NM, I am so sorry you had such a bummer of a day, on a day off no less! That just isn't right. And Snookie will just have to wait to go outside. Mommy needs some R&R, some Elmo tickles and a massage from one of the boys.

....and then I'm like Kathy.......if that doesn't help.....I haven't a clue....excepty maybe a sleeping pill tonight. Which I have decided that I am going to take one 2 times a week!

    tickles.....Lori

Lori, that's a great idea! I never take one because I don't want to get addicted to them but the hot flashes make me miserable - as does lack of sleep! It's amazing that my husband still puts up with me, I can't seem to stop crying.

Any idea if booze helps get the libido back?

I don't know if booze jump starts the libido, but for me it certainly jump starts the hot flashes!

I took a xanax at bed time last night and slept pretty well (for me).  Ah, better living through chemistry.  I don't due that often for fear of addiction, too, but once in a while it really helps.

Snow day today, at least for the morning.  Hopefully things will open up in the pm as planned, otherwise I've got to figure out how to get 12 hours of class time fit in before next Tuesday.  I'm tempted to start dipping into one of the fountains for breakfast.  Hmm, maybe I'd better have my first cup of coffee first.  Winter driving and alcohol consumption are a painful mix.  Pants, be a dear and brew a pot of gourmet coffee, please.  Maybe the Guatamalean peaberry or the Sumatran? I'm sure you can pick out something very good.  And could you fill the adorable little creamers shaped like penises with real cream?  Thanks soooo much, Pants, dear!

Snookie has decided to forgive me (she's outside rolling around in the new snow that fell overnight) AND she smells much better!

Welcome back Connie. I was just getting so tired of not getting proper sleep. (no pun intended) One of my doctors gave 10mg valium, and told me not to take them all the time, because of the addiction, but they don't help anyways. We had some Wal Mart brand sleeping pills here, so I took one of those one night, and was actually quite amazed! I still was up with hot flashes, but not as many and was able to go right back to sleep. I have to give myself about 12 hrs with them. Hard to get up in the morning, you feel a tad groggy for a bit. But its so nice to get some good sleep, it's worth it! Now....as for the llibido! I know of NOTHING that helps that, other than an understanding partner! And some TLC.

Looks like its a martini week here at The HTL

NM, you had me ROFL with CREAM in the little penis shaped creamers....OMG!!!! Glad Snookie is enjoying all that new snow! And I guess she thinks you are her best friend again...much better than yesterday.

Connie, I have NO idea on how to get libido back...other than taking Viagra (it really does work for a lot of women!) and setting up a romantic scenario. Like Lori said, having an understanding partner helps too...but then again she is still a newlywed and that can make a difference (at least I hope it does, Lori!). There is a thread about getting your mojo back....you might want to check that out too. Sorry you are still crying...cause of the hot flashes and lack of sleep? Instead of presc pills, I sometimes take AdvilPM or TylenolPM, and that helps me a lot. Groggy in the morning, as Lori mentioned, but worth it to get a good nights sleep!!! I also keep our home pretty cool, so don't have as many hot flashes at night as I used to.

Dee, HunkyD, junie, jaybird, CAZ, Lori, Harley, etc......hope everyone is having a good HUMP DAY!

    Wild, Wacky Wednesday to all,
    Kath

Cheers ladies!!! Having a little R & R in NY tonight. Got in from Moscow, going back to Moscow tomorrow and no real time to go home inbetween trips so am camped out in a quiet (no child, no dogs) hotel enjoying some 1664 and potato chips (my indulgence!). I wanted to do some computer work for work but my pop-up blocker is preventing it so why not drink and relax instead? I can get the work done another time at work or at home on my desktop.

Having trouble with the hot flashes myself! If alcohol is making them worse I'm not noticing - am I too drunk to notice?  (j/k) I have them at work and at night (while obviously not drinking) so for me alcohol is the balm not the problem. Am trying black cohosh but don't think it's working. Going to ask my doctor about cialis because my sex drive is in the crapper. It got bad at BC dx (and subsequent chemopause and then out of) and was coming back and then now aagain it's gone. No wonder I drink!!! Yell

Going to try the Walmart sleeping pills. Thanks Lori!

Tried to post some pics here last night but it didn't work. Will try again.....

Well, ladies, I'm just getting in after a very productive afternoon's work.  No more snow driving today, so now I can dip into one of the fountains.  Which ever one is closest will be just fine, they are all so tasty.  I can sip and chuckle about the dunderheads out driving in the snow this evening.

There really hasn't been all that much snow, not for Maine in winter.  When I was growing up what we're getting now would never be considered a "storm."  It's snowing.  In the summer it rains, in the winter it snows.  In both situations you slow down and pay close attention to what's up ahead, and don't follow the car in front of you too closely.  My drive back from the coast is about 30 miles.  If the road didn't go up and down hill so much I swear it would be only 10 miles.  So I'm tootling along, going at well under the speed limit but at a safe speed for the blowing snow and decreased visiblity.  A guy in a pickup didn't like my speed, so he pulls out and passes me going up a hill.  Now this particular hill has a hard right turn at the very top, right where the trees end and a large field begins.  There is always drifting snow at the top of that hill on that corner.  So pickup boy goes roaring past me halfway up this hill.  As I come around the corner at the top of the hill what do I see?  Pickup boy has slid off the road on the right hand side and run right into another car that had passed me earlier in the trip, which was also slid off the side of the road!  So little ole me, who was puttering along too slow for everyone else, ends up pulling into the turnout just past the corner, one of the few places with cell service in that area, and calling 2 wives, 1 wrecker, and the local cops before going on my way.  Knowing response times in that area I bet I got home before the wrecker showed up! Why were they in such a hurry?  They wanted to get home before it got slippery. Gotta love male logic.

There is enough snow to make Snookie happy.  Over and over I let Snookie the dog out and then let the abominalble snow-Snookie in.  She comes in, sits down until I sweep her off, then she gets up and goes about her business.  Sometimes I think she does it just to get swept off--she loves it!  I also brought home a couple slices of pizza from dinner for her, so she's happy as a clam at high tide tonight!  Although where she buried the second slice outside baffles me. . .

Connie--the hot flashes are a real bummer, especially at night.  Not being able to sleep doesn't help with the crying either.  Have you talked with your doc about the hot flashes?  There are some medications that help.  I take gabapentin (Neurontin) for the hot flashes.  The bonus is that they help me sleep, too.  I can take one 3 times a day but I only take them at bedtime.  Effexor in lower doses than used for depression also helps and may help with the crying, too.

Jaybird--I'm one of those people who get flushed when I drink alcohol.  There's an enzyme that some people don't have or have a variation of, I forget which. The major effect is flushing when drinking alcohol.  It's a trivial thing, has no other real effect that's known, but it does mean that when I have a drink I will have a hot flash.  A glass of wine sipped during the course of a meal will give me 2 or maybe 3 hot flashes.  So drinking alcohol doesn't make hot flashes worse for everyone, just for a few unique types like me.  Then again, over indulgence would make it hard to tell!

wahine--are you one of the people who get sleepy after taking Tylenol or Advil?  There are many poeple who are and can use those as sleep aids.  Sometimes I wish I was one of those people!  Another OTC med that can help with sleep is diphenhydramine (Benadryl).  This can make some people jumpy rather than sleepy, but for those it makes sleepy it works well.  The OTC sleep aides are good, too.  Sometimes you just have to try different things to find what works for you without too much am grogginess.  Then again, the occasional groggy morning is not too high a price to pay for a good night's sleep!

Hi, I am the lady who's been screaming MASTECTOMY OR LUMPECTOMY, PLEASE HELP!

I was struggling over what decision to make since I was diagnosed on November 2nd, and on December 31 I had bilateral mastectomy.

I am really happy with my decision and it would not have been possible without the impute I got from many ladies on this and other threads.

My pathology report is back and they found three different cancers, two on the right and one on the left. Both breasts had Usual Ductal Hyperplasia Multi focal. Luckily, the nodules were all very small (2mm, 4mm, 1.5mm), no lymph nodes involvement, and very clear margins. So, the report is nothing to be happy about, but it is a very happy day for me because I went against the medical recommendation, found courage and a lot of encouragement on this site and went with my instincts.  I can clearly see that I eliminated much pain and many sad days of my future.

I was out of the hospital the next day, and have been going on long hikes since the second day. Drains were removed 8 days later.  I got 300cc on each TE's during surgery, and they're not nearly as bad as I was expecting them to be. I actually have a nice cleavage with them!  Next week I will have my first fill and my PS said that I should be done with only two fills which will make me a size C cup.  I was a small B before, so a C is a nice gift and I don't need to go bigger!

As for pain, I took Vicodin for 3 days but they made me nauseous and I started on 200mg of ibuprofen every 4-6 hours for 7 days, and now I am completely out of meds.  It is still a bit uncomfortable to sleep but it is getting better each day.

Now I should proudly wear a tee-shirt that says -"Dam right they are fake! The real ones tried to kill me!"

(I didn't come up with it! I am borrowing it from someone in one of the threads on this site, and I think it is very funny!)

Thank you and best wishes to everyone!

Erika09, YAY! Glad you have had your surgery and are recovering very well!!!! What a good decision you made to have the bilat...and I am so happy for the clear margins. Lots to celebrate!

NM, No, just Tylenol or Advil does not make me sleepy, but the PM versions of both (made to be sleep aids) do work for me, unless I am SO stressed and my brain is in overdrive, that is! I am like you...when I drink I often get flushed, and get hot flashes then also. Not reason to quit, though! I tried neurontin  also, but had to take a high dose to take care of the hot flashes, and with that high of a dose it made me feel too loopy, so I got off of it. If I could have taken it just once a day like you are doing, I would have stayed on it. Glad you were the careful driver, and were able to help those imbesols (sp?) who ended up off the road! And, I would LOVE to see a pic of Snookie covered in snow...what a sweet doggie!!!

Jaybird, let us know if the cialis works....viagra works for me (I was in a study on it, but it didn't work for too many so they don't market it for women), but you also have to take it a bit ahead of time (so I rarely use it)...cialis is supposed to work faster, I think. Crossing my fingers for you!!!

    Ciao!

    Kathy

erika--after my mast I got morphine during the night, then the covering doc wrote me a prescription for a pain med I'm allergic to when I left the hospital.  A had some pain meds left over from all the pain I was having before the mast, decided I'd use those instead.  I think I took them once or twice, moslty at night, and more because I was afraid I'd have pain and not be able to sleep than because I actually had pain.  With that great big long incision, and all that tissue gone you'ld think there'd be a lot more pain than there was.  I did use tylenol a few times, but that was for pain in my neck and back from being so off balance--being a 42 DDD and having only 1 boob and not being allowed to wear a bra or use a prosthesis makes for feeling very lopsided.  Even now, with the heavy prothesis I get achy on one side when I wear it and on the other side when I don't wear it--I still can't win!

wahine--I'll try to get a pic of the Abominable Snow Snookie--I'll post it when I get it!

Oh, Kathy, DO tell!  Surprised I'm sure my doctor won't prescribe anything like viagra or cialis but I'm going to ask him! My onc seems to think I shouldn't need anything even though I complain to him about my lack of sex drive every time I see him.

NM, I do get flushed when drinking, occasionally. It depends on what I'm drinking. But before BC and chemopause/menopause I don't recall getting hot flashes. Maybe I did??? Maybe I was too drunk to know I was having them??? (lol)

I enjoyed my two beers and am now off to bed. Cheers lovely ladies!

I've never posted on your thread, but do lurk! Just wanted to let you know that last night there was a question on Jeopardy about 190 proof alcohol. Thanks to you, I knew the answer. Everclear!     My neighbor was visiting and asked how I knew the answer. I said from a breast cancer discussion board. She's really confused - LOL  Just wanted to thank you.

Thanks for the advice and well wishes!

Part of my crying is because I'm stressing myself out from my upcoming (Feb 16) surgery - I'm having a DIEP on the right side and a hysterectomy.

I do take gabapentin - I'm up to 400 which I take just before I go to sleep. The hot flashes aren't nearly as bad as they used to be but they are still there and usually wake me up 2 - 3 times a night.

I don't have a GP right now...well, I do but she's an hour drive away so I'm trying to find one in our new town (or the one next to it) who is on our insurance and familiar with my gene mutation, BC, and low thyroid. It's being a challenge! Once I get one, I'll be sure to ask about V or C! I want to keep enjoying my honeymoon (our second anniversary is in March)!

I was hoping we'd have snow this year but alas, it looks like we aren't going to be getting any. Today we were working outside in our shirt sleeves! I miss the snow sometimes but am glad to not live in 6 month winters anymore!

alpai--LMAO at the mental picture I have of the look on your friend's face!  While you are lurking I hope you are dipping  a glass into one of the fountains or grabbing a bottle out of one of the buckets.  Have you tried the hot tub?  It's wonderful when you are up to your neck soaking away the aches and pains of life and one of the boys jumps in and gives you a foot rub.

jaybird--before starting lupron and getting thrown into menopause I would get flushed when I drank.  Now I get the flush and a hot flash.  Gotta love bc, keeps on giving and giving and giving.

Connie--No wonder you're stressed!  I'm working on setting up a prohy mast with bilat DIEP in June, and I get butterflies sometimes, and it's still 6 months away.  You're surgery date is coming right up--I think you should just go ahead and cry when you feel like. In less than a month that problem will fix itself.  Tell hubby to think of it like the hormonal effects of pregnancy-crazy and intense but you know when it will end.  I take 600 mg gabapentin and have the rare night when hot flashes don't wake me up.  Most nights one or two will wake me up but I can go right back to sleep after moving the covers off.  If you really want to shovel snow, I'll send you some. . .

WOWSERS, look like we had a really nice Pau Hanna! ....and until wee hours of the morning! I don't know where to begin.

Horny pills, Jaybird you can get those online all day long. I get emails daily from sites that sell them! So if you want them really badly, and doc won't give you a script, then I would start looking online.    How is Lucy?

E, congrats on clear margins and getting that surgery behind you.

NM, so glad those nut drivers got what they deserved. It's always nice to see that happen, or see someone pulled over that goes speeding by you. I am glad no one was hurt tho, we don't wish for that. Love it when you call your pooch the abominable snow snookie.......cute!

Connie, cry on anyones shoulder here, I don't mind....and knowing these ladies, none of them would mind either. We have our fun, but give support when one of our sista's needs it!

Apal, that is funny about Jeapordy. But please don't be a lurker....JOIN US! I always get a chuckle when I come here! These girls are the best.

As for the Wal Mart sleeping pills, their version of Tylenol PM's have the same thing in them as the sleeping pill. You just have to take 2, instead of 1 and they are are quite a bit cheaper than the sleeping pills. But for me, the 1 sleeping pill seems to work better than taking 2 of the Night Time Pain Releivers. Whats up with that? Could it be the inactive ingredients?

Hope everyone has a great day. Snowing here, and we could get 2-4 feet of snow! I am just hoping we are low enough in altitude (6000') to miss most of that!

    Snookie would love it!

Good Morning? Happy Tom Collins Thursday. Never had one of those - maybe we should have a party that only serves '60/'70's drinks? Hey - a great idea for my 50th b-day this coming June! Cool

Lori, I don't trust those on-line sex pill sites. Anyone (???) can make a pill and then sell it on the Internet. I think if my G.P. doesn't give me something then my gyne (who is his wife) or my onc will. My G.P. thinks all I need is a nice man to marry (let's not go there!) and my gyne thinks I should have my ovaries removed so she isn't the most sympathetic (we all know what happens when those little estrogen makers are taken!) so my only hope is my onc who does seem somewhat sympathetic as we've discusses estrogen supplements only if I have my ovaries out though. Maybe I should just drink more and not try to have a sex drive?

Lucy is better, thanks. She had pee pee issues (like, in the house constantly) after the steroid shot she got to counteract the other shot but seems to be okay now. Stella, the lab mix, had an upset stomach from something though. What DO they eat outside, and WHY??? Dogs, gotta love 'em! I tried to post pics from photobucket but couldn't.

Gotta go get ready for work now. Cheers!

Hi all - haven't been around much, really busy with my kids birthdays & their school stuff.

Erika09 - so happy to hear you made the right decision for you, and that you have the surgery behind you!  Congrats and welcome to "TE Land" - hope everything continues to go smoothly for you.

Dee - how are you doing, everything ok? Must be, by the looks of all the drinks you're passing out to everyone!  Hope you're well!

Hope EVERYONE is well! Had my "overfill" on Tues - the most sore I've been, but at least it's the last one. Exchange surgery is tentatively scheduled for late Feb, so I have another month with these bricks, but just have to say that I am loving going bra-less!  It's such a relief. And finally coordinated with 3 doc's offices so that I only have to get one blood draw for everybody's info/reports - the fewer needles, the better.

Think I'll hop in the hot tub with a raspberry martini and a chocolate one, too. Stay strong & stay well, xo, E (the other one)

HI gals! Regarding the gabapentin, I got up to 1200 dose, which mostly took care of the hot flashes, but like I said earlier, it made me toooooo loopy. I think its good that 400 dose is helping you Connie, and 600 dose is helping you E! Tomorrow on THE DOCTORS show (on abc at 4pm where I live), they are going to talk about hot flashes....not sure if they will say anything we don't already know, but I'll watch it and see if there is any breaking news!!

Bad storms all around us right now....and tornado warnings across the line in TN...not that far away. Hope you didn't have any bad storms junie, since they always seem to come from that direction!!!

Happy Tom, Dick and Harry Collins!!!

P.S. Jaybird, I think junie's birthday is in June too...sounds like a good reason for a big PARTAY!

WHEW gals the tornado was toooo close for comfort tonight! IT was scary to see the webcam from the tv station on top of the mountain, showing the actual tornado as it headed across the city, right smack towards where my DD and family live! Boy I was sure doing a lot of praying (after calling her to take cover ASAP)! IT was not on the ground, only in spurts, but could see all the flashes when it hit power lines. AND it did take down some power lines, large trees on houses, etc. My DD's area is without power, but will just get into the 40's tonight, so they will be fine. Saw a pic of a badly damaged house, owner was away, but dog was inside in its cage, so a neighbor was able to cut the cage to get the dog out safely. Anxious to see the 10 pm news which is just starting, to see what all happened. I do not think anyone was badly hurt....thank God!

Dee,maybe some tornado sounding drink for tomorrow???? Hope everyone is having a safe night!

    Hugs!

Jaybird, glad your little Lucy is doing better. As for "what do they eat out there" maybe we don't want to know!

E, glad you stopped by and that you are keeping busy! Kids have a way of doing that to ya! And please come back and remind us of your surgery, so we can all join in at the hospital with you.

Junie, me thinks I'll stay on the ground with you. Darrell wanted to do Hot Air Baloon in Hawaii, not sure if they even do that there, I didn't see any...but I told him, I just couldn't. Not really a fear of heights, just plain ole skeered!

Kathy, glad you and your family are safe. Tornadoes are a scary thing. They had tornado warning in Phoenix!!!! Can you believe that one? It finally snowed here, still coming down. We currently have 4"......but in town, say 30 miles away, has 4' so far.

HD, cracking me up as usual! "Fly me to the moon Alice" LMAO

Kathy, I found you a tornado drink....but you better only have ONE. Looks pretty wicked!

    1 oz whiskey
    1 oz rum
    1 oz Tequila
    1 oz vodka
    2 oz Coca-Cola
    1/2 tbsp sugar
    3 ice cubes

Mix everything except cola, sugar and ice in a glass. Stir in the sugar, add ice cubes, and pour in coca-cola. Stir three times.

wahini--Holy Cow!  And I don't mean curageous older women, although that obviously fits, too.  I'm so glad your DD is ok, I take it other than no power and rattled nerves there's no damage to her home/family?  Whooo, boy, give me Maine weather any day--at least I get a day's notice, often more, of incoming blizzards, nor'easters, snow storms, and the rare hurricane. With tornados you get, what, a few minutes warning?  I'd be afraid to go to sleep at night!

I propose a drink just for you today, wahine--the Montana Tornado:

            5 shots vodka
5 shots Jack Daniel's® Tennessee whiskey
            5 shots gin
            5 shots 1800® Tequila
            5 oz 7-Up® soda

Pour all ingredients into a mason jar, and stir.

junie--I'm afraid of heights, too, so I'll join you on the ground supervising the post-landing bar and buffet set up!  I love to go to amusement parks, and used to go regularly with my cousin, her husband and a few others.  They all LOVED the rollercoasters and other "go quickly from high to low" rides.  I stayed on the ground.  Someone has to be able to identify the bodies, after all! They'd all go off on a ride taking a chance on death, and I'd get a cup of coffee or a cold drink, depending on the time of day, and sit and people watch and be just as happy as they were!

Hi gals - Kathy, so glad your DD and her family are ok! Man, that's scary, I hate tornados - at least the ones found in nature - the ones in glasses actually sound pretty good.

Thanks for the well-wishes too. Sorry I don't get to stop in the HTL as often as I'd like, but my youngest has a fever & is home from school today, so I'm here early.

And I think I'll hang out on the ground with the balloon-avoiders too - just not my cup of tea. What shall we have for the buffet? Perhaps the firemen should be on-call in case the hot flashes get to be too much - let's hope they have their hoses at the ready...

Cheers to all - have a great weekend, xo, E (the other one)

Hi all...thanks for all those yummy tornado sounding drinks!! If I am typing a bit crooked....well, those drinks were pretty powerfull! Have not looked at the paper yet...DD called (still no power) and reminded me that they are ok...because I guess the pics in the paper look pretty scary. Apparently all the damage was right around them...just a block away....friends have trees that crushed cars, some homes are damaged, power lines down all over, tall trees were even still stuck in power lines, debris all over, her street sign bent over, etc. Several injuries, but apparently not life threatening. Guess if their power is not restored today, we will have a housefull tonight! YES NM, tornadoes ARE scary...never have them in Hawaii, so I had to get used to them here, and give them tons of RESPECT....you DO take cover! However the county is so big, the newscasts try to pinpoint where it should hit, this one however just came up quickly...totally unexpected...glad I put the tv on right away when the sirens came on, as it was already formed, and hit my DDs area just a couple of minutes later. Thank you girls, for all your concern!!!

Looks like there might still be a place for me on that hot air balloon! I love them. Don't think they do that in Hawaii Lori....so many tall mountains. We did that in AZ...you all have the perfect place for it there....so many open flat areas...funny thing though is that my DH is very afraid of heights, but was surprising me with that trip as he knew I would love it. Of course the day b4, they had an accident where some people died when their hot air balloon malfunctioned (in AZ of course)...I thought he would cancel, but we went ahead and did it. Was a very calm ride, I think all the operators were a little wary that day! I was hanging over the side taking pics, while my poor DH was trying NOT to look down, and stayed in the middle! The champagne is nice at the end, but sounds like junie is having the TT's make a nice breakfast buffet for us after the ride!

    Cheers to calm, serene weather!!!!

    Kathy

Where are the TT Tenders? I need a drink, quick!  Anything, anything at all, whatever is closest and strongest!

I just talked with the admin at my PS office.  She's going to call the BS office and start the scheduling process for my recon.  I should have a date for my recon next summer by the end of next week.  I have been so afraid something would come up that would prevent me having a recon, but now that is less likely.  All of a sudden it feels very, very real.  Now I'm jumping at every sound waiting for the phone to ring, almost as bad as waiting for the biopsy results almost 3 years ago.

Ok, obviously this day is shot as far as productivity goes.  So I might as well have a drink--it might make the waiting easier?  Why am I getting so wound up about getting a date that is still almost 6 months away, anyway?  Ah, Pants, what are you bringing me?  A Montana Tornado, F-5 strength?  And do I see one in each hand?  Are both for me?  Ah, I didn't know it was 2 for 1 day today.  The timing is just right.  What's that?  The 2 for 1 day is in honor of me today?  How sweet!  Bring 'em on boys!

{{Native}} - I'll join you in a Double F5 and wait with you. I can totally understand how getting a date on the calendar would make you jumpy (because I'm there too!) - but it is progression, moving forward with the plan, if you will.  Hope it's happy nerves for you!  Just don't get too jumpy if you're going up in the balloon.  xo, E
