Looks like I missed a few posts yesterday. Sorry ladies. I'll be back later, just not sure when. Sick again! Glands hurt, head stuffy, fever, coughing, etc. My brother who I stayed with came down with something yesterday, mine was during the night.

Dealing with my mother yesterday, insisted that she was being held captive against her will and refusing to eat because they are poisoning her and my brothers should be bringing her food. The queen wants what she wants and she wants it right now!

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Hump Day!6 1/2 inches of new snow on my deck at 7 ayem. Coming down at about an inch an hour right now. Breezy but not as windy as I expected. Some sleet once in a while but again, not as bad as I expected. I'm still glad I'm not going anywhere today, though! Visibility at times is next to nothing. Sadie didn't seem to mind wading through the new snow this ayem.

Librarian--Your poor hubby! Imagine being told that all that pain was nothing and then hearing he needs a root canal. That's bad enough when you have a high pain tolerance, must be torture fora wimpy guy! I really shouldn't tease but I just couldn't help it. The insurance thing is so frustrating. Imagine if we tried to not pay a bill because of something so small as a missing middle initial. Hope your lunch was more fun than your morning!

LomLin--Ah, Xanax, how I remember the life and sanity saving effects of Xanax! I practically lived on the stuff during radiation and subsequent complications. I still keep a few on hand. I remember how fast it would work. BTW--quinine does not interact with Tamoxifen, but Quinidine does.Quinidine is used to treat irregular heartbeats and is prescription only. The quinine in tonic water is different. Unless you prefer the scotch and water, in which case that makes a great excuse! That drink does look tasty!

Goldie--I am getting things done! Yesterday's must do was lugging trash bags from the basement to the dumpster, which I did in spite of the ice in front of the dumpster.I almost fell a few times but saved myself! Good luck with the file transfers, that's always a fun process.

Chi--the chocolate egg cream sounds good!

Cammy--ooh, that Berry Good Vodka sounds tasty, too!

When the CBD, melatonin and an Indica microdose (2.5mg) aren't enough to get me to sleep, adding 1/4 mg. (half of a 1/2 mg. tab) of Xanax does the trick.

Last night I went to an event at Botanic Alternatives, the CBD store (not the MMJ dispensary) I like. They were hosting the bakers of the CBD brownies & cookies my health food store sells. The liquor store down the block was serving free cocktails, each spiked with 3 drops of CBD tincture: cranberry & vodka, passionfruit juice & bourbon (garnished with a raspberry), and blood orange "spiked seltzer" with an orange wedge. I tried the latterr two, and they were delicious. I also bought some more topical lotion, the aforementioned "enhanced" baked goods, and a bottle of 25mg CBD softgels so I can get my "sleep fix" straight instead of with all that added sugar from gummies or the baked goods. Because of that, I was given a fistful of raffle tickets; and I won one of two $400 gift baskets full of CBD stuff. (One of them is a disposable blood orange vape pen, but I think it's defective because it seemed covered with orange-scented oil; another is a CBD "bath bomb" but I have trouble getting up out of a bathtub w/o considerable help).

Had my monthly mani-pedi today, but I didn't indulge there, even though the salon sometimes offers a little wine. (Something about drinking before noon, unless it's at a champagne brunch, just doesn't "fit" me). I did have a little ginger-peach green tea, though. Tonight's DOTD was some premium Oolong tea with Cantonese we ordered out.

    Mornin' ladies,

Oh Kim more snow!!! Good thing ur home now. And ur getting a lot done. I figured about the quinine but I know ud step in and describe it better than I could.. Great having a special nurse with us. BTW u made the snow look beautiful in ur pic.

Lori u r home right. It sounds like ur still with ur brother. Anyway ur mom is still feisty so she's still going good. Which I know is good but when it's at this time <to me> it's still scary Well I know everything is, cuz I think of my cousin, yesterday she didn't even use the phone. Ugh this is all chit.

I admire how u gals can get ur computer set up. Remember when I told u my numbers for that gift card that Dan gave me. Well they sent me all this paperwork tofill out. Which I couldn;t open all their chit and make copies and send them. I was so mad. Then I membered Jodie and Joey, So Joey took all pics. and sent them to Jodie and sent all paperwork to Jodie, so she finished yesterday and got it all done and sent and now wait 90 days. Chit.

Sandy ur another one that's so busy, just be careful, there is a lot of ice under snow. Sandy I'm sorry I intrude so much about Gordy, but this seems so good I just like to hear how it's going and I want all good news.

My niece was over yesterday <she helped me with my shower> She stayed about 2 hrs. And just talked, I lubs when she comes, he stays right in the bathroom with me so we can still talk. The first time she came I asked her is seeing THIS would bother her cuz I would have overed up more, but she said, it's u auntie it won't bother me, She's so sweet. She's beenmarried to my nephew for over 30 yrs. and such a good wife, he doesn't deserve her. And I tell him. Well her middle son is getting married May 19th this year, so this is our family excitement. Her oldest DD is bi-polar so we've always had that in common. I told u my family is certified crazy.

Oh I think this is LomLin or JC but I've been on Xanax since 1988, then in the 90's I started Paxil which cut down my Xanax considerably. And now I'm always afraid the Drs. are going to pull it cuz they are going nuts with the drugs. Just like my morphine and codeine that's been a yr. and 1/2 now. I never take over the amount prescribed but still I get a little nervous when I go for meds to the Dr. I guess I'm an addict but I feel like it just takes major pain away and I can still function pretty good so I hope they leave me alone.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Thirsty Thursday! Today is Errand day, going to run all over town taking care of a bunch of things today. Feeling the need to get out of the house. Beautiful sunny day, still cold, but all above the donut and in double digits so not so bad. Was going to go visit Mom and Dick, but Mom's just getting over a cold and Dick is just coming down with it, so I'm going to visit by phone later. I don't want to be getting sick over the next couple of weeks--first week at the new job, then a week of teaching a test prep class. I can get sick later, and probably will, working in a nursing home, but that's life in the health care world!Sadie is so confused, every time I go and get dressed she heads for her crate, thinking I'm going out, then comes and looks at me like I have 3 heads when I don't leave and start working on a cleaning/decluttering project. She is SO helpful, making sure I look at everything twice by pulling things out of the garbage bags as I put them in! But she is teaching me to close the bags and toss them down the stairs as soon as they are full.

    Happy Valentine's Day!

Goldie--looks like we bumped into the pool!I hope your brothers are able to take some food to your Mom that she likes. Funny how paranoid people can get when they don't feel well. Sounds like you andyour brother picked up something from the same source, probably the nursing home. So easy to pick up germs there. Hope it blows over quickly.

Chi--I envy you going to that event. Here in Maine the powers that be have declared CBD a food additive that has not been cleared by the FDA and ordered all of it and any consumables with CBD added off the shelves. So just at the moment CBD and CBD infused or CBD added items can not be legally purchased in Maine. And now a local coffee roasting company, called Coffee By Design, or "CBD" for short is threatening all sorts of legal mayhem cuz some of the inspectors don't know the difference between coffee beans and CBDand have pulled the coffee off some of the store shelves! This is going to be a fun situation to watch! Hooray for winning a raffle basket!

Cammy--Yup, got almost another inch yesterday by the time it all got done. The big problem was the sleet on top of the snow on top of ice. Too many idiots won't slow down on the roads and end up having to get pulled out of ditches or flipped off their roofs somewhere. So good to have a nice visit with your niece, and congrats on the wedding news! As to the morphine and codeine, as long as you are taking it as prescribed and seeing your doc regularly you should be fine. The purpose of pain medication is to take enough pain away so someone can be functional.

    LOL At Farewell Sobriety!

    Love the DOTD!

    Just for comparison--

    Happy Thursday!

Root canal safely completed! Husband is now almost pain free and sleeping through the night. Just in time for me to start another three weeks of chemo. Hurrah for me! Planning a sautéed shrimp Valentine dinner tonight. Might sneak in a glass of white wine to help celebrate.

Going out to lunch with another group of women I used to work with. I crammed a bunch of lunch dates into my week off of chemo. This way I can lay low next week if the side effects get iffy. I have several books to read and a new series on Netflix.

Weather is supposed to turn chilly and rainy here. Winter in Columbia! Might be time to hunker down and enjoy doing little to nothing. Hope everyone has a Happy Valentines (or Galentines!) and a great weekend.

Cami, I am home. I got home Sunday
night. Glad you are getting your gift card settled, but another 90 days. Sounds
    a bit odd to me.

NM, love our morning swims. Smart not
to go to your moms if they are sick, especially starting a new job. I just know
things will go well. And so sweet of Sadie…but when isn’t she???

JCS, good luck with your next “cocktail”!

So my mom took a fall, late last
night or early this morning. Showing what she looks like. Second pic looks like
she is going to get a black, arm I’m sure looks worse than it is, and not quite
sure what is going on with her hand, if its split or what. What concerns me the
most is the head. Why wouldn’t they have taken her to the hospital??? She doesn’t
even remember falling. So I think she got cold and was looking for another
blanket, or she was still thinking they were poisoning her and such. Or…she
fell out of bed. Because she looks so horrible in the pictures, I wanted to
show one of how she used to look.

Oh, Goldie, your poor mom. My mother started falling and bruising herself on a pretty regular basis. She never could give a reason why she had fallen. Kept calling them “slips”. Does your mom live by herself? Hope everything gets figured out and she heals.

Lori, if your mom is in a nursing home she should not have been allowed out of bed unassisted—and her bed rails should have been up. I would demand answers as to what happened: some homes try to weasel out by saying the patient should have rung for an aide, but it sounds like your mom is not sufficiently compos mentis to be held responsible for her own carelessness (if indeed she were careless). Find out whether she had nonskid slippers or socks on, and how slick the floors are. If she has a prior falling history, there should have been a “fall risk" or autumn leaf posted next to her door. I hope you get answers and your mom gets relief.

Kim, Maine's lawmakers are full of it. Hemp-derived CBD is now legal Federally thanks to the Farm Act of 2018. The reason it hasn't been FDA-approved is that it is considered a dietary supplement—not a food, food additive or drug—and the FDA has no jurisdiction over supplements. Here are some more substances not FDA-approved: multivitamins, minerals (e.g., calcium, over-the-counter iron), herbals, melatonin—all of which are readily available and unregulated. I smell a class action suit in the making. Does Maine have a medical marijuana program? If so, get a doctor to certify you are a cancer patient (a qualifying condition in every MMJ state) and make an end run around the problem by getting your CBD from a state-licensed dispensary. But you can also go online—companies will ship CBD to all 50 states and there is nothing Maine can do about it. (The only valid point Maine makes is that in CBD-infused edibles, it might be considered an “additive,” but that’s a stretch). And if you visit NH or MA, you can buy it anywhere. (I bought it at the grocery store in the Jiminy Peak Resort in the Berkshires). Nobody is gonna stop you at the state line and confiscate it. (They might confiscate it at the border if you bring it in from Canada—but then again, what they’re looking for is marijuana and THC products).

We’re at the Oak Lawn Hilton for their Valentine’s Day package (Bob has to be at Christ Hospital first thing in the a.m. to read echocardiograms). Room came with strawberries and a bottle of meh-but-drinkable CA bulk-process bubbly (Yulupa). With dinner we had a Kendall-Jackson Reserve Pinot Noir. Waiting for the buzz to wear off so I can get a decent sleep w/o heartburn.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy TGIF Day! Yesterday turned out to be interesting. My drive hasn't been plowed since the last storm, my plow guy is sick. Just enough snow in the drive to not be able to get out yesterday. I kept putting off going out and shoveling some off the top so I can power through, now I'm going to have to do that today, probably while it's snowing again! That's what I get for being lazy, right? Sadie kept trying to get me to go out and shovel but I was ignoring her. Not a wise idea!

Librarian--so glad the hubby is pain free now! Having a bunch of lunch dates sounds like a blast, good for you!

Goldie--GASP!Doesn't your mom have Hospice services? They would have sent an RN over to do an evaluation or the nursing home medical director may have been in the building and did an evaluation. Is your Mom on steroids for her breathing? That will make bruising a lot worse. Hugs toyou and her and prayers for all.

    Jazzy--what a sweet pic!

Chi--Maine lawmakers truly are full of it. The class action suit is already in the making, from what I've read. Apparently the state decided to reclassify CBD oil as a food additive. This by the state that has had legalized recreational marijuana for almost 2 years but still can't come up with the rule/regs that will get the state the most in taxes so still not truly available.I'm betting the real reason is the fear that CBD, being already easily available, will undercut the potential profits from recreational marijuana. Or sheer stupidity.I don't currently use CBD or marijuana, I'm still looking at the research regarding cannabinoids and breast cancer and still haven't made up my mind about it.

    Friday Funday!

Here I was all excited about starting my third cycle of chemo, when they said “No go.” Seems this time my creatinine level was double what it should be. The nurses asked if I had been drinking water or had been having any diarrhea. Yes to water - no to diarrhea. I ended up having two bags of fluids and no chemo. I am supposed to rest this weekend and drink 64 oz of water daily. I will go back on Monday for another blood test to see if the count is better. I did break my rule and had two glasses of wine last night. Surely that did not cause dehydration! We also walked three miles late in the afternoon as it is supposed to rain here for several days. Maybe it was dealing with my DH root canal symptoms and problems that distracted me from drinking enough water. 😂😂😂😂 Anyway, not quite back on the chemo train. I do have a weekend trip to the mountains with girlfriends planned that I will now have to wear the Neulasta patch during, butthat is ok. Also will still have the PET scan in March to see if the chemo is working. I just enjoy sticking to plan and completing assignments. Gotta go fill the water glass. Drink some alcohol for me this weekend and have some fun!

NM, I had a Pina Colada for you! It wasn't in a fancy glass but it was excellent, especially with that extra shot on top!

Oh my, Ilona—what a trip you had, but you saved the best detail for last: Alan Parsons? “Beaujolais," “Eye in the Sky," “Proteus" (the soundtrack to the Bulls' double three-peat and still used today to introduce half the NBA teams: “aaand NOW, your Chicago Bulls starting lineup") Alan Parsons? One of my fave 80s artists, especially for his exquisite production values. Nice to know that fame and generosity can still go hand in hand! Welcome home, and thanks for sharing your great time with us!

Went to Cellars for dinner and to pick up the wines we ordered at the Viña Robles dinner. Had a Marques de Caceres brut cava and Liar’s Dice old vine Zin.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Saturday! Well, the Jeep is still stuck on the ice. Going to give it one more try in a bit and if I can't get it out after last night's rain and snow I'll have to give in a call for help. Hopefully the plow guy will be answering the phone and he can throw down some sand while he's here and add the fee to my tab. Gotta love winter in Maine! Sadie is thoroughly confused, I keep saying I'm going out and will be back in a few hours and coming back in after only an hour or so. She got back at me by getting her paws very wet and very cold right before jumping into bed with me last night! Brrrr!

    Morning, Muddling!

Librarian--Two bags of fluid is a lot, you must have been really dehydrated! It's vital to protect your kidneys during chemo, they are the organ that clears the chemo breakdown chemicals (dangerous in themselves) from your system and take as much of a beating as the liver does but doesn't always get the same attention. So keep up the good drinking!A couple glasses of wine isn't going to make that big a difference if you are drinking enough water.

    Cammy--YAHOO!!!

    Bring in the Weekend

    Ingredients:

    Gin: 50ml

    Triple sec: 10ml

    Martini Rosse: 15ml

    Paan: 1 full

    Sugar syrup: 5ml

    Lemon juice: 2.5ml

    Apple juice: 40ml

    Method

    - Muddle and then shake the ingredients together

    - Serve in a martini glass

    - Garnish with varq

FYI (cuz I didn't know and looked it up):

Ingredient of the Week: Silver Leaf, Varak, Vark, Varq, Varaq, Waraq, Varakh

If you've ever wondered what exactly is that gorgeous, glittering, glamorous metallic stuff garnishing many Indian sweets, mukhwas, or meetha paan it's called vark or chaandi ki vark. Chaandi means silver and vark comes from the Sanskrit varaka meaning to cloak. Genuine silver is beaten by hand into sheets barely two tenths of a micron in thickness to make vark. Symbolizing prestige, opulence as well as medical benefits in Ayurvedic and Unani practices, vark has been in use on the Asian subcontinent for centuries.

    image

The method for making vark has remained unchanged for centuries and is still a traditional industry in India. Tiny squares of silver are beaten between the bound pages of a booklet-like auzar with a special hammer called a hathoda. In the old days the pages of the auzar were made from ox intestine but nowadays mylar or specially treated paper are used for vegetarian reasons. It takes about three to four hours to beat the silver to the desired thinness. Special tongs are then used to place the vark between sheets of paper to be sold.

Good morning ladies- hoping everyone survived the week and wishing a nice three day weekend to any of you working and that have Monday off. Time goes so quickly and here we are in the middle of February already. We had a taste of spring yesterday after a storm pushed through the night before and it was up to 68 yesterday. It was that feeling in the air and the birds chirping that made me say "it's coming." I like the seasons and NM needs more snow for snow pack for our water supply and drought and we are getting more rain here and snow up top again. But daylight savings is three weeks away now (3/10) and coming into spring not long after. In a few more weeks, we will see our flowers trees start to bloom.

Another busy work week. The client site I am working at asked me to help with some more things and doing that so I am busy, busy. I did tell them I have some other work pending (the bid I put in last week) and did follow up with the IT director on that to find out if and when they will make a decision but no word back yet. I have something else pending too I discussed with another collaboration firm around Xmas and going to check in on that too.

Yesterday, I went to my bc yoga class for the first time in months! Been missing the class and the ladies. Love the teacher too and made it a priority to get there and hope to get there more this year. Today I am going to run some errands and get outside for some exercise as I think we will have another warm day to look forward to.

Goldie- I was sorry to see your mom fell and got so terribly hurt as a result. Are you back in AZ?

Cami- how is Leslie doing? Regarding Dara, I think she must still be busy with the new job. I have not seen her on FB either.

Ill- your trip sounded fantastic and please pass whatever is in that pineapple. Loved the backdrop of the beautiful boats and palm trees; tropical and alluring......

Chi- I saw Gordie has a FT job with benefits. Yay!

JCS- sorry you cannot do your chemo right now. I carry water around with me everywhere I go because of living in a dry place. I hope you get hydrated and are back to doing what you need to do soon.

NM- did you start the new job yet?

My blood work came back for the upcoming visits to the MO (next week) and to see my PCP on blood sugars. Everything looks mostly okay, but a couple questions for each on some things on the borderline of the high ranges. I was able to get a copy faxed to me to of my last genetics test last summer by the BS to take with as she continues to push me to get those done. She has always been cutting edge with her recommendations, I heard yesterday they are now recommending it more broadly to get this done. My last test had 83 genes. It has evolved way beyond the BRACA world.

Hope everyone has a nice weekend!

NM, funny about ignoring Sadie not being a good idea! LOVE that Snow Plow cocktail, desert in a mug! Oh my, cold wet paws in bed! Hope you can get Pearl out of hostage.

Yes, mom is on hospice. She just recently got an air mattress for the bed sores. Mom leans to the left and is often closer to the left edge of the bed. You can see in the first picture, how close she is the the edge. Mom is a large woman and I think what happened was the air shifted in the bed and wasn't able to support her on that left side and she rolled out of bed. Her room mate her, I spoke with her and asked when mom fell, was anyone else in the room, she said no. The DID DO a neuro check and range of motion, and determined she did not need to go to the hospital. Yes she is on steroids. Hospice nurse was there Thursday. So all is good and I'm at peace of mind.

Illona, so happy to see you so happy! What a trip! Continue to enjoy.

Cami, laffing at your cocktail the Leg Spreader! I guess Dara is done with us, she has even logged in to read since October 23rd.

Jazzy, yes I am home. Boy or boy, you are such a busy one! We haven't had the warm weather here, just wind. And possibilties of snow in the up coming week. Dara never has been a big FB poster. I do hope her new job is going well. I really don't think she will be back. Gosh, there are so many that have left.

I'm a tad miffed at my onc, but won't hold it against him. Also with Simon Med. Onc said when my scans came back he or PA would call. No call as of yet. I also sent release information to Simon Med to fax me over the results, nothing on that either. I also sent syringe and needles information, empty packages of them that I got from my oncs office, but they can no longer "give" to me because of partnering with Banner Health and Virginia G. Piper cancer center. You need a script for all of these, no script sent. We were supposed to leave this coming Friday for a 4 day weekend trip to Moab, which keeps getting canceled. This time is due to the weather. Lots of snow expected on our route there and in Moab as well.

Ok, I think I'm all caught up! Wishing everyone an enjoyable weekend. Oh, I got my first crop of my winter lettuce that I'm growing. I know lettuce is cheap to buy, but I like the fact that I grow my own and in the WINTER.
