Look for the brands "Hemp Bombs" and "Select:" they are the purest non-THC CBD that have been 3rd party-vetted. They come in different flavors: I like the Hemp Bombs Watermelon and Select Lemon-Ginger. (It also comes in Lavender & Pink Grapefruit, either of which are dicey if you're on an aromatase inhibitor). The only contraindication (and it's a partial one) for CBD is if you're on an SSRI or DNRI anti-depressant: they occupy the same enzymatic pathway; my shrink says if you notice your anti-depressant isn't working as well as it used to, to cut back on the CBD). Hemp Bombs makes a 15mg. gummy that works nicely for sleep. The thing about CBD is that it's about as "transparent" as it gets--few to no side effects. If you don't have a health food or vape shop that carries these, try HelloMD.com. (It has separate pages for CBD products, which it ships everywhere, and THC, which ships only w/in California). I'm bringing only CBD with me to Vegas, as we're planning to hit the dispensary there tomorrow to lawfully purchase THC stuff. (Can't bring it into or carry it out of NV).

Back to drinking. Just got home from Cellars' Viña Robles (between San Luis Obispo & Santa Barbara) winemaker dinner (to which we took a Lyft, as it was sitll below zero and had started to snow again). Started with chardonnay and a scallop crudo with watermelon-cucumber granita & shaved Fresno chiles. Then "White 4" (Viognier, Verdelho, Vermentino & Chenin Blanc) with a smoked veggie slider and polenta fries with spicy aoili. Rosé (Viognier/Petite Sirah) with strawberry soup and yogurt & mint sauce. "Red 4" (Petite Sirah, Granache, Mourvedre and Sangiovese) with veal shank and lentilles du Puy. Finally, Petite Sirah with spiced chocolate pot de creme, vanilla cream and an almond macaron. Headed out into the 3F cold (no wind, just flurries) and walked home. This morning it was 60F in the front room, and I had to wear UGGs, leggings & a T-shirt beneath my PJs, a hoodie over it and a quilted jacket on top. Tonight it's 70, and I can even sit here barefoot!

NM, I am SUPER STOKED for you. Congratulations and "take that CM #4". 3 more work days, unless they try dropping something in your lap at the last minute. But I'm not so sure this makes Sadie happy.

Cami, I can only imagine how busy your phones are with this cold weather. And only 4 or 5 guys working? How many are there total?

Jazzy, welcome home. Any plans for the weekend, or just relax? Knowing you, you will be doing something. Even if it's cleaning.

JCS, we have to have something to hold on to, I hope the Israeli cure is going to happen. It's good feel like your old self, isn't it? What card game do you gals play?

Mema, your step mom def. lived a long life. I hope we can all make it to 89! Or at least 80,

Sandy, looks like you should be good for your flight. Have a fun time. Interesting meal!

Gigi, I take CBD oil, it helps me with diarhea, and sometimes so the stuff with THC in it to help me sleep. Some take the CBD oil for pain, where others say it does nothing for you. There's a great group on FB with almost 8000 members that share their experience with the CBD and THC. Feel better. https://www.facebook.com/groups/158067737931960/

Janky, hang in there girl, it will come to pass eventually.

I have to be out of here by 8 am tomorrow, 4 hour drive to the airport, to catch a 1:45 flight. Always anxious to see my family.

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy TGIF day! Still very brrrr here, but still above the donut. Only 7 above, but still above. Big temperature changes on tap for the weekend for some parts of the country. Crazy times. Even Sadie is thinking twice about chasing the little critters in the yard this ayem!

Goldie--looks like we bumped each other into the pool again! That Pizza Cocktail sounds amazing!

Cammy--I can imagine how busy your guys are just now! And they are working all night? That's real dedication and caring. "Good Morning/Prove it" is a riot!

Jazzy--So glad your trip was fun and you had great temps! The week off between jobs will be a stay at home week. I'm not getting the hours I need so the paychecks are getting very lean, so there's no doing anything extra right now. But that is ok, I'm going to plan out a deep housecleaning focus for the week, and use the time as a reset and to start developing some new habits. And pampering Silly Sadie.

Librarian--Sounds like your appointment was productive and not too traumatic, that's a good thing. I hope the genetic testing finds something that will be helpful for you. Good to have time to ketchup with friends and gossip, too.

Mema--glad to hear you are feeling better. I've never worn Spanx, but I've looked at them on line and they look like torture devices! I hope your 2 weeks of wearing them isn't too uncomfortable. Thanks for the congrats, I am very excited!

    Thanks, Muddling!

    Chi--prayingyour flights leave on time!

Gigi--Yikes, nothing but delays! And a draining without numbing? I don't think I could deal with that. Did you happen to see the color of the fluid that was taken out? Clear is good, cloudy is ok, yellow or green is bad.

    Janky--poor thing! {{{hugs}}}

Chi--the Opioid crisis sure has changed the way THC and CBD are looked at now, hasn't it?

Goldie--with all the changing going on at Hospice I do not anticipate any last minute bargains. Besides, it would be too little too late now. And I really do not want to be working there during the change of Directors, cuz no matter how they handle it, promote from within or bring in from outside, it's going to be chaotic. Major changes need to happen and that is going to create a lot of strong emotional reactions. Been through that, don't want to have to go through it again. I had lunch with a co-worker yesterday, she's on medical leave due to job stress, and we compared notes. Lots of good people are looking at leaving or cutting back hours, with the census and geographic area that office covers that is going to be disastrous. I feel much better being out of it entirely. Have a safe flight and good visit with the family!

    Thank for the Celebration Cocktail!

Good morning friends- it looks like the deep freeze may be moving out of the Midwest but now going to be in the 50s? The meme below speaks to the Midwest response this (lol). Been reading up on the polar vortex and one of three places in the world getting these frigid temps.

Goldie- this weekend is HOME time after not being here much for the past few weeks. My last weekend at home was mid January with the yoga retreat, followed by the San Diego get away. I have a list of accrued to-dos like you would not believe, but been plugging through the smaller items after work this week. The weekend will be focused on home, biz tax time, some errands, and some much needed exercise routines. Oh and I plan to make some tortilla soup too (will share recipe if this turns out good). I have no travel plans again until perhaps late spring around Memorial Day weekend.

Janky- my heart goes out to you friend. The meds you need made you sick. I have had pneumonia twice in my life and it's awful. Your body is being put through the paces.

NM- I totally get the money thing, and having some home time to get caught up on things there (do you still have your dumpster for the de-cluttering) will be a good thing as the new job will probably consume a lot of your energy as you get up to speed quickly. Always my experience with new things, lots to take in quickly and exhausted at night. Miss Sadie will be thrilled to have you around too! Enjoy that week off in between and it will feel good to close the chapter with hospice once and for all. They sound very broken.......

I think I forgot to update folks on my work situation since it was said that they were possibly terming my contract at the end of the month. Right before I went to San Diego, one of operational managers who runs the team I work with quit (last day was yesterday) and another gaping hole was created there. The good guy manager I work with talked to the CTO, whom I work for (but whom has barely talked to me in a month since we finished the data center) about being sure they could keep me through March. He said he was planning on that and to coordinate with me on my schedule. My current projects should be done by mid March and I told myself I could continue to help them with the other work coming on but only PT. I do not want to be there on site FT anymore as the place is too unstable and time to mix it up.

That being said, I had a juicy opp come up last weekend via a prof colleague here. He did a referral for me and yesterday they reached out to plan a meeting with me. Going to add this in to the mix and hopefully better paying! I should know more after Monday!

Okay, gotta get in to the client site and wishing you all a good start to Superbowl weekend if you are in to such things!

    Happy Friday everyone!

I was able to get the last infusion of this cycle and the Neulasta patch today. So far all is good. The shot will happen tomorrow afternoon around 3:00pm. My blood pressure was 109/60 today. It has gone steadily down since starting chemo. I will definitely be asking the Oncologist about that. Had a good time laughing with the chemo nurses about all kinds of things. Before my mother died she was very confused and angry. All of her encounters with nurses (she LOVED male doctors) and aideswere traumatic and painful for them. I am determined to be different from that. If I have to spend time with all these people, it will be something we can enjoy for as long as possible.

Hope all are looking forward to the warmer weather on the way for next week. I will get outdoors and enjoy some humidity free, pollen free, soft sunshine. Tell me a drink I can make with Prosecco that tastes like sunshine!

Long day today—up at 6:30 am. Was about to call for the Lyft when the handle of my rollaboard broke off in my hand (Rimowa has a lifetime warranty, but that does me no good at the last minute). Good thing I’m a pack rat and was able to switch suitcases. Plane left on time, landed early. Settled in, got a mani at the hotel spa, napped a bit till Leslie got in. Went to Katsuya at the SLS for dinner—my DOTD was Gruet Brut with the sushi & sashimi and a Russian River area Pinot Noir with the Kobe ribeye. Then walked to the dispensary, where I discovered there was a separate area for MMJ patients—including out-of-state. They were able to help me choose stuff to microdose this weekend to supplement my CBD, and I got a first-timer discount too. (Going to have to stuff the leftovers into socks).

Weather was nice and mild today, but it’s going to rain tomorrow afternoon into evening, possibly Monday too. Natch, forgot to pack an umbrella, and the resort’s market doesn’t sell them. Gonna turn sharply colder here Monday night into Tuesday, with highs only in the 40s. When we land in Chicago, we’ll be greeted with snow showers and high 20s. Wednesday night it’s supposed to dip down to 1F. Talk about rotten timing

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Saturday! Currently 2 whole degrees above the donut, with wind chill to 12 below. At least it's not quite as cold as it has been, and is supposed to warm up a bit through the week and even rain again midweek. Mother Nature is totally off her rocker. But the days have gotten long enough for it to be light out until almost 5:30 now, that's a big improvement. Sadie is currently warming up my recliner for me.

Jazzy--I expect it will be tiring to begin with as I learn the new regs and routines and such, but the hours will be stable so I can develop a routine, which will help immensely. I decided to take the week before the new job off just for that reason, to have a true closure, a true change of routine,to help me let all that go, and to have a little time to grieve leaving the type of work I really enjoy and the patients and people I was working with. There's always some loss to grieve even when making a positive change, and I plan to acknowledge that so I can more completely let it go. I do still have the dumpster, and do not plan on getting rid of it any time soon. It's just so convenient, and at $34 a month it's inexpensive. It's worth so much more to me! The Hospice office is broken, and I'm not sure the upcoming changes are going to fix it, but make it worse. We shall see, but from a distance. Sounds like the work situation is falling apart, but it also sounds like you have other options to move on to. Sounds like you are going to be fine, and that is a very good thing!

Librarian--Glad to hear your counts held up and treatment is progressing. I can understand wanting to be able to enjoy the time with the staff, that's going to be a big chunk of your life moving forward.

    Illi--thanks!

Chi--Talk about last minute adjustments! Glad you had another suitcase to switch to. The weather changes are going to be challenging.

    NM's DOTD:

For Librarian--I think the Blushing Bellini is probably closest to sunshine, but you might prefer one of the other options:

Hi ladies- I have officially made it to the weekend! Whew! Got lots to do but slowing down a bit this morning. The weather is nice today but tomorrow it will be rainy so today is a good day to get a few things done around the yard and garage. The west coast has more soaking rain again and it's coming this way.

NM- there is definitely a process of grieving and letting go. Every work situation I have been in has it's pros and cons, even if I feel ready to go. Usually I don't miss some of the management BS, politics, and other toxic stuff that goes on in every work place but often miss some of the cool people. As you say, you liked the work and the patients. My doctor sister retired yesterday from 40 years as a a practicing physician. She has been tired of the constant buy outs but will miss her patients. She did decide to continue PRN with them for the longer term. Anyways, broken orgs often will choose a revolving door vs. looking at root causes to improve their operations. Out with the old and in with the new girlfriend!

ChiSandy- I see you are on your trip and not totally sure where you are (behind on reading here) but glad you made it out safely and enjoy your time away!

Ill- I love that meme of you in the red wine glass! I really could have used one after this week but going swimming this afternoon and need to not be feeling slow from the wine for that. That being said, tonight is a whole different story as I have a bottle of Bogle Petite Syrah that needs finishing. How are you enjoying retirement and when do you move to your cabin in Western TX?

JCS- glad to hear you are done with this latest round of chemo and hope you can rest this weekend. Prosecco tastes like sunshine, I like that. I hear Punxatawny Phil did not see his shadow so early spring? We are having a real winter with El Ninjo out here in the west so I doubt we will have an early spring. But it feels like it this weekend, and will take it!

Got lots to do to catch up this weekend and hoping you are all having a good start to the day!

Jazzy, retirement is getting better now that I have a routine down. Each work day, I go to the gym and do weights, elliptical and cycling mostly, Silver Sneakers on Thursday and occasionally swimming. I also watch at least one murder mystery per day, I’ve gone through 3 seasons of Shetland, 19 seasons of midsomer murders, 7 seasons of Death in Paradise and now I’m on season 2 of Wallander.

Downsizing has stalled somewhat with the holidays but we still plan to relocate to the cabin late spring/early summer.

Today I’m doing my final pre-pack for a trip to Miami on Friday, then the on the blue cruise to The Bahamas. DH drives a tour bus, so it’s a work thing for him (early b-day gift for me!)

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Sunday Funday! The weather app is saying it's 2 degrees but feels like minus 12.I was just hanging out some clothes, my thermometer says 12 degrees, and it actually felt ok! Cold, but not bitter or painfully so. No wind, either, and that helps a lot. Sadie is outside sniffing around, looking for critters. Only 3 more days of working for the crazy Hospice office, and I am feeling such a sense of relief that I'm a little surprised.I guess the nonsense there was bothering me more than I realized, or wanted to admit.

Jazzy--I really will not miss the politics and management BS, as you call it. I will get to do Hospice care, not all nursing home patients get formal hospice care at the end of life, and that's a place I will be able to make a really big difference. And I will get a whole new collection of patients (I need to teach myself to say "residents" now) to take care of and care for and a new bunch of co-workers to get to know and support and take care of. I'll be just fine! Have a good weekend inside and out!

Illi--ah, the power of good habits and routines! I do better when I have a routine and was getting frustrated and bored at home on off days without one. I'm looking forward to the routine of going to work full time again, and will remember next time I go part time or (more likely) retire that I need to establish routines and habits that get me out of the house. Holidays seem to put the brakes on the decluttering process, doesn't it? Are you excited to move to the cabin? The cruise sounds wonderful, have a Pina Collatta for me! Happy early Birthday!

    NM's DOTD:

    The Habit Is Back

    2 oz aged rum

    .5 oz fresh lime juice

    3 dashes Angostura bitters

    Ginger beer

Add rum and lime to a rocks glass. Fill with crushed ice. Top with ginger beer and more crushed ice if needed, so the glass is packed. Dash bitters on top, and garnish with a mint sprig. The bitters will float, creating a halo effect.

Happy boring-est Super Bowl ever (at least at halftime). Bob & Gordy's main bets cancel each other out; Gordy went to the sports book yesterday and mad a bunch of little side bets. Maybe we'll have some money coming in. It's chilly & windy here in Vegas, so we're watching from our timeshare. Leftover Chinese food from last night, wraps from the condo sales center, popcorn & chips. Drinking coffee & cava (separately).

Last night the kids went to Rao's and liked it. We went to a new pan-Chinese place in the Palazzo called Mott 32 (tribute to the main drag in NYC's Chinatown).Above is what I started with, a drink called Forbidden Rose: rose water-infused Pisco brandy, litchi purée, vodka and egg white. Garnish is edible violets.

After that a cremant de Bourgogne rose brut nature.

We're going to see Lady Gaga after the game.

We can make it there when someone good comes along. This game is really boring. They should just have a kick off with the punters.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Monday Monkey day!Guess what happened last night?I got a call from Clinical Manager #1.Clinical Manager #4 called CM #1 and asked her to call me to tell me that she (CM#4) doesn't have any work for me this week. Apparently CM #4 called in sick from administrative call this last weekend, CM #1 covered the phone calls but CM #4 was still doing the scheduling for this coming week. And there is a big meeting this morning that they want as many staff as possible to attend, so everyone will be doing a full day of visits after starting late.Of all the days I could have been helpful, today was one. I am so glad to be getting out of there. Sadie certainly doesn't seem to mind sleeping in and not getting up to the alarm clock! I suppose she'll get used to that again, just like I will. Got another half inch of snow overnight, temps near freezing, but the sun is breaking out and it should get very pretty later today!

Chi--What a pretty drink! Could you taste the rosewater in the brandy? I think of brandy as being rather overwhelming to something as delicate as rosewater.

    Morning, Librarian!

Chi- That drink looked so pretty, and I bet Lady Gaga will be a great show.

illimae- I think having a routine is good, I would need it to keep things done. But not too rigid where I can't break it to do something fun. My husband when retired had a routine and he mostly stuck to it and would not vary from it.

NM - So glad you got the job. I hope that it gives you a lot more peace without having to work with CM#4.

So sorry for all of you facing such a hard winter. I will drink to warmer days ahead for all of you. :)

Could taste more of the litchi than the rose water. Pisco brandy doesn’t seem to have a very distinct flavor, unlike cognac. More like a grappa or eau de vie.

Lady Gaga’s show was fantastic. She has an extremely great voice and is an expert song interpreter and musician. Except for a few of her originals (“Paparazzi,” “Poker Face,” “Born This Way” and “Bad Romance”) which she sang while playing piano, she had the backing of a full jazz big band plus string section. Several members were longtime friends from her NY gigging days (pre-dance-pop). The rest of the songs are classics from the Great American Songbook, plus “La Vie En Rose.” This was only the second or third of these shows she’s done, and they seem to be selling out far more than her “Enigma” extravaganzas. And you could tell this type of music is her first love. She enjoyed interacting with the band and the few high-roller audience members who scored seats at cabaret tables at either ends of the stage. She was very emotional after each song, making one brief mention of “a lot of pain sometimes,” an allusion to the fibromyalgia from which she suffers and led to her choosing this residency over the rigors of touring. She mentioned that singing jazz with a big band in Vegas was a dream come true. I don’t doubt it.

Besides the cava I sipped during the game, DOTD was an Arnold Palmer at Shake Shack after the show (it was open, nearby, and had a table available). Tonight we have a 7pm reservation at Top of the World, the revolving restaurant atop the Stratosphere (about a half-mile walk north of here—but if it’s as windy & rainy as predicted, we’ll call a rideshare). If there’s a thunderstorm, watching the lightning from that high up (per our past experience at the 95th) could be surreally awesome. We were able to move tomorrow’s flight from 7 to 5pm, which gives us less time to have to kill after a 10am (no exceptions!) checkout. Probably do lunch at Mabel’s BBQ before heading back to pick up our bags and head for the airport

Happy Monday - I'm baa a c c ckkk! I finally feel like I will get through this pneumonia and bounce back to being me! I was seriously worried on the weekend.

Chi - Lady Gaga sounds amazing, Ihave always admired her ability, and glad her show was so enjoyable, beautiful drink!

NM - Congratulations on the job, so very exciting for you and Sadie too, who I am sure will enjoy the regularity of her days (and yours)! That wine looks tasty, I have not been imbibing with these darn meds, my tummy was having enough issues...

MemaSue - Send those spanx packing for good! What a nice treat for your hubby!

Illi - Enjoy your cruise, sounds great. Once you find your groove in retirement, it is difficult to comprehend how you managed to work (or that is what I discovered)

Jazzy - Enjoy your weekend and any down time! We are soooooo cold here, 27 below and colder with wind :(

misty - I hope your drink kicks in sooner than later for those of us experiencing the cold ;)

Hi goldie, JCS, cami and everyone else - so glad to be back! Cheers! Janice

Good Morning, Loungettes!Guess who called yesterday and gave me a full day's work today and tomorrow? Still shaking my head at the whole thing. Sadie was not impressed when the alarm went off this ayem, she gave me a totally disgusted look and then farted a VERY stinky fart! Gotta love the dog who lets me know exactly where I stand with her!

Misty--thanks, and I am looking forward to a really exciting job that won't totally wear me out!

Mema--sorry about the belly itchies. If the salt bath doesn't help try an oatmeal bath.Say Happy B-day to Hubby for me!Hope you find the pic, I'd love to see it!

Chi--I've eaten at the Top of the World, the view was fantastic! I can just imagine what a thunderstorm from there would be like to watch. That's one incredible view of the Strip and all of the valley.Glad the concert was enjoyable.

Janky--Glad you are on the mend! Don't overdo by doing too much too soon, give your body time to rebuild its reserves. I am looking forward to the regularity of thenew job as well as Sadie.

Gigi--reddish clear is good. The red would have come from a little blood from the needle going in, that's really common. Clear leans more toward irritation/inflammation and away from infection, and that is very good. But the cultures will tell the final story. I'm raising a glass of rose of Pinot Noir to you!

Crazy morning here. A bank was robbed about half a mile from us. Helicopter, lots of police, dogs and reverse 911 calls. Caught the female getaway driver, but the armed male was able to get away. Lots of woods around my house, so someone could hide for a while. Never a dull moment!

Starting to feel some of that bone pain from the Neulasta. Hope it goes away soon. I have a pretty high pain tolerance, but definitely do not like this.

Hi ladies- saw the cataract surgeon today for my consult. She said my cataracts are considered "moderate" but are progressing relatively quickly (she said they are a bit worse since my annual visit four months ago). She said they like to schedule it once it is interfering more with my daily life which is not the point I am at. But I will need to watch it and she suggested making another apt in 6 months but if I need to do it sooner, to call. She said it can be a two month window to get things scheduled.

My work is very busy right now and this project goes until early to Mid March (soon) but got a referral for something new that may also be starting soon. I have to submit a quote for it to the organization this week and think I will know relatively soon if i am going to be doing that work too? If I don't get the work, then I am going to book the surgeries between late March to late April to get both eye balls done. If I do get the work, then I will get through that and find some time to do it this summer.

I had bc in both breasts and now have cataracts in both eyes. My health issues come in pairs it seems Loopy

Jazzy, mine were considered “ripe" enough when the optometrist at LensCrafters couldn't visualize my retinas through the clouded lenses. Two months sounds about right: I saw my ophthalmologist in June 2016 to confirm ripeness, choose the lenses and make the surgery appts: September & November.

Checked my neighborhood blog to find out there's a hostage-barricade situation going on less than 2 miles away.

Oh, and I'm typing this from our suite in Vegas, where we have to stay an extra night because all flights into Midway & O'Hare for today have been cancelled due to an ice storm (“Lucian"). We were able to pay with HHonors points and not have to dip into our timeshare points stash. Might hit the spa...

Last night's DODT was the Bada Bing cocktail—very close to the “Celebration." Grey Goose Cerise Noir, Benedictine, lemon syrup, topped up with Chandon Brut Rose and a couple of Luxardo cherries.

Wine pairings with dinner (see the dinner thread for the food) were Louis Roederer Brut, Erath Pinot Noir (Wilammette Valley), a boutique Marlborough area (NZ) Sauv. Blanc and a Dr. Loosen Mosel Riesling Auslese. The latter was the only sour note: though it went well with Bob's sea salt creme brûlée, it clashed with the dark chocolate-covered spumoni (the chocolate gelato portion of which was quite dark & intense)—way too acidic and not sweet enough.

Turned out to be a windy but clear night—only one person was crazy enough to bungee-jump from the top of the tower. It was cool to see helicopters flying below us

    Chi- I appreciate your feedback.

I love that you saw Lady Gaga. My sister and I talked about meeting up to see her in April but she needs some time to slow down in the new post retirement world and I am too busy this spring with work. Good to hear the show is worth it. I think she has a great voice and a wonderful performance style! You are having fun!
