Goldie, have you been cleared for skin brushing? It's a lymphatic drainage self-care that is really easy to do and very low impact. Unless your doctor has already said they're worried about your lymph system and they don't want to overload it. It won't clear the swelling out completely, but it might relieve enough of the pressure to make moving more comfortable and give the lymph veins space to drain on their own. (((hugs)))

The leg is feeling somewhat better tonight, I can walk without a cane or crying!

Sunshine, it is VERY tight and red. Very tender as well.

Miriandra, I do know about the brushing, but hadn't thought of the effects it could have on lymph system. So maybe not a good idea. Cancer HAS spread to more lymph nodes. I do rub up towards the heart, not a lot, as it also hurts like heck.

Spent much of the day in bed and on Oxy. Went to bed at 4 in the afternoon, woke up at 9:30 pm. Oh well, I guess it doesn't much matter when I sleep or when I'm awake.

Thank you all for the love!

Sure glad I don't have to go to Phoenix this week. This is the snow forecast going across the rim. I would have had to cancel, or spend several days down there in a hotel!

Lori - I hope today is a better day than yesterday.

Last night wasn't a god night - my anxiety was high and I was shoving food in my mouth. Woke up in a fund because of this. Need to find a better strategy. One is not to keep things in the house. I had some spumoni ice cream in the house, that as been open for several weeks and of course its a seasonal ice cream and I ate what I normally eat in 4 serving - thought they are small. Also ate chewy candy and soy nuts. Doing my best today to get back on track.

We're going to see Argyle this afternoon. It's an action movie so I hope I like it. I know DH will. This is our 3rd movie in as many weeks. That's more than we sometimes see in 6 months.

DH walked this morning and said it was tricky - so I walked in the house. Don't want to fall. Hope after the movie, it will be better but then it will also be getting late as far as the sun setting.

We are done snow for this storm. But snow predicted for next weekend. As long as it doesn't interfere with our flight on the 14th, or my appointment on the 13th, I'm okay with it.

Goldie - I have treatments here with dry brushing. Supposed to help with lymph system. May help to move the fluid.

Hugs sister and hope the weather is okay for your trip. That storm in the west coast coming our way is loaded with moisture.

Karen - sending hugs your way. Anxiety is tough to deal with when it shows up 🙏

Several studies have determined that manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) does not contribute to metastasis. But it is contraindicated if you're running a fever or have congestive heart failure. So it should be ok for you, but absolutely check with your doc first.

Yes, the strokes should go toward the heart and toward the inward bending part of the next joint. I found a nice graphic that shows flow directions nicely. And it shouldn't hurt - it should be super light to just graze the skin. Believe it or not you can use a standard 3" paintbrush from the hardware store, and that will give you the pressure you need to open the lymph veins. I hope it helps. Edema is miserable.

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Monday Monkey Day! Well, it seems it's time to replace the old desktop computer. It's getting harder and harder to keep it running and connected to the internet and doing what I tell it to do in a reasonable amount of time. Fought with it all weekend, finally got internet connection back this ayem.

Goldie--going into my last week of work, it's feeling very odd. I'll check out the totes thing, that is a great idea, thank you! Glad you are feeling more energetic!

Karen--I hope the snow doesn't amount to too much trouble for you. The heavy wet stuff is a real pain in the anatomy! I feel sorry for your SIL, too. The hospital is no place to spend a birthday! Congrats on the 18 years. I wish you weren't dealing the MM. Hugs.

    Teka--LOL!!!

Jazzy--Glad to hear you had good appointments. That's always a good thing. I can't believe DST is coming up so soon. At least the change won't be so annoying this time as I won't have to change my schedule completely.

Minus--I will focus on being retired, I know I need the break from a work schedule. First project is to clean up the house and put it on the market, second is finding a place in NC, third is finding a place for Mom and getting her moved, by then I 'll be ready to do absolutely nothing for quite some time!

Goldie--Oh my goodness, that looks so uncomfortable!

    Illi, Sunshine--Good morning!

    Miriandra--good idea

    Goldie--{{{hugs}}}

Karen--sorry to hear about the bad night. Those nights are hard.

    Miriadra--great graphic!

Goldie, my heart goes out to you…I can't imagine the pain, never mind the shock of seeing the difference between legs.

WOW, phoenix temps look gorgeous. Too bad it gets so hot in summer. My neighbors are making me seriously think about moving.

We went to Seattle for DH's surgical consult. I could not stop crying. I wonder if he would be better off just letting this play out and see what happens. We don't know what to do…will the surgery kill him? will the recovery kill any quality of life? will not doing it speed his disease course? ugh. Sick to my stomach. The monthly Prolia shots really did a number on his jaw. I can't stop weeping and feeling helpless. Depending on how much jaw bone has to be removed (and possibly teeth) if there cannot be healing, not sure if denture bottoms would even be possible. I'm just sick about this.

    Wally - sending you hugs.

Lori - how are you doing?

I had labs drawn this morning for Hematologist appointment next week. Anxiously awaiting for them to be posted in my patient portal.

Tired today - took a nap this morning. So glad that I didn't go back to work yesterday. Today is only 3 weeks post surgery. I'm glad to have the extra time. I really haven't done much since surgery - didn't expect to do much except maybe read, but I haven' really done much reading. At least, I'm walking, though at a slower pace.

Thankfully, my SIL was discharged today. Not sure that he is all the way healed but he's at home.

The weather is in the 50s but little sun so it does't feel warm Snow again on Saturday.

Tomorrow having a hearing evaluation and having my HA adjusted and cleaned. Feel like I'm not hearing as well. If someone is behind me or in front of me, I miss most of what they are saying.

Well, it looks like yesterday's post didn't go through, I must have not hit the post button again. Didn't notice before I deleted yesterday's post and started todays.

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Hump Day! I had an interesting time trying to get home from work last night. Driving down my road and come up on a roadblock a few drives before mine. Get turned around and shooed away without any further info. So I go around and get on my road from the other end, and literally within sight of my house, another roadblock! Tons of vehicles with lights flashing, a drone circling overhead, The deputy on this side was a bit more forthcoming, saying the road was closed while they executed a search warrant. For half an hour I sit and watch the flashing lights, within sight of my house, which the deputy said wasn't involved, then watch the drone land, and and some of the cars turn off lights and leave, and then an armored truck and mobile evidence processing van leave, then cars move up past my driveway, and I finally get home. It takes another hour or so before all the blue lights go off. My neighbor across the street messaged me asking if the road was open yet, I was able to tell her she could get home from one direction. She could tell me that there was a firearm involved incident nearby earlier in the afternoon. I'm so curious as to exactly what happened and exactly where it happened, not to mention a bit nervous. Mom is going to have a clutch of kittens if/when she finds out about this. Just waiting to see if it's going to be on the news this morning.

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Thirsty Thursday! The search
warrant execution event remains pretty mysterious. The official statement only
says no threat to the public, reports of gunshots were in error as no gunfire
happened, several people detained, no one arrested. I still haven't been able
to figure out exactly which place was the focus, although I have a pretty good
idea. I supposed I’ll never know for sure what was going on. It's keeping my
    curiosity bump active!

WallyCat, that 10 day forecast I posted was not for Phoenix, I don't thing they EVER get that! It was for going across the rim, part of my travel to Phoenix. Your poor DH, I'm so sorry. And throw that on top of what YOU have to deal with. I can relate tho, from when my DH had ALS. I always ask, and not just in medical issues, but to the doctor or whom ever, what choice would you make if it were you. Or if it were you spouse, child, parent, etc. Wishing you both all the best. HUGGLES from me.

NM, I HATE when I have to get a new computer! OH MY, that incident near your home is quite scary. Did you know the people there? Glad all is ok.

Karen, glad your SIL is back home.

Well, I sent pictures of my leg to cardiologist, they told me I should go to ER. Well, as you all know, I WILL NOT go to the hospital here where I live. Big snow storm coming in, so I pack up my suitcase and head down to Phoenix. Going across the rim, it was just starting to get bad, but I made it, no issues. ER was busy, so I had a bit of wait. I get in, they call for US. That is done, and a bit later they come in and tell me there are no blood clots and we are sending you home. WHAT? What am I supposed to do? They tell me to follow up with my doctor! It's 10:00pm, so no going home. I sit in the parking lot, trying to find a hotel. Most are booked as they have the Barrett/Jackson car show going on and some big golf thing. I finally found one for almost $300 a night! So after that, I send pictures to my portal and call one of the nurses at the cancer center. Long story short, MO says it looks like cellulitus and orders me some AB. I'm supposed to have an US next week with cardio, so going to call and see if I need to cancel, since they did one in the hospital. Drive home was the same going across the rim, it was blizzard like conditions and snow on the road, but easy going if you're not an idiot. There was one person that was doing '35, I'm like DUDE, it's not THAT bad! I just did the speed limit and kept my distance and eye on on coming traffic for idiots. Visibility was bad too. Back down the mountain come Monday, for Tuesday's chemo and nephrostomy tubes replaced on Wednesday. They tell me I need a driver, so I have called a friend to pick me up, just so they can drive me to my car in the parking lot!

goldie… Well, crap! Seriously??? I'm so sorry it was such a fiasco getting your leg looked at. What a pain (no pun intended) and how unhelpful. What the hell are you supposed to do??? I love the "follow up with your PCP" comment. Sheesh! (Can you tell I'm a bit miffed at how you were treated?)

And don't you just love people who drive 35 when it's safe to be going 50? BTW, DH and I always call people "Dude". Male/female—it doesn't matter.

    I hope today is a better day…

    Carol

Goldie, you sound like an intrepid driver! The conditions you describe would give me a nervous breakdown. Yay for no blood clots!

I had a chest MRI this afternoon to check the condition of my implants which will be 15 years old in July. If they're ruptured I have to decide whether to have them removed and replaced or just removed. Not an easy decision. It never occurred to me in 2009 that I would be facing this decision.

  • wallycat
    wallycat Member Posts: 1,422

I'm having a cheap Trader Joe's port after nacho dinner tonight.

Goldie…yow, you are such an amazing powerhouse. I want some of your inner strength! I can easily drive in snow and rain (decades of WI living) but hate driving, period. So glad no clots.

Carole, I hope you can kick the can down the road and there are no ruptures or compromise of the implants. I did think about all of that. My main reason for going flat and doing the BMX was to avoid scans. Medical crap sends me through the roof. Lumpectomy was recommended but I'll be starting year 18 and could not imagine having 2 scans/year (mammo/mri). Report back.

  • miriandra
    miriandra Member Posts: 2,211

Glad you're safe and sound at home, Goldie. It sucks you had such a run around.

BTW, cellulitis is a contraindication for skin brushing and manual lymphatic drainage. MLD is very helpful for preventing cellulitis by supporting the lymph system; but once a systemic infection has set in, you don't want to spread it further.

  • karen1956
    karen1956 Member Posts: 4,623

Lori - I'm on of those drivers that would annoy you - I tend to go SLOW in bad conditions. Sorry to hear that you have cellulitis. I hope the antibiotics kick in quickly. And hope you aren't in too much pain.

Carole - I always knew that there was a possibility that I would have to have my implants replaced or go flat. You've got me thinking that maybe I need to have an MRI. I've not have any scans of the implants since these were placed. I don't want to go looking for trouble - or maybe not doing anything is looking for trouble. Like you, I debate whether I would replace them. I like the way I look in clothes so that would be a reason to replace them if needed, but I don't want to have to deal any future surgeries. I'll see what my oncologist says in April.

Kim - how scary the situation by your house. Too bad law enforcement is keeping everyone in the dark.

Sandy - hope all is okay with you.

I had my HA adjusted this afternoon and a new hearing evaluation. My hearing really didn't change much - but my word recognition in my right ear was zero - I didn't get any words correct. I'm not surprised, but it was a little better 1.5 years ago. There is a significant difference between my right and my left ears. I've had a hearing loss in my right ear since I was a little girl or possibly since birth (I was a preemie) but it has gotten worse over the years. I believe that chemo impacted my hearing. I had an MRI of my ears/head about 15 months ago and nothing was concerning.

I got all my labs back to today. Everything is more or less stable. I was really stressed this time, especially for the MM. I see the Hematologist on Tuesday for my 3 month check up. I'll wait till the appointment for confirmation. Hematologist office called today to see if I followed up on seeing the endocrinologist. I told them yes, and that I had the parathyroidectomy. They want to get the report prior to my appointment on Tuesday. It's sad that doctors don't get all the records and that the patient is the one who has to take care of making sure the doctor gets the reports/labs that other doctors do.

I have labs the end of the month for my Nephrologist and he will be checking my PTH as well as kidney panel.

I see the endocrinologist in 3 weeks. Wonder how often she'll see me after this or if she will.

Snow is in the forecast again for this week-end, Friday night into Saturday.

Karen…YAY, stable. I do my preventive labs end of april/beginning of may, and they include the MGUS crap. Stable is great!

I had to do some math in my head because how can 2009 be 15 years ago??? Wasn’t that like just last year? Sheesh!

  • goldie0827
    goldie0827 Member Posts: 6,835

Sunshine, I too was quite miffed. Ok, so there are no blood clots, but CLEARLY there is something wrong! And you're just gonna send me home? LOL "I had to do some math in my head because how can 2009 be 15 years ago??? Wasn’t that like just last year? Sheesh!" I agree, where does time go? When they say it flies, they mean it!

Carol, I'm from MI., so I have driven in way worse conditions! BTW, is your name Carol, or Carole? Just curious. Hoping for all good news on the MRI and hoping you don't even have to make that decision.

WallyCat, I have always liked driving, doesn't bother me a bit. I think my inner strength, if that's what it is, keeps me going. I keep my glass half full, not sure with what, but not half empty!

Mirandra thank you, that is good to know. However, I can't figure out what MLD is?

Karen, I can be one of those pokey ones on the road as well, IF it's bad enough. But like I said, I was doing the speed limit with no problems. Most folks here are scared to death to drive in the rain or snow. Glad everything appears to be "stable". I try to keep all my doctors within Honor Health, that way they can just go into my portal for information. But I know this is not always possible.

I'm up due to having to take Anti B! Having some coffee and then I'll go back to bed, or just sleep on the couch.

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy TGIF Day! I've got to admit I'm looking forward to the warmer temps this weekend, even if they are saying it won't be as sunny as they first predicted.

Goldie--getting a new computer isn't so bad for me, I use Carbonite as a back up service and can download from there and have my new computer almost exactly like my old one in a matter of an hour or so. Although I am thinking I will not do that this time, as I will have time to do the set up manually and it will give me a good chance to get rid of some very old and no longer needed files and apps and such. A lot of what is on my desktop is work related research and reference material that it's time to get rid of. I do not know the people that were likely involved in the search warrant. I'm pretty sure I have figured out what place it was and I've never met the people there. Still trying to find out more details, being the nosey neighbor that I am, but no luck so far. All that hassle just to get sent home again? Arrgghhh! Laughing at the plan to have a friend pick you up and drive you to your car! What the hospital doesn't know won't hurt them, right?

Morning, Sunshine! Here's hoping the implants aren't ruptured. Who'd've thunk you'd have to be thinking about stuff like this 15 years down the road?

Wally--I eventually had the unaffected breast removed for the same reason--yearly scans and rescans due to scar tissue from a prior biopsy was not something I could live with. Talk about constant reminders and having to live in fear of tissue turning malignant. Not a way to live.

    Morning, Miriandra!

Karen--It's standard around here for law enforcement to be pretty sparing with information. The details usually come out later through the news if there is further legal action. One of the things the Electronic Medical Records systems is supposed to help with is the dissemination of reports and information to ALL a patient's medical caregivers, but that part rarely works well, especially if all the caregivers are not in the same network. We really need a central medical record system, but since the main function of those systems is billing, that will never happen. Hooray for stable labs!
