I don't think I can even do cyber green beer.  Enough to make me want a pint of something good.  I can always go to Buckley's across the street if I get desperate.

Thinking of you Kymm.  You will be fine.

Love "Magical Party Bus".  Reminds me of "Magical Mystery Tour", which I know dates me.

Beans.....you are still at the point where you don't have quite the stamina.  That takes a while, and even now, I know I can sleep more than normal.  I used a lot of energy gel doing cycling events last summer, but came to no harm from pushing myself.

Dragging again this AM, but I think no more than my friend Amanda is.  Not worried about infecting her and her family tonight.

    Really glad Junie is home.

Corned beef dinner will look a bit different than the illustration.  Much leaner, and a mound of thinly sliced potatoes.  I am thinking of roasting the carrots, and the cabbage will be shredded and braised, so will be very green.  Haven't done something like this in a while.

The daffodils I bought yesterday are opening.

I need to get moving.  But did want to check in and wish everyone a "top of the morning"! - Claire

Karen - the DD with the shoe is now 18. I have another who just celebrated her ½ birthday - because 15 ½ means you get your learner's permit and start driving. I guess that's the only ½ that counts until you are 59 ½ and can start drawing from your 401(k).

NM - love the pics! Wish I knew what was coming up next... I need to find myself a position in a CPA firm which is a little scary. The larger offices like to hire yungins fresh out of college cuz they work long hours for no pay... so aside from worrying that no one wants to hire a woman approaching 50, I also have to worry about how I'll make a living since they also frown on moonlighting. I'm hoping to find a parttime gig so I can keep my best clients (the ones who pay me well) but that's probably not gonna happen... I knew that going into this, but I just seem to plod along and everything usually works out fine. Nice that you can go back to patient care and not miss a beat!

Lori - thanks for the Bitch shirt... I'm wearing mine with the smarty pants from Beanie and I'm loading up the Magic Party HTRV and roundin up the bitches.

Chrissy - no passport needed on the bus cuz we travel between time and you won't be missed at home.

Beanie - when the Irish panic, that means they drink all the beer so it won't go to waste. I'm sending over Contractor Bill to help you get started...

he likes to take a lot of breaks so you'll have to keep him motivated...

Claire - ahh, the daffodils...a sure sign of spring! I'm with you on the green beer... not much of a beer drinker meself, nor corned beef and cabbage neither... you'd never know I be a bit Irish on me ma's side.

Saw my teenage neighbor (who went to Kindergarten hand-in-hand with my DD2) driving his mom's car yesterday with the "Find the Cure" sticker on the back. I was behind him for quite awhile and by the time I got home I had to sit in my car pretending I was on a cell phone call so he wouldn't have to see me cry. My kids have so many friends who have lost a parent... one of DD2's close friends lost her dad to the evil-C in 8th grade and one of DD1's friends lost her dad when he was riding his bike too fast down a hill and collided with a car. And almost all of their friends have divorced parents, some of whom do not see much of their kids. DH was mad at the girls last night cuz they left a towel on the bathroom floor and someone (a pet I hope) wee'd on it... he said he's looking forward to them moving out and I jumped all over him. He keeps talking about what he wants to do with the house when they're gone. Boy is he in for a surprise! He'll probably cry in public when they do leave.

So glad Junie is home. Let's swing by and see if we can brighten her day, shall we? And then we should be able to pick up Kymn and help her celebrate ONE DOWN!

I changed my avatar to one of the Gale pix that looks a lot like my mom.

Whoa Gail - you must take after your beautiful Mom!!! Lovely picture!!! Makes me want to find my favorite picture of my mom and TRY and put it on - what a great idea...

Love the Magic party bus and such a perfectly magical day to remember its name don't ya think?

Oh Happy Happy Irish Day!!! Love anything and everything Irish!!!

Can't stay but a minute as I need to unload groceries before the kids come home - translation hide some of the stuff to either dole out in small amounts or just hide it for me! Teenagers do eat a lot and then are still hungry! Yowl!

I agree with whoever said glad Junie is home and hope she stays away from hospitals!!! Feel better soon!!

Love all the pictures and everything... rats - better run - loved the Sham rock joke - very good!!!  Nope I can't do green food or drink either - my son loves spinach souffle but will still to this day call it green eggs!

I wouldn't worry about anything that can be washed out, Gail.  But YUCK.

I was angry at my ex husband the time he washed a number of my cashmere sweaters in hot water, which was of course the end of them.  I tried to re-block them, but couldn't.

I am sure that you will land a good CPA spot.  We can jinx ourselves worrying about age.  Because it's about skills and being a reliable employee.  I make sure I weave my cycling and skiing into my talk track.  That worry, no one worries about energy.  I know someone in her late 60s who is interviewing and people are interested because she has a combination of skills that is needed right now.

The New York Times is finally noticing that they need to charge for their online news.  They are about 5 years too late with this.  Guess they didn't want to push readers to the WSJ, but the WSJ has been charging for about ten years.  I have to decide whether to go all online at this point except for the Seattle Times.  Probably time to do this, and also cheaper all around.

Realize that this should be in a PM to Gail, but any professional in their early 50s should consider a model that will give them a "phased retirement" of FT to PT/consulting and then eventually full retirement.  Easier in terms of finances, and gives you more "living time" towards the end of your career.  I know a number of former managers of mine who went from FT to fully retires and have been unable to fill the gap in their lives although fine financially.

Dragging more today than yesterday.  A few things I absolutely MUST do, and can't get up any enthusiasm.  At least the sun is out.

Waiting to hear that all is fine with Kymm.  Sure a lot better than anticipated. - Claire

Claire - well to be fair... he has picked up towels and put them on the bar only to find when he later wipes his face that... yuck is an understatement! I've taken to washing towels in the hottest setting and bleaching everything I can. You had a husband who did laundry!?  Mine doesn't know how to turn on any of "the machines"... funny how they become so helpless after they marry...  I have shrunk a few cashmere myself. Everyone thought my DDs were really pampered when they wore my tiny, felted cashmere sweaters!  O, man... there goes the NYT... I have a trial subscription on my kindle but that is almost up. I can't even read our local paper there are so many typos and articles that are just plain weird.  Very good advice on the phase down to retirement... step 1 for me is to get that license but I am also reluctant to give up my consulting clients as they will be helpful in step 2. I've always found it easier to retain clients than to find new ones.

Stanzie - sweet of you to say but I am a mere shadow of my mother. She was beautiful inside and out and I miss her every day of my life.

Thanks Kathy - cute video - I remember when my kids laughed like that!!! so sweet - he is funny to be scared.

Claire - I finally got to read back about the lamb and brisket - I think I'm skipping the corned beef this year but I'll go for the lamb next time it is on sale - sounds lovely. I'm not a big fan of ham so.... might have to pass but I do appreciate the knowledge!

Kymn - thinking about you today and hope everyone is really nice to you and makes you less anxious.

NM - is tomorrow the interview? I'm so off on everything but I did wear green today - not flattering green but it was green.

Goldie - thank you so much for posting the link.... one day I'll figure things out but obviously might be a while yet!!!

Gail.....I think the answer might be to bring your private clients into a group practice.  You will also be a much more attractive hire if you can bring business into a firm.

The opposite would be expected when you depart.  Then again, this might also be a "phase down" opportunity.

First thing though is getting the credentials.  BTW - this includes being very proficient on all MS Office apps and any generally-used software.  So make sure you are current.  By MS apps, I mean Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and calendar functions in Outlook.  Not Access or Publisher unless relevant to your industry.

There is more stuff.  I am sure you are fine, but just a reminder.  I was lucky to have all that training in my former corporate life.

Depending on where your clients are located, I might add Skype to the list.  Interesting to see how the Today Show now brings in "experts" via Skype as opposed to paying travel to a studio.  Much less intrusive in the "expert's" day too.  (Other than needing to clean up the backdrop.)

Some thoughts as you move forward.  At the very least, you need to have the MS Office Professional edition loaded, and be using it regularly.  You probably are, but a check just in case.

And be out there networking in the professional accountants' associations. - Claire

Evenin' O Ladies.  Loved all the pictures, teeshirts, leapord gear, jokes (Holy Hello NM....that girl one was great!)  I should have posted my F Bomb girlscout one for Karen.  Great DOTDs as usual.  I am still fighting a chest cold (congestion) but feel up to some brewskys.  Junie, so glad you are homeski too.  Hope you get to feeling better.  Lori, glad you remembered the name of the bus!  I enjoyed the ride today until someone locked me in the shitter.  I think it was Dorthy or Beans.  Don't worry.  Payback is a you know what!  Kymn, my little chemo queen...so glad you made it through the infusion without a reaction.  You take your Puke meds when needed girl!  So proud of you for kicking the rat bastard in the A$$!  Do you have to get a neulasta shot tomorrow?  AStorm and NM....best of luck on the jobs.  For some odd reason I believe you will make it as I see two intelligent motivated women in you both!  Kathy, sorry you are taking so long to come out of the anesthesia.  I had no problem with pain meds.  Send them all to me!  LOL!  Chrissy, glad you could join today without passport.  I didn't have one either.  Maybe that's why they locked me in the shitter!  Jaybird, hope you are safe and sound and feeling well.  Have you made any decision on the MX and recon?  Claire, glad you are recovering.  I hope to also.  Dee, sure miss you here!  Stanzie, it is always good to hear from you.  I would skip the corned beef and cabbage also.  I would also skip the lamb.  Ick, Ick, Ick.  Sorry girls.  Oh, meant to ask you Dorthy how the shitty titty is.  I know your changing tape tonight.  Hope it is perty as a peach!  OK, I have rambled, gambled, and drank entirely TOO LITTLE!  Time to kick it up a notch!  Goodbye O'  HD

Hi HunkyD! Sooooo good to see you, but I hate it that you still have that cold. Hope the brews will help. I had "happy hour" with just a diet coke....whoopie! I think the anesthesia was out of my system by the next morning, but since I wasn't sure if that was what made me so sick all night, or the pain meds I took, I decided not to take any more meds. Does that make sense? I must have sounded more confusing earlier! But just don't feel like drinking. Told DH I wasn't up to going on a 5 hr drive to the casinos tomorrow, so we should cancel the res. Well, he wants to wait, so I guess he thinks I will change my mind? Would love to BE there, but getting there, not so fun.

What a fun Green St. Pats Day here! I had DH stop at the healthy store to get their cooked corned beef, but OMG it does not look very good. Wish I had felt like cooking my own! Hope everyone else's dinners will be good tonight...I may have to eat at the HTL....lol.

Day started out good...and got better when I had lunch with my bff...today is her b'day....we always chat for so long and I love being with her....but after I left, running a couple errands, fender bendered the car in front of me....the light had turned green, but cars were slow to move.....his car is fine and so is mine except for my license plate holder....the first question the guy asked me is "are you a citizen"!!!!  Been in a funk ever since. we exchanged insurance info....

DD b'day present arrived today....she saw the box and was sooo excited...b'day is saturday, but she wants to open it tomorrow so she can have it on Sat...its a Ripstick....she is having 4 or 5 friends for lunch after synagogue Saturday....so tomorrow, I'll be busy cooking.....should do some tonight, but can't seem to get the motivation.....hoping after a nights sleep, I'll wake up in a good mood....have to so I can get errands, baking and cooking done!!!!!

Just skimmed posts, so really can't address everyone except to say HI, happy St. Patty's day and hoping Kymm and Junie are both doing okay.  Hugs, Karen

Karen.....bummer.  Unfortunately, I know the feeling all too well.

I have everything under control for tonight's dinner.  Soda bread looks delish, have the corned beef a-cooking, potatoes and carrots ready to pop in the oven.  And cabbage shredded ready to braise.

The aroma in here is amazing with the corned beef and soda bread.

I think the leftover cider from braising needs another quality control check.......

Kymn, you go girl, I knew you would brave today well. We were talking on the bus ride home about you and how well you did.

Oh, love all the bus names, I already forgot the original, was it Magic Bus?  I typed that I thought of a song by The Who and think it was called Magic Bus. But now I am humming.

Claire, happy trails this weekend, glad you are back to the good living.

Lori, love the cute hello kitty you got for Kymn, so thoughtful.  It was fun helping Kymn get through today but as you know, being only 1/2 inch tall is not always easy.

HD, ya see, (oops), I never saw you in the shitter, that's why I shut the door, so sorry...time to order some teeenie tiny little contact lenses so it won't happen again :(

Stanzie,  sorry that you are missing your Mom too, Iift my glass in toast to her memory. Cheers!

Chrissy, oh my, how much did you drink? Do you even remember St. P-Dey 2011?? I miss ya.

NM, will be thinking about you tomorrow, best wishes on the interview. Loved your pics today too- I always look forward to seeing you. The countdown is on for you.

Kymn - So happy you did so well today! And as Kathy said one is down! And I'd imagine in a lot of ways the hardest. Hope the nausea pills work well and you get a good nights sleep! You are brave and strong and this is make sure the nasty C. is gone....

Dorothy, well I totally forgot what I was going to say.....? can't go back a page cause then it will be lost....

Well, I'll keep going and it will hopefully come back to me.

Karen - your daughter sounds like mine - that would be what she would like as well. Hope the birthday is grand fun.

NM - gosh hope tomorrow's interview is a breeze and they are totally blown away by everything you are! Astorm - you are on the hunt as well? How did I miss all this?

Ok, Claire I know I shouldn't even ask but did you make the soda bread? Is it the yummy black bread you get in Ireland? I want to come to your house!!!

Kymm.....  I felt relatively normal after the first infusion too.  Less so later on.

Stanzie.... I did make the soda bread.  Not the whole wheat you are referring to, but one with raisins and caraway seeds.  I mixed 1/4 WW to 3/4 all purpose.  It had quite a bit of butter in it, and I used up some cream that was past its sell by date, but still good.  So not that different from a large scone.

Guess what I'm having for breakfast???

Other food was delish too.  Company just left, and I need to clean up.

My friends brought some local pinot, so local that I can probably see the winery out my window.  Spiciness went well with the corned beef.

Kymn - glad you are feeling normal! My FIL didn't have problems with treatment except that he got the hiccups from his anti-nausea Rx. Hope you continue to feel good.

Stanzie - aw, shucks, thank you... I'm only thinking about thinking about that job right now, with one exam to go but starting to worry... worst case I keep my daytime job -- just would like to get that license and I need 2000 hours (like an internship) to get there.

Claire - MS Office is another great tip. I have given seminars in business computer skills which focused on MS Office but have not kept up with my educator certification. I do some pretty high-level stuff with Excel and the relational database program I used to rep. Whenever SQL query or report is inefficient I create an output file (ODBC-linked to Excel). My professors were pretty blown away by some of the PowerPoint presentations I did as most of the students had no "real world" exposure so their skills were limited to what they learned in their "computer skills" course. I used to work for a software developer and was very fortunate to work with a group of programmers who were supportive and happy to explain things to me and encourage me to perform advanced tasks rather than acting superior. (yes, they do exist!)  Personally I think there are many plusses to hiring "mature" professionals, and I have the advantage of many connections I've made over the years. Just a little nervous about interviewing, which is silly because technically I do it all the time as a consultant.

Ok, enough shop talk... long day... need sleep... nighty-night drinkin buddies.

    Good morning, loungettes!

Yesterday at work was horrible.  First, my plan for a speaker for the class I was teaching fell through when the speaker got sick.  Second, half way through the lecture another faculty member came in to do my peer eval.  Not that the eval is a problem in itself, but with my shaky self confidence I got more and more uncertain of myself every time I saw her writing something, Kept getting tongue tied.  One student didn't come to class and didn't get the mid-term eval done and of course it's the student who has been saying how important it is to have this done before break next week.  Found out the students said everything was all good at clinical last Tuesday, but I need to give them more complex wound care--like I can control who is admitted to the hospital.  The hospital sponsoring my position decided not to renew the contract with the university, so my position is gone as of May 31st.  There will be another position posted that I could apply for but I wouldn't know the decision in until next September.  I ended up telling them that I'm planning to leave at the end of May, wasn't going to do that for another couple weeks.

On the up side, interview at 9:30 for a job that they've been asking me to take for 2 years.  Massage scheduled this afternoon.

Slept like a log last night.  Hooray for Spring Break!

Kymm--so glad you are doing so well!  Prayers that it continues this way for you!

AStorm--there are definately advantages to "mature" professionals, just remind of the list. Talk about value for the dollar!  We "matures" have it!

Stanzie--they probably don't run movies like that because they aren't risque, rude, sexy or violent enough.  I'd love to see movies like that shown more often.

Claire--nothing like local foods and products, is there?  I'm soo looking forward to stocking up on maple syrup.  They are tapping and boiling now, sure sign of spring!

Let's see, what would be a good DOTD for today?  How about

    Green Apple Cider

    1 shot Midori Melon Liqueur
    1 pint Hard Cider
Best served in a Pilsner Glass.

Add the cider to the liqueur. Serve cold.

NM- So how did they take the news? I'm thinking it hopefully is a relief to get it out in the open. Will be thinking of you with fingers and toes crossed for a fabulous interview which I know you will have! So brilliant of you to have scheduled a massage! With everything you have been through you need to pamper yourself. Sometimes I wonder how much of how women put everyone else first before themselves contributes to things like BC.So I say massages all around!!!

Kymn - So hope it stays that way too. Guess it sort of makes sense that it take a bit to build it still it has to be a good sign it didn't totally knock you for a loop!!! I also have a wonderful friend who will tell herself when she is busy that she just will NOT get sick no matter that her whole family is sick and she is taking care of them. She used to do it in college and I think it was one of those mind over matter. She has to this day never missed a day of work and in college was never sick - she must be doing something right so keep that in mind. Your body just takes all this very well...

So, I know the shop talk between Claire and Astorm isn't probably pertenant to all but I have to say I love hearing about all this stuff. My job experiences have all been in theatre and as a stylist for events and parties and such so I think corporate world is interesting as I know nothing about it. Same for NM - love hearing about your work and such so just wanted to say since Claire mentioned she was worried it should be PM. I enjoy learning about all everyone has to offer. So Thanks!

So, I got a call from a company in town that does commercials and I sent pictures of my house and yard when they were doing the movie got all psyched about it all. Now I'm nervous to call her back. My friends whose house will be in the Jennifer Garner movie has some damages to the house and furniture so does make me a bit more concerned.... So will let you all know what comes of it all.

NM- Oh rats I think you are right about the movies!! Makes me sad my kids would probably be bored by them... Why does everything have to be so violent and what.... graphic? I think it contributes to the downsizing of intelligence. Where are the great movies and plays that make you think and don't just hand it all to you on a spoon. Ok, getting off the soap box now.

    Good Friday Morning Girlz!!!!

NM, Hoping for an excellent interview for you this am, but know you will be offered that job as they would be very lucky to have you on board! Let us know!!!

Stanzie, Oh yes do call them back. Maybe make sure any damage is addressed in the contract and that you are allowed to be present at ALL TIMES that they are there, so you can be assured your home and grounds will not be damaged. That is SO exciting though! Hope it works out. Looks like you and I will have about 80 degree temps today...YAY!

Well, too much tech talk for me, as the area I live in is saturated with computer, programming, and software engineers, etc. But no probs posting that here, as I can skim over it. I think they consider this 2nd to silicone valley...ugh! In fact I was reviewing my SIL's resume last night (degree in computer engineering), and noticed some misspellings. Sometimes the engineers here are not very multi-dimensional. My bro is an engineer too (masters), and so my parents rather have me explain any computer issues, as he speaks waaaaaay above their comprehension! Of course, my knowledge is limited, so I depend on my DD's. LOL.

DH really wants to go to Tunica, but I have to wear the #*%!#% hose till tomorrow and don't feel like going ANYWHERE yet. Told him MAYBE I will go tomorrow, but then that means driving 5 hrs on Sat and on Sun, as we could just stay 1 night, since my PS appt is Monday. Hoping he will want to do some stuff today with me supervising...hmmmmmmm......

Hoping everyone is having a good day today. HD are you over that cold this morning? If not, is it time to see dr? Karen, hope you are doing well. Dorothy, are you getting excited about going to AC??? Wouldn't it be kewl if we both won on Sunday in the casinos! So anxious to hear about the PIR show....and when it might air. You gotta get picked!!! Junie, hope you are feeling better and able to do more every day. We love you! Beans, I sure miss your super-funny posts....and you are not posting as often...I am waaaaaay behind on my dose of beanglish! Come on and post more often, ok??? Hoping the builder contacts you, cause if we have to build it, oh no that would be a mess! Dwink up gals, and keep dwinking for me! OH yeah, the Undercover Cop on Sunday night is going to be a boss at the MGM casino...might be interesting to watch!!!

Kathy, they had that baby video on the news here, yesterday morning. Nothing sweeter than hearing your baby giggle like that. I'm sure we have all experienced it as mothers. I know I did.

Astorm, my heart went out to you when you had to stay in your car and pretend to be on your cell. I hope it passed quickly.

The countdown is on........go Kymn, go Kymn, go Kymn!

HD, I thought perhaps you were out having your mouth fixed. Guess not! That expression works well for being locked in the shitter too!

LOL @ Dorothy for doing it!

Karen, glad the accident wasn't bad and no one was hurt. Kind of funny tho, him asking if you were a citizen! Perhaps you look a little Hispanic? What is a rip stick?

NM, I believe you will be fine too. You have so much compassion, and I think perhaps it is your calling to work bedside. I hope the interview goes well, good luck my friend.

Kathy, had to laugh at DH waiting to cancel your reservations! You will be feeling up to going soon, besides....he has gone without you before, right?

Dentist for me today. Have a filling that needs to be replaced. Sure hope I don't go on sneezing frenzy while he's drilling!

All you ladies have a wonderful weekend!

Lori, Good luck at the dentist...maybe do a nasal spray or take something beforehand that might help so you won't sneeze? Funny they showed that baby video on your news! It wasn't the giggling I thought was so interesting, it was the way the baby was SO scared when its mom blew her nose. I forgot about that incident NM...how sad, but smart to pretend to be on the cell. It is affecting TOO many of us.....hoping for a cure soon. And Karen, hope the guy doesn't press for repairs, since you said there was no damage. You never know what someone will come up with. Yes, DH has gone to Tunica without me but would rather have me with him (sometimes I enjoy the solitude though...LOL). There is a special birthday dinner at the casino that we really should be at, so if I feel ok in the morning I will consider it. THANKS SO MUCH for keeping up with everyone's posts, as it always reminds me of what I forgot to comment on! Good luck at the dentist today!!!!
