Wow - what a (crappy for most?) week! Is it over yet??? Snow and cold and more snow and more cold and head colds and surgeries - oh, my!Yell

I'm just in a continuous cycle of hot flash hell. I'm usually cold and have to layer up but then I have these hot flashes and get all red in the face and my back gets all sweaty (eewww) and then I get cold again and then I'm just cold and sweaty. I give up. Can't sleep, and actually alcohol makes me sleep better (I've taken notes and it's true) but I shouldn't be drinking all the time so that, too, is an issue. Add to that the jetlag and I'm a mess. Surprisingly though I'm not emotional. I'm fairly even keeled with this sudden loss of estrogen. Or, maybe I'm just too drunk to notice? Undecided  (j/k)

Avery is faring well, having her own 'menopause' - she fans herself (mimicking me) and says in her cute 3 1/2 year old way "I'm having a hot flash" which then cracks me up and I begin to wonder if being an old(er) mom really is a good thing or a bad thing.

I'm 'stuck' in Madrid. Was supposed to be here for only one day but due to a flight cancellation we get to stay (involuntarily of course) an extra day which they only told us about AFTER we took off so that sucked and many of us had plans which are now screwed up. BUT at least I have a job, right? Money mouth

Some of the crew is meeting at 6 p.m. (in a few minutes) for beers and I'm all in for that as I don't have to get up and go to work tomorrow. I don't even have to get up if I don't want to! Tongue out I'll make sure I have a beer or three for you gals, okay? Cheers!

    Good morning to you's!

Jaybird, too funny about Avery having at hot flash..LOL I hope you had a fun time out with the crew last night. NM, I wish I could skip Mondays and Fridays :) Not much to talk about just work, eat sleep, you know the drill. I will need rehab for TheraFlu withdrawl after my cold is gone, I have found out by a reliable source that it has meth in it....LMAO

    Keep your peckers up !

    Dee~

P.S. K-Have you left for HI yet?

MORNING -- I FEEL GOOD! Came home from town, had a beer, 10mg of valium and in bed at 7:30. Only woke up 6 times! I feel good and rested now.

NM, I have not been to Maine. Would love to see that side of the country, one of these days. I hate not having sunshine. That is one of the great things about living in AZ. I spent 40 yrs in Michigan, we would go litterally months without any sunshine. If I can't get these hot flashes under control, I may have to try the Effexor. I hate taking medication! I do Arimidex and take clonadine (sp) for my hot flashes. Prior to taking that, it was nothing for me to have a hot flash every 15 minutes. On the week ends, when I am up and doing stuff, I hardly have any at all. Unfortunately, my job requires me to sit at a desk, in front of a computer all day!

Jaybird, that is just too sweet about Avery. Would love to see her doing that. There is nothing more precious than little ones. And being a mom is special, no matter what age! Now when she is 15, 16, 17.......you might think differently! As for my clothes, I have gotten rid of all my long sleeve shirts and pull over sweaters. I have to wear short sleeves, and then some sort of blazer, long sleeve button up shirt or sweater over that, so when I have my personal summer, I can remove clothing to cool down, and then put it back on.

Dee, I  think you will be fine! As long as the stuff is working, making you feel a little bit better, and helping you sleep..........who cares what it has in it! I think Kathy is leaving Tuesday, so she will start packing on Monday!!!!  "Keep your peckers up!"  ???? Where the hell did that come from? Must be the meth.

Working a bit on the town today, heading out for Vegas tomorrow. Work Work Work, Walk Walk Walk! Will play a bit tomorrow nite when we get there.

    TGIF, Lori

Morning gals! Had two of our g'kids overnight, and they are the really sweet ones, so we have been enjoying them. Prob is, diet went out the window as of last night as I made them sweet desserts reminiscent of the 50's, and then micro s'mores! Oh my!!! Right now DH is making us banana pancakes...but healthy as we use whole wheat flour, etc. Having a blast, but TIRED!!! LOL

Lori, My dr said Effexor would prob cause me to gain 10-15 lbs, as that seemed to be what happens, so I had to nix that one. Have you thought of Neurontin? That works for a lot of gals, and actually decreased my hot flashes, but I didn't like feeling like I was in lala land, so got off it. Hope you have a good trip to Vegas!!!

Jaybird, Hope your time in Madrid went well....and you had a nice happy hour with your crew! I can't imagine having hot flashes with your job, as you have to be presentable at all times..yike! How precious is that, with Avery mimicking your hot flashes!!! So cute. I keep fans handy....in my purse, and around the house...they help a lot. Also, my DD got me a bandana thing you wrap around your neck, with an insert that gets frozen...that helps too. She got it from Amazon. I even dread long plane rides, ESPECIALLY when my DH is not along, as when you get suddenly red, flushed, and start fanning yourself, it DOES cause funny looks from people sitting near you! And when I leave Tues, he is staying home to care for the dogs, so I will have to "wing it" alone. I can only visit HI when it is cooler, since my parents live near the beach where it is hotter, and no a/c! Not even at the beach condo on the other side of the island.

Happy Friday everyone!!!! TGIF to all you working gals,

    Kathy

TGIFF !!!   (...two "F's" are not a typo!)   What a crazy week and I'm sure glad it is almost over!  Pants and Jocsk have had a hard time keeping me supplied in ML--they had to call Hunk for some back up!  Snow in forecast for later today; hopefully not much and maybe it will be the last little blast of winter.

Jaybird--what's the best beer in Madrid?  Hope you enjoyed a few and safe travels home.

Everyone meet me out at the pool later and we'll drink until this week is history!

    Huggssss to ALL!

Gawd - we were out ALL day, went to Segovia. If any of you are on Facebook I do post pics there so be my 'friend' and you can see them too. I just can't seem to post pics here.

The 'local' beer is San Miguel which is on tap everywhere. There are others but that's a good one. I usually bring back beer but not this trip. I'm actually bringing back some cheese because I stopped at the butcher/cheese shop for a few items and was starving and the cheese was SO fresh I just had to get some - yum! Am enjoying a crappy (well, drinkable but not great) boxed Shiraz from Australia and relaxing, resting my tired feet.

I hope all of you are safe since it's still extremely winter just about everywhere! Cheers!

    Hi ladies!

We had our follow-up appointment today and they took the last of the drains out! Everything is healing well and my PS wants to see me again in a month (unless there are problems).

I know I'm going to miss things people have said, but I have been reading and following along and hoping the best for all! I'm mostly hanging about hogging Pants and Jocks (glad to see you brought more backup for them).

Jaybird what is your name on Facebook? I'd love to "friend" you.

Lori, I'm on Gabapentin for my hot flashes. I'm not entirely sure it is making things better since I still get them, but I think it helps. I was told that I can increase my dosage more if I want to and that the hysterectomy may make them stronger. I see my breast onc in early March again.

Someone mentioned not being happy with their foobs. Am I correct in thinking those are implants? May I ask what is wrong with them? I thought that option was so good because the results were more consistent. Now I'm very confused (or that could be the drugs). I'm so happy with my results I can't imagine why anyone would do a different option.

Jocks can you please freshen my drink, bring the massage oil and turn on the curling gold medal game. I'm cheering for Canada, of course!

Editing to add - I noticed some of the cherry trees blooming when we were on the way home from the Dr today. Have hope, spring is coming!

Hi Connie, Glad to hear the drains are GONE....boy, isn't that a big relief...that is the worst part, IMO! Gabapentin is the same as Neurontin...which is what I had been on too, but by the time I worked up to about 1200(mg?), then it worked well for the hot flashes, but made me loopy. Guess I could've stayed with a lesser dose, but it didn't work for me until I upped it. Oh, how nice to see the cherry blossoms getting ready...those are so beautiful!

Had a couple of ShockTop beers tonight at TGIF, with dinner, after dropping the g'kids at home. SO TIRED....but it was fun. Now to recuperate!!! LOL.

Oh, and I am SO excited..I finally found time to go to Asheville and get my 3D nipple tats, with Earleen, at the beginning of June. We might even get to meet her for dinner...she sounds soooooo nice! And it will be nice to be FINISHED with the recon!!! Yahoo!!!!!

    Bottoms Up,

    Kathy

Kathy, so glad you got to have so much fun with the g'kids. I wish I could see mine more. I saw that video on the tats. Didn't I see at the end, that she even does it for FREE? Forget the effexor if it causes weight gain. I've already gained an extra 20, don't need any more!

Connie, glad to see you up and about and feeling good.

Heading out this morning, taking my laptop with me, but will probably only log in while driving.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

YUMMMMM.....Thanks for the mimosas Dee! I think I will take a pitcher of them.....and relax by the pool.

Lori, Yes, Earleen does the 3D tatts for free, in honor of her mom, who she lost due to bc. And she does such excellent work! I can't wait to have that done and show my dr. But she is such a nice, caring person, that I am anxious to meet her. I have been writing to her on and off for about 1 1/2 yrs, since I had to wait for some laser stuff to be done first. Looks like a 6 hr drive, but when I did the route yesterday on mapquest found out I-40 is closed due to rock slides, and the detour adds another hour! Reserved a nice B&B w/ whirlpool for the 1st night....since I'll be "out of commission" the 2nd night, will go somewhere cheaper...LOL. I am so excited about this! Have a safe trip to Vegas, and also hope you can fit in some fun! How long is the drive?

Dee, Lori, Junie, HunkyD, Jaybird, CAZ, Connie, CasinoGirl, both Erika's, NM, and everyone else, here's wishing you all a great weekend!

Hugs to all, and lets get this party started!!!

WOW......that massive earthquake in Chile is now sending a tsunami towards Hawaii, and they will evacuate the coastal areas of Hawaii at daybreak....my parents live by the beach. I hope the residents heed the warnings as it has been awhile since a tidal wave has hit there!

K - I just was reading about the earthquake in Chile and now tsunami warnings in Hawaii. I sure hope nothing happens and it is just a warning for the residents to evacuate just in case. I will be watching this one closely throughout the weekend. In the mean time I am ready for a party! Laughing

Yes, we need a big PARTY! Maybe a "Go Away Tsunami" Party! The mayor of Honolulu was just on tv, and right now they think the brunt of it will be on the Big Island and not Oahu, but you never know. I just hope those "stoopid a$$es" will not go surfing...so many times they like to brag about the big tidal waves, and right now the lifeguards are trying to evac the beaches. I think the airports are going to close also, as the one in Honolulu is on the coast. Glad I am going on Tues, and not today!!

Wow, I am listening to the news also.  Tsunami is supposed to hit there in a few hours.  Glad you aren't traveling today Kathy.  I guess a party is in order for later!  Count me in!  HD

I grew up on the ocean (Atlantic) and have a great respect for what a simple storm wave can do, I can't imagine a tsunami.  I hope the evacuations go smoothly and turn out to be nothing more than a practice run for everyone.

I am celebrating--no more medical appointments until May!  2 whole months of NO MEDICAL APPOINTMENTS!  Yeah!  This is the first time in 3 years that I have had more than 6 weeks between appointments of one kind or another.  On the other hand, that 2 months is going to go by soooo fast, and then the recon will come up so fast after that.  Oh well, I'm going to enjoy the 'freedrom' while I have it.

Connie--HOORAY for getting the drains out!  I remember how relieved I was to get the one and only drain out that I had after the mast, I'm not looking forward to having 4 after recon, however, it won't be forever and I'll have better equipment for dealing with them this time.

NM, make yourself some comfort food or your favorite drink.  You are certainly entitled to have a little quiet time with the hound dog.  Relax...chill, or take a pill if needed.  Sleep is very good medicine.  I have found that out myself after all my crappola.  Hope you feel better tomorrow.  HD

YAY.....looks like Hawaii did not have any damage from the tsunami. Thanks everyone, for your concern. My parents road was the dividing point for evacuation, so I doubt they would have evacuated, but I wish they would have! Just like I thought, those surfers were out there....they say the tsunami wave moves at 500mph...so could have snuck up on them awfully fast! SO, guess I better start packing, so I can get there!

    Pau Hana Time!

I spent the afternoon lounging in the pool and watching the big screen tv--waiting for Hawaii to get washed away--at least that's how CNN made it sound!   Jocks and Pants have been busy all afternoon but one of them better get out here quick and pick up all my empty buckets--someone's going to trip over them--oohhh, and bring me another full bucket, please!

Glad there was no damage; hope that is true all across the Pacific until the "wave" dies out.  I'm going to continue to float lazily around the pool and watch Wahine pack like a mad woman!!!

Jaybird - I love the story about your daughter.  That is hilarious!!!

I feel so fat.  I tried on some t-shirts at Target tonight and got a glimpse of my back side.  Yuck. My arms look flabby, by back side and butt look FAT!  Ughhh...  my DH laughed and said I'm being over dramatic.  I have to get back into shape - or a better shape than I'm in!

So, my OB said I might have to get a hysterectomy.  She definitely needs to remove a cyst I have, but it's not an emergency.  Aggh....  I'm so over all these tests and surgeries!

I need a drink - maybe not a few to save calories!  LOL!!!

NM, enjoy your "NO APPTS" months. It is nice not to have to go so much. I go every 3 months for now!

Kathy, I tried to call you last night...but think I ended up losing my connection. Put some news on as soon as I could to check on HI. Everything was ok! WHEW!

Not much time, need to finish getting ready, have a little breakfast and get to walking!

KK, I hear ya on the weight! Doesn't matter what I do, nothing helps. I guess it is because the weight gain is from meds and not food!

Jaybird, thanks for being my friend on FB! HA HA you guys, I get to see Avery!!!!!!

OH, welcome PB. Forgive HD, she really didn't mean to call our lounge a "hole". HD, you were thinking of the Lakeside Bar and Grill! Our lounge here is really the TITS!

    Gotta Run,

    Love ya all

I'm glad the tsunami wave effect in Hawaii was anticlimactic.  I was amused with CNN's coverage--all that "any minute now disaster will strike" only to find out that there had already been 2 waves and they hadn't noticed anything except some mud in a river!  While the evacuation had to have been a major inconvenience to everyone, I'm glad they did it--good 'practice' if you will, and there was no way of knowing what would happen.

I've still got cabin fever, despite putting some seeds in to start yesterday and cleaning house with as many windows open as I could stand.  I really, really do not like mud season, and it has arrived with a vengeance.  Oh, well,  this too shall pass.  Time to start over-planning for recon this summer.

Welcome, PB22--hope you like variety in your drinks--there are soooo many drinks to try here!  It could be a full time job just  tasting every offering the boys create and we think up!  My favorite hangout is the hot tub, it's just past the mimosa fountain.  On the other side of the hot tub is the raspberry martini fountain (my personal favorite).  There are floats of all types for the pool, you'll find lots of us floating around the pool on any given day.  From time to time the pool gets a tad rowdy and splashy, but Jocks and Pants quickly get all the drinks covered up when that starts!  We usually keep the splashing on the other end of the pool from the swim up bar.  You'll notice that all of us who are barefoot walk rather slowly--it's not that we're all snookered (although that is a distinct possibility) but to avoid stubbing toes on the buckets of iced beverages placed within arm's reach of those whose preferred beverage is beer.  I'm not a fan of beer but I've gathered that there is every imaginable type and brand of beer available here for the asking. There are a variety of indoor venues, too, but I haven't spent much time in them just yet, being winter in Maine and being sun deprived I tend to stay by the pool.  If you don't find something that suits you just let the boys know, it takes them about 3 minutes to set up a new spot for occupancy!

Funny post Lori....love that our lounge is the "TITS"!!! Yeah, I was so glad too that no damage was done in HI...was in touch with my classmates too.

Jaybird, would love to see Avery, but I don't do Facebook, or Twitter either. Wish you could find a way to post a pic here!

Kittycat, I do LOVE the diet I found...first time one has ever worked, where I could eat foods I LIKE!!! Will prob be off of it mostly, in HI though...although I will try my best not to overdo there. I figure if I can lose 5 or 6 lbs a month, by Sept I will be in shape for my 60th b'day!

Yeah, I did get my hair all chopped off..it was soooo long...way down my back. DH really likes it, now is worried about me being in HI without him....LOL! Anyway, who would even want to go anyplace but our beloved HTL??? Nice and sunny here today, and Pants and Jocks put out a wonderful Sunday brunch for us...the mimosa and martini fountains are overflowing, and they even have some Irish Coffee made up for us. YUMMMMMMMMMMMMMM! Looks like buckets of chilled ML's on the table, and Bloody Mary's too....what could be better than this????

Sunny, Silly, Let's All Get SLOSHED Sunday,

    Kathy

NM, thanks for the concern too...I was writing my post as you were, and missed reading yours! Glad you described the HTL for our newest bar buddy! It really is a utopia...and all are certainly welcome!

Happy Sunday everyone! Popping in to take up my usual residence on a pool float. I think a raspberry martini sounds really good right now.  NM, are you still looking for something to cure cabin fever? How about Absinthe?  Heard it's the stuff hallucinations are made of, but it's never done that to me. You can borrow my sugar spoon if you wish :)

Stay warm & well everyone. Kathy, happy to hear your parents are well & wishing you safe travels. Welcome PB22, pull up a float & stay a while.
