how about drinking?

NM - Thanks for posting the Fukitol warning label... I'd better lay off that stuff... didn't know it could cause rugburns.... that SE might give me an interesting story! Water for Elephants was good. It is a great story and I loved the book. I think the movie did a good job of preserving the overall story and Reese Witherspoon was impressive - she really captured her character and actually did stunts and rode an elephant.
Claire - I haven't been happy with my hair for a long time. I have healthy, shiny, thick hair and I'm so fortunate that I never lost it but I every time I pay someone $200+ and walk away from the salon feeling frustrated, I have to wonder... how hard can it be? So a few months ago I started going to the beauty college for root touch ups so at least I wouldn't be pissed off about the cost... it looks the same! Well... haven't actually had a haircut yet, that's a little scary. Part of the problem is that I live in a community where people just don't understand why you would want your hair to look natural. DD1 has beautiful blond hair but she had it colored and now it's a weird burgundy color (with blond roots most of the time). She has no trouble finding a hairdresser. Maybe we should have a "makeover day" at HTL and bring in some fabulous stylists to the stars... maybe wait until everyone has hair again...
Karen - there are a finite number of granite choices, though every piece is unique. If you pick a color/style that you like your guy can probably get it. We replaced our formica 7 years ago and I still love the granite... It was hard to choose... DH liked this beautiful black granite with blue sparkles in it but it just wouldn't work in our country kitchen so we went with my choice: Baltic Brown. I chose the slabs at the warehouse and bought them direct, then had them delivered to the contractor for fabrication and installation.
I'm sitting on my sunny patio thinking about studying... or a long Island Iced Tea... both? WD is basking in the sun at my feet, on his back like a corgi... do dachshunds do that or did he learn it from the corgi I wonder? Anyway, I talked to DH lsat night about how I sometimes feel resentful because I work so hard and he... well... doesn't. So he gave me his perspective which is that I want to work hard, that I never sit still and watch TV or lounge on the beach, and that I'm not happy unless I am pursuing something. He is tremendously proud of me, which doesn't make it any easier to accept that he is at the beach wile I am studying and worrying about how I will find time to do everything. We came up with a compromise... BEFORE he goes to the beach, he will do something supportive and I will stop bitching. This morning, his idea was to de-winterize the patio so that I could study outside. It really is so nice outside today... I guess I should study... LIIT later. I'll join you for a cup of tea, Karen.
Happy, sunny Sunday to all, especially Kathy.

Stanzie - Pittypat? Pork? oh! Bonnie Blue?

Oh, I love this name that gal game. I don't know either. But she said we would "kick ourselves" when we knew. Is theew a clue in that? What kicks? Karate Kids? Mr. Miyagi? Mules? Sister Sarah? I dunno. Dork...I still have both eyes....I can see clearly now! Yehaa! Hope all are doing well. Beans...hope your rash is gone. Checking in and checking out. Beers by the pool. I am hammock bound to think of kicker names! HD

AStorm those are some good guesses!!! Yay! Yes, NM had a super fantastic post todya LMAO!! Now Stanzie won't give us any more clues...oh Stanzie, where are you?? Bonnie Blue Melanie??? Is that it??? WhereDdF is Kathy, I'm sure she would "spill the beans" or at lease give us more to do on... I think it's Bonnie Blue!!!
Hugs to ya'll! Getting ready for Pau Hana and a bucket of dog beers...Tuddie Up!

See, more proof of being a total CLOD, sorry HD I bumped into you, hope I didn't poke your eye out again. You have some awesome guesses too, very creative...Mr. Miyagi? Mules? Sister Sarah? ha ha ha ha!! BTW tanks for wishing my itching well, it is itching quite well, thank you. J/K I did go to the doc and it's nothing serious or contagious, don't know what it is, but it's getting better. Glad you got your eye fixed...I'm heading to the pool to see if I can cause some trouble there.

Thanks everyone for the hairstyle sympathy. I actually think Valentine did a good job, but that he had to cut shorter than I would have liked in order to get top and bottom to look as an integrated style. The good news is that I no longer have a clear delineation between still growing out crown, and hair below.
The bad news is way too short, and one of those styles I never wanted to wear. It will get better, and he did hear me on making it look sculptural as opposed to shaggy.
I tried too ambitious a ride today and had to bag. There are definite paces, and "moderate" is too fast for me, particularly with my heavy hybrid. So I left the group and had a wonderful time tooling around on my own.
Good thing I bagged as I have the conference tomorrow and the hybrid exercises different muscles. I noticed which ones driving home.
I stopped in for a wonderful decadent breakfast crepe and a latte. Ate outside in the sunshine.
It's the most gorgeous day, so the world is out there. Was glad I did something early.
I have some pictures to post and will download later. Still looking for cheap cycling shoes. Discovered an eBay item, as have no intention of spending $200 when can get for $40.
Will see all of you later. Happy May Day!!!! - Claire

My next pet is going to be blue so I can call it Bonnie Blue and I don't care if it's a boy. Come to think of it, we have an orange tabby that doesn't seem to like his name cuz he doesn't answer to it or even look at me when I call him. Was thinking of changing his name to Liberace cuz he always sits on my piano... or maybe Elton John. We once adopted a 4 YO corgi and I changed his name... hmmm.
Just took a lunch break and had theee most boring tomato sandwich. As I was making it, I was thinking about how I used to go into my mom's garden and pick warm, fat tomatoes and layer thick slices of juicy maters with mayo... boy was I disappointed. I guess that's a high bar for grocery store tomatoes even if they are from Whole Foods and organic and probably were expensive. Glad I planted an Early Girl and some yellow pear in my garden. Maybe I should make room for a few more tomato plants. The wine is ok though, an unoaked chardonnay from Santa Barabara Highlands.
Ok, back to studying... sure is quiet here today...

well I just tripped over Beanie and landed smack on top of Claire. Sorry girls! Mama would be apalled!

But AStom is was so graceful it was worth the trip! Ha Ha ....
Ok guys one of you all almost got it spot on! That is all I have to say other than if my name was Pitty Pat I would never ever tell a living soul or even let anyone try and guess. We still have a resturant ( tourist trap) called Pitty Pat's Porch and used to have Aunt Fanny's Cabin - which I'm told was nicknamed Aunt But's Hut! I actually did go to Aunt Fanny's Cabin and it was southern food all served "family style" with very politically incorrect things pretty much every where you looked - was hard to believe it still exsited when I went because of all that - rather shocking to say the least.
Speaking of hair.... In the last few years, I have had my hair straightened as it is very curly but now a days those "natural blond" hairs in their vast quantities now gives me more of a young duck frizz look which just isn't attractive in anyone's book. Anyway, had an apt. all set up and read in the paper how awful some of these treatments are and how they can make your hair fall out! Now that is not funny with chemo but because of some "beauty" treatment - I don't think so! So needing to find out more info or I'll stay fuzzy.
You all are just so funny!!! Do we really know everyone else's name? I'm thinking not, Ms HD??? I don't mean to put you on the spot if you prefer to stay anomonomous. No clue if that is spelled correctly but sure looks a bit long. Anyway,.... back to cleaning and cooking... where are those mystery elves when you need them?

did someone already guess Margaret? (as in Margaret Mitchell?)

Gail....we ended up ordered the granite....brown shades....not what I would have ever imagined picking, but it looks great with our off white cabinets....the prices on the granite were good....yes grannite tile would have been less, but wouldn't not look as nice.....and high quality formica also not as nice....We;ve been in the house since 1993 and our counters were probably close to 10 years old then!!! Our handy man does not have the equipment to do slab...and lately he is sooo busy, not sure he has the time to do the tile....but I'm happy that we are finally getting new counter tops.....also new stainless steel sink....and free slab for the hall bathroom.....then hubby will paint those cabinets. They are the same cabinets as the kitchen....
Now that we are doing the kitchen counter, I feel quilty about going to Israel this summer, but not guilty enough to not go......just need to buy my ticket...plus DD ticket to camp and ticket to go see DD and SIL.....Now too bad money isn't as free flowing as it sounds!!!
I feel really crappy....tired of being tired....tired of my sinuses bothering me......just kind of blah!!! today....going to go make pan fried pototates and eggs for dinner....Hugs and love, Karen

I just got that lovely spam PM. Now I'm trying to figure out how to report the abuse.
0 -
Karen.... Sounds like things are moving right along with the countertops. I don't think you will regret getting what you really want. I am sorry you are still wiped out.
I need to pack for my trip tomorrow. At least printed out my itinerary.
Spent some time on my sofa sitting in the afternoon sun reading the paper. So wonderfully indulgent. Think I need to un-indulge myself and get moving.
Will be MIA for the next three or so days. Not to worry as conference has male-female ratio of about 3:1. Plus a number of old friends. - Claire

Bingo!!!!! Ya got the prize - too bad it is spam.... let me know if you know how to report it!My mom was told by a neighbor that I was going to be a boy and she was "never wrong" so my Mom had a boys name picked out and when I was born a girl she named me after her Mom. Two cousins were also named for her but used only one of her names and that always bothered my Mom thinking it should have been her full name.
I loved picking out and looking at all the granite slabs. They were beautiful and amazing. Of course the ones I really liked were the tremendously expensive ones! If I could have afforded it or had a house that had really big walls I kept thinking the slabs would have been amaxing hung on walls as art just as is.

Just a quick check in to update on our sweet Risque' Raquel! I have gotten a few text messages. Her mom and dad made it back from Alaska, knowing the situation. They have a battery operated radio to listen to. Can only charge her cell phone if they go somewhere and she is limiting talk time on it cuz it takes up more of the battery. They are hoping the water doesn't get shut off. They are managing, but not sleeping well cuz it's hot. This evening, I actually got a voice mail, and was disappointed to miss her call, but it appears they have a land line now. No generator, most stores are still closed and even the casino in Tunica is closed due to flooding. So Junie........stay home! With all the damage, she says normally it would take months to get all the power back, but they are hopeful that they will get power some time this week. Kathy is very grateful for everyone's concern and sends a big hug and thanks and misses everyone.
I have not done any reading since my last post and will do that in the morning. Hoping you all have a wonderful evening and will see you all then.0 -
I haven't got spam yet that I know of...
Kymn, so efffffing soorry you feel bad, thinking of you and wishing for a quick recovery and yes, get our Kathy back! Take care...I am thinking of you and Husker every day, you will be done so soooon, you will not believe it will be over sooon. Don't forget to take your fukitols!
AStorm - I did think of Margaret, that is pretty, Margarette Melanie...do you think that's it? Do you think we are driving Stanzie crazy? Do you think we can guess HD's name???
HD, will you play? Can we have a hint? You already know me, I dream of Jeanie, but you don't knwo my middle name...tee teee hee hee!
DorK - I do hope all's okay with your FIL.
kathy, where are you? did you ever hear of a generator???? I will have to send you one.
Love, peace, dope and dog beers! ~Beans

trying to study and can't keep my eyes open... the wine probably isn't helping... Pants, can you bring me a little tiramisu perhaps? calorie free of course.

Gail...I couldn't figure out how to report it either, so just went to the moderator thread....a few other people already complained...I guess the perpetrator has been deleted.....how darn annoying to have to deal with spam here!!!
0 -
Gail...what are you studying....I don't remember what you are taking in school....heck, I'll be honest, I forgot you were in school.....Karen
0 -
Hi Karen, not in school but taking my last CPA exam in a couple of weeks.
The perp who PM'd me has not been deleted. It was added 4/28. I got the impression from the instructions (or lack thereof) that BCO doesn't want us to report, but just ignore... which I would do except that it really bothers me that they are targeting stage 4 sisters.

Late greetings--hope all had a great Sunday. I got a phone call from Kathy this evening and she sounded just like her usual cheerful self. Can't add much to what Lori reported a bit earlier. It was just so good to visit with her for a bit. She is missing everyone so much and can't wait to get elec back--maybe on Tuesday. I hated to tell her, but it has stormed here again all last night and all day with rain, rain, rain. She has heard on their radio that they are expecting storms later tonight and tomorrow......it just doesn't want to stop. DH and I tried to make jokes today about the rain, but they were kind of feeble. Just heard on our news that we got so much rain today that the next lake over will open their flood gates later tonight--that water flows into our lake (already at record high levels) and will cause more flooding problems in our area. grrrrrr!!!
Taking my dog beers out to the pool and going to toast the good old USofA....finally got that Osama guy!!! Much speculation on the special news report that Al Qaida cells may retaliate so security is going to be really beefed up everywhere. Hopefully, the death of their leader will take a lot of wind out of their sails!
Huggsssss to ALL.

AStorm-rugburns? I've got to go back and read that stuff more carefully, I missed that one! Sorry to hear about your hair troubles. Are there any independent hairdressers in your area, maybe someone working out of her home, that will listen to what you want? It's so frustrating to pay money for something and not be listened to. I'm a big fan of studying or doing other kinds of work WITH a glass of wine. Very nice, especially if you can also do it on your patio!
Hi, Hunky! I'll be joining you at the hammocks after work today, love relaxing there.Beanie-I hear the Tenders are putting in a water slide for us at the pool, to make it easier to splash everyone!
Claire-Aha! Superwoman DOES have limits! I'm glad you had sense enough to change plans when your body told you to. Isn't eBay a great place to find good deals?
Kymn-So sorry you are feeling gross. Glad DH didn't go to the strippers. You're almost done with chemo, aren't you? Hang in there!
DorK-Sounds like chaos there, we'll have Pants pay special attention to keeping you likkered up!
Karen-I would so love to go to Israel some day. I hope you take lots of pictures and post them when you get back!
Goldie-thanks for the update. Keeping Kathy in my prayers, glad she has some means of communication even if limited, and that they get power back soon!
Junie-Good riddance to bad rubbish as far as Obama is concerned. It certainly took long enough. I'm sure there will be some backlash, but then I hope the whole group falls apart. Sorry about the rain, looking at a week's worth of rain starting tomorrow here. Oh well, at least it isn't snow.
DOTD: Hmm. Today's drink needs some thought. How about a Wahine?
1 oz Midori Melon Liqueur
1 oz White Rum
2 oz Sprite
3 oz Pineapple JuiceDirections
Pour midori, rum, and pineapple juice into shaker with ice. Shake well. Strain into glass over ice. Pour in sprite and stir lightly.0 -
Beans and Stanzie, you both always find such cute adorable avatars!
Astorm, how nice that you and hubby can compromise, I hope you can keep up with that. Store bought tomatoes......one word "ICK". DH will eat them, I won't. They have no taste what so ever. Can't wait til we have fresh ones.
Karen, I'm so sorry you can't sleep. I have those nights occasionally, but every night I am up at least half a dozen times or more with hot flashes. I bounce drugs around for sleeping, one night an over the counter sleeping pill, another night maybe 10 mg of valium and now I have my 20 mg of melatonin.
HD, what are you drinking and who the heck is Mitch? Now that you can see, you can see what beautiful friends we have here!
Kymn, me tooo.......sorry hon. Those days are just the worst and you can't wait for them to pass.......but they will. (((((Kymn)))))
DorK, hope all is well with your FIL and things are going good with DH.
The weather across the country has just been terrible. It was 16 degrees here again this morning. All the rain and flooding, no wonder our sales are down! Junie, I hope you don't get flooded.
NM, I saw the rug burn warning too.......don't you read what you post???
Ooooooohhhhh, if Astorm is having Tirimisu, can I have Eclaires?
DING DONG THE DEVIL'S DEAD! I'll have a Wahine and drink to that!

I'm baaaaaack! Had 5 days without power. Thanks to Lori and Junie for keeping in touch, and posting that we were okay. You are sweeties! Appreciate all the prayers and concern, and it was nice to be missed. I sure missed all of you galz here!!! Electricity came on during the night for us, my DD, and my parents....they said this morning that 30% now have power, so really feel fortunate to be included in that. Have to still conserve water (pumping stations do not have full power) and electricity, so they can get everyone else connected. The damage from the tornadoes to the nuclear power plant (of which TVA feeds power to all of N AL and other places) is what caused this (loss of power that is). The feeds to our area were destroyed, but the cooling system worked, so no worry about nuclear leaks or meltdown. Hospitals had generators and a couple of days later had power there. When some gas stations opened, lines were 3-4 hrs long, so if you didn't have gas (our cars were on empty though the car we gave away a few days ago had 1/2 tank...go figure!), you would run out of gas, in line. They limited ice purchases to 2 bags/ea, that is, when you could find it. Walmart opened for a few hrs/day and would let a limited # of people in at a time....one person comes out and then another can go in. So DH waited in that long line a couple of times looking for fuel for campstove and grill. Now most of the stores are up and running and getting regular supplies. The 3rd day DH found LOTS of ice to buy, so we were able to keep some food. BUT threw out tons of food as 2 refrig/freezers were jammed full of food. We expect company this week, so had loaded up right before the tornado. Sadly, some areas are totally wiped out....just drove past one of them last week....they rebuilt this upscale subdivision after it was hit in the '95 tornado....and now all the houses are gone again, and 8 died there. My hair place is next to it. My DD's prior subdivision was hit too. I think there are 240+ dead in AL alone. NO, the pic I posted was looking down the street right b4 my street.....more 1-story homes that direction. Ours are 2-story mostly, on my street. THANK GOD we didn't lose any trees....I think just 3-4 tall (very tall) trees in our subdivison went down. We have tons of trees all over.
WHEW>......read some of the back posts....you all have been through a lot too. DorK hope it is working well with your DH!!! NM, glad the job is going well. Junie, hope the flooding doesn't keep you from going anywhere...can't believe none of us can go to the 9 casinos in Tunica for a few weeks...till they reopen. HD, glad your surgery went well. Stanzie..so funny all of the name guessing, looks like they got it now. Funny how they didn't see it when you posted it a few wks ago!!! Beans, glad your rash isn't serious. Gail, good your DH is doing some work now! Kymn and Dork, good idea to send DH's to live together and you two can hang out!!! Chrissy, so glad your DD's surgery went well. My relatives in OZ were so worried about us, so I was finally able to email them this mmorning. So much more to comment on. Hated missing the Royal Wedding...hope to catch it on the internet. Plus all my tv shows....boy it sucked to be without power. ANd it was so hot, I couldn't sleep. AGAIN, very thankful for our lives and our property, and our doggies. One couple that was away and came home to their house missing....and their WD....that made me cry, thinking of all the pets/livestock killed also.
Take care girlz, and I am ready for a big PARTAY! My first Seagrams/Diet after the storm was lukewarm and not very good! So glad we have the weather call so we knew when to evac....during the afternoon and evening with the worst of the storms, I did go with DH to the exercize rm underground, under the clubhouse.....much safer there.
Luv y'all,
Kathy

NM - yes, let's all raise a wahine to Wahine! Oh, wait!
Welcome back, Kathy! Have a wahine! DH was telling me about the power plant but we heard nothing on the news here... of course there was the wedding and then Bin Laden... sorry about your fridge... been there (we have a very expensive fridge that stopped a couple of times and I'm kinda paranoid about food borne illneses) but losing your freezer too - yikes!
Getting a late start today... I just couldn't seem to stay awake yesterday so I went for a walk and then I slept 10 hours last night. Not sure what that was about but obviously I needed rest. even WD is having a hard time waking up today and the cats (not out of character) ... and the corgi:
It looks like The Napping House here. Well, one of us is taking a shower and gettign some coffee.
