channel" on the TV and zone out looking at that. (Remember when on Christmas Eves past some stations substituted a live "Yule log" feed for their normal programming)?

I love all the photos and the frozen dog poop references! I’m so bad with cold weather. I seriously don’t think I would ever leave my house if I had to deal with some of the weather that you ladies are describing! Then again when I’m sweating my fake boobs off this summer, I may be wishing for freezingness!

Took my oldest to visit the college she’ll be attending in the fall. We walked 7 miles and I’m paying for it today. I’m tired, ladies, so tired! I slept 10 hrs and took a 3 hr nap. Hoping to bounce back tomorrow and that the tamoxifen is not making me overly tired. I’m trying to not get any SE’s from the stuff!!! Haha. I did try to have a drink (a Dos Equis dark) for the first time since starting it and I got exactly 3 sips in and started feeling super dizzy. So that didn’t go well!

    Hugs to all of you!

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Monday! Yeah, another work week starts off with a bang. Got a text from Clinical Manager #4 yesterday, she has 3 visits for me today, doesn't think she'll have any work for me Tuesday or Wednesday. If I needed a sign that it's time to move on, this would be it. Well, such is life, and I knew this could happen when I changed to Per Diem status, but in 2 years it's only happened a few times. Looks like some extra Sadie time coming up this week!

Teka--LOL!That is one advantage of snow!

Chi--I do remember the Yule log feeds, and getting a Fireplace VHS tape back when those were popular. I'm sure you will be able to find a fireplace video on YouTube if no where else!

Hey, Gigi!So glad treatment is going so well for you!

    LOL Teka!

Jazzy--oh my, those are great pics!

Wigging--You walked 7 miles?Good for you! I bet you'll bounce back pretty quickly now that you've had some rest. Dizzy after 3 sips of beer? Not so good. You must be out of practice!

    Cold Comfort Martini

    Ingredients

Pour both ingredients into a cocktail shaker half-filled with cracked ice. Shake well, and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a twist of lemon, and serve.

Best served in a Cocktail Glass.

NM, I love having morning swims with you! How nice that you had bean suppah with mom and Dick, and of course Sadie too! Waiting is the hardest part! Do you know what day you will hear something?

Sandy, I guess your neighobors don't clean up after their pooches...how rude! LOL, the yule tide on the tv!

Gigi, so nice to hear that your treatments are going well! They should remain that way.

Jazzy, what a little cutie, that seal. And the ocean pic looks like a post card!

Wiggy, I sleep about 10 hours every night! But naps...forget it. Can't do it, no matter how tired I might feel. OH MY, my feet could not handle a 7 mile walk. I did Arimidex, so can't offer anything in regards to being on the Tammy train.

Here are some pictures of my feet.

Well went to the in laws last night for their 64th wedding anniversary, made them dinner. I did crab legs, filet Mignon and potatoes au gratin. I cooked the steaks in a cast iron skillet, yum. They turned out perfect! Brought them some yellow lilies, too. fun night. They are both in their mid 80's so pretty much are shut ins. Tangueray and tonic my drink for the evening.

Now waking up to this crap!! Yes I did drive to work! I have driven in far worse. As years go on the crews get better in keeping up with the roads, at least the main roads. Now as far as going in on Wednesday I don't know. Projected wind chills are around -50. I sure don't want to get stranded on the roads.

Hi, MemaSue! Good to see you check in here, but not so good that you're in so much post-op pain. Can you takd advantage of the recreational MJ dispensaries in NV? (I'm gonna be in Vegas this weekend--just in time for Chicago to warm up).

Last night I opened a half-bottle of Yalumba (Aussie) "Antique Tawny Museum Reserve" Port and had an ounce with some Point Reyes Bay Blue cheese and a couple of Raincoast Crisps. Yum! No need for dessert. Yalumba also makes a ruby-style port called "Clocktower" which is wonderful.

Awoke to about another 3" of snow--we at the lakefront definitely got spared the worst of it. Temps peaked ar 34F this a.m. and beginning to drop steadily: 28 and windy. Will awake tomorrow to -3, with a high barely creeping above zero. Wed. will be the absolute pits: waking up to -21 (or worse) and warming up only to -11. (A record for the lowest high temp ever recorded here, beating 1982). Thurs. not much better: -22 on arising, high of -3, dropping down to -5 Fri. morning (when we leave for Midway) before warming up just enough to snow again. 42 (above) on Sat., mid-30s and "wintry mix" Sun. Wonder what awaits us upon our return Tues. night.

Housekeeper called: two flat tires (discovered after digging her car out). She cancelled her DH's eye appt. for tomorrow (actually, the V.A. called to reschedule all elective non-urgent appts.) and will get here come hell or high water...(actually too cold for either hell or high water). She says she will come Wed. & Thurs. too and may sleep over Thurs. to take us to Midway unless we're sure we can get a cab or rideshare. I am cancelling my Wed. manicure (I'm sure I can find a nail salon that does non-chip manis in Vegas) and probably Heidi's (girl kitty) vet appt. Thurs. We can bundle ourselves up, but not sure if we can protect her carrier while still giving her enough oxygen to breathe. And speaking of DOTDs, it's highly doubtful we'll go to the winemaker dinner Thurs. night (assuming it's still on).

    Hello all,

For all you cold weather girls, stay safe and warm tonight. We will get a bit of cold rain tomorrow, but no other mess. Giving myself a pedicure while watching the Lady Gamecocks play basketball. Have some social occasions this week and will wear my wig. Keep your fingers crossed my white blood cell count has not dipped too low. This Friday will be the third infusion of this cycle. If all goes well, I will get the Neulasta patch for the weekend. I did get some housework done today. Still no awful side effects. I do hope that continues for a while.

Seriously, look out for that cold weather

Kim - thought of you today....I was working in a coffee shop by my house as I didn't want to drive in the snow....a hospice nurse was there working away on the computer...I'm sure logging patient notes....BTW, in-home hospice took care of my mother the last two weeks of her life and I saw that they are angels dressed as humans.

Lori - wow - your feet look so painful. I hope they don't hurt as bad as they look.

    Stay warm and dry.....

Good Morning, Loungettes!Getting up to another cold one this ayem. 5 above the donut on the thermometer, 6 below the donut with wind chill. Sadie went out, piddled, and ran straight back in and burrowed under the bedcovers while they were still warm! Don't blame her. Wouldn't mind staying under the covers a while longer myself. The work drama goes on, I got a text from Clinical Manager #4 yesterday afternoon telling me I have 5 visits scheduled to me for today. Then I get a call from Clinical Manager #1, who was not working yesterday, wanting to make sure I knew I had visits today after CM #4 called CM#1 to find out who put visits on my scheduled after she (CM#4) "gave you the rest of the week off."Apparently CM #4 was not happy that I had visits scheduled without her OK. Add to that the office Director announced that he is leaving to take a regional position and the entire office is in a bit of an uproar. Not very Christian of me, but the first thing that went through my mind was that CM#4 is just kiss a$ enough with upper management that she'd get promoted and then bullying will become the accepted way of dealing with staff, and thank goodness I am getting out now.

Goldie--I don't have a specific day to hear, the HR lady just said sometime this week. The sooner the better in my mind, and I'm practicing being patient. Oh my, your poor feet! That just looks painful.

Cammy--Wind chill of 50 below?Talk about instant frostbite! My mini vacay just got shortened a bit, got some work to do today. It'll be interesting to see what happens about tomorrow. It's a lot easier to put up with the nonsense knowing it's time limited.

LOL @ holding on til the weekend!

LomLin--make sure you have a survival kit in the car if you do go out Wednesday! I think the temp here will drop over the weekend, but not like that, at least I hope not!

Mema--Glad you are home again, sorry you are hurting, praying it gets better every day. Family harping on stuff is annoying, very annoying.

Chi--Talk about a deep freeze! I don't blame you for not going out in that if you don't have to!

Librarian--Praying your white blood cell count is good and you continue to never have any other side effects.

Karen--I'm glad your Mom got good care at the end of her life, it's an important time. And I bet that nurse was logging notes, I've done that in a coffee shop many a day!
