how about drinking?

Goldie - that is so nice of you! I'll look on Picasa and try the copy and paste and see what one earth happens. So if there is some odd picture that suddenly appears - do I have to fess up and take credit or blame? Oh wait what am I thinking - it was just the Jager Bomb talking!

I guess nothing appeared did it? It said I couldn't copy using Mozilla so I went to internet explorer and tried it and then tried it emailing to myself and copying it and pasting but I'm guessing nothing showed up. I'll have to figure this out, I'm sure I'm just missing doing something.....

Stanzie - maybe we aren't allowed to post graphics cuz of the Jager and all...0
-
YEAH MELANIE!!!!!!!!!! I am so happy for you! I can't wait for the day they give me a tiara and balloons. If you need a bmx, I am here for you!
Lori - love the Jager Bombs! That's one of my hubby's favorites!!!

Astorm - Love the story about the firemen! I always get excited when they go grocery shopping the same time as me!

Good morning everyone! Want to pass on some GOOD NEWS....my dad's tumor is B9....YAY!!!!!! However he is not out of the woods yet, as there is an infection they have not figured out, so more blood work next week. But soooooo glad the other is ok. Thanks so much for all the prayers and concern....please still keep him in your thoughts. Very much appreciated!
And Stanzie, how is your son doing today? I hope he has recovered, or is well on the way to a full recovery! You must be worn out! If we do get to meet on Sat in Atlanta, that would be so neat!
Heather, and Gail.....yup those firemen always do look so good, and so buff.....must be a requirement for the job...LOL. Gail, what a scare about your DD's accident, and SO THANKFUL that no one was hurt!!! Cars can always be replaced, although a hassle. My DD was the same age when she totalled her car with a semi that was going about 65mph. HE thought he was on top of her car and had killed her...was so scary. Like you, I heard the ambulances, then a friend knocked on the door, the news said accident with injuries and medflight, but THANK GOD she was ok (and did not have to go to hosp), and her sister did not ride with her that day to school, as that side was pushed all the way in. We had lost her dad the month before, and I know he was her guardian angel that day! I could not have dealt with another loss, as I was deep in grief at that time.
Hot, hot day here today......but pretty skies and sunny. Hope everyone is doing well, and NM we are anxiously awaiting hearing from you. Hope you get out of the hospital today and are doing well. You know we have been drinking for you, right? Hard job, but someone had to do it. Take care!
Kathy

Astorm, what a scare that was! Sure glad no one was hurt. Did your firemen look like ours?
Stanz, you should be able to see your photo in the message box before posting it. You can also use the preview button to look as well.
LOL as Kitty, for shopping with the firemen.
Kathy, have you heard anything about dad? Hoping things are not too bad.
NM, thinking of you and hoping you are resting and beginning to heal and can check in with us soon.
Dee, miss you. You and NM are much better at drink of the day than I am. I was hoping NobleAnna would come to the rescue!
Drink of the day - Flaming Moe
3 oz. vodka
1.5 oz. Kirschwasser
1.5 oz. Creme de Cassis
1.5 oz. Blackberry Brandy
1 tsp. 151 rum0 -
Kathy you were posting while I was hunting down a drink! Glad to hear about your dad. I did not know it involved a tumor! Glad to hear it was B9 and hope they can find that darn infection.
Stanzie, I forgot about your son...my bad. I too hope he is feeling better. Kids can bounce back pretty easily. At least easier than most adults!

Lori, Great choice...."Flaming Moe" (or Flaming anyone)...thinking of our firemen!!! Perfect choice! Yes, first we were told there were several "nodules" on the brain scan, mentioned "tumor" yesterday when they told him it was B9. Still not up to par, but feeling a little better every day it seems.

Kathy = Thank goodness!! Now you can really enjoy your vacation.
Sean is doing so much better. Still has pain but he is walking and reading and talking but not very hungry yet. His pediatrician called yesterday afternoon and was very upset the hospital didn't run more tests. She was also surprised they didn't at least give him fluids - so will check back in with her but I think he is now in recovery mode to whatever it is!
More later......

wahine - I loved reading your post about dads, they do have a special place in our hearts. So glad to hear DH's stress test is not too bad, what a relief. I'm still hoping the best for your dad. Wow, sounds really hot over there, 100+?, hope you stay cool.
kittycat - I'm sorry you lost your dad 2 years ago. Wow, you have 5 cats! We once had 5 guinea pigs. How is everything else going for you? Hope you are doing well.
Stanzie - I'm an "orphan" too, as I lost my mom 14 years ago and dad last year. I don't have kids so I think the bond with DH is extra special. I'm sorry to hear all your son has been through and glad to hear he's feeling better by now.
AStorm - wish I knew which beach town in No Cal you are in. I'm from CA and lived in No Cal for years, I used to go over to Bodega Bay a lot and sometimes drive up the north coast. It is so beautiful over there. Also went to Jenner a lot and occasionally south to Monterey. We also lived in the central coast in Cayucos for a year...there are so many great places for wine tasting...oh that sounds so fun! I love your story about how you got two cats and no rats. That is so neat you painted your nails pink, that's a great idea. BTW the cognac flavored lipstick was inspired by Lancom. For years I've been using their "champagne" color and I love their lipstick because it lasts long, feels good and has a smell that doesn't make me gag. Anyway, they also have a "cognac" color and I took poetic license to make it flavorful too.
goldie - I enjoyed your first day of summer drinks and loved the pot of gold for NM. Glad to hear you got the rattler and he didn't get you. I have a friend who got bit on the toe by a young one that had gotten in the house and she had to be hospitalized. I used to live around a lot of rattlers but we don't have them here at the coast. We do have a lot of black widows though. The Jager Bomb knocked me on my tush (read below) thanks for that!!
ConnieS - So good to hear from you. I was glad to see you on the bus and I'm excited about your new school adventure. Hope it's going well this week and tons of fun!
junie - Wow, what a story about your trip. Your mental retreat to cyber world made me laugh...isn't it nice to have an escape? The carrot cake sounded wonderful.
Lady_M - Gigantic congratulations to you for finishing chemo! Sounds like the pot of gold drink is in order for you too! I'm so happy for you. As one still waiting at the gate to start I am envious too and can't wait to get to the end myself. I'm wishing you the best for the BRCA testing. Congrats again, what a huge hurdle!!!
NM - Bin thinkin' of you and wishing all the best!
So I thought it was the Jager Bomb that hit me yesterday, I was out of it all day. Then about evening I noticed the AxLD surgery area where they took the drain out had become all puffy, hot and red, so yep, it was starting to get infected. So hadda call my doc and run into town last night to get antibiotics (I'm grateful he got the script in right away). Today it's looking a lot better already, so I have high hopes of getting past this last surgery. Then on the oncotype deal, well, DH and I met with our beloved oncologist (she truly is wonderful) on Monday after JP left and GET THIS turns out someone in pathology sent the wrong sample for testing to California. So now I'm back to waiting for those results again. Even so, we are thinking that I'll start CMF on 6/29, what the heck...Course now I'm on antibiotics for ten days so I have no clue if that will affect chemo start...I'm glad I'm already crazy or I would go insane. Cheers to you gorgeous gals, and I hope you are having a wonderful week!!!

Oh, yeah, goldie...great choice FLAMING MOE and FIREMEN!!!!!!

Wow am I glad to see this thread! I've had a few sips of wine and have not felt guilty for it. But everyone has an opinion on what one should do during this process. I have to say I know they mean well but it is my body. I'm glad to see I'm not alone in enjoying a drink.
0 -
StacyA - I highly recommend the Flaming Moe!
goldie - you asked for photos, so here is my "before" chemo look:
Like I said, I've ordered a lot of cosmetics to help...

Welcome to the HTL Stacy!! Pull up a barstool and stay awhile (or jump in the pool and swim over to the swim-up bar)...glad you joined us~!
Beans, AARRGGHHHH.......so sorry to hear about JP leaving an infection behind...boy you would think he would go peacefully! But glad you got the antibiotics quickly, and are on the mend! Oh, and in case you can't drink on antib's, let me know and I will TRY to have doubles tonight so I can drink for you....j/k, but really I am not sure if you can drink on them. Hope you can start chemo soon....what a roller coaster!!!!
Bottoms Up,
Kath

So are the majority of you able to drink while on chemo? That's what I wonder the most. I am hoping I can get my port put in early next week so I can enjoy a few cocktails over the holiday weekend. I start chemo right after the holiday.
Thanks,
Stacy

I didn't drink during chemo simply because I couldn't handle the smell. But I made up for it durning radiation. I read somewhere that red wine was actually good for you during radiation-something about the effects of red wine on our blood and helping with the burns you get from radiation. Sounds good to me.
0 -
wahine - the doc didn't say anything about not drinking and the pamphlet from the pharmacist just says to limit alcoholic beverages. So I guess if I have ten Jager Bombs instead of the usual 20 that would be limited?? LOL, just kidding. You are still welcome to have doubles tonight :-)
StacyA - I'm not sure about drinking on chemo as I haven't quite got up to the plate yet. I'm a wine sipper and I'm thinking that if I sip a little here and there it couldn't hurt, but I don't know if I'll feel like it or if doctors would say it was okay. I think I start on 6/29.
Now I'm off to the pool and to the swim up bar for a beer.
0 -
miloryder - oh, red wine, that's the best and I'm glad to hear it's healthy durings rads, that'll be coming up for me after chemo.
0 -
glad I found this thread too!! I am a vodka girl and that flaming moe drink looks great..
I drink vodka and club normally. Usually drink on my off chemo week and to be perfectly honest, the booze stops my nauseau...so don't care what anyone says I drink..hey I have no hair, no boobs I can do what I want
0 -
njbhwgirl - yeah, vodka, I like vodka martinis and I think I'll have that at the pool bar instead of beer...you are so right, we can do what we want!

Beanius, I start chemo the week of 7/5. How long is your treatment? I find out the specifics of my chemo next Tuesday when I met with the oncologist and review my path report. I think all the suggestions of drinking on the off week sound lovely!
0 -
Beanius-actually ANY wine is good for me but I could rationalize that at least the red was helping me. What is your treatment schedule? I did 4 rounds of A/C then 4 rounds of Taxol and followed up with 7 weeks of radiation that I just finished last Friday!
0 -
As of Monday, my chemo schedule is 6 cycles of CMF, so it will be 6 months. Day 1 and day 8 of a 28 day cycle will be Methotrexate and 5-Fluorourcil and Day 1 through day 14 will by Cytoxan pills, then 14 days off. As I've found out, everything is subject to change. I was supposed to start TC June 3, then June 22, now it's CMF June 29. Who knows what till it happens. Then whenever chemo is over I get 6 weeks rads, then 5 years tamoxifen. All this makes me thirsty!
StacyA - keep us posted on what chemo you're getting. We can jump in together and hang out at the swim up bar.
miloryder - CONGRATULATIONS!!! Whoopie for finishing chemo and rads. One of the other tx options we've talked about it the A/C followed by taxol. I understand that is supposed to really kick the bugger. I'm so happy you're done, sounds like champagne is in order. Do you have any other tx or are you done done? You must be ecstatic to be through with all that!!

Wow! This place is hoppin! Welcome to Miloryder and Stacy and njbhwgirl. The drinks here at the HTL have a no-calorie, no-hangover option. Personally, I defend my choice to have a glass of red wine in the evening and have heard that Pinot Noir (in particular) has cancer fighting phenols. Not sure what your onco would say about wine+chemo since I haven't done any chemo myself. I find the drinks here to be the perfect solution whether I'm in the mood to mix one, or be served by our gorgeous waiters (if you scroll back many pages you can meet them). Before finding this place I was too phobic to jump in a pool and now here I am at the swim-up bar toasting my buddies! Goldie has designed a special percotini fountain for those of us recovering from surgery (or other bad days) too.
Kathy -- GREAT to hear the good news about your dad. Scary story about your DD. I just hold my breath every time the phone rings these days. Wish we could put my DD in suspension for a few years but I guess it doesn't work that way!
Lori - all firemen are good firemen. Ours have the added benefit of not being embarrassed if we gawk We have a fire station near our house... maybe I should take my Flaming Moe over that direction just in case I need some help with it.
Stanzie -- hope your son is doing better today and they get to the bottom of this soon.
Beanie - ick on the infection. Maybe it was the beer -- vodka's probably better. I've heard rum is good too but remember I am not a doctor. LOL I'm near Santa Cruz but I work all over the place (Monterey today).
Cheers to all!

wahine - that is a crazy story about your daughter's accident! How scary for you!
Beanius - you must be up to your ears with this medical stuff. An infection and now they sent the wrong samples?? I don't get it, can't they FedEx your actual samples and rush this oncotype test??? I really hope you can start your chemo next week.
Lori - love the Flaming Moe! Looks tasty!!!
Well, my headache went away and I feel much much better today. I even helped cook dinner and did some dishes. I will say that I lost 3.5 lbs since I started chemo. Maybe it's the alcohol I'm not drinking??? Or the small portions I'm eating??? Or both???

Opening up word! OMG, word must be getting out about The HTL. For you new girls, it stands for The Hot Tatties Lounge. And a great big welcome to all of you!
Stacy and NJgirl, I agree with you "its my body". I don't remember drinking much during chemo, but like someone else said, just didn't feel like it. And I think you will find some docs that say "no drinking" and others that say "its ok". Of course in monderation!
Beans, ur not an orphan any more...you have us! They sure have put you through the ringer on getting you started on chemo, and messing with your tests! And now an infection! That chemo you mention is a new one on me, as well as the schedule. Cytoxan pills? Methotrexate is a drug my husband was on for his Rheumitoid Arthritus, and never heard of Fluorourcil! That is a silly picture you posted, you must be related to HD, as she often talks about flying around on her broom!
Lady M, glad you are done with chemo. What a huge a relief that is, eh? Just doesn't seem likes it's ever gonna end. Having the champagne fountain put out for a celebration.
Stanz, glad that little man is starting to feel better. Nothing worse than when its something with your kids.
Astorm, I think credit goes to Dee for the Percotini Fountain...or it could have been HD. Don't remember...but it wasn't me, so I can't take credit for that one. How is DD after the accident? I hope shaken up! But that's all. I know you said she was ok.
Heather, try not to lose too much weight. You want to keep your body strong, it has a tough fight ahead. And we all know, just how tough you are.
Stacy, most of us are done with chemo or didn't have it. Lady M just finished, as if you couldn't tell! Heather just started and Beans is trying to get started. But don't let that stop you from coming to The HTL. It's a great escape and the gals here are the best. And the guys are ....well.....ummmm..........HOT! We've also been known to put a little sumpin sumpin in the IV along with chemo....a little vodka maybe, or whatever you like!
For you vodka girls, drink of the day....Seems appropriate "To Cancer"
It looks yummy, but sure sounds wicked!
Adios Mother F**ker
Ingredients
2 oz. Sweet and Sour Mix
1/2 oz. Blue Curacao
1/2 oz. Gin
1/2 oz. Light Rum
1/2 oz. Vodka
Club Soda (Chilled) Instructions Pour all the ingredients except the Club Soda into chilled glass filled with ice cubes. Top with soda. Stir gently. If anyone else wants to jump in with a drink of the day....feel free! Great place to look is www.barnonedrinks.com Thats where I go.I took a video of the Old West Town. We still have lots to do, but this is the latest. We got a new video camera, High Def, about the size of a pack of cards for like $60! I love it! And its not all tidy and cleaned up, so pay no attention to that!NM, thinking of you and waiting to hear something. I hope Sadie is behaving herself there!0 -
Good Morning Lounge Lizards!
AStorm, I know! It is SO scary raising kids, and it sounds like your older DD is trying to give you a lot of gray hair! I was so relieved when both of my DD's got married. My oldest DD had her own home going through college (here), but had a peeping tom...we knew it cause the bushes were trampled that were next to the BR windows on the side of her house...large area like someone had even slept there! Plus he would leave creepy notes on her car. I actually put barbed wire in heaps, on that side of the house (couldn't see it from road), and PRAYED a LOT!!! As soon as both girls were married, I knew if something happened they needed help with, they would call their DH's first...one less worry! I think first you worry about them being safe growing up, then safe (and not pg!) through hs, then to find good spouses. WHEW.....then you can relax a bit.
Heather, Sounds like you are aceing it thru your 1st chemo session!!! I could use the weight loss, but don't want to have to go thru chemo to get it. Maybe a nice side effect though! Hope you continue to do well. When will your mom's new home be ready?
Beans, Sure hope the medical team can get it all together and FINALLY get you started on chemo. Not that it is something everyone aspires to do, but when you know it is needed, then I know you prob want to get it started so you can get it over with! Best of luck with that!
Stanzie, Hope your son is doing well today! Let us know!!!
Welcome, all you new gals.....getting hard to keep up with everyone, but that is how we like it. Lots of buzz around the bar...remember if you don't show up at the HTL, we just might talk about ya...j/k! You will love our "drinks of the day"...always appropriate ones!
Junie, I think I will make plans to come to your B&B....maybe on the 4th....REALLY J/K!!! I know you are swamped with company...you must be an awesome hostess!!!
Well, will wonders never cease....seems like my mom talked my dad into moving here from Hawaii. I am signing a contract on a house right on the lake for them, today . Guess the townhouse here wasn't enough of a "wow" to get him to want to move! I hope and pray they can find what is causing his exhaustion and lethargy, so he can make the move ok. Not sure when.....they already have their tix to OZ from HI, and he was having a big party in HI in Dec, which we already have our plane tix to. It is a gorgeous home, and just down the street from us..the neighbors meet on Fri for Happy Hour by the pool...how cool is that!!!
Lori, As usual, we were posting at the same time...LOL!! I LOVE your drink for today....how appropriate. And such a pretty color...and POTENT!!!! Thank you for coming up with that!
Okole Maluna Fellow Wahines!!!!

My goodness you all are sometimes hard too keep up with - so much going on....
Beanius - so glad you have a wonderful DH. I know you much be ready to get going on the Chemo so it will be over - hope that happens soon.
Kathy - both stories about your daughters - whew! I know you are glad they are grown up and married and safe. But I guess the worring never really ends with kids. Sean is sooooo much better! I guess the antibotics are getting whatever it is. His pediatrician is still a bit concerned so we will continue to watch him. I guess we will really know when the round of antibotics are done.
So Kathy - looking forward to hopefully meeting you and your husband!!! I was thinking since my house is in upheaval from the flood I could get some take out and we could sit on the screen porch or by the pool/ in the pool, if not too hot. If that might work for you all.
And wow to having your parents move! Hope your Dad's energy does perk up!
To all of you on Chemo - I didn't have it either but I know you all will get through it and especially with all the wonderful support here from those who are on the other side of it. I so admire you all. I know how terrified I was of even the thought of chemo but after reading about so many experiences if I had to do it I would be in a much better place and not be as scared. What a wonderful gift of support this forum is.
Happy Thursday to everyone! Back to moving and packing up stuff for hopefully the renovation to begin soon.....

wahine - That is a scary story about your DD, I'm so glad she was okay, that was miraculous and isn't it nice her dad was her guardian angel and your other DD wasn't in the car that day - whew! I was too scared to have kids after worrying so much about my nieces and nephews. I knew I'd be a wreck looking out for my own. You parents are amazingly brave! Good news your folks will be moving close to you, that is so nice.
AStorm - Santa Cruz, Monterey, oh how beautiful...and you probably have fantastic restaurants. One of my biggest complaints with WA is all the restaurants serve bland, boring food. We finally got a good Viet Namese restaurant here and guess where the owners are from? Northern CA! So much flavor!
kittycat - So glad the darn headache stopped, I hate those. I so hope you can keep from losing more weight. Are there any yummy high calorie items that appeal to you? (BTW-There was a time when I was havin' some work prob's that left me without an appetite and losin' weight. It was different from chemo, so I don't know if this will help, but I was able to handle Nutri-grain waffles smothered with butter and maple syrup. It helped to stop the weight loss.)
goldie - Thanks for "adopting" me here. You know I like to be silly as a pink bunny, and I hope I don't go too far to the annoying side of it at times, but the truth is that being here has been very, very healing. I started at rock bottom emotionally with this dx and was literally shaking like a leaf every day. The HTL (and staff), fancy drinks, love and understanding here has brought back my life. Now I can fly around on my broom again (like HD...hope I didn't steal her ride) and cackle my head off at the comedy of medicine while guzzling copious quantities of "Adios Mother F**ker!!" Dats a mighty fine concoction you mixed, yummie!!
Stanzie - So glad you didn't need chemo - way to go! Sounds like there might be light at the end of the tunnel with your house. Best of luck on the reno!
NM - Hope you are doing great and hope to hear from you soon.
Well, I set out to have a glass of wine with dinner last night, but really didn't feel like it, so probably will just sit out the antiB week with some Shirley Temples and let my body heal. Looks like it's all getting better - yeah! To all you lovely lounge ladies I hope you have a blessed rest o' the week. Cheers!
