how about drinking?

Got home last night--it was a fun convention, especially musically (though we had to leave for home too early for me to attend the "Fountain Pens: Steampunk meets modern technology"--pen collecting is my other hobby). Nothing alcoholic in the Consuite worth taking out my Invisalign to drink--and the pinot noir I ordered Fri. night with dinner at Bennigan's (the hotel's adjacent restaurant) was mediocre and came in a glass the size of a fishbowl. Did find orange-flavored Perrier in a truck stop en route home yesterday; and the local root beer I had with lunch at an Iowa City BBQ was delicious but a bit flat and too sweet. No alcohol last night. Going to a followup meeting & reception at the CBA later this aft., and taking the train to get there, so I might indulge in a little wine to go with the snacks.
I lost 90 min. of my life I'll never get back trying to load and play a CLE webinar for which I registered. Guess what the topic was? "Mindfulness and Stress Reduction for Attorneys!" I followed every requirement (OS, hardware, browser, internet connection) and still couldn't get the thing to load at first and then to play with each re-load. Had to install plug-in after plug-in (which was never mentioned among the hardware & software requirements), to no avail. And every "Help" link (phone number, e-mail, troubleshooting form) was fruitless. I figure they owe me my 1CLE credit for all the stress they INDUCED, of which I was excruciatingly "mindful." At least I have the bulls--t "materials" included on a separate webpage--fairly useless w/o the live program. I could have done all that with the meditation and breathing apps on my phone & watch. I wanted to attend the seminar, but it wasn't offered in-person: if it had been, I'd have been able to enjoy a nice lunch & shopping before my 4pm meeting in the same bldg. GRRRRR!!!!

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Twofer Tuesday! This busy month is flying right along. I love the sun getting up before I do, makes me feel like I have way more energy through the day.Sadie has been working hard supervising the neighborhood and is sleeping hard at night herself. Last night she must have gotten too warm on the bed cuz she got off, dumped over a basket full of clean clothes and made a bed out of them on the closet floor. That's where I found her when I got up!Now that load of clothes need serious defurring.
Librarian--wow, what a view! I can see where you could spend some serious time sitting on the porch with aglass of wine or coffee or tea or whatever and watching the show. Getting a second opinion might be a good way to setyour mind at ease about your treatment plan. Better a second opinion than living with the "what if" thoughts.
Chi--it's a pain in the butt when technology doesn't work. Sorry you missed the webinar.
Cammy--you really need to stop feeding that post-stealing-gremlin! He may look like a cute kitty but he's MEAN! I'm sure the post was totally hilarious, sorry I missed it! Poor kitty, looks so sad!

Jazzy, I don't think the foot problem is from bone mets, altho I can't be positive! I think it was the boots I was wearing and even tho I wasn't doing alot of walking, it was just the position of my foot in the boot. But the other one doesn't hurt! Who knows! The nursery we went to was Plants of the Southwest. And yes, helping out the little guy is good, that's us, the "little guy".
NM, what a chore to give Sadie a bath. Can you give her one outside with the garden hose, or is it too cold for that? No time for fun in Vegas. We spend all day, walking up and down isles looking at products, from 9-5. So come 5 o'clock, you just want something to eat and sit down and hit the bed!
JCS, those pictures are so beautiful! What a view. We have a nice a view from our home, different of course, but none the less beautiful.
Cami, do you post from a computer? If you right click, you will see "undo", click that, it may take a few times doing, but your post should reappear. Or, like I said before, do it in an email, then copy and paste it here. And we love you, whether floopy or not!
We are staying at the Westgate, forming the old Hilton. Room is quite hot, I don't think the AC is working, glad I brought a fan. Will call down to see what's going on. Well, time to get moving.
Cheers ma dears!0 -
Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Hump Day! The CPR teaching equipment arrived at work yesterday, It's a lot like Christmas in the office right now! I was mad at Mother Nature yesterday, it was lovely and sunny right up until time to leave work, then it started raining! Rained all the way home and while I was getting the studded tires off the car and doing some grocery shopping. Stopped raining at bedtime. Sigh. Nothing like coming home to a wet doggo, but Sadie was happily running around the yard in the rain when I got home.
Goldie--I do wash her outside in the summer, but it's not warm enough to do that quite yet. Also, when I wash her outside she runs off and rolls around as soon as we get done, and right now that would mean she rolls in the mud! Sounds like you don't have any trouble getting steps in with all that aisle walking.

Mornin' ladies,
Lori I'm sorry I'm not a big fan of Vegas <I got married there once> but walking around all that time, how the hell do u do that without all kinds of pain. I hope ur eating good and then resting as much as possible.
Kim this crazy weather is well crazy. Lots of rain , a little warm but not that warm and how do u stop a dog from chasing rabbits. This is horrible.I forget u always have to change ur tires, cuz we can't here. Our streets are so bad I don't know how much difference it would make. U always have the best DOTD'S and find the eact theme for anything.
JC those pics were beautiful, it looks like the top of the world where u were sitting. <anyone one get that>
Illi do u ever stop, wow I'm so glad u can go all these places.
Sandy ur another one, I think ur still on the tour....I hope ur having fun.
Lori if ur foot still hurts u should try what Jazzy suggested, it's just for foot pain, I won't give u any suggestions cu I'll just end up putting my foot in my mouth, but I did see it on line at CVS and Walgreens. Ur DD should be feeling pretty good now right.
Oh Leslie's PC saw she was going to see another Dr. Well he ended up telling her maybe this pain and stuff was all in her mind. She got mad but was speechless. So when we were talking she said exactly what I thought since she's bi=polar it's easy to say. Yea he's right , cancer, that huge whole < then they told her she can never have full use of her left arm again> now another operation in 2 weeks, plus other crap. I felt like calling him myself but she didn't want me too. He told her to see her head Dr. which she does and he said he was amazed at how well she has been doing, so am I but I see how on edge she is and I get a little wobbly about it. But so many wuoild be upset easily about all this.
The guy in the office is off today so I'm working til tomorrow at 9am, I don't know if I can do this anymore, it's so many calls and trying to space app't. I talked to Bob last nite and he told me he'd help me as much as I wanted and call him any time. I don't tell Dan cuz he thinks I can do all of this easily and I don't want him to get worried. Dan and I watched Game of Thrones for 3 hours the other nite. He tries so hard to spend time with me, I tell him not to really, he's so busy with 3 boys and works like a dog. But I do know I'm a space free zone for him LOL
Hello to everyone hoping mid=week ur feeling well and for many of u true spring. We're on a seesaw here and if I'm on 1 side it will stay the same. Just have to figure the good side.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Thirsty Thursday! It's Make Your Own Pizza day for lunch at work, so guess what I'm getting for lunch! Had a great evening with the Wednesday Women and Wine group yesterday. The waiter we had was just a hoot and a half and I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who left a bigger than average tip forhim. The Mac and Cheese I had was to die for. We branched out a little bit and met at a Draft Haus. More beer than anything else, of course, but some nice wines and even a few meads! I indulged in a Maine made Lavender Mead that was sooooo yummy.Sadie was not impressed by my late arrival home and after getting her Welcome home ear scratches and belly rubs she sat with her back to me and thumped her tail until I apologized! She is so funny sometimes!
Illi--5 Islands has a good reputation.Cabbage Island is another great place--starts with a ferry ride to the island, then a traditional clambake!
https://www.cabbageislandclambake.com/
Cammy Cat--that poor kitty just can't get a break! I have no idea how to stop a dog from chasing rabbits. Sight hounds will chase anything that moves, it's part of their nature and not easily changed. Leashes and fences are all I know to stop them! So sorry to hear Leslie is getting the run around from her docs. Telling someone something is all in their head is just cruel. It's certainly not helpful. I'm sure you are doing a good job with the phones, but I can see how it could be pretty hard work. I can imagine how restful it is for Dan to spend time with you!
Blood of the Dragon punch
Ingredients:
750ml Diplomático Reserva Exclusiva rum
450ml lemon juice
300ml rosemary & thyme simple syrup (to make, combine two parts white sugar to one part water, add one sprig of thyme, one sprig of rosemary and bring to a boil. Let stand until cool.)
150ml of honey
Method:
Combine all ingredients in a punch bowl with ice. Ladle into punch glasses. Garnish each glass with sprigs of rosemary and thyme.

NM, no trouble getting steps in for sure, just hard to do when your foot hurts! I figured it was too cold to bathe Sadie outside. I don't know what a "mead", but the lavendar sounds very yummy. Too funny about Sadie putting her back to you.
Cami, you are so funny. Getting married in Vegas, putting your foot in your mouth, etc.! I have no trouble eating, nor getting enough rest! I hope Les is leaving that asshole doctor...IDIOT! And what is this next surgery for? I'm sorry for all the phone calls and it's getting to you, can Leslie help with that? Your family sure loves you. I can't believe Dan just hangs out with you for 3 hours! I saw where Lucky is not only chasing the rabbits, but bringing them in the house. Maybe a muzzle for when he goes out? He will still chase, but won't be able to bring them in!
Came home a day early, show just isn't what it used to be, but I'm glad we got to leave early. The phones were ringing like crazy while we were gone and of course lots orders. So super busy today!

Mornin' ladies,
Ki, I don't know what a mead is either, I guess Lori and I aren't very savvy when it comes to drinking. But I like the name of the DOTD today. I'm glad u had a good timtho. And Sadie, she let's u give her the scratches and rubs, THEN she turns her back on u. She's so funny.
Lori I bet coming back u'd be busy but business is business so it all goes along. Kind of glad u came back early that sounded like a lot of walking for u. I know u really take care of ur'self but u are an over-doer just anyway, that's why I preach to u. Is ur foot better now that ur home???
oops I didn't realize the time, my niece will be here any time and I have to set up my shower. Oh this latest surgery she's having they can't figure out what is on her ovary the test she had was inconclusive so it might be benign or it might be cancer as the Dr. told her. I told Leslie it's probably all in her head. All these Drs. are full of chit.

Mead is wine made from fermenting honey (usually first diluted with water). Back in pre-medieval days it was always sweet (as was ALL wine). But nowadays, especially with people keeping bees and selling artisanal honey (do the bees know they're "artisans"), there has been a "craft mead" scene, with the stuff ranging from bone-dry (very long fermentation) to sweet, flavored & unflavored.
Been home since Sun. night, but dealing with the usual daily-life stuff--home maintenance, shopping, personal care appts., rehearsing/voice lessons, family crises, etc. Had a scary episode yesterday with my sis in VA calling me about chest pain--told her to call 911 and not try to drive herself to the ER. They were able to rule out heart attack & gallstones, and did an EGD (upper endoscopy). Diagnosis was severe reflux attack, but she didn't ask if it was a "differential" diagnosis (i.e., process of elimination) or if they actually saw some sort of inflammation in her esophagus or stomach. What was amazing was that from the time she hung up on me till they discharged her from the ER was less than 3 hrs.--including blood work, EKG, and EGD. VA Med. Ctr. certainly has its sh*t together.
Alas, no cool DOTD to report, as I haven't had any reason to drink anything other than water, seltzer or coffee. Bob is raving about "spiked seltzer," which has flavorings & alcohol but no sugar, but if I want a buzz (which I don't) I'm not about to blow 100 calories on anything other than a good wine or spirits. Alcohol has never "refreshed" me, not even an ice-cold beer, the way ice water or seltzer has. I'm really liking Bubly (black cherry or strawberry) and the LaCroix "Curate" line ("cerise/limon," aka cherry-lime) flavored but unsweetened zero-cal seltzers. I also occasionally throw a few drops of Sodastream's unsweetened lemon-lime or orange "flavor drops" into a glass of plain seltzer. There's a new brand out that uses actual lime juice, not "flavoring," "essence" or "extract." But I think I'm going to make salmon tonight, so perhaps going to Coravin a new bottle of rosé, Pinot Noir or Beaujolais...unless I don't feel like drinking anything alcoholic. I have some really nice non-alc. weissbier, but do I really need the calories & carbs?

NM, thanks so much for the tip! I reserved a spot for Cabbage Island 😀 Both places had great reviews but cabbage island with the ferry and beach dinning feels more like an event, not just lunch.
I’m all over the place doing serious bucket list stuff while I am stable and have the energy to do it.
Every two month brain MRI tomorrow, I’ll be drinking either way, hopefully in celebration not sorrow. Have a good evening ladies 😀🍷

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy TGIF day! This week has both seemed a bit long and flown by. Got a fair amount of prep work to do over the weekend for next week's class,Busy, busy, busy and loving it! Sadie is moping this morning cuz it's raining, again.
Goldie--Getting steps in on a sore foot would be a challenge!Mead is made just like wine, except that the sugar source is honey and not fruit. Mead is often flavored with more delicate flavorings like lavender as it doesn't have a really strong taste of its own.
Cammy Cat--I was Bob yesterday, needed LOTS and LOTS of coffee! Thank goodness the facility has a free Coffee Cart set up just inside the kitchen door that is free for all staff! Mead is wine that is made with honey instead of fruit. Not super well known, but I like it. I was surprised to see several served at a Draft Haus!We did have a good time. And yes, Sadie got her rubs and tickles BEFORE giving me the cold shoulder! Praying for Leslie!
Chi--I've wondered if the bees know they are making "artisanal" honey, too! Your sis's trip through the ER was amazingly quick! I like putting drops of essential oils in soda water for flavoring. I've got quite a selection now so I can mix and match and make up all kinds of flavors if I'm in the mood! It's a lot of fun.
Illi--You'll love Cabbage Island!I haven't been in a while, need to get some people together and go again.Good luck with the MRI.
Morning, Jazzy!
A slightly different DOTD recipe for today:
Homemade Mead: A Honey Mead Recipe
Yield 1 gallon
Many recipes you'll find for mead yield very large amounts, but I've scaled it back to one gallon. For beginners, this is much easier to handle.
Ingredients
- distilled or filtered water (find the best water filtration systems here)
- 2-3 pounds honey, local raw honey is best
- ⅕ - ½ package champagne yeast (find it at homebrew stores or online here)
Instructions
- Simmer ½ gallon water until warm.
- Add honey: 2 pounds for a dry mead or 3 pounds for a sweet mead. Stir until dissolved.
- Simmer (don't boil) for about 30 minutes, skimming off any scum that forms. Remove from heat and let cool to about 100°F and pour into a gallon glass bottle.
- Add any extra ingredients you may want. See below for ideas.
- When the temperature is below 90°F, add the yeast. One package will make 5 gallons of mead, so use between ⅕ of a package and ½ a package. I typically make two gallons at a time and divide the package between the two.
- Cap the bottle and shake well. Add more water to fill the bottle, making sure to leave 3-4 inches of headroom at the top. Take the top off and add an airlock. These are available at your local homebrew store or online here.
- Once the airlock is in place, set the bottle in a cool spot for about 6 weeks.
Notes
Within 12 to 24 hours, you'll notice bubbling and foaming in the top of the bottle. This is normal. If you add fruit or herbs, this may bubble into the airlock and get stuck. This is normal too, but you'll want to clean it out well and reset it. A clogged airlock could lead to an explosion.
After six weeks, check the airlock. It should have stopped bubbling, or the bubbling may have slowed to once every minute instead of every few seconds like it will do in the beginning. When the bubbling stops, it's time to bottle it.
Mead is sometimes called "honey-wine"When fruit is added to the water, honey and yeast, the result is called "melomel"
When herbs or spices are added, the result is called "metheglin"
When apple cider is added, the result is "cyser"
When grape juice is added, it's "pyment"

Cami, no my foot is not better, it still hurts. I'll give it another week. I would be so pissed if a doctor kept telling me "it was all in my head". How can they be so insensitive.
Sandy, so glad your sister is ok, that had to be so scary for her and everyone else. Thanks for the explanation of Mead.
Illimae, of course we will all be thinking of you today and praying for good scans. So glad you are feeling well and full filling your bucket list. What else is on it? How long do you have to wait for results. OMG, I hate scan time. I get so anxious.
NM, a busy week makes a fast week, at least in my opion. You just sound so much happier at this new job. We've had some moisture here for the last couple of days and rather cool at night, like 40. Just cray cray weather accross the country.
We were super busy yesterday, getting caught up with orders and phone calls. Hoping for an easier day today, I guess we are not going to town as usual.

Mornin' ladies,
Lori u and I are on the same thinking. First Kim, even tho busy, sounds like this job is great for her. and we must have miss the week about learning Mead wine. I've had goofy foot problems since I was in 4th grade. My point is it doesn't have to be something really serious so just wait if u want a few more days that's it. And Leslie is going thru so much crap cuz after this last test they're not sure what it is on her ovary except unusual. Oy vey
Illi <<<prayers for scans>>> I' think all of us go thru some kind of icky feeling when we have them. But don't rush ur bucket l;ist u have a ways to go yet.
Again Kim another DOTD with what on topic, how do u find these. Well one thing I know u really know how to use a computer especially with what u do. I never think of looking much up, I don't kn ow why Sadie hahaha.
Jazzy how was ur week. It went fast for me. Someone woke me up at 5am this morning.
Well I yelled at my sister again and explained the whole concept of a conversation One person talks and the other listens and visa versa. She never stops talking and talks over me. Of course we laughed, We should practice the old walky-talky thing and say over when done. oooh and of course we were talking about my crazy SIL She's called the office of the assisted living and told them to get all the porn out cuz that's all my brother watches, BTW there is no porn in the house. So they told her they weren't able to remove things from anyone. <cuz she's called before> So she called one of her sons and he went there and unplugged a lamp and assured her it was all gone. So now she;s happy that my brother can't see his porn anymore. . He's finally in rehab now and I think he doesn't even want to go home.
OK another call, we get more plumbing than anything else and a lot are big jobs, it's crazy. OK everyone have a good day and plan Sunday with a favorite cake. LOL

Happy Friday to all!
Went to see my Oncologist this morning. He apologized for not giving me more notice and info about the FoundationOne test they ran. It was mainly to see about the PDL-1 gene and immunotherapy, but no one explained to me it was a solid tumor test and would list any other genomic mutations. No one even told me the name of the company until I received a letter about a possible EOB from them. Anyway, the results were basically inconclusive. We may do a different test to see about the immunotherapy.
Good news is we will do one more round of chemo and then a PET scan in early June. If there is no tumor growth and only the one small nodule in the lung, he will strongly consider a lumpectomy and stereotactic body radiotherapy. I would still not be “cured”, but it would reduce the tumor burden and give me a short break from chemo. I really like the idea of doing something vs. systemic chemo maintenance. There is a chance it could help lengthen overall life expectancy.
Illimae- Hope you are safe and dry in Houston. My sister lives outside of Conroe and did not get a direct hit from the storm.
Cami - Your family sounds like a hoot. My sister and I talk over each other all the time.
Native - Love the DOTD! I do not have all the various liquors so cannot imitate. I did have a fancy drink at a restaurant the other night. It had champagne and was blue. Went down very well!
Wishing all a Happy Mother’s Day!
P.S. I gave the Oncologist several articles to read about different curative treatments for MBC. One ended up being written by hismentor from medical school! Also an article about the pitfalls of “Dr. Google”. I wanted him to understand I feel his pain, but do know how to use the Internet for research. He told me to keep researching!

Hi ladies- sorry I have been off the radar. Cray crazy busy week with trying to get this project scope nailed down. I wrangled them doctors and we got er done!
Not good news is that I may have a skin cancer in a not great place. I had a skin tag in the corner of my eye that I had my PCP look at during a visit in March when I was in for my blood sugar checks. I get skin tags but this one seemed to be in a weird place, but they do occur around the eyes. Well, it came off but then a month later, a bump formed in the corner of my eye that got pretty large and knew something was not right. I happened to be scheduled this week for my annual with the derm and she took one look at it and saw her face change and she said "that needs to come off." Said to be friable during the biopsy scrape, which is usually a sign, so they said. Anyways, I pretty much was expecting this news and was wanting a biopsy. When do we ever say we want a biopsy??? The numbing was not much fun, the soreness after not fun either. On the way home, my open sore started gushing blood. EEK!.
Anyways, given the local near they eye and the fact things can "move" more easily with tear ducts, sinuses, etc., we are getting on top of this and if I hear this is a skin cancer, will get the Moh's or other surgery scheduled asap. As a result, I am cancelling the visit to see my friend in Denver next week in to the following week, as I won't know before then what is going on. I have to reserve time off (especially on a new contract) for what I need to do and as I say these days, health first!
More to follow, and will try to write more this weekend.....

I wrote a long post earlier in the day, but somehow I lost it. I can't remember what I wrote before except that I did laugh out loud at cami's post about her sister and sil and brother. Cami your family is certainly lively!
Illimae - hoping your rads won't be too bad for you and won't interfere with your next adventure.
jcs- Glad you are getting some different options to choose from. I hope that the surgery will help.
Jazzy- sorry you are going through all of this so close to your eye, that is scary on its own even if it turns out not cancer.
I hope every one has a great weekend, and Goldie keep your feet up and rest them.

Mornin' ladies,
OK picture this an old brain <me> a nite with about 4 hrs sleep <me> no coffee yet >me and trying to read things I don't understand.
Illi I dont get it, if this is brighter that means it's about the same so u can just go one. And wow u really have done a lot the last few months. I love to hear that.
Now JC is this a new type of test and I hate the word inconclusive, cuz to me it's just a wasted test. I've never been cldear on anything thruput all these years.
Now Jazzy I understand u only cuzz I had that but not that close to the eye, so it didn't bother me, And of course it had a long name for the type of cancer, no such thing as just cancer on the cheek bone. It was a very fancy name. but jee that close to the eye I'm sorry I hope they take care of it quickly.
Sandy I saw that u pooped in before but of course I forgot. But ur home now. When do u take time just to do nothing.. Or is that something that is hard for u to do.
and anyone notice how we all tell Lori to rest nd she really doesn't. She pretty much does what she wants to do.
Tonite my ex-stepson <is that what I call him> is coming over with his wife and one of his sisters. Leslie has seen them but I am connected to him with FB for a while. He was one of the ones I really liked. And we had some good times and talks. I do hear that he's a good dad and husband, well he didn't take that from his Dad, I wish he was still alive just so I could tell him what an awful person he was. I simply can't forget. And that makes me feel bad. Anyway that's tonite..
Well I'll let u know and for anyone who celebrates Mother's day---Happy Mothers's Day..Just in case I con't get her in the morning and if I do, I'm not saying it again

Cami, LOL at your sister talking over you. My sweet DD is like that as well as one of my brothers. Glad the two of you can laff about it. Your poor brother, not even wanting to go home. Sure glad they got all that porn out of there...too funny. Ex step son? So you were married twice? Was this a husband before or after your girls. Just being nosey!
Illimae, that's fast on the results, just don't like them. Have you had brain rads before?
JCS, hoping you will be able to stop chemo, and I'm all in with lengthing life.
Jazzy, skin cancer on the eye. It does sound painful, hoping it is NOT cancer. One can hope, right?
No, I don't rest much. Pretty much in the mornings with my coffee and favorite breasties and then around 4 or 5 in the evening, until bedtime, which lately has been like 6! I can't believe that! But I'm up at 4 am or before. Haven't been able to get out for 2 days, too much rain and roads are very muddy.
