Good Morning, Loungettes!  Happy TGIF Day!  I did not realize how long it has been since I was in the lounge this week, not sure what happened. My cousin from Los Vegas is home for a few days, met her at the airport yesterday, going down to spend the day tomorrow, Mom and I are taking her out to dinner the night before she goes back home.

MOmmy—glad no one got hurt in that plane accident!

Carole—glad you have the heat pump to keep the camper warm!

Jazzsy—fall has indeed arrived.  Getting into the 40s at night here.

Misty—Fall is my favorite season, too. Warm enough to do things outside, fewer bugs, much led mud, and very pretty colors.

Karen—I'm praying the ophthamologist was able to put you on medication to manage the glaucoma and that you don't need surgery. I don't blame your DH for not wanting any more appointments for you. It does seem like they find something new each visit! So nice that DD#2 will have an extended stay! And for DD#1 and #2 to get to see each other after so long! The lower back soreness may come from wearing the boot—the extra weight will throw your muscle alignment off balance while walking and that can cause low back aching. Glad to hear the CKD isn't from chemo, hopefully that means it is from something that can be reversed.

Misty—praying that you are not badly impacted by Helene beyond the inconvenience of having to prepare and businesses and schools closing down for a few days.

    Morning, Minus!

    Petite—praying for your safety, too!

Karen—I've heard the PT for that kind of surgery can be pretty intensive but very helpful. The school will just have to cope with your appointments, it's covered under the ADA.  No reason they shouldn't accommodate you the same way they would accommodate a child with a similar issue. What a lovely shoe!!

    Can't resist the tempt

    ation this morning:

    Hurricane Cocktail Recipe

    Ingredients:
    2 oz white rum
    2 oz dark rum
    1 oz orange juice
    1 oz lime juice
    2 oz passion fruit juice
    .5 oz simple syrup
    .5 oz grenadine
Orange slices and maraschino cherries for garnish

    Directions:
    1. Add ice and all of the ingredients into a cocktail shaker and shake well.
    2. Strain into a glass and make sure to fill the glass with ice if its warm out!
    3. Garnish with a orange slice and cherry if desired. I think it makes this drink so much prettier!

I just saw that Maggie Smith of “Harry Potter” and “Downton Abbey” fame died today

I'd so like to make the Hurricane Cocktail - but I don't have any Passion Fruit juice. Darn.

NM - 40's is it??? We a cold spell last night. Below 70 for the first time at 66. No worries - it was back up to 90 today.

Yup Mommy - I read about Maggie Smith's death too. She was so fantastic - even before the years of Potter & Downton. I remember "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie" from 1969. Take a look at all her other pictures - not to mention live plays.

Thinking of everyone dealing with Helene. Hope you and you families are OK.

Heard from my friend in Florida. She is fine, big relief considering what they were saying about Helene.

Hi ladies- end of September already, where did the month go? It's been warmer here lately and feeling more like August again (in the low 90s) but will be back down in the 80s this week. Mornings are cool and had a couple nights down into the upper 50s. I have been able to enjoy my patio a bit more lately with less mosquitos and when there is no smoke. We had some smoke from the CA fires here recently and they are doing prescribed burns here too which has brought smoke down to the city too. October is a lovely weather month and the balloon fiesta starts soon next weekend so they are floating over the patio in large numbers in the morning.

About the time I was home and caught up from my NYC trip, I came down with some asthma issues and then a bad lower respiratory virus. The smoke mentioned above probably created some of this as it tends to tank my lungs, and was pretty sick for about a week. After going to urgent care early last week and getting some better meds (including a stronger cough medicine and some steroids for my asthma), I am doing much better. Feeling 90% there but being careful as this was a tough one and don't want a relapse. I have been doing well with my health this year, but this one was a tough one and had me a bit scared. I had an infected bronchitis years ago with wildfire smoke that almost landed me in the hospital and knew I had to get this figured out quickly.

I know there has been such devastation in parts of Florida and on up north into TN and NC. The videos I have seen from the flooding are beyond words, and know whole communities have been wiped out. I know we have some sisters here in FL and maybe some others in affected areas or with family there. I pray you, your families and friends are safe if you have been impacted by this horrific storm.

Shanah Tova to those who celebrate.

I'm glugging the red wine in every iteration.
DH's jaw surgery is healing slowly. He may need surgery for his trigger thumb and carpal tunnel.

Wally - thanks for the RH greetings. Most of my cooking is done except for vegetables. I started cooking about 1 1/2 weeks ago. I was talking to a neighbor the other day and asked if she was going to her daughter and she said her daughter doesn't do anything. So she is joining us tomorrow night. Still it will be a small group, the family is 4 (DH,DS,DD#2, me) and my neighbor makes 5.

The devastation from Helene is just heart breaking. So much damage.

Today was my first day back at work since August 29th. My foot is healing how it is supposed to, but still swollen and sore at times. I got out of the boot on Thursday and can manage to get my running shoes on if I loosen all the laces. I'm going to PT twice/weekly for 1 - 2 months.

Yesterday my DD#2 and DH went hiking to one of their favorite places. The Aspen colors were awesome.

Look what I did yesterday!!! Something I've been wanting to do for over a year. One of my gf when I sent her the picture said I'm "colorful"

I may check in tomorrow morning before work, but then I won't be online till at least Saturday night.

We are home and the ice maker is working! We had bagged ice in our martinis last night but tonight's cocktails will have cubed ice.

Yesterday it didn't seem as humid as some Octobers have been when we arrived home from MN. Today will be grocery shopping and unpacking. It feels good to be home. I take longer to make the transition than dh takes. He went to the gym this morning. I ease into the return home phase just as I ease into the MN summer phase.

    Happy Thursday.

Good Morning, Loungettes!  Happy Thirsty Thursday! I had a great time visitng with the cousin from Las Vegas and catching up with cousins from Massachusettes, and some local cousins that I don't see very often. Took Mom, the visiting cousin and one other out to lunch Tuesday, then ran Mom home for her new recliner delivery. I had moved the old recliner before we left for lunch, which was good becuase I thought delivery was between 1 and 3 peeyem, but it was between 12 and 3 peeyem, and they were at Mom's place when we got there at 12:40. Fortunately, they hadn't waited long and were very kind to accept my apologies. So, got Mom all settled, and came home to a couple of moderately unhappy puppers who decided to forgive me after getting some extra treatos.  Yesterday ayem Mom calls first thing, she's sending the recliner back, it's not at all comfortable to sleep in. She's going to see if she can get ahold of someone at the place where she bought the old recliner, and see if someone can come and fix it so the feet can go up again. I think that's going to be a bit of a long shot since she got it from the Bargain Barn, but we shall see. At least now Mom is less unhappy that the furniture store did not take away the old recliner when they delivered the new one. Somehow she thought the delivery fee was a removal fee, it took quite a bit of explaining to get her to understand.

MOmmy—I was sad to see the new of Maggie Smith's passing, too. I didi not realize she was in Harry Potter until saw it mentioned in some of the reports. Very talented actress. Glad your freind in Florida is ok.

Minus—yup, 40s overnight is the usual for around here starting around  late September, start of October. Funny to hear you speak of below 70 as a cold spell, around here, 70 is unusual for a high this time of year! My brother and his wife life in North Carolina but far enough inland that they got a lot of rain and some minor ponding and flooding but nothing to interfere with day-to-day life, for which I am grateful. So many people are deeply affected by flooding and lack of power.

Jazzy—Funny you should talk about smoke, an air quality alert just went out for a large area around me due to the smoke from an energy recovery plant fire, one of those places that takes in trash and converts it to energy. It's been closed for some time, just recently been bought and the new owners just started renovations. I didn't realize a lot of trash—up to 40 foot pile--had been left in the facility until hearing the reports of fire in a large holding area, one that cannot be entered by firefighters due to the risks. Must be a huge amount of trash there, the fire is expected to burn for several days. Latest news is they think lithium batteries caused the explosion and fire. Sorry to hear you caught a respiratory virus that really knocked you down. I know how scary that can be, and am glad you got attention quickly. I'm sure the smoke is not helping at all.

Wallycat—glad to hear DH is healing, even if slowly. Are the trigger thumb and carpal tunnel on the same hand? Maybe both surgeries could be done at the same time? I can't imagine how annoying it would be to have to have surgery on one hand/wrist, wait for it to heal and then have surgery on the other!

Karen—Wishing you and your family a happy Holiday. How does it feel to be back to work? I hope the foot isn't too uncomfortable for you. You are indeed colorful!  Great picture of you and of the fall colors!

     Reader—gorgeous sunset!

NM, he has carpal tunnel on both hands and trigger thumb on right hand. He is ambidextrous so who knows how this will play out.

Cool temps are here and I am happy. Red wine continues to flow…..

My family did not suffer with Helena, the flooding through our county was bad. I think it is the worst we have seen. This storm was a beast and so much destruction through so many states. I was thinking that if I lived up in those other states, I would not have expected that. It does make you feel good to see how many helpful people there are and how they pull together. My dd was gone when the storm hit, so my dgd and I had to make sure her home and mine was ok. Her school was flooded and now they have the middle school in with the high school, she said it was boring they sit in the cafeteria and go outside or to the gym when the other kids have lunch. I don't know how long it will take before her school is habitable. I told her that she should journal about this as it is a part of history she can share with her children. She just rolled her eyes at me. lol

Karen I love the pictures and Reader, that sky was spectacular.

Wallycat, good thing you husband is ambidextrous, that maybe helpful.

I am flying out to California to visit my cousin for a week. I have never been there, so I am excited. The timing worked out perfectly because she usually babysits her dgs but he will be gone that week.

Hello to all and I hope everyone is well.

I'm gathering my things for the New York fashion show this weekend! I'm so excited to see in person some of the fellow AFC breast cancer survivors I've met online. I'll share pictures, but virtual tickets are still available if folks want to watch the stream.

We’ve got friends coming up from Louisiana tomorrow (12 hour drive). They’ve been here and bought property on our ridge line but haven’t seen my she-shed beach bar yet, so there will almost definitely be margaritas and maybe some wine on the deck to enhance the Mountain View.

mirianda - enjoy and savor every moment.

illimae - they are going to be so impressed by your she-shed beach bar! I am impressed just by the pictures. I think NM could come up with a special drink just for the occasion.

Good Morning, Loungettes!  Happy TGiF day! I've got to admit Fridays don't seem quite as notable now as when I was working. Just keeping track of the day of the week has become more challenging. Not that I mind at all, that's what calendars are made for, and crossing out days on a calendar is strangely satisfying. It is a bit odd to be out and about thinking it's Saturday and realizing it's actually Thursday, which has happened a few times now. Gotta love adjusting to retirement!

Wally—DH being ambidextrous may be a blessing as he goes through these surgeries.  It will be interesting to see how it works out for him.

MOmmy—you are right, it is time for the wardrobe change over!

Misty—glad to hear your family has not been greatly impacted by Helena. I can imagine how disruptive it is for your granddaughter to have school in a different location. Great idea about having her journal the experience. Of course she doesn't see the value of that now, though, I am sure. The trip to California sounds exciting! What part of the California will you be in?

Miriandra—I can imagine you are very excited for the fashion show! Can't wait to see the pictures.

Illi—your friends are in for a couple of treats, I hope they enjoy them!

    Mountain Friends cocktail

    Ingredients

    Instructions

    1. Shake all ingredients with ice, strain into a cocktail glass, and serve.

Hey gals! I’m a very proud auntie today. My SIL sent me video of my niece playing flute in the homecoming parade for the school system she is in. She was right up front and did a fantastic job! Her school band played Eye of the Tiger.

Good Morning, Loungettes!  Happy Sunday Funday! I"m sitting here in my recliner with my laptop precariously perched on top of Co;t's back, who is contententedly lying across my lap. His butt end is on the recliner arm, so it's several inches higher than his head end, which is tucked between me and the other arm of the chair, meaning I have to read, type, and navigate on a laptop at a nearly 45 degree angle and with my right arm hanging over his back haunches and my left elbow bouncing off the arm of the chair. Not exactly comfortable for me. Colt is totally relaxed and snoring. At least my lap is warm!

MOmmy—how wonderful for your niece! I bet the video is very exciting. I love that song.

    Carole—sounds like progress!

    Jazzy—pretty pumpkins!

    DRUNKEN PUMPKIN

    Ingredients

    • Cup of ice
    • 8 ounces Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte (small or large container)
    • 3 ounces Whipped Cream Vodka or regular vodka
    • Whipped Cream (optional, garnish)
    • Dash of ground cinnamon (garnish)
    • 2 Cinnamon sticks (optional, garnish)

    Instructions

    1. Fill cocktail shaker or mason jar with ice.
    2. Measure pumpkin spice latte and pour into shaker.
    3. Measure and add vodka.
    4. Put the lid on the shaker and shake vigorously, until the shaker starts to frost.
    5. Pour into two glasses.
    6. Top with whipped cream (optional) (I used a spray can of whipped cream)
    7. Sprinkle ground cinnamon on top of the whipped cream.
    8. Garnish each drink with a cinnamon stick, if you like.

I love the pumpkins picture. I have been tempted to buy a couple of pumpkins for decoration outside the front door but resisted, remembering the year I didn't resist. I left the pumpkins out too long and they deteriorated from the bottom. What a mess when I picked them up.

    Happy Sunday.
