My name is Carolyn. Carole Halston is a pseudonym. I wrote romance novels for Silhouette Books under that name. You can Google me. LOL. A previous life.

Lori and Kim - some of my doctors are in the same medical system, but unless they know a procedure is being done or labs were drawn they are not likely to check the portal. My surgeon is in the same office building as my Nephrologist. My Endocrinologist and surgeon work at different hospitals but the hospitals are part of the same system. Nephrologist, Endocrinologist and surgeon all use the same portal system. I think my PCP is the only one not part of the same system. My cancer center is the largest in the state but it has their own patient portal. All doctors write notes up after visits and it would be so easy to send it to every doctor that the patient sees, but some don't do that - they only send to referring doctor and pcp.

Some of us just have way too many doctors!! I was talking to DH about endocrinologist and wondering if she would continue to see me since I've had the surgery and CA and PTH should be fine. Then I realized that yup, she will see me for years due to the osteoporosis. I have 2 years left on the Zometa through Hematologist and Oncologist and then Endocrinologist will take over the care of the osteoporosis.

Carole - I'm going to have to look you up - you have my curiosity.

Kim - the big day is getting closer. Work days are only a handful.

Snow is moving in today. Another Friday night and Saturday with cold, wet snow.

    Have a great Friday.

MLD is Manual Lymphatic Drainage. It's the blanket term for skin brushing, lymph massage, and a few other techniques that strive to do the same thing. The lymph system has only recently gotten a lot of attention. Doctors knew it existed, of course, but there wasn't a lot of research into what it did beyond the basics. Now lymph is getting a lot of exciting research, and we're learning more and more about what it does in the body and how to keep it healthy.

The MRI report showed no disease (Good!) and a ruptured right implant (Not Good). Now I have to learn whether the implant has to be removed for health reasons. I didn't know it was ruptured and would have continued life as usual if I hadn't had Ultrasound and then MRI.

NM, waiting for the next chapter on neighborhood crime. This is like a real life mystery novel.

Goldie, hope you are doing better.

Karen, you seem to be stable and in a good place mentally.

    Greetings to all.

NM, having someone pick me up and drive me to my car IS funny, but I want to go home afterwards, and get there before dark. If I were to be too loopy to drive, I wouldn't. Can't be stupid. I've never been put out for this procedure, not even the twilight stuff. Just something to kind of calm you.

Carolyn, the romance novelist! Do you still write, but perhaps don't publish? Sorry about the implant. Maybe it's happy where it's at and won't have to be removed. I hope you find out soon.

Karen, too many doctors...isn't that the truth? You will be leaving soon, won't you? To see DD1.

Mirandra thank you for the explanation. So, I guess brushing is out for now.

No changes in my leg. Dang, it hurts! It just feels like it's going to explode. It's so tight and burns sometimes. I will be seeing my MO Tuesday during chemo. I have a feeling he will put me in the hospital for IV anti b's. But it will have to be after I have my kidney tubes are changed, which is Wednesday morning appt. It just never ends for me, so I shall just keep pluggin along the best I can....OY VEY!

    Jazzy, wow on that flower…gorgeous!!

Goldie, so sorry about your leg still giving you issues.

Carole, SO sorry on the rupture. Not sure if they can leave it in once they know it is ruptured…but who knows.

We are heading to seattle tomorrow and staying till Wed morning, possibly longer. DH will have the massive surgery on Monday morning. There's a shuttle to take us to the surgical place, so one less thing to try to find. I had plans to shop and stock up and pack and do laundry, but the thermostat on our heat pump gave out, AGAIN. A crew came out and spent from 10am till after 2:30, under the crawl space, drilling holes in the wall, trying to find a "bad" wire and replace it. UGH…always happens when you least need distractions/irritation like this.

Jazzy, your Amarillis is beautiful. I had one when I lived in MI. Even saved it and it bloomed again the following year. Don't remember if I got beyond that!

Oh Wally, sending out prayers, and all good juju. Not only for your DH, but you as well. Glad you at least have a ride to the surgical place. Do you know what all DH's surgery will entail? Bummer with the thermostat. My DH always said "always something!"

I hope everyone and their loved ones going through major medical issues make it through smoothly and strong. Hugs to you all!

I have some good news to share at last! After a year and a half, and one week away from our NLRB formal hearing, my former employer settled against our complaint. He will have to read a statement that he had wrongfully terminated me and two other therapists and had illegally closed the studio I used to work for. He will also be required to post NLRB posters in all the studios he still owns stating what employers are not allowed to discipline employees for. Plus, he will be required to make payments totaling over $144K to the various wronged parties. He was able to get a postponement of 90 days, as he claimed he didn't have that much in liquidity. Even if he tries to skip country, we've been reassured that the NLRB can seize assets to ensure the penalties are paid. So I'm looking forward to May!

Happy Funday Sunday friends (and Superbowl Sunday too):

Hoping everyone is doing okay this weekend. We got a nice snow storm yesterday morning that left about four inches in my part of the city. I think the mountains got a lot more. All good for our drought-striken high desert climate. We usually get a storm a week (think we had two this week) but it's usually rain here, snow higher up. I like winter here, we get a bit of snow here but nothing like other places get. I grew up back in the northeast and don't miss the winters there like some of you have. By noon the storm was moving through and within a few hours, sun was out and things were melting/sublimating. Most of it was gone before the end of daylight, but my back yard had about an inch remaining that is mostly gone today. Sunny again but cold today but should be warming up. We are starting to feel the back and forth here in February with warmer days and then snaps of winter. Almost half way through Feb now and a month to daylight savings, whoo hoo!

I am in the process of updating my home office and had to pick up a new monitor yesterday, which I was able to do but then went to the grocery store and oh was that something else. The place was mobbed like it is before holidays like Thanksgiving, Xmas, Easter and no carts or baskets anywhere. I grabbed few things I could fit in my arms and did a quick check out and got outta there. Wit Football being such a big thing in the US and today's Superbowl, along with many delayed getting out for their party supplies with the storm, I knew it would be bad. I am not a football person and will be swimming this afternoon and watching some of my favorite TV shows tonight (anyone into Season 4 of True Detective on HBO?) I did buy some layered dip and blue corn chips though because well, I do like the snacks!

NM- I have been tracking your count down to retirement and you are less than two weeks away. When is your official last day? Then you will be on to the next chapter to get your house ready to sell and get you and your mom moved to NC. Hopefully you can take some trips down there to start scoping things out for where you want to live, etc. I know it won't be a small job, I have moved interstate a couple times and it's a lot of work. You will for sure enjoy the milder winters in the area you are moving to.

Goldie- thinking of you sister and hope you are doing okay after the storm. I heard Flagstaff to the west of you had three days of snow and the most snow in a short period since the late 1800s. I am concerned for your swollen leg and hope you can get some help on Tuesday. Praying for some better help this week for you sister.

Sunshine- I like that note, hugs or a bottle of Merlot…..

Carole- one of my friends had a mastectomy and implant and found out one of hers was leaking. She was trying to figure out what to do as it was the on the inner side vs. the outer, but the surgeon was saying she had to have drains again etc. I am not sure what she ended up doing, we have talked since she found that out but never heard she did anything about it. My sister was also told she would have to have one of hers replaced too.

It's very cool you wrote romance novels, I read everything by Victoria Holt when I was a teen!

Miranda- I am glad you got favorable results on your complaint about the wrongful termination suit. I have been layed off twice in the past (both felt like wrongful terminations as well), and both times from corporations that got "greedy". I got severance/cash on the way both times but after my time in self employment (which I loved the best), I chose this gov type job I have now to have a better chance of finishing out my working years on my terms. I hope the payout comes easily and make your life a bit easier too.

Teka, ChiSandy, Wallycat, and many others, hope you are well. I was only able to scroll back so far without loosing this post.

I need to get back to my home activities and to the pool for an afternoon swim. Wishing you all a good game if you are rooting for anyone, a good Valentines Day if you celebrate, and don't forget it's Mardi Gras and Carnival starting up too if you celebrate any of that too.

Have a good week friends and glad you enjoyed the amaryllis too. She's a beauty….

I've had no problems logging on

I see my Hematologist tomorrow morning. . He ran some labs that I have not seen before specific to the MM and I'm not sure what they mean, but most labs are more or less stable - at least I think. I've been really stressed about the labs since they were drawn and the appointment.

The person who schedules the float team texted me today to see how I'm doing an if i was coming back next week or taking more time. She wanted to be sure that i'm doing okay. Other than being tired, I'm okay. I got up at 6:15 this morning and fell asleep for an hour at 10.

Starting after spring break I will be covering a maternity leave at a MS/HS. I've been spoiled with short commutes this year but this is 25 minutes an the hours are 8-4 or 8:15 to 4:15. I don't like these hours. I much preferred 7-3. When I go back next week, I'll be (hopefully) working on special projects.

Wednesday morning we leave to see our granddaughter and er parents, We get back in the morning on President's DAy. Then I have the 20th to recuperate and I go back on the 21st. I'll have been off 5 weeks.

Miriandra, congrats on the work front. Glad that is finally settled for you.

Sunshine, thanks for the hugs and wine!

Jazzy, pretty much same weather for me. I am not a football fan either, in fact, not a fan of any sport. Flagstaff got like 3' of snow. But like you, we need the moisture. I'm more than happy to see it in someone else's backyard though!

Teka, I totally agree with you, re. my leg. I was shocked when they said they were releasing me.

Karen, sounds like things are ok, with your labs and all. I can't believe it's been almost 5 weeks already, seems like only 1! Safe travels, and enjoy.

NM, I know I mentioned the totes to you for moving. I hope you were able to find some on sale. Another thing I did, was go to a U-haul rental place, not only do they sell boxes, but they keep boxes that others have used and give them away.

Well, I was supposed to have chemo today and nephrostomy tubes exchanged tomorrow. Instead, I'm headed back to the ER, per my oncologist. He said chemo can wait and they should be able to exchange the tubes. Fingers crossed. He wants me on IV anti b's. I'm really get sick of being in the hospital!

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Twofer Tuesday! Got an early start at work yesterday, attending the death of a patient I've been taking care of from the beginning of their time with us. So I did get to see my last case through from beginning to end. I was rather selfishly hoping it would happen this way. So now I'm in my last week of work and getting impatient for it to be over. I am so ready to be done with getting up to the alarm and all the office politics crap. 6 days and counting!

In my rush to get out the door early yesterday ayem, I didn't secure Zoe's crate door completely. So, she got loose during the day. No big deal, usually, some mess to clean up when I get home, usually. Not yesterday. When I got home she was bouncing off the walls, almost literally! Spinning around in circles faster than usual, running around the yard chasing Colt with particular enthusiasm. But when she stopped running and spinning, she was stumbling and wobbling all over the place. At first I thought she was having a stroke and was getting ready to take her to the emergency vet when I noticed the remnants of a bag of gummies. Gummies with THC that I bought to find out what all the marijuana fuss is about. Some web research and a call to the vet to verify my dog was stoned. She did get sick once, but then pretty much slept all afternoon and evening and slept really well last night, and seems fine this ayem. I will certainly be making sure her crate is secured when I leave for work this ayem!

    Carole--a writer! Cool!

Karen--it frustrates me to no end to know that the state of technology is capable of automatically notifying all of a patient's docs when a test or procedure or note is entered into the system but healthcare won't pay for the upgrades to protect profits. There is such a thing as too many doctors. It can become a full time job just making sure everyone gets all the info!

Carole--no disease is good. Ruptured implant not so good.

Goldie--I remember Mom meeting me in the parking lot of my office so I could drive her to a dermatology appointment and then drive her back to her car so she could drive herself to the store and then home. Sometimes I think they get too carried away with the need-a-driver thing. I'm sorry your leg is hurting, and I hope you get relief quickly. You do keep plugging along, though, don't you?

Jazzy--BEAUTIFUL flower! Great snow pic, too!

Miriandra--CONGRATULATIONS! He must have realized how much more he could have been fined and punished for what he did. Good for you and the NLRB!

    Morning, Sunshine!

Jazzy--My last working day is Feb 19th, next Monday. I expect it will amount to turning in all my gear and supplies and then will greatly enjoy taking all the work apps off my phone and undoing the extra security locks on it as well. My brother and his wife are going to help me find a place near them. I'm looking at listings on line, they drive by and check out the neighborhood and report back to me what they see and hear. I hope to be able to narrow down the possibilities this way and be able to see a bunch of places in one trip. But we'll see how it works out. I've been following the temps and weather there, and really like what I've been seeing. Much better than Maine winters!

    Morning, Teka!

Karen--glad to hear you are getting back on your feet. Enjoy your visit with the granddaughter and family!

Loir - sorry that you are hospital again, but hopefully the IV antibiotics will do the trick. My brother ends up in the hospital at least once per winter for IV antibiotics after oral antibiotics don't work. Hope your stay is short. Hugs my friend.

Hematologist appointment is in 2.5 hours. Just want it over and know for sure my status.

People on the east coast - stay safe. Hope you are not being impacted by the snow storm hitting NYC and CT.

I've had a few issues logging on using my PC but not my phone. Weird…

goldie, I'm sorry you're headed back to the hospital. What a pain when you'd rather be snug at home.

karen, I hope your appointment goes well.

My MM labs are stable more or less, but Hematologist makes point of saying I still have MM. He is concerned that my calcium is little elevated and wants me to contact the endocrinologist before my appointment in 2 weeks. Surgeon said to take the calcium until I see her. I will message her through the patient portal. I know she won't be concerned with the number. Different specialties, different points of view. I'm still tired and have been for some time, but more since surgery. He recommended that I talk to my PCP about a sleep study. I had to opportunity to do it this afternoon as I got into the doctor for a sinus infection. After we were done regarding the sinus infection, PCP asked if he could do anything else for me (first time I've ever seen this doctor and he is retiring beginning of April). So I brought up what Hematologist suggested and asked if there is anyone they recommend. PCP said that they now do sleep studies at home. He had me complete this survey and my score was high enough to warrant a sleep study. So he is going to order a home sleep study!

My husband asked me jokingly if I wonder what the next problem will be! I told him that I'm tired (pun intended) of the whole thing!! DH worries about me being tired and my stamina. I can no longer walk as fast as I used to - about 16-17 minute/mile - now I'm closer to 20 minute/mile.

I got my release to return to work on the 21st and it includes 10# weight restrictions and no strenuous activity till February 27 - that is 6 weeks post surgery. I thought it ended today. DH asked me if I wanted to take more time off work and I said that is only a week after I go back, but only 3 or 4 work days. I'll figure out my backpack with my computer for those few days.

We leave in the morning to see our granddaughter and her parents - I will pick her up and hold her. I'll let DH take care of my carry-on to put in the overhead bin. It is going to be cold in Toronto and since I get cold so easily, I'm taking my snow pants for warmth and wearing my boots - also have a few extra layers for under my coat. The cold in Toronto is so different than Denver due to the humidity/dampness - the cold just goes through you!

Lori - how are you doing?

Kim - only 4 more work days!!!

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Hump Day! The work countdown has changed a little bit. I discovered I have 2 paid days off that I need to take or will lose, so I am taking them on Friday and Monday, the last 2 days I would have been working, so now my last actual working day is tomorrow. Frankly, I am really excited to only have to get up to the alarm one more day! As much as I'm going to miss many of the people, I am not going to miss the office politics and craziness.

Zoe was funny yesterday ayem. When it was time for the last trip out while I got dressed she wouldn't get out of the recliner where she was curled up snoozing. Then she wouldn't get out and get in her crate. So I left her out and came home to a whole bunch of trash strewn all around the living room. So she's back to normal and WILL be going in the crate today!

Karen--I hope the appointment went well. Maine got lucky, the storm moved out to sea and missed us totally.

    Carole--happy Mardi Gras!

Sunshine--it was very scary at first, but once I figured out what was going on and knew it wasn't a serious injury or illness it was kind of funny. BUT, lesson learned, anything like that, including my medications, are now on top of the fridge out of the reach of even super munchie finding doggos!

Karen--sorry to hear a sleep study has been recommended, but glad it can be done at home where it will be more comfortable for you. The being tired and not being able to do the things you used to do is an annoying part of aging, made worse with medical conditions adding to it. Damp cold is really much colder than dry cold. Much more miserable and harder to warm up from.

    Hump Day Cocktail

    Ingredients

    1 ounce chambord

    1 ounce rosé

    1/2 ounce vanilla vodka

    1/8 ounce lime juice

    1/8 ounce egg white

    Directions

Mix all ingredients in a Boston glass. Add ice and shake. Double strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with a sprig of rosemary.

Kim - hooray, one more day! Glad you found out about the 2 days - what a nice treat to find out you are retired after Thursday instead of Monday. Chance to really enjoy the long week-end.

We are planning to take Uber to the airport. Uber is supposed to be striking today as well as Lyft, Uber Eats and Door Dash. If we can't take Uber because no drivers are available we'll drive to the airport and pay to park. Two hours till we need to head to the airport. The countdown is on till I get to love on my granddaughter. Our daughter will pick us up at the airport and I get to sit in the back seat next to her:) Can you believe she will be 9 months on Friday!

Happy V day to all who celebrate. To me its just Wednesday, another day of the week!

NM WOW, almost done, just tomorrow to deal with. I had to chuckle about Zoe getting into the gummies. I wonder what she thought about that! Supposedly you can't OD on Willy, and just have to wait it out.

Carol, on the way to the hospital, I stopped and got 2 custard Paczke's. And yep, I ate them both! Happy Mardi Gras!

    Karen, enjoy!

I'm hooked up to getting IV anti b's. I hope they work fast! Having Neph. tubes exchanged today. Hoping I'm not in here too long. I have the moving company coming March 8,9,or 10 and still have so much to do. I can however change the date with no issues. So I may have to make it later.

    Quiet in here!

NM, you should be sleeping in and not have to get up by an alarm! Congratulations!!!

Well, I am home from the hospital. They STILL, really don't know what's going on with my legs. Ruled out cellulitis, visually and due to no reaction from anti b's. Had me on IV anti b's, that wasn't working. Put me on pill form now, so I could take at home. 5 days left of those. Had another US before I left. Gal was very thorough, but boy did it hurt! Still no clots. So basically, I know nothing! Have to turn around and go back down to the valley Sunday or Monday, step daughter and her DH are flying in and want to see me. Tuesday is chemo. I'm never gonna get packed up to move!

Congrats, NM, hope you have a glorious retirement.

Goldie, did they rule out "pure and simple" lymphedema? Hope they can figure that out for you.

DH and I are back. I posted his experience on the what's for dinner thread.

We woke yesterday to glorious snow…sadly, also a power outage. Amateurs out here for a winter. Thankfully, only 4 hours…and being home, priceless.
