Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Monday MOnkey Day! Happy Labor Day! I hope everyone is enjoying the long weekend. Not much going on around here except the weather has turned the corner from summer to fall. Evenings are cool enough to turn off fans and reach for the light blanket. Days are comfortable to be doing things without being overly hot and humid. Leaves are starting to turn color in some places. It seems like summer sped by even though some of the days seemed long. It's nice to not be dreading driving in the snow and ice and freezing rain this coming winter.
Minus—I hope Colt doesn't learn to bump a full cup of coffee, too! The trip is in April next year, 242 days away. I'm sure I'll be taking about it off and on between now and then, and more as the time gets closer! I haven't heard of Ballotin Chocolate Mocha Cream, will have to look for it. Sounds interesting.
MOmmy—making curtains is fun and rewarding, quick and easy and look so good when finished!
Reader—cucumber gin and tonic sounds lovely! Was it made with cucumber infused gin, or waws the cucumber added to the drink?
Carole—I've noticed I'm getting up later, too, and then realized that sunrise is getting later. I hope DH had fun with the campground activities and you enjoyed your leisurely day.
Karen—glad to hear surgery went well and you are comfortable. I’m sure the short term inconvenience will be worth the lack of pain later, but It's a royal pain in the anatomy when you are going through it! That is quite the boot! Love the way the two toes stick out of the dressing!
MOmmy—putting together a stand yourself is quite the achievement given how unhelpful the included directions can be. I"m a believer in using whatever works and I like the looks of regardless of what it's labeled for. A nightstand for a TV stand, sure, go for it!

Karen, glad the surgery is over and you are doing well.

Did some penny pinching as far as our pillows which were going flat. Bought a bag of stuffing for crafting, sewing needles and straight pins. Opened a seam on the pillows and stuffed them and hand sewed them up.

Happy Labor Day and greetings from NYC

Jazzy - I'd missed that you had a trip planned. Hope you're having a fantastic time. I was just getting ready to write & ask you about Noisy Water Winery around Ruidoso. I was reading in my NM magazine that they have a Besito Caliente Green Chile Wine. Blend of Muscato & Riesling with orchard fruits, infused with Hatch green chile for 3 weeks before bottling. If you can find it in AQ after you get back, let me know what you think.

Hi all, hope you've had a great labor day weekend. We ended up sort of impromptu having 4 family ans 2 other friends over for grilling. DH grilled beef tips, chicken and sausage, I made at ton of potato salad, deviled eggs, SIL brought an outstanding Mediterranean salad and I made chocolate chip pb brownies along with strawberries and cream someone brought. A dry white wine was the accompaniment, 2 for me which is unusual.
NM the cucumber was sliced really thin into the drink. Very flavorful!
Jazzy fun trip! I want to get back to New York to visit.
Mommy Bravo on the creativity and savings.

Also had to sew up a tear the mover had done to my new mattress pad I bought for our bed just before the move and a blanket which had a tear as well.
Bed frame and foundation got put together yesterday and for the first time since before we moved, we slept on our own bed!
May work on pinning the seamers of my new curtains today, hurt my wrist yesterday with working on the bed.0 -
We spent some time at the US open but before the big upsets. Coco Gauff is my fav and got to see her play

Nice
Not doing much today, woke up to a bad cold starting!
1 -
M0mmy, sorry to hear that you are developing a cold. I'm sure it feels good to sleep in your own bed
Reader, sounds like you had a nice long week-end.
Jazzy - are you still in NYC?
We went to see Reagan on Monday - great movie, but I was so tired once I sat down, I dozed off a couple times. I didn't think I was that tired.
Yesterday was our 47th wedding anniversary. We didn't do anything special, though DH grilled a wonderful steak. I took potato knishes out of the freezer.
We ordered our new dishwasher today from Costco. We are getting a Bosch series 100. I wanted black so that limited some models, but we wanted black. Our fridge is black and so is the glass on the ovens. I don't really like stainless steel. So now we will have 2 new appliances. We got our fridge in July just before we left - it was 20 years old and the dishwasher is also at least 20 years old. The racks are falling apart.
I got results from my labs for my Hematologist appointment on Monday. My calcium is elevated again. A few other numbers seem wonky so curious what hematologist will say. I know he’ll be annoyed with the calcium levels. But Endocrinologist insists I take calcium. I guess I need to make an appointment with her.
First post op visit with Podiatrist this morning. It is healing well. Having my foot washed felt so good plus new bandages. Next week he’ll take the stitches out and X-rays. He wants me to do PT, I have an appointment in 3 weeks. Got permission to go to grocery store and even walk around the block. After being housebound for a walk with my foot elevated this was such welcome news. DH is happy to give me back the grocery shopping task.3 -
Feeling better! Moved more stuff in from our storage!

Poor foot! Hugs, Karen.

@karen1956, you are far braver than I am. Your tootsies look very sore, gentle hug for you and tootsies.

Karen - I got back late Tuesday and back to work Wed. It was an intense 3 days of re -entry but we had such a great trip
Your toes look sore but are healing sister. Love the blue Pedi

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Saturday! Took Mom to her echocardiogram appointment yesterday and they let me stay with her and even projected the images onto a big screen so Mom and I could both watch. It was fascinating! I"ve seen reports and such before, and could follow a little of what the tech was doing. It will be very interesting to see what the report says. Mom's heart rate dropped to 37 a couple of times during the scan, never got above 50. No wonder she feels tired all the time! Then she got a Holter monitor put on, and boy has that tech changed since the last time I saw one in use! We've got to take the Holter back to the hospital on Monday. I"m really curious to see what the results show.
MOmmy—love the penny pinching pillow process!
Jazzy—great pics of NYC! I've only seen the Statue of Liberty from the air flying into and out of JFK airport. I'd love to see it up close.
Morning, Minus!
Reader—quite the Labor Day party you wound up having! I bet sleeping in your own bed again felt wonderful!
Karen—Happy Anniversary! Congrats on the new dishwasher. I bet getting the foot washed and rebandaged felt really good. Looks like it's healing nicely, clean incision lines, minimal redness, doesn't look like a lot of swelling, no signs of infection.
Morning, Carole!
Fill any type glass 1/2 - 3/4 with Ice. Add equal amounts of Green Creme de Menthe and Kahlúa® - enough to cover the Ice.
EKG #2
Fill any type glass 1/2 - 3/4 with ice. Add equal amounts of Chocolate Liqueur and Kahlua - enough to cover the ice.
ROSEMARY E.K.G.
INGREDIENTS:
1 oz Esprit de Krewe Cane Vodka
2 oz fresh squeezed Grapefruit juice
1/2 oz Vanilla Simple Syrup
1/2 oz St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur
TT sparkling water
GARNISH
1 Rosemary Sprig
Smacked to release the oils and leave in cocktail to add a lovely aroma with each sip
1 Grapefruit Wedge
VANILLA SIMPLE SYRUP
Add (2) cups sugar, (1) cup water, and (1) whole vanilla bean split and scraped out seeds to a small sauce pan
Heat over stove and stir until all sugar and water is blended. Do not boil as this can cause sugar crystals to form.
Transfer to container and store in fridge. It’s your choice to take out the vanilla bean or keep it with the syrup. Personally, we keep it with the syrup.
COCKTAIL
Combine Esprit de Krewe Cane Vodka, grapefruit juice, St. Germain Elderflower liqueur, and vanilla simple syrup in a shaker cup with ice.
Shake 5-7 times. Strain into cocktail glass filled with ice
Top with sparkling water and garnish with smacked rosemary sprig and grapefruit wedge.

Working on a blanket for my favorite niece. She told me that the blanket that my mom made for her was too itchy to use, so I got some softer yarn and started making her a blanket for Christmas.

Kim - yup, its healing nicely and as expected. It's not really sore so that is good. The biggest pain is taking the boot on and off, especially at night to go to the bathroom. I've gotten lazy and only do the bottom strap then hold it with my hand - granted I'm bend over but it's quicker than doing it up and undoing it. I have a cover to go over my foot so the incision doesn't get wet and have a shower chain. Not quite the same using the hand held but, its a shower so I won't complain.
The foot looks worse than it feels. Stitches come out Thursday so I"m curious to see what the incision will look like. When I sent my son a picture of my foot, he commented what the ladies will think when I go for my next pedi. It might not be till spring as once sandal weather is over, I don't spend the money. Some years, I've worn sandals into mid October but that depends on how cool the mornings are.
Walking around the block a couple times/day the past two days feels great and Friday going to the grocery store was a treat. I have to take the boot off to drive and put on a surgical shoe, then put the boot back on then repeat to go home. When I'm home, which is most of the time, I keep my foot elevated with the boot off.
m0mmy - how old is your niece? How sweet of you to make her another blanket. Someone I was friendly with always knit baby blankets - she made my youngest daughter a blanket - I chose primary colors multi thread colors and 26 1/2 years later she still has the blanket. She didn't take it with her the first few years post high school, but a few years ago she took it with along with her favorite build-a-bear. It's nice to have a piece of home when you live almost 7K miles away.
Kim - let us know how the halter monitor went with your mom
Carole - when do you head back to LA?
Tomorrow morning I have my quarterly visit with my Hematologist. A little worried about some of the numbers especially the calcium, but who knows what he will think. My kidney numbers are always elevated so I never worry about those. It's the labs that I don't know so much about when they are out of range. That's the drawback to patient portal access to test results - don't know when to worry about wonky numbers.
Have a great Sunday

My niece is 12. She loves anything her auntie does for her. I chose to do the blanket in turquoise, periwinkle, pink and peach with an arctic blue color for the border.

We plan to head south later this month. Sunday, 27th. If the weather should turn miserable in the meanwhile, we could change that plan. Glad you're doing well, Karen.

Have a safe trip back Carole.

Meanwhile, Francine seems to be headed for the Louisiana coast.

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Twofer Tuesday! It was a pretty busy weekend keeping up with Mom's holter monitor questions. Then the gizmo came off Saturday night overnight some time. After an hour of trying ot coach her over the phone how to put the monitor back on it still wasn't working, so I drove over, and she had connected the one lead to her chest but not the box lead, so no wonder! Trying to talk her through doing something is an adventure. Yesterday I drove her back to drop off the monitor and associated gear (about an hour's drive from Mom's, I live about half and hour from her place). We did get to stop and have lunch at a place I've loved eating at down that way and haven't been to for awhile. Then got Mom settled at her place, and was going to stop at a distillery near where I live to pick up some gin and cordials with a gift card I have, but it was closed. No big deal, there's a winery a few miles further on that has a wine that I really, really love and haven't had in a while, but they were closed, too. What is with these places being closed on Mondays???
The puppers were not pleased with being left home alone all day. We're still playing ketchup in the attention and treats deficits. They are either both ignoring me or both trying to get into my lap at the same time! Going to have to spend some serious time with them today.
MOmmy—you are a good grandmother to make GD a new blanket!
Karen—glad to hear the foot isn't too sore. I can imagine getting into and out of that boot is quite the process, don't blame you for taking a short cut at night like that. Just be careful not to fall, OK? I bet the pedi people have seen feet with surgical marks on them before, and probably won't be freaked out at all. It's not like you're going to get a pedi with the stitches still in, which would be really surprising! How would they soak that foot without getting it wet? Or maybe they'd do a half pedi, only working on the other foot which isn't the one that needs massaging! I think the holter monitor went ok, I just hope there is enough data on there to be read where it came over during the night. I told Mom to leave it on through Monday morning or at least Sunday evening instead of taking it off midday Sunday as originally scheduled, but I'm not sure if she did or not. She says she took it off Monday morning, then said Sunday morning, so it's hard to tell. I guess we'll find out. I hear you about the lab results on the portal. There's lots of discussion about it being bad for patients to be able to see lab results online because of the potential for getting worried about non-worrisome results or getting bad news and then having to wait to talk to a provider and get a full explanation of the situation and start putting a plan together. On the flip side, patient access to results this way shortens the time spend anxiously waiting for results, and helps prevent overlooked/missed abnormal results being brought to the provider's attention and prevents treatment delays. I think it comes down to individual choice.
MOmmy—that color scheme sounds beautiful! Will you share a pic when it's done?
Carole—prayers for good weather and safe travels!

Will do! I know my niece will love the blanket! She calls me Auntie Ace as she says I am the Best Auntie in the World!

NM, I didn't realize you're that far from your mother. That's a lot of driving, to and from.

Here is the colors and the partially finished blanket. Have to go through my variegated yarn to find a nice one to go around it. Will post another picture when the border is done.

@m0mmyof3, the colours look so cheerful. I could never manage to get the tension right when knitting - so gave it up and took up counted cross stitch instead.

I have to share about a wonderful bottle of Malbec that my BFF gave me for our joint B-day last month. Layer Cake from Mendoza, Argentina. Really a smooth wine.

DH and I just finished season 1 of KAOS on Netfilx. It's fun to see Jeff Goldblum really acting instead of the charming ham that he's cultivated for so long. The writing and acting are fantastic.

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Thirsty Thursday! I had a lovely evening with the Wednesday, Women and Wine group last night. We met at a Thai restaurant that I had never been to before that had very good food and a surprisingly large wine list and drink menu for a little 2 room place that seats maybe 50 people. Met a couple of new ladies, got caught up with some of the regulars. Much less expensive than most places we go, too. The puppers were not happy with me when I got home, and they both decided to pin me down in the recliner for a while while they told me exactly what was on their minds! It was actually pretty funny.
Carole—The drive to Mom's is the same as I was commuting for work, so that really doesn't feel like much of a drive at all to me. The drive to the hospital, on the other hand, is more than I like, but still much better than waiting for months for a local appointment. At least I don't have to get up at 5 ayem when going to Mom's!
MOmmy—what beautiful colors!
Morning, Mallee!
Minus—Layer Cake is a great name for a wine!
Miriandra—I've always enjoyed watching Jeff Goldblum. I'll have to check out that show.
Oh my goodness, you ladies should see Colt this morning. You know how he likes to chase around after lights? Well, right now he is chasing a light all over the living room, and it's the reflection off his new name tag! Every time he moves, it moves, and he can NOT figure it out!
Wise Reflection

1½ oz (45 ml) Casamigos Reposado Tequila
¾ oz (22 ml) freshly squeezed lemon juice
½ oz (15 ml) Simple Syrup**
3 dashes orange bitters
6 sage leaves, divided
